Editor’s LETTER

We’re hoping the photo of the charming frog in a watering-can on our cover (by Beverley Jones for the Sussex Wildlife Trust) will inspire thoughts of spring, which is just around the corner! We loved the colours in Beverley’s photograph, and the comical face peering down the spout of the watering-can, slightly miffed to have his comfortable home disturbed. Habitats for these little amphibians are pretty hard to find these days, so if you’re lucky enough to find frog spawn in your garden pond, please take a look at page 34 to find out all about frogs and toads. Or if you’d like to build a wildlife pond, Sussex Wildlife Trust can give you lots of advice. The Henfield Hall hosts a record number of jumble sales, which raise a phenomenal amount of money for local charities. It set us to thinking - what are the ways we can reuse, rather than recycle? In a bid to create less waste we’ve been doing our bit in the BN5 office and in the past year have used composting and the blue lidded recycle bin only, which means we send very little to landfill. It’s been an interesting process and a lot less painful than you’d think. We’re doing the little things, like re-filling bamboo coffee mugs while indulging our cappuccino habit rather than using paper takeaway ones (all our fantastic village coffee shops will refill). More local ideas on page 26. We’d like to wish the team from Pedal for Henfield the very best of luck as they embark on their Paris to Henfield Bike Ride on 16th March, to raise money for two great local charities, the Henfield Haven and Henfield Leisure Centre. Please support them if you can, every little counts!
