Os artistas apresentados nesta seleção já se distinguiram no movimento de arte contemporânea da India, pela sua vigorOsa contribuição experimental. Seus trabalhos apresentam grande diversidade de técnicas. São também muito diferentes em seu modo de expressão e de conteúdo, esforçando-se, cada um a seu modo, para aceitar o desafio do pensamento contemporâneo. Embora absolutamente conscios das tendências globais atuais, muitos dêstes artistas estão passando por um processo de evolução estilística, sem perder a marca de identidade ~ o sentido do carater nativo. O mais notável é o fato de terem conseguido manter esta característica sem usar os idiomas tradicionais. Constitui isto, realmente, um tributo à sua ingenuidade - o único traço comum entre êstes artistas. Isto, entretanto não é resultado de esfôrço consciente mas, expressão expontânea de sua personalidade total. As tendências refletidas nêstes trabalhos mostram, realmente, as facetas significativas do movimento contemporâneo de arte da índia. R. Chatterji
The artists represented in this collection have already made their mark, in the contemporary art movement in India for their vigorous experimental approach. Their works display a wide diversity in the choice of media. They are equally varied in the manner of their expression and content, each striving to meet the challenge of contemporary thought in his own way. Even though fully aware oí today's global trends, most'of these artists ar". going through a process of stylistic evolution without losing the stamp of identity - a feel of indigenous character. What is alI the more noteworthy is that they have successfully retained this character without the use of traditional idioms. This, indeed, is a tribute to their in genuity - the only common feature of the artists. This, however, is not the result of a conscious effort, but a spontaneous expression of their total personality.
