MAY 2014 | News venues will be open, the majority on both days. As well as gardens to look round, some of the venues will have art displays, musical performances and refreshments. As usual, details on all these activities can be found in the iconic blue leaflet available from various outlets in early May. Entry is free, but the local charity chosen this year is the Scout Hut Appeal to which donations will be welcome. Further details in next month’s BN5.
MARATHON RUNNER TRACEY’S DOUBLE CELEBRATION Tracey Prescott from Henfield had a double celebration last month – completing her very first marathon on her birthday. Despite suffering a back problem at mile 18 of the Brighton Marathon she completed the 26.2 miles in just five hours and 38 seconds, raising more than £1,600 for Macmillan Cancer Care. Tracey is general manager of Peewees, the Burgess Hill and Brighton hairdressers, and she was running in support of friend Gary Dunk who has been undergoing cancer treatment. “It was tough towards the end but I had the support, encouragement and advice of my sister Sam Bremner and experienced marathon runner Ilidia Campbell who is doing the London Marathon” said Tracey. Her next challenge is on 10 May in a 20-mile ‘Rat Race’ obstacle course at Burghley House, Lincolnshire, for Cancer Research UK. Donations accepted at www.777fundraising.com Mike Beardall
