BOWEN ISLAND YOUTH CENTRE Youth aged 12-18 are welcome to stay for an hour, the whole night or just use the place as somewhere to meet up with friends before going out. Everyone is free to come and go as they please. During drop-ins, there are always things going on such as street hockey, skate sessions, BBQs, movies, gaming, and lots of goofing around! Ultimately, you’re sure to find someone and something that fits with where you’re at. The centre is open every Thursday (4:00 - 7:00pm), Friday (4pm – 9:30pm) and Saturday (69:30pm) and all youth are welcome to hang out. We have a ping pong table, air-hockey, wifi, as well as a 60” flatscreen TV, which makes for great movie watching and multi-player gaming. There are concession snacks for sale. If youth have a band or would like to jam with other youth musicians, they can come down to use the youth centre space. We have guitars, amps, a drum kit, piano, organ and a PA. Saturdays are pizza night. We also offer out-trips, and open gym time during the nasty weather months. A fully functional mobile skateboard park in the car park of the youth centre was added in the summer of 2011. It is open the same hours as the centre. We host a SK8 Day once a month at Firehall #2, where youth can shred the gear on super smooth pavement. If youth turn up and want to make something new happen, there are always friendly, fun-loving Youth Workers on hand to help spontaneously facilitate activities and offer quality advice. Should any youth need to check in on a more personal or private level, they are welcome to talk with John Stiver, the Youth Services Coordinator (contact information on page 4). We are located in the lower level at 650 Carter Road.

This unique class focuses on deep stretches in tight areas of the body that are challenging for all of us to access. Movement is slow and intentional with support from a regulated breath. Deep Stretch Classes can reduce aches and pains, prevent and heal injuries, enhance athletic performance, increase flexibility and relieve tension. Postures are supported with props to encourage comfort and release, making the class ideal for athletes and still accessible to all levels, even the beginner.

2022 Barker, Michelle Fee: $189.00 12 Week Session Fri, Sept. 16 - Fri, December 16 NO CLASS: Nov. 11, November 25 1:30pm to 2:30pm 2151 Barker, Michelle Inspired by ballet, Pilates and Yoga, the barre is used as a prop for balance while focusing on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. Weights and other props are also used to enhance your workout.

Kyusho means vital points. In general it is a study of the nervous system and how to affect it. As a martial art, Kyusho Jitsu means using these points or places for self defense purposes. It can be quite effective and Kyusho is sometimes called one second fighting. Kyusho Jitsu is based on the Southern White Crane style that was created in China in the late 1600’s by a woman named Fang Chiang. She was a brilliant person and so is her art. The classes start out with warm up drills to practice joint locks, footwork, entry, and striking. We will move on to specific situations and how to apply and practice what you know to protect yourself. Kyusho Jitsu is appropriate for all fitness levels. Come out, get some exercise and learn some neat stuff.
