Being Board President for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson was a true honor and privilege. Having served on the Board of Directors for the past 4 years, I can say firsthand that there is no other youth serving organization doing more for our community’s at-risk kids than the Clubs. In 2012, the Clubs had 7,739 registered members and served an additional 5,502 youth through community outreach programs. Thus, our wonderful and devoted youth development staff was able to positively impact the lives of over 13,000 kids with high quality programs and activities in the core areas of Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, Education & Career Development, The Arts and Sports, Fitness a& Recreation. Our facilities are located in six of Tucson’s most difficult neighborhoods where families need a safe and affordable place for their children to go after school, and thankfully, the local Boys & Girls Club is just that place. Due to the generosity of our donors and their connection to our mission, we were able to maintain the fees for school year and summer session memberships at only $5. The true annual cost per child to our organization is over $500, so essentially every member is afforded a scholarship to the Clubs.

Annual Report 2012
One of the highlights for me this year was witnessing our 2012 Mark Irvin Citywide Youth of the Year, Anthony Wimberly, progress as the State of Arizona Youth of the Year winner and represent Tucson in the regional competition in California. We are so very proud of Anthony and the other 11 Clubhouse Youth of the Year Winners. I am also thrilled that the Clubs were able to partner with many other organizations and corporations to bring wonderful programs and experiences to our kids: The Parks in Focus Program by the Udall Foundation; Basketball Leagues by Rollin’ For Ninos; Thanksgiving Dinners by Bank of the West; the Help a Kid Job Training Program by the Wolslager Foundation and the Davis Family Foundation; Holiday Shopping Spree by TEP; Mental Health First Aid by CPSA; Christmas Parties by Wee Work; Immunization Clinics by El Rio; Image Up Back to School Makeovers by Gadabout SalonSpas… just to name a few. I am in awe of all of those who have joined us to improve the lives of our youth. I now understand why 52% of alumni say that the Clubs saved their lives. Those are not just words. They are reality. I have personally seen the difference that a caring adult mentor has made on many of our members and the confidence instilled over time in a child who began their membership with low self-esteem. I am so very glad to have been a part in steering and directing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson in 2012 and look forward to many more years of service alongside of my dedicated and passionate fellow Board Members. Thank you!
