People make New Year's resolutions just to fit in with others.
At this time of the year, everyone is thinking the same thing; what will be my New Year’s resolution? People feel that they have to decide a different way to live their life just because the calendar changes. This can cause a lot of stress and implement improper ways for people to deal with their habits.

New Year's resolutions are a wasteful and ineffective way for people to change their lives.
When choosing a New Year’s resolution, people go one of two ways.
Some people scramble to come up with a resolution just to claim they have one. When people have a resolution that they have to think hard about to come up with and do not have a reason or motivation behind it, the resolution will not turn out to be successful. If people want a change in their life just for the sake of having a resolution and not to better themselves, they will fail to feel motivated enough to achieve the change in their life. Since these goals are mostly random, they will be unattainable goals for the New Year. These goals can actually discourage improvement in people’s lives because they will be too high for people to reach, especially without motivation behind them.
Next, there are the people who notice problems in their lives days or weeks before the New Year. They notice these problems, yet wait until the calendar turns to break their habits.
The days and weeks that they continue to do these habits only strengthen their connection to these problems. People should change these problems when they notice them, not wait for the New Year and cement the problems more into their routine. People should constantly be looking for ways to improve themELLA KUNAR selves. By taking action upon their problems rather than waiting for January 1st, they are more likely to accomplish more. People claim that the New Year is a fresh start. This is simply illogical. January 1st is a new day, just like any other day of the year. Rather than idolizing the turning of a calendar, we should constantly be looking to better ourselves and focus on the individual days in our lives; not waiting for the next year to come.
WITHOUT WINTER FORMAL THERE IS NOT A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO
A small thing like a dance could make a big difference
The weather is an essential part of daily life whether we realize it or not. When you wake up you check the weather to see how you will be dressed that day, if you will be spending time inside or outside, and a lot of one's day can revolve around what it is like outside.
This is an uncontrollable variable that we have to pay attention to every day. It would be one thing if it only affected materialistic things, like your clothes, or what car you're driving, but the real reason it is so important is because of the mental effects that come with weather change.
Waking up in the morning and getting out to your car just to have to scrape off the windshield and turn on the defrost so you are not late to school could be the worst way to start the morning. It is the little daily tasks, like walking in and out of buildings or waiting for your car to warm up that can be made absolutely miserable by cold weather.
It is hard not to let the cold weather bring you down because you are not able to spend as much time outside. Something that can make it more bearable is making the most of what you can do inside, things like sporting events, and holidays or a winter formal.
Students look forward to winter formal because it gives them something to do in the winter months. When it starts to get cold there are not as many activities through the school. Having a school dance in the middle of February gets everyone’s spirits up.
We were able to have homecoming, full capacity football and basketball games, and we are all in close
distance in the cafeteria for lunch. Winter formal is just like any of these activities, and plus it is optional. Students who are worried about Covid can not go, and the school could also make masks required at the dance. Seniors especially would love to have a winter formal because it is DANIELLE VARRASSO the last time they get a true school dance. After a lot of senior privileges have been taken we just want some of the fun events with all the grades together. Mental health needs to be prioritized more when it comes to the winter, students are more prone to becoming depressed, lonely, and also lack motivation. Something that feels small like a winter formal dance can make all the difference to students because it gives an opportunity for fun.
