METEOR International theatre festival

Inspired by the apap network’s feminist guidelines and ideas of sharing economies, the Feminist Futures festivals are imagined as a series of appointments, presented back to back, each of them jointly conceived, managed, financed and realizsed by two or three partner institutions and communicated as a singular European event by the network. The festival highlights the work, practices and engagements of the network’s artists, and hosts the Feminist School.

Welcome to Meteor 2023!

This edition of Meteor is a rich constellation formed by multiple orbits, tangents and crossings. Thanks to the many generous collaborators, new and old, that BIT Teatergarasjen endeavours to engage with, so that no single perspective should dominate.

Over 11 days, Meteor hosts the European network apap – Feminist Futures which offers a suite of performances, Feminist School; workshops and discursive program that draws out the provocative approaches to intersectional feminist dramaturgy as embodied, represented and practised by the current art generation.

‘Criticality’ – an attitude that BIT Teatergarasjen persistently advocates – is ablaze in Meteor this year as a national army of theoreticians, historians, journos and opinion-makers assemble to debate the state of theatre criticism. Welcome onboard, the Norwegian Theatre Academy, Tekstallianse, Cornerstone and Proscen!

As a curatorium, we give space to a plethora of optics over a straight-jacketed selection.

Hence you can find works that are individual gems alongside works-in-progress up for an audience-test. Many trade in strategies of ‘returning the gaze’, from re-appropriating language to disembedding histories and reinventing rituals.

At the end of the day, after a full palate of encounters, as we discuss and debate, we too shall revel in parties: music, booze and boogie!

Indeed, let the cup overflow and let the bells ring, as 2023 heralds the year of twin happiness for us: the 40th jubilee of BIT Teatergarasjen and 25th jubilee of our Prøverommet platform!

The Curatorium: Tang Fu Kuen, Ingrid Ellestad, Kristina Melbø Valvik

VISNINGSROMMET USF – FESTIVALHUB Festivalens hub og hjerte i år blir på Visningsrommet USF. Det blir en rekke små og store arrangementer, og et naturlig sted å møtes både før og etter forestillinger.

BIT stiller ut ting fra arkivet. En første markering av en planlagt feiring av 40-årsjubileet som skal strekker seg inn i neste år. Bergen Internasjonale Teaterfestival ble grunnlagt i 1983 og arrangerte sin første festival i 1984 – Teatertreff’84. Prøverommet kom i 1998 og feirer 25-årsjubileeum med 2295 særegne innslag så langt. Det blir flere anledninger til å dykke ned i historien på Visningsrommet i år.

Prøverommet har invitert Fergus Tibbs til å forandre rommet. (Dub Version) er en installasjon som er inspirert av musikkformen, forstått som låter kokt ned til det vesentlige – trommer og bass, ofte uten tekst og på B-siden av albumet. Installasjonen består av enkle skulpturer ment å ta imot og forene folk. Den skal være både engasjerende og dynamisk, og bygge en felles arena. Installasjonen tjener både som installasjon, hub, scene og pub. Åpningstidene (se hjemmesiden) er forsøkt tilpasset det øvrige som skjer og den naturlige flyten i festivalen.

The center of the festival, the hub and heart, will be at Visningsrommet USF Verftet. It will be filled with a lot of smaller and bigger events, and a natural place to mingle and meet before and after performances.

BIT was founded in 1983 and made its first festival in 1984, called Teatertreff’84.

Prøverommet came in 1998 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary, having presented 2295 individual projects so far. There will be several opportunities to look into history at Visningsrommet this year.

Fergus Tibbs has been invited by Prøverommet to transform the room. (Dub Version) is an art installation inspired by the musical term of the same name. It embodies the concept of stripping a song down to its essentials, often just drums and bass, devoid of lyrics (often on a B side). Similarly, this collection of sculptural forms represents the essential infrastructure for a space designed to host and unite people. (Dub Version) explores the power of simplicity and adaptability in creating spaces for communal experiences. Throughout the festival, the installation will function as a social hub, venue and pub.

The opening times (see homepage) and bar are arranged in accordance with the geographical flow of the festival.

Signe Becker (NO) OVER ÆVNE

Hvem gjør jobben? Hvem tar æren? Er dette et verk av Signe Becker? På Bergen Kjøtt arbeider en gruppe teatermalere på flere digre malerier.

I denne forestillingen er det malerne og deres arbeidsprosess som stilles ut, i tillegg til maleriene de maler. Den handler om maleren og malerfagets håndverkstradisjon, og setter ideen om den uavhengige kunstnerens status i spill. Arbeidet vil pågå i 4 dager. Publikum kan komme og gå som de vil.

Who does the job? Who takes the honour? Is this a work by Signe Becker? A group of scenic painters work on several huge paintings at Bergen Kjøtt. The artists and their work is on display, not just the paintings. The work will develop over four days. The work is about the painters and their tradition of handicraft in theatre, and puts the idea of the autonomy of the artist in play. People can come and go as they please.

Thjerza Balaj (NO/DK) Ruzalka

Vannymfen Rusalka, en typisk kvinnelig skikkelse i slavisk folkekultur, lokker unge menn ut på dypt vann, tvinner sitt lange hår rundt beina deres og trekker dem under.

Thjerza inviterer publikum tett på for å trekke oss under overflaten av denne folkelige stereotypien. Stykket handler om det kvinnelige blikket, eierskap, myte og maktstrukturer, og viser hvor lett det er for en dansende Rusalka å tvinne publikums oppmerksomhet rundt lillefingeren.

The water nymph Ruzalka, a typical female character in Slavic folklore, lures young men into the depths of waterways where she will entangle their feet with her long hair and submerge them. Thjerza invites the audience closer in order to pull us beneath the surface by this stereotype. This piece addresses the female gaze, ownership, myth, and power structures, demonstrating how easily the dancing Ruzalka captures our attention.

Et live symfonisk dansemesterverk som strutter av vilje til liv og røre. Mortal Tropical Dances skaper et intenst forhold til publikum.

Vulkansk varme fra det menneskelig ubevisste velter frem på scenen, og driver danserne ut i livsbekreftende seremonier. De danser og spiller, synger og ber, og frem kommer energi, sensualitet, håp, galskap, dyp glede, lidelse, humor, varme, fantasi og velbehag.

A live symphonic dance masterpiece glittering of will to life and crazyness. The production brings the daring and wise heat of the human subconscious to the stage. Mortal Tropical Dances connects intensively with the audience by dancing, playing, singing and praying out energy, sex, hope, madness, deep joy, suffering, humour, imagination, warmth and comfort.

Ofelia Jarl Ortega (SE) StM - a version

Den opprinnelige StM er en solo av Ofelia Jarl Ortega. Danseren gjør seg til objekt for betraktning på en måte som også utfordrer tilskueren. Det er et sted som pulserer, som gir etter og som gir kropp til tilskuerens blikk.

I StM – a version utløser danseren Paolo de Venecia Gile helt andre energier i det samme formatet. Han åpner noen nye tolkninger og bekrefter den makten som ligger i blikket på sin måte.

StM is originally a solo by Ofelia Jarl Ortega, where the dancer’s voluntary objectification questions the participation of the observer.

It’s a space that pulses, yields and gives the spectator’s gaze a body. In StM - a version, the same format is at play while the dancer Paolo de Venecia Gile brings new dynamics on stage, triggering additional readings to the work and confirming the gaze’s potential as a tool of power.

Mallika Taneja (IN) Be Careful

En kort veiledning i hvordan kvinner bør oppføre seg. Be Careful handler om vold mot kvinner på bakgrunn av hvordan de kler seg.

Indiske Mallika Taneja har turnert med denne forestillingen i ti år. Det som først og fremst er en satire over et stagnert sosialt framskritt i India, har siden vist seg å resonnere i de fleste av verdens kulturer. Ordene “careful” og “safe” har fått nytt innhold i denne tiden, men forholdene er like elendige.

A quick guide to how women should behave.

Be Careful is about violence against women based on how they dress. Indian artist Mallika Taneja has toured extensively with this piece throughout the past decade. This satirical piece exposes the contradictions beyond India’s stagnated social progress and challenges the notion of safety in a world where the words ‘be careful’ and being ‘safe’ have taken on newer and seemingly more urgent meanings.

En danseforestilling om statlige overgrep mot norsk urbefolkning, og om mulighetene for forsoning. Sara, Nango og Carte Blanche har hentet sine egne historier, samt alle elementer til scenografien, fra Finnmarksvidda, og inviterer publikum til å overvinne berøringsangsten for et tungt og vanskelig tema. «Birget» er et nordsamisk ord for berging, og beskriver det å mestre eller overleve i et miljø i forandring.

A dance piece about the Norwegian state’s persecution of Sámi people, and the potential for reconciliation. Sara, Nango, and Carte Blanche have collected their own stories, as well as all the scenographic elements, from Finnmarksvidda and invite the audience to deal with this dark yet important subject.

“Birget” is a Northern Sami word for “coping with” and describes the act of survival in an ever-changing environment.

Environmental Justice Questions Workshop er en rekke spørsmål for diskusjon og debatt om miljørettferdighet, i form av et kortspill. Harun har invitert en rekke mennesker til å formulere gode spørsmål, alt fra aktivister, forfattere, kunstnere, teoretikere, arkitekter, kokker og naturhistorikere til gartnere. De forskjellige utgavene har forskjellige bidragsytere, designere og oversettere, og spørsmålene blir fler og fler.

Environmental Justice Questions Workshopis a compilation of questions for discussion and debate. Harun has invited a range of people including activists, writers, scientists, artworkers, theorists, architects, chefs, natural historians and horticulturalists to propose a question relating to environmental justice. Different iterations of the expanding publication will have different contributors, designers and translators.

Biret & Gáddjá Haarla Pieski (SAPMI/FI) Čalmmiid Čađa - Starting from Staring

”Čalbmat” betyr å få øye på. Denne dansetrippen begynner med å stirre, med å se, med bare å se. Dernest med å se uten fordommer, forventinger eller forklaringer, for dernest å møte hverandre, og være her. De lar slektskapet være tilstrekkelig, lar det strømme gjennom øynene, inn i innvollene, kroppen.

En begynnelse uten prat. De to begynner med å rive ord fra hverandre...

”Čalbmat” means starting to see. This dance trip starts from staring, from watching, from only watching. Then seeing without preconceptions, expectations or explanations, then meeting each other and with this place.

Allowing the kinship to be enough. Allowing it to go through the eyes, into the guts, into the body.

A start without talking. The two of them start by tearing the words apart…

Sonya Lindfors (FI/CM) One Drop

One Drop er en spekulativ danse- forestilling, en dekolonial drøm, en obdusering av den vestlig teaterscenens døde kropp, og en operette.

“One drop” er navnet på en rytme – en stilart i reggae, hvor trommeslag sammenfaller med bassen, og navnet på en lov – one drop-regelen, opprettet i USA på begynnelsen av 1900-tallet for å adskille svarte og hvite. Et verk om virkelige og virksomme spøkelser i historien, om makt, representasjon og den svarte kroppens politikk.

A piece about the real and working ghosts of history, about power, representation, and black body politics.

Med «hvis – så»-slutninger i kjernemuskulaturen, stilles det spørsmål om hva en sammenhengende koreografisk tankerekke kan være, eller hva den kan likne på. Tittelen er et ordrim med hint om magi. Spell som i stave og trylleformular, spectacle som i noe å se på og noe man ser med.

Spelling Spectacle is a performance about logic, consequence and possibility. With “if, then” as undercurrent, the piece asks what a coherent choreographic train of thought can be or look like. The title is an alliteration evoking a sense og magic. Spell as in decoding and magical formula, spectacle as something to be seen and something one sees through.

PRØVEROMMET AT VISNINGSROMMET USF Prøverommet så kveldens lys tirsdag 22. september 1998 i BITs forhenværende teater, Teatergarasjen. Det ble et sted å prøve ut nytt kunstnerisk materiale i flere kunssjangre på samme kveld for et publikum – et opplegg som har stått seg. Ti år senere ble det til den nomadiske arenasurferen det er i dag. Mange prosjekter dukker opp i sine tidligste stadier på Prøverommet. Det er et livaktig miljø for nye stemmer, tanker og ideer. Prøverommet fyller 25 år denne sesongen, og hvert arrangment er en feiring. Prøverommet first saw the light of night Tuesday the 22. of September 1998 at BIT’s former venue, Teatergarasjen. It came as a space to try out new artistic material in all genres with an audience – a concept that is unchanged. Ten years later it evolved into the venue-hopping platform it is today. Many projects appear in their earliest stages at Prøverommet, it’s a vibrant environment where new voices, thoughts and ideas can be seen and heard. This season, Prøverommet has reached 25 years old and every event is a celebration. At Meteor 2023, we invite you to the biggest celebration of them all with good help from Fergus Tibbs, the artist behind the installation (Dub Version) that is exhibited throughout the festival. The buren collective often uses imagination and humor to challenge the environment in which they operate. Here they bring to life more than two thousand inscriptions that the duo has spotted in the street, in shops and online, all served in an ironic, provocative and unexpected manner.

Mycoscores / Choreospores er et nettverk av 31 dansepartiturer (scores). Partiturene er utgangspunkt for en dypøkologisk danselek, skrevet ned på hvert sitt kort. Meningen er å trekke koplinger mellom soppen og menneskets måte å være og tenke på, og bruke fantasien fysisk. Den som vil kan danse med.

Maija Hirvanen vil selv gi en kort innledning til leken. Deretter er det mulig å prøve seg på to av koreografiene sammen med de andre, for så å avslutte med en samtale om soppen, dansen og livet.

Mycoscores / Choreospores is a network of 31 artistic scores. The scores create a deep ecological dance game for drawing connections between fungal and human ways of being and thinking. At Meteor, Maija Hirvanen invites the people joining to play along with dancing, composing, and physical imagination by way of the scores, printed on cards. The session includes an introduction to the cards, lightheartedly doing two of the Mycoscores together, and a discussion on fungi, dance, and life.

The legendary Dewey Dell have previously brought us to the moon and to witness prehistoric cave paintings. This time around they bring us a classic: Igor Stravinski’s The Rite of Spring, musical history’s most outrageous ballet and milestone of dissonance.

We are given the yearly birth of spring as seen from the inside, from the pregnant belly of the Earth. Sacre also means sacred in French.

Stravinski himself imagined the male village elders sitting in a ring as they observed a young woman dancing herself to death.

Sometimes I see the Future is a deep dive into in the world of the metaverse. In this lecture Ka Fai investigates the fantastic world of cosplaying and dance on social media. How can human become such a virtual existence in our accelerated digital culture? The Opening Night will be at Visningsrommet USF. One installation has opened. One show has just finished. Others are about to begin. But we will gather here in mutual expectation and joy. First of all to mark a new beginning, pick up on the program and maybe an improvised speech, but most importantly to pick up on old and new friends. The party later on depends on you.

Elleve dager senere samles vi på Landmark for avslutningsfest. Det er en fest for å feire kunsten og ta foreløpig farvel. Distribution of aesthetics – a short history of BIT Teatergarasjen’s first years Feminist School – Lecture and open discussion Grethe Melby jobber på en monografi om historien til BIT på Universitetet i Bergen.

Avhandlingen hennes ser på de retoriske strategiene til teatret i sitt møte med den norske offentligheten. Grethe Melby is working on a monograph about the history of BIT at the University of Bergen.

Her dissertation examines the rhetorical strategies of the theatre in its encounter with the Norwegian public. It looks into how the theatre has been met by critics, politicians and other participants in the public sphere, and also how the theatre has argued for its view of theatre and performing arts to bureaucracy and funding authorities.

Environmental Justice Questions Workshop Feminist School – Workshop Environmental Justice Questions er organisert og redigert av Harun Morrison. En samling spørsmål for diskusjon og debatt. Environmental Justice Questions, organised and edited by Harun Morrison, is a compilation of questions for discussion and debate. Harun has invited a range of people including activists, writers, artworkers, theorists, architects, chefs, natural historians and horticulturalists to propose a question relating to environmental justice that can stimulate conversation. The workshop will involve a series of small-group discussions around chosen questions followed by a larger group discussion.

Doing Dramaturgy: Thinking Through Practice (New Dramaturgies) Feminist School – Lecture Et foredrag på engelsk basert på den nylig utgitte Doing Dramaturgy: Thinking Through Practice (Springer 2023). Boken handler om hvordan dramaturgi forholder seg til dagens svært så allsidige felt av teater, dans og performance. Første del er om dramaturgens deltakelse og den dramaturgiske måten å se på forestillinger og hvordan de lages. Andre del tar for seg 14 forestillinger og de som laget dem. Boken er en viktig ressurs for studenter og andre som ønsker å utvikle sin egen dramaturgiske praksiss. Bleeker er professor i teater og performance ved Universitetet i Utrecht.

A lecture based on the recent Doing Dramaturgy: Thinking Through Practice (Springer 2023). This book explores how doing dramaturgy is informed by today’s highly diverse field of theatre, dance and performance.

The first part is about the participation of the dramaturg and the dramaturgical mode of looking at performances and their making. The second part discusses fourteen performances and their makers. The book is an essential resource for students and others aspiring to develop their own dramaturgical practice. Bleeker is a professor of Theatre and performance at Utrecht University.

The feminist pornscapes, on feminist dramaturgical thinking in dance and performance practice Feminist School – Reading group Tittelen er den samme som Ana Dubljevićs bok fra 2021. Her ser hun nærmere på ideen om feministisk dramaturgi, og måter dramaturgi kan fungere på som feministisk praksis. I denne lesegruppen inviterer hun oss til å se på dramaturgi – ikke bare som en måte å skape mening på scenen, men og som en helt vanlig form for tenkning og føling i skapelsesprosessen, organiseringen, produksjonen og formidlingen av en forestilling. Deltakerne blir invitert til å reflektere og dele eksempler fra sitt eget kunstneriske og kulturelle virke. Ana Dubljević (Beograd) både opptrer, underviser og undersøker. Hun er en lidenskapelig tilhenger av erotisk poesi og håper på en generalstreik globalt.

The title referes to the book of Ana Dubljević from 2021, where she explores the notion of feminist dramaturgy and the ways in which dramaturgy can be experienced as a feminist practice. In this reading group, she invites us to view (feminist) dramaturgy - not only as production of meaning on stage, but also as the common practice of thinking-feeling within the process of creation, organisation, production and dissemination of a performance. Participants are invited to reflect and share examples of their own artistic and cultural practices. Ana Dubljević (Belgrade) performs, teaches and explores, is passionate about erotic poetry and hopes for a planetary general strike.

GRIP GRIP gir kurs til folk som er ute etter praktisk erfaring og ferdigheter i lydteknikk. Kvinner, ikke-binære og transkjønnede mennesker er sterkt underrepsresentert i denne bransjen.

Mellom 2021 og 22 kurset GRIP 141 personer i et forsøk på å forandre på det. Mange av dem jobber nå som profesjonelle lydteknikere. I løp av Meteor skal GRIP presentere arbeidet sitt og holde et introduksjonskurs der de holder til på Bergen Kjøtt. Samtidig vil deltakere fra et mer inngående kurs følge teknikere på flere produksjoner under festivalen.

GRIP is an ongoing series of courses for practical experience and skills in sound engineering. Women, non-binary and transgender people are strongly underrepresented in this field. Between 2021-22, GRIP trained 141 people in their effort to change this, many are now working as professional sound technicians. During METEOR, GRIP will present their work and hold an introductory course in their home at Bergen Kjøtt.

At the same time, participants from an in-depth course will be shadowing technicians on several productions at the festival.

Grip 2023 is a collaborative project between Bergen Kjøtt, BIT Teatergarasjen, Carte Blanche, AKKS Bergen and sound engineer Irene Bjørke. GRIP 2023 is organized with partners in Bergen including Borealis – a festival for experimental music and Vill Vill Vest and is supported by Sparebanken Vest, Bergen municipality, Kulturrom, and apap-FEMINIST FUTURES (financed by the Creative Europe program in the EU).

GRIP har vippet denne statistikken. 92% av deltakerne på kurset mellom 2021 og 22 var kvinner, ikke-binære eller transkjønnet. Dette blir en anledning til å høre fra noen av GRIPs egne nøkkelpersoner, samarbeidspartnere og deltakere.

In 2022 it was reported that 93% of all technicians in Norway are cis-male. GRIP has been flipping the statistics: 92% of the participants in the courses between 2021-22 were women, non-binary and transgender people. This is an opportunity to hear directly from some of GRIP’s key instigators, collaborators and participants.

En kort dokumentar om forestillingen BIRGET; ways to deal, ways to heal. Filmen viser samarbeid, samtaler og kunstnerisk utforskning mellom samiske kunstnere, internasjonale dansere og produksjonsapparatet på Carte Blanche. Den gir publikum et innblikk i den menneskelige, sosiale, politiske og kunstneriske dimensjonen av forestillingsprosessen. Dokumentaren viser også hvordan bevegelsesspråk og sceniske elementer er koblet til et samisk liv i dag. Leonardsen er en norsk og samisk filmskaper og visuell kunstner, for tiden basert i Kautokeino. Lengde: 32 minutter. Tekstet på engelsk.

A short dokumentary of BIRGET; ways to deal, ways to heal. The film shows the exchanges, reflections and discoveries between Sami artists, international dancers and the production apparatus at Carte Blanche.

The audience is given an opportunity to experience the human, social, political and artistic dimension of the creation process.

The documentary also gives an insight in how movement language and scenic elements are connected to Sami life today. Leonardsen is a Norwegian and Sami filmmaker and visual artist, currently based in Kautokeino. Length: 32 minutes. English subtitles.

En workshop om kroppslighet og fantasmatisk tenkning. Om koblinger mellom det ubevisste og en spesiell form for bevegelsesteknikk.

Bare tenk på alt det morsomme og uvanlige som kommer frem når kroppen kommer ut av kroppen på forskjellige vis, enten som en subjektiv eller kollektiv opplevelse. Elina Pirinen er kunstneren bak forest forestillingen Mortal Tropical Dances.

A workshop on corporeality and thinking in a phantasmatic way. On connections between the subconscious and a specific movement technique. Just think of all things fun and extraordinary that emerge when the body comes out of the body in different forms, both as a subjective and collective experience. Elina Pirinen is the artist behind the performance Mortal Tropical Dances.

Workshop with Bunny Cadag Denne workshopen skal lytte, sanse og navigere etter lyden i kroppen. Det er en oppfordring til å kanalisere de uutnyttede stemmene i det som vi er, styrket og næret av lyden fra den tropiske naturen på Filippinene.

Det er en invitasjon til å synge til selvet, til naturen og miljøet, til samfunnet og til “den andre”. Bunny Cadag (f. 1991, hun/de) er en filippinsk transfeminin multikunstner, og en av superkvinnene på Meteor med Eisa Jocson.

This workshop seeks to listen, sense, and navigate the sound in the body. Informed and powered by the tropical sounds of nature from the Philippines, this is a call to channel the untapped voices of our being. It is an invitation to sing back to the self, to nature and environment, to the community, and to the “other”. Bunny Cadag (b. 1991, she/they) is a Filipino transfeminine multi-disciplinary artist, and one of the Superwomen at Meteor with Eisa Jocson.

Meteor natt Det er ingen tvil om at meteorer oppleves best om natten. Når kosmisk støv og gjenstander bryter inn i jordens atmosfære, ses stråler og farger på nattehimmelen. Sammen med Karmaklubb* presenterer Meteor denne kvelden en himmelsk klubbkveld skrevet i stjernene. Kan du danse til vibrasjonene fra meteoren? Dette er kvelden som går inn i det kosmisk ubevisste.

It is an undeniable fact that meteors are best experienced at night. As cosmic debris enters the Earth’s atmosphere, it radiates and colors the dark night skies. Together with Karmaklubb*, Meteor is presenting a celestial club night that has been written in the stars.

Velkommen til nok en seanse for tanke og nytelse. Her skal vi med Karmaklubb* dykke ned i et kunstnerisk vennskap som går tilbake til 2018. Tony Cokes er en videokunstner med base i Rhode Island. Han er professor på institutt for moderne kultur og media ved Brown University. Cokes har stilt ut i hele verden, og er representert i flere store museer og kunstsamlinger.

Welcome to a thought and pleasure session that allows for a dive into an artistic friendship going back to 2018. Tony Cokes, born 1956, is a video artist working in Rhode Island, where he serves as Professor in the Department of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University. Cokes has been exhibited widely internationally, and is represented by large museums and collection worldwide.

En uformell prat til naturvin om kuratorisk praksiss, oppkobling med kunstnere og tenkere, samt queer-strategier for motstand og glede.

Det blir lansering av en tekst av Llorens og O’Donnell, skrevet for Karmaklubb*. O’Donnell er kurator i samtidskunst på MUNCH i Oslo med interesse for queerdiskursive parksisser, for det å utvikle nye verk med kunstnere, og ikke minst for naturvin. Llorens er en uavhenging fransk-amerikansk kurator og skribent med base i Stockholm. Hun underviser i kunstteori ved det kongelige kunstakademiet, og er en jevnlig bidragsyter Artforum og e-flux Criticism.

An informal chat with natural wine about curatorial practice, entanglements with artists and thinkers, and queer strategies of resistance and joy. Launch of a text by Llorens and O’Donnell, written for Karmaklubb*. O’Donnell is curator of contemporary art at MUNCH in Oslo with an interest in queer discursive practices, developing new works with artists, and natural wine. Llorens is a Franco-American independent curator and writer based in Stockholm. She teaches art theory at the Royal Institute of Art, and is a regular contributor to Artforum and e-flux Criticism.

Dewey Dell Tactile visit/guided tour dedicated to the stage elements of Le sacre du Printemps En omvisning som er åpen for alle, men tilrettelagt for folk med nedsatt syn. Den varer i 30 minutter. Det blir en kort muntlig presentasjon av verket, fulgt av en ordentlig tur backstage, hvor folk får røre ved scenografien, kostymene, masker og annet. Danserne vil være der og fortelle om karakteren de spiller.

Kompaniet anbefaler å gå og se forestillingen etterpå, og se for seg de forskjellige scenariene til Igor Stravinskyijs musikk.

The guided tour - open to all - is designed for people with visual impairments and it will be around 30 min long. There will be a short introduction-talk about the work, then a proper backstage tour where people can touch the setup, costumes, masks, props and so on.

The dancers will also introduce themselves and their characters. We would recommend you to go to the show afterwards in order to imagine the different scenarios to the music by Igor Stravinsky.

Plattform x Meteor: Eisa Jocson Eisa Jocson synliggjør kroppens politikk i service- og underholdningsbransjen, sett fra et sosioøkonomisk filippinsk perspektiv.

Hun ser på hvordan kroppen beveger seg, og på vilkårene som får den i bevegelse – enten det gjelder sosial mobilitet eller bevegelse ut av Filippinene som migrantarbeider. I alle forestillingene sine – fra poledance og machodans eller vertinne til disneyprinsesse eller superkvinne og dyrehagedyr – så er det penger eller kapitalen som er den bevegende kraften, og som dytter den kontraktfestede kroppen ut i geografien. Eisa Jocson spiller i Filipino Superwoman Band på Meteor.

Plattform er Bergen Kunsthalls serie med forelesninger og debatter med kunstnere og tenkere. Denne gjøres i samarbeid med Meteor.

Eisa Jocson exposes body politics in the service and entertainment industry as seen through the socioeconomic lens of the Philippines.

She studies how the body moves and what conditions make it move – be it social mobility or movement out of Philippines through migrant work. In all her creations – from pole to macho dancing and hostess to Disney princess to Superwoman to Zoo animals – capital is the driving force of movement pushing the indentured body into spatial geographies. Eisa Jocson plays at Meteor 2023 with Filipino Superwoman Band.

apap - Feminist Futures in Residence: Harun Morrison (UK)

Harun Morrison har base i London. I oktober er han i apap – Feminist Futures residency for BIT Teatergarasjen på Studio 2 AIR Bergen, USF Verftet. Han skal videreutvikle et lydarbeide kalt How To Do Things With Non-Words.

Dette skal vi få stifte nærmere bekjentskap med i studioet hans. Han skal også utvikle et lyd-instruksjonsverk kalt Tester. På festivalen kommer han til å være til stede som kobler og mycel – den delen av soppen som tar opp næring fra omgivelsene – mellom forskjellige kunstnere, gjennom samtaler, workshoper og DJing.

London based artist Harun Morrison will be apap - Feminist Futures in Residency with BIT Teatergarasjen during October in Studio 2 AiR Bergen, USF Verftet. Harun will use this time to develop an evolving audio work, How To Do Things With Non-Words. You will be able to attend a current version of this work at his studio. He will also develop an audio-instruction based work, Tester. Harun’s presence will formally and informally act as a connector, or mycelium, between different artists in the festival through conversation, workshops and DJing.

Harun Morrison er en kunstner og skribent.

Han bor i narrowboat på innlandskanalene i Storbritannia. Han jobber med romlig design, tekst, video og lyd. Han er for tiden tilknyttet Greenpeace UK som kunstner og var nylig Designer and Researcher in Residence ved V&A Dundee i Scotland.

Harun Morrison is an artist and writer living on a narrowboat on the UK inland waterways.

His practice spans spatial design, text, video and sound. He is currently an associate artist with Greenpeace UK and former Designer and Researcher in Residence at V&A Dundee, Scotland.

“Speech-therapists use non-words as a diagnostic tool to gauge language skills. Non-words follow the typical structure of a word in a given language, but do not exist. The person being tested cannot rely on pre-familiarity and other social factors. The title of this work riffs on language philosopher J.L. Austin’s text How To Do Thing With Words...” (Originally commissioned as part of ‘Not Standing In Place’, a project by Vlatka Horvat & Tim Etchells, Zurich: Theater Spektakel Festival, 2021).

Apap

- FEMINIST FUTURES apap - advancing performing arts project er et internasjonalt nettverk av 11 kulturorganisasjoner fra hele Europa, og har eksistert siden 2000.

Gjennom finansiering fra forskjellige EU-kulturprogrammer har apap klart å kontinuerlig samarbeide om å støtte et stort antall kunstnere, samt å utvikle nye formater i henhold til endrede kunstneriske praksiser og behov gjennom årene.

Det nye prosjektet apap – FEMINIST FUTURES er delfinansiert av Creative Europe-programmet i EU og tar sikte på et enda mer ambisiøst formål: å iverksette drastiske sosiale endringer gjennom kunst. Hovedmålet med prosjektet er å imøtekomme ulikhet i samtidens scenekunst, ved å bruke tenkning fra interseksjonell feminisme for å finne konkrete strukturelle svar og øke offentlig bevissthet omkring denne tematikken.

Selve nettverket opererer også etter disse retningslinjene. Hver partner, med sine arbeidsmetoder og relasjoner, ettergår sine egne rutiner i lys av nettverkets verdier. Kan vi arbeide på en bedre måte? I løpet av disse fire årene støtter vi kunstnere på lang sikt - vi co-produserer, legger til rette for visninger og residencies. Partnerorganisasjonene utvikler også nye formater, som Feminist School; en omreisende feministisk skole, kunnskapsutveksling utenfor Europa, utvikler programmer for å gi lokale grupper tilgang til scenekunst, et mentorprogram for unge kritikere, forfattere og skrivekunstnere.
