“I believe that one of the most important things to learn in life is that you can make a difference in your community no matter who you are or where you live.” ~ Rosalynn Carter, Former First Lady I am grateful to have had the privilege to serve as President of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson in 2014. The Clubs hold a very special place in my heart for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, it is heartbreaking that there are children in my community who come home to an empty house with no parent available to provide a snack, a hug and help with homework. Or worse, there are children who get into trouble because they lack support, supervision or maybe their families can’t afford pricier after-school program alternatives. The Clubs offer all children the opportunity to participate in wholesome activities in a nurturing environment, with adult staff that care about their wellbeing and work with them to create a plan for a successful adulthood. Parents in some of Tucson’s most stressed neighborhoods rely on the Boys & Girls Clubs to be there when perhaps they cannot. Only due to the generosity of our donors, the Clubs provide membership fees of $10 for the school year and $20 for summer camp while our true cost is over $600 per child. There is no greater mission than to support successful outcomes for generations to come.

Annual Report 2014

I am pleased to report that the Clubs served over 5,000 Club Members in 2014, with thousands more benefitting from programs and activities conducted at our six facilities. We have forged partnerships with many other local organizations such as Girl Scouts, Tu Nidito, The Community Food Bank, United Way, The Drawing Studio, and The Udall Foundation Parks in Focus to provide programs in dozens of critical need areas, including STEM, the Arts, Physical Fitness, Academics, Technology and more. The ultimate goal of our programs is to ensure that Club Members graduate from high school on time with a plan for their future. I am excited for 2015, and all that the future brings for our wonderful organization and the children that we serve.
