Beach Music Cruise-In

Virginia Beach | On the beach at 30th Street Beach Music Weekend features bands on the beach with dancing under the stars for a jam-packed blast from the past. The top Beach Music bands from up and down the East Coast descend on the Virginia Beach oceanfront in a nostalgic salute to the “good old days” of hot tunes and cool times. A three-day series of ticketed concerts is presented on a stage built right on the beach at 30th Street. Evening concerts on Friday give way to a full day of entertainment on Saturday and more daytime concerts on Sunday. The festival atmosphere is enhanced with a fantastic food and beverage menu available for purchase. Beer and wine, as well as nonalcoholic beverages including smoothies and soft drinks, go along with great festival food served in tents on the sand. KayaXpedition

Chesapeake | Oak Grove Lake Park The annual KayaXpedition, a kayaking and canoeing event, is back in Chesapeake this year with something for everyone: music, food trucks, outdoor outfitter vendors and kayak and canoe rentals. Bring your own kayak/canoe/SUP or rent a kayak/canoe from Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Age and Chaperone Requirements: All youth age 17 or younger must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) and be able to swim. Youth age 12-17 may paddle in a separate boat but must be accompanied by an adult chaperone in another boat. Required ratio of youth participants to adult chaperones will be one-to-one—one adult chaperone for each youth participant. Youth age 11 years or younger must paddle in the same boat with an adult. Pre-registration required with completed waiver form. Please check back for registration dates. No trailers allowed. Inflatable kayaks and SUPs are allowed; however, staff have the right to deny access if vessels are not rigid in design or are not property inflated. Chalk the Walk

Virginia Beach | On the boardwalk from 16th-18th Streets Chalk the Walk takes over the Virginia Beach boardwalk as artists and “wanna-be artists” gather to turn the boardwalk into an impromptu canvas of color. All participants must register by 12:30 p.m. to qualify for the competition. All 4-ft. x 4-ft. drawings must be completed by 3:30 p.m. to be eligible for prizes. Registration is free, and all participants should bring their own chalk. Judges will score the drawings according to criteria such as composition, use of color, adherence to theme and creativity. There will be three competitive divisions: Amateur, Professional and Youth. The Youth Division will be for ages 12–16. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded for each division. Winners will be announced at 4:45 p.m. on the boardwalk at 17th Street. Participants can register on site from 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Capacity is limited.
