BMHBA PWB We want to express our heartfelt thanks to Boulder Homes for graciously letting us host our fall social at one of their newly constructed homes. It was a fantastic evening filled with camaraderie and connection. We also extend our gratitude to Cottingham Insurance for generously providing appetizers for everyone. Your contributions made the event even more delightful! Professional Women in Building is all about fostering a supportive community of women in the construction industry, and our social events play a crucial role in this mission. In fact, a couple of our members from Fabricators Unlimited and Front Street Millwork and Lumber were a part of this beautiful build! These gatherings give us the opportunity to connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships.

Around Our State The holiday season is officially here! As the construction season has slowed down, use this “extra” time to spend time with family and friends. November is Spike Appreciation Month and many of you may not know what the SPIKE club is. This is NAHB’s most valuable tool for recruitment and retention. Plus, Spikes can take advantage of a variety of benefits that come because of your efforts. Each year, Spikes who have recruited at least one new builder and/or associate member receive two tickets to the Closing Spike Concert (COLE SWINDELL) at IBS. In addition, Spikes who have recruited at least five new builder and/or associate members receive an invite to the VIP section at the concert where you can enjoy complimentary food and drinks. Please visit with me if you’re unsure of your Spike status or how to “join” the club!

I was happy to attend the BMHBA Fall Mixer & Board Elections on October 17th. It was great to see a full room of the membership there to support the incoming board nominees and award winners. Special Guest, NAHB’s First Vice Chairman of the Board Carl Harris, was in attendance and discussed updates on NAHB and spoke on the importance of your membership! CONGRATS to the 2023 BMHBA Award Winners and the new directors appointed to the 2024 BMHBA Board of Directors! The first annual Area 10 Leadership Conference was a great success! Various Executive Officers, staff, and emerging leaders across ND, SD, MN, WI, and IA met up in Minneapolis for a two-day training in October. This conference was uniquely designed to offer sessions that support the professional development of both member leaders and HBA staff. NAHB leadership in attendance included NAHB President & CEO, Jim Tobin, NAHB Chairman of the Board, Alicia Huey, and NAHB 1 st Vice Chairman of the Board, Carl Harris. We encourage all emerging leaders throughout our state to join us in 2024! NDAB’s fall events are almost here! You should have received a formal invitation in the mail and by email. If you haven’t registered for our events, please do so at www.ndbuild.com/events. The BUILD-PAC event will be held the night of November 15th with a Bourbon Tasting, “Politics of Whiskey” class, then a social after. Committee meetings will take place November 16th and the day will conclude with our Annual Banquet & Social. After the conclusion of the program, we will have a DJ & Dance where we will celebrate a great year with the HBA! The NDAB Fall Board Meeting will be held on November 17 th. We encourage all members to make the trip to Fargo as we induct our 2024 Board of Directors and announce our 2023 Award Winners. Fargo Paint & Glas s Company — Natalie Volanti & Jeff Lovdal

Jeff—Millwork Outside Sales: I was raised in Mandan, ND. Graduated from Mandan High School. Studied English at Minot State University. (Go Beavers!!) I currently live in Bismarck with my wife of 17 years. We have 2 children. Andrew (15) and Gabe (12). In April, I will be celebrating 4 years with Fargo Glass. What is an interesting or fun fact about your business that most people don’t know? FGP is known for our commercial glass and entry door systems. We are so much more than that. We sell residential entry door systems, Sierra Pacific Windows, EDCO steel siding and steel roofs. Royal PVC Products, flooring, cabinets, paint, and window coverings. We have a really great array of products to offer. Do you have any advice for someone just entering this industry? Jump in, it’s the best decision you will ever make! Once you’re a part of this industry, you will never want to leave. What is a typical day like for you? Jeff— A typical day for me is generally sleeping in till about ten. Get up just in time to hit my 11 o’clock tee time. Just kidding, my job is great, but not quite that great. As an outside salesperson, I wear a lot of hats and my actual days can vary substantially. Could be selling, training my customers on products. I spend a lot of time in my car traveling throughout my territory. I also get my tools out and do a fair amount of service work when needed. Natalie— Usually, I start my morning out by catching up on emails, then I hit the road. While traveling my territory, I stop by or call my customers to check in and see what they need. Each day is full of great conversations and many miles driven. If we weren’t in this industry what would your next choice be and why would it be? I don’t think I could avoid this industry, but I could see myself on the architecture and interior design side of it. Helping people is in my nature and getting to help them curate a space that they love would be very rewarding. What do you hope to see Fargo Glass & Paint accomplish in the coming years? Continued growth of product diversification. adding great employees Continued growth company wide. Not only in the diversification of our product offerings, but also with our people. We have so many talented employees that help us succeed, and I would love to see us continue to add more great people. What makes your business unique from other home/commercial supply, retail, and distribution in the area? Jeff— I think the thing that separates us from other companies is the people. We have great people. People who are knowledgeable in their field. Our management hires great people and establishes a culture of good people. Natalie— We are 100% employee owned. We all have a share in our success and that drives us to go the extra mile, especially with our customers. What is your favorite part of your job? I love the fact that no two days are ever the same. I represent a great company and the great products we offer. There is a new challenge every day and being challenged every day is something I really enjoy. What is your favorite quote that speaks to you or business model the most? Jeff— “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” -Wayne Gretzky Natalie— “If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.” John Wooden Website: https://www.fargoglass.com/
