WINTER TEAMS ON TRACK FOR ANOTHER RECORD-SETTING SEASON BY MADELINE BARKER fter a very successful fall sports season, the winter athletes are doing their part to bring home more hardware.

Indoor Track Last year, the boys indoor track team took home first place at the state meet and seem to have grown accustomed to it. Senior Nathan Newsome, who was a vital part of the boys indoor track win last year is still playing an integral part if the team. He even set a new school record in the 60 meter dash. One runner to watch is senior Regina Rose who led the girls cross country team to win the state meet and is now committed to Bowling Green University for Cross Country and Track & Field. One relay to watch is the Boys 4x400 relay including seniors Dylan Christian, Nathan Newsome and Aiden Flaherty and junior Christian Barker. Senior Ava Minton is having an amazing season with a PR in the 200 meter dash and is a vital part of several

girls relays including the 4x200 meter relay. Swimming Despite many setbacks due to Covid-19 protocol and cancelled meets, the swim team remains resilient. Senior Olivia Muscarello maintained not only several injuries but also tested positive for Covid-19 and was still determined to bounce back. Bouncing back from a major shoulder injury, Muscarello took her competitors by surprise, placing 5th overall last Wednesday, also earning herself a personal record time of 1.17 in the 100 yard Backstroke. Girls Basketball After having a phenomenal season record of 27-1 for the 2020-2021 season, girls basketball is determined to show they still got it. In the January 12 game at Newark Catholic, they maintained control of the court and finished the game with a score of 52-32. Sophomore Harper Annarino was the lead scorer with 14 points and Junior Ella Wigal was close behind
Boys Basketball Enduring a tough start to the season on December 15, the boys basketball team bounced back, most recently, beating Pataskala in a nail biter game with a final score of 46-42. Most recently, they won 51-49 against Licking Valley. Competition Cheer After dominating the opposition at the 2021 State cheer competition, the cheerleaders are determined to keep their reputation and show up and show out. Because the football team had an extended season, the cheerleaders also did and had minimal rest time but bounced back quickly, taking home the first place title. Their nearest competition will be at OSU on Sunday January 23 and in March, the team will head down to Orlando, Florida to compete in nationals. Bowling The bowling team is having a very fun season. They are 6-3 overall and 6-2 in the LCL with the goal of winning the LCL or getting second or third overall. The Bowling postseason begins mid-February with the LCL Tournament, followed by the Sectional Tournament, with the goal of getting the entire team to Districts and some individual bowlers to the State Tournament. Wrestling The Wrestling team has had a very successful season and is looking forward to the postseason. Their current record is 5-0.
