What a pleasure it was to host BioZyme®’s highest achieving dealers – in dollars, action and growth – at the recent Dealer Retreat in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Olympic theme lent itself to conversations about what it takes to “get to the podium” in sports, life and business.
The podium (bronze, silver and gold) can also be symbolic of a popular selling model in many businesses called “Good, Better, Best.” The Good, Better, Best model has revolutionized consumer choices by offering a tiered selection that caters to a wide range of preferences and budgets. At its core, this model provides customers with options that vary in features, quality and price points, ensuring there’s something suitable for every individual.
The “Good” tier typically offers essential functionalities at an affordable price, appealing to budget-conscious consumers without compromising on basic needs. Moving up to “Better,” customers find enhanced features and improved performance, striking a balance between affordability and enhanced capabilities. Finally, the “Best” tier represents topof-the-line quality, boasting cutting-edge technology, superior craftsmanship and premium materials for those seeking the ultimate in performance and luxury.
This tiered approach not only simplifies decisionmaking but also empowers customers to make informed choices based on their specific needs and desires. Start looking and you will notice this model being used in various industries, from gas at fuel stations, to cable TV, to airline tickets and car washes because the customer is empowered to select which tier best caters to their needs.
At BioZyme, we are very anxious to announce a “Good, Better, Best” approach coming soon to the VitaFerm® line. During Dealer Retreat we officially unveiled the newest VitaFerm product, ReproMaxx®. ReproMaxx features all the premium benefits your customers need to take reproductive
success to the MAXX. Born out of an environment with high cattle prices and cutting-edge research, ReproMaxx is designed to provide research-proven technologies such as AO-Biotics® Amaferm® and Zinpro® Performance Minerals®. In fact, we are proud to announce that, through collaboration with Zinpro, ReproMaxx will be one of the few beef cattle minerals on the market to carry the Zinpro Verified seal.
ReproMaxx will be positioned as the “best” VitaFerm breeding mineral to fuel reproductive success, but it may not be for every customer. Concept-Aid® is still king, and it will be positioned as the “better” breeding mineral. Newcomer VitaFerm ONE will be positioned as the “good” breeding mineral.
We are excited about this Good, Better, Best approach. We hope you are, too.
Provides easy-to-differentiate options: Research shows that consumers prefer 3 to 4 choices when buying, especially if they are easy to differentiate. Most consumers will be likely to choose the middle or “better” option
2
Shifts the conversation from cost to value: The Good, Better, Best model shifts the consumer’s decision away from buy/don’t buy to which one to buy. This forces them to think through the value of the options as opposed to the cost of one product or service.
Provides wide market coverage: Offering multiple price points opens up your products or services to customers with higher or lower budgets and makes your offering more suitable to a wider consumer base.
ou might wonder why becoming an Olympic champion matters to you, a business owner or salesperson. Well, there are actually some similarities in the mindset of a champion - regardless of what you’re trying to accomplish.
Daniel Gould of the University of South Carolina and his collaborators designed a study to reveal just what it takes, psychologically speaking, to become an Olympian.
They recruited 10 U.S. Olympic champions (6 men and 4 women) who participated in openended in-depth interviews, as did a parent, guardian or significant other. The athletes also completed a psychological battery of tests. They were an impressive bunch. Together they won 32 medals— 28 of them gold. These athletes competed in one or more Olympic Games between the years 1976 and 1998, with an average of 2.4 Olympic games each. And they represented a wide array of sports, including skiing, wrestling, swimming, ice hockey, speed skating and track and field.
The researchers analyzed the interviews and assessment measures, and in the end, found 12 core psychological characteristics shared by these Olympic champions.
1. The ability to Cope with anxiety: coping with butterflies in one’s stomach worry, concentration and disruptions without getting anxious.
2. Confidence: positively motivated to consistently give their all during practices and games and works assiduously to improve his or her skills.
3. Mental Toughness: resilience, perseverance and the ability to successfully cope with adversity.
4. Sport Intelligence: the ability to analyze, being innovative in relation to one’s sport technique, being a student of the sport, make sound decisions, understanding how elite sport works and being a quick study.
5. The ability to focus on what you can control and block out distractions.
6. Competitive: having a killer instinct, being intense (e.g., having an aggressive and go for it attitude) and being a fighter and never giving up.
7. Having a Hard Work Ethic: being motivated, driven and a hard worker.
8. The ability to set and achieve goals: Studied Olympians showed a greater capacity to set and work toward specific performance goals, plan and mentally prepare for the games and have a clear strategy of how to perform their best.
9. Coachability: the ability for an athlete to be open to and learn from instruction and accept constructive criticism without taking it personally and becoming upset.
10. Hopefulness: having a signature way of setting, seeking out and achieving goals.
11. Optimism: by and large feel that positive things will happen and confront challenges with confidence and persistence.
12. Perfectionism: setting high personal standards and exhibiting a strong preference for organization.
During the BioZyme Dealer Retreat, our team focused on a few of these traits and how our champion dealers also have the same mindset to take their businesses to the next level.
At BioZyme, we see many of these same traits in our employees and our dealers. As we strive to be champions in our lives and businesses, we are no different from Olympic champions. Read more about the Dealer Retreat on pages 8-9 and how you can use some of these traits to take your business to the next level.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” This iconic quote by Helen Keller can summarize some of the best partnerships in business and life. It also nicely sums up the newest business partnership for BioZyme®
If you have received new shipments of BioZyme’s mineral or pellet products very recently, you might have noticed a new addition to the ingredients label – zinc, copper or manganese amino acid complexes. We are excited to announce a shift toward utilizing Zinpro® Availa® zinc, copper and manganese to help our customers continue to achieve optimal performance.
“Zinpro is as committed to research and technology as we are,” said Lisa Norton, BioZyme president and CEO. “This is an exciting time for our company, our dealers and our customers.”
A partnership between BioZyme and Zinpro is a natural fit since they are both global leaders in their respective fields. BioZyme is a leader in fermentation; Zinpro, a leader in trace minerals. Both are based on value-added outcomes and are fully committed to supporting their customers. Additionally, both BioZyme and Zinpro offer the latest technological advancements with research-proven results.
“As we enter a new era of value in production animal agriculture, it is going to take partnerships to make it work,” said Chris Cassady, Ph.D., BioZyme Director of Beef Technical Sales said. “The VitaFerm nutrition line is unique. We are the only ones focusing on research-proven technologies such as Amaferm®, and now Zinpro Performance Minerals.”
Why has BioZyme chosen to use Zinpro Performance Minerals® ?
BioZyme is committed to continuous improvement and quality. As research and knowledge progress within the industry, our team of Ph.D. nutritionists are constantly evaluating ingredients that will drive performance and care that comes full circle. Recently, with high cattle values, an additional emphasis has been placed on shifting toward as many researchproven technologies as possible to maximize return on investment for producers.
Through the Verified program, Zinpro has partnered with customers to ensure producers know if their feed products and mineral supplements are providing research recommended rates of Zinpro Performance Minerals. Time and time again, these supplementation rates have been proven to show the greatest benefits to animals at all stages of production. By using a product that has been Zinpro Verified, producers can trust the claims and researchproven benefits of Zinpro.
What are the benefits of Zinpro amino acid complexes?
There are four main benefits of utilizing amino acid complexes
1. Soluble
2. Stable
3. Absorbable
4. Metabolically available, meaning they better help the animal reach its full genetic potential.
“Absorption is key. Present research shows that using an amino acid complex opens multiple doors for absorption and increases mineral retention rate, providing for maximum utilization. Zinpro Performance Minerals also utilize amino acid transporters for uptake into the bloodstream,” Cassady said.
What changes will I see on the tag of BioZyme products with the inclusion of Zinpro?
The tag will now list organic trace minerals as amino acid complexes instead of amino acid chelates. As a part of the Verified program, the tag for ReproMaxx will also contain the following verbiage, “Intake level of 4 oz has been Zinpro® Verified to provide 3 g Zinpro® Availa® Zn, 2.5 g Zinpro® Availa® Mn and 1.25 g Zinpro® Availa® Cu.”
With combined corporate taglines of “Care That Comes Full Circle,” and “Advance Animal Nutrition and Health Together,” it’s easy to see that a partnership between BioZyme and Zinpro is a natural fit.
Together, we can positively impact the lives of more animals. Together, we can increase health and profitability, therefore increasing the producer’s bottom line. Together, we can do so much.
Buyers want options. Hopefully you gleaned that major point of reference in Lisa’s Letter this month. With that in mind, BioZyme® is excited to announce its newest mineral that will provide you, the dealer, a whole new opportunity for you to grow your revenue.
Introducing VitaFerm® ReproMaxx®, designed to Maxximize Reproductive Success. VitaFerm ReproMaxx products provide high vitamin and mineral fortification and research-proven components to take reproductive success to the MAXX.
ReproMaxx {COMING AUGUST 2024!}
• Contains AO-Biotics® Amaferm®, a prebiotic research-proven to enhance digestibility.
• Includes verified, research-proven levels of Zinpro organic zinc, copper and manganese.
• Maximizes reproductive success of the herd while supporting colostrum quality and bull soundness and fertility.
Moving to Good-Better-Best Adding VitaFerm ReproMaxx allows BioZyme to offer three choices of minerals to producers for reproductive success.
Decades of research, recently summarized by the Harvard Business Review, proves that the Good-Better-Best model works. With new product offerings, ONE and ReproMaxx, BioZyme now offers Good-Better-Best breeding minerals, so you and your customers can benefit.
“Competitiveness and hopefulness can be broken into three themes; having a killer instinct, being intense and being a fierce competitor,” said Chris Cassady, Ph.D., BioZyme Director of Beef Technical Sales said. “Developing a new top of the line reproductive mineral has been a two-year process because we are competitive, and we are hopeful that the producer will always see value in what we offer.”
VitaFerm ReproMaxx is part of the Zinpro Verified program and contains at or above the research-proven inclusion level of organic manganese, copper and zinc. Other VitaFerm products that contain Zinpro Performance Minerals include products from the Concept•Aid®, HEAT®, ONE and ReproMaxx lines. VitaFerm Conserve® does not contain any organic trace minerals.
Good: VitaFerm® ONE
Provide one solution to conveniently and consistently promote cattle performance in all seasons. This is an easy-to-implement solution for all seasons that contains Amaferm and Zinpro organic copper and zinc. This is a good mineral to target customers who have heard of VitaFerm and Amaferm and are looking for an introduction to the brand. We also think it’s a great option for folks that don’t need all the bells and whistles of the next two product lines because their breeding operation is more simplistic and doesn’t demand it.
Better: VitaFerm® Concept•Aid®
Promotes effective, easy breeding when fed 60 days pre-calving through 60 days post-breeding. Our triedand-true line of breeding mineral contains Amaferm, Zinpro organic copper, zinc and manganese as well as higher levels of vitamin and mineral fortification than ONE. You will likely have many customers stay at this level or get several new customers who have heard of Concept•Aid or Amaferm and want a quality breeding mineral. It’s a great option for producers that are using some reproductive technologies, such as AI and ET.
Best: VitaFerm® ReproMaxx®
Provides maximum performance within intensive reproductive systems. ReproMaxx contains Amaferm, research proven and verified levels of Zinpro organic copper, zinc and manganese as well as even higher levels of vitamin and mineral fortification as compared to Concept•Aid. Your target audience when marketing ReproMaxx should be those who use advanced reproductive technologies extensively. There will be room for some new customers within this line, and you will likely move a few of your “better” customers up to this level.
Just like BioZyme has a team of dedicated Area Sales Managers, Zinpro also has field reps that are willing to meet with your customers. Contact your ASM to invite a Zinpro rep to your next producer meeting.
We want you to be comfortable talking about the Good-Better-Best lines of VitaFerm nutrition. Here are a few talking points for your dealership.
• The main difference between ONE, Concept•Aid and ReproMaxx is the intensity of nutrition. ONE provides good nutrition, Concept•Aid provides better nutrition, and ReproMaxx provides the best nutrition.
• ReproMaxx contains less copper, more zinc than Concept•Aid or ONE (3:1 ratio). The reduced level of copper is due to the high percentage of highly available organic copper found in ReproMaxx. Animals store copper more efficiently than zinc.
• The increased level of organic zinc found in ReproMaxx provides research-proven support for hoof health and colostrum quality. Compared to copper, zinc is more transient in the system. It’s not stored as well as and there’s a much greater demand for zinc utilization, especially in growth and reproduction.
• All three VitaFerm product lines (ONE, Concept•Aid and ReproMaxx) can be used to achieve reproductive success. Depending on the goals and needs of your operation, you can select the VitaFerm mineral you need to fuel your reproductive success.
Cassady suggests identifying bull-focused producers in your area and inviting them to a meeting or discussion about their top challenges – soundness and fertility. This is a great opportunity to introduce them to VitaFerm ReproMaxx.

During the 2024 BioZyme® Dealer Retreat, June 4-6 in St. Joseph, we celebrated dealers that serve our end-user customers and achieved outstanding results in sales, growth and action in the year prior. A combination of networking, business and product education, good food and fun proved to be a gold medal formula for success.
Let the Games Begin!
The Dealer Retreat kicked off with the BioZyme Opening Ceremonies, parading in the Best of BioZyme Olympic Champions (our dealers) representing each of their territories. These territories and teams had a competitive first evening filled with the Olympic Games. Teams of BioZyme dealers and staff competed in Cornhole, Axe Throwing and Equestrian Show-Jumping to earn Bronze, Silver and Gold medals as a team.
The Opening Ceremonies concluded with a WOW’ing fireworks show, thanks to our partners at Zinpro. The teams loaded buses just as the rain moved in, but nobody’s spirits were dampened. Everyone was excited for the next day of learning and networking.
The Games Continue
Dealers were treated to a full day of learning, engagement and food at empowerU. Five rotations of sessions were led by BioZyme staff, including an interactive trade show. These sessions each revolved around one or more of the traits of the champions (see page 4) that Lisa Norton had detailed in her opening remarks. A full summary of each of the breakouts can be found on the Online Dealer Center under the “Marketing” tab.
• Ability to Set & Achieve Goals – Alan Lee, Vice President of Domestic Business
• Competitiveness & Hopefulness – Chris Cassady Ph.D., Director of Beef Technical Sales
• Optimism & Perfectionism – Lisa Norton, President & CEO
• Sport Intelligence – Ken Ford, Vice President of Animal Health
A fifth session on “coachability” led attendees through the Marketing Team’s trade show, where they also had a chance to learn about the diversity of products that BioZyme offers, and how to position those products in a trade show setting. Various
Olympic games were set up at each brand booth so the dealers could compete for bronze, silver and gold medals to use toward their bidding of one-of-a-kind items during the BioZyme live auction that evening.
After a fun evening of hearing world-champion auctioneer Charlie Cummings sell the items at the auction, dealers gathered for the final morning of the retreat. The 2023 sales and action awards were presented (see next page). Eric Termuende presented the keynote address and challenged everyone present to make small steps to make a giant impact.
Termuende is a best-selling author, internationally recognized thought leader and keynote speaker on all things future of work, leadership, workplace culture and talent management. After years spent studying the world’s greatest places to work, he has deciphered what sets amazing leaders apart from the rest, and what it takes to build incredible teams that are resilient, innovative and ready for the future.
What is it that sets amazing leaders apart from the rest? Termuende shared his philosophy on a 1-degree shift. If we take small steps at a time, rather than giant leaps, we can make a greater impact.
We wanted to be sure that dealers had every opportunity to visit one another and our staff during the Retreat. In between sessions, dealers had the chance to visit the in-person SAMM Center to collect signage, apparel or other marketing materials. They could also visit the Dealer Action Center where Jen Miller, Mackinze Gray or Tori Seward assisted them with any of the tools they need to help them grow. Promoboxx, Online Dealer Center, Master Dealer Program are just a few of the programs that were discussed.
Finally, dealers could choose between a tour of either the Stockyards or Easton facility to see the updates in technology that have been happening at the company.
We are proud of the dealers for their efforts and appreciate them for taking time to attend the Annual Dealer Retreat to learn, network and strengthen the business acumen. Want to join us in 2025? Start taking action to GROW your business today!

“We are extremely excited to have such savvy, eager young men join our team, where they will promote care that comes full circle to our dealers and customers,” said John Jeffrey, Director of National Sales.

Most recently he has been employed with Golden State Farm Credit. Bailey and his wife, Josie, own and operate Bailey Cattle Company, a diversified cow-calf operation specializing in raising show cattle through the use of advanced reproductive technologies like A.I. and E.T. When not working with cattle, he enjoys spending time with family and friends or golfing with his wife.
“I look forward to engaging with our customers in my territory and delivering what BioZyme has set out to do: provide care that comes full circle and bring success to other people’s lives,” Bailey said. He will work with dealers, customers and producers primarily in California, Arizona and Nevada, but may also travel into the Pacific Northwest.
Meet Slone Stultz
Stultz is a 2024 graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science and a concentration in business. He started his college career at Angelo State, where he played football, and he still enjoys sports today. Stultz grew up on his family’s multi-generation club lamb operation at Menard, Texas.
