Introduce your child to Yoga with this Hatha based class. We will incorporate animals, music, story, and props into the classes to make a fun and interactive learning environment. Your child will learn how to use the breath to calm the mind, how to stretch and bend the body to help with spine alignment, flexibility, and body awareness, and how to relax using guided story techniques. This class is perfect for beginners or little yogis.

Whether your child is new to yoga or has some previous experience, this Hatha Yoga based series will build a strong foundation throughout the 8 weeks. She teaches yoga full-time at Nectar Yoga B&B on Bowen Island, at Bowen Island Yoga, at various studios in Vancouver, and at exotic yoga retreats around the globe. She is grateful to share her 8 years of teaching experience with the Bowen Island community and with the future leaders of Bowen Island through kids and teen yoga classes. This Teen Yoga series will focus on concentration, positive body awareness, breath, alignment, flexibility, uplifting positive messaging, regulation & understanding of energy, and fun. We will incorporate music, breath, movement, partner work, and challenges to form a supportive and interactive yoga environment.Your teen will learn how to use the breath to calm the mind, how to stretch and bend the body to help with spine alignment, flexibility, and body awareness, and how to relax using guided relaxation techniques. This class is a perfect for dancers, performance artists, sports enthusiasts, and to build concentration and focus.

This is an interactive social recreational program for people with developmental delays. This program offers participants a get together in a fun environment, with a daily activity. These activities may include movies, games, sports, cooking, and trip to the swimming pool.

Youth X Training (9-11 yrs)

This program is aimed at children 9 to 11 years old who want to be better athletes. Participants perform various exercises aimed at improving their fundamental movements and mechanics. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance, and fewer sports injuries for kids. The focus is on the ABCs of trainingAgility, balance, and coordination.

Fit and Female spin takes place indoors on spin bikes. There will be a different 1hr workout each week, specifically geared to improve fitness and introduce girls to a new form of exercise. Our instructor, Rachel, will guide participants through workout phases.

Instructor: Rachel Canning Rachel Canning is an avid road and track cyclist, and a member of the BC provincial racing team. She has raced all over North America, and Europe. She is a certified NCCP Cycling coach, and has a degree in Kinesiology.

Warm-up, steady up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, cool-downs, etc. Indoor cycling, or spin, is unique because participants control the resistance of their bikes, and make the pedaling as easy or difficult as they like. Because of this, it allows participants of all fitness levels to exercise together, and get a good workout. Instructor: Location:

Please Note: BICR has applied for a grant to subsidize and enhance this program. The success of the grant application will determine how many weeks the program will run, time, cost of the program, and any enhancements that might be added to it. At the very least, the program will run for one hour for five weeks as listed above. As soon as we hear about the grant more details will be available.

Boys Basketball/Volleyball (9-11 yrs)

Join roller hockey to learn the basic fundamentals of roller hockey. The sessions will focus on proper progression and proper technique of skating, passing, shooting and game basics. Players will learn new skills and drills along with building sportsmanship and teamwork. Come get your blood pumping, sweat going and have some fun.

Nothing but net...calling all boys ages 9-11 interested in getting a jump start on their basketball and volleyball skills. The sessions will focus on basic basketball and volleyball fundamentals through drills, activities and games. We will work at not only improving our skills in the game but also our fitness.

Instructor: Sarah Bristow Sarah has been skating since she was 2 years old and playing competitive hockey since she was 11. She has been successfully coaching Rollerhockey with Bowen Island Community Recreation since 2009 and focuses on proper skating technique as well as hockey skills. Sarah is also an elementary school teacher who enjoys bringing her love for hockey to young players and easily transfers her on ice programs to rollerblades in the gym. Sarah believes in the benefits sports can offer if facilitated in a positive, caring, inclusive and encouraging environment.

Zumba

Morning Spin

This fun class is sure to get your heart rate up with easy-to-follow moves and exciting music. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Come prepared to sweat! Running shoes are recommended but not required.

This class offers a great cardiovascular workout on the bike. Learn about bike set-up and riding technique while gradually increasing your fitness level. The workouts are designed to help you burn more calories, increase your strength and improve your overall fitness.

Adults (16+ yrs) Community Chi Kung

Somatic Patterning with Yoga Balls

A perfect blend of soft arm movements to open the heart and clear away stress. The basis of this Chi Kung is of the theory that when the arms are in movement the light of chi will then transform negativity. This system is in full support of heartfelt healing and living. This class is suitable for participants at all levels (1-3) who have previously taken Tai Chi or Chi Kung with Denise Richard. The class fee includes one semi-private session to be scheduled with the instructor.

Self massage using yoga balls. A deep exploration of holding patterns in the body. Somatic Patterning works with the body’s intelligence, helping it to reorganize and move toward more congruent functioning.
