Bernay Fine Art is proud to present the fifth annual Lines and Colors exhibit. The show opens Saturday June 10th.
Diane Ayott, Susan Dory, Warren Isensee, Erik Johnson, Hideyo Okamura, Dana Piazza, and Audrey Stone are the seven very talented artists in this show.
Hideyo Okamura and Susan Dory draw upon the concept of infinity in their work. Okamura’s paintings are continuous, as in the sky and ocean, there is no starting or ending point. Dory’s pieces draw upon a concept of Indra’s net which is a metaphor in Eastern philosophy attempting to describe the universe and infinity. Dory asks us to “imagine an infinite net spanning the universe, at each intersection of the net, where the net is knotted together, there hangs a clear crystal jewel”.
Diane Ayott and Erick Johnson use rhythms, patterns, and repetition in their work. Ayott uses repetition in her work for the dream like, meditative experience it offers her and the viewer. This meditative process sets up spatial relationships as well as color ones. Johnson is engaged by the question, how color and shape create relatedness and difference, as well as emotion and mood.
Audrey Stone and Warren Isensee both create works with strict adherence to symmetry. Stone explores color, line and gradients across her canvases which are mesmerizing to look at and hold the viewer’s attention. Isensee is a Geometric Abstractionist who employs a precision, free-hand technique that leaves little to no trace of human interference. His impeccable technique captures the sharp line between fluidity and structure.
Lastly, Dana Piazza creates meticulous, abstract drawings depicting the illusion of depth, movement, and threedimensionality. Piazza uses paint, ink, and marker on Yupo paper, clayboard or canvas to create dramatic waves of lines that are a joy to look at.
Lines and Colors will be on exhibit through July 9th at 296 Main Street in Great Barrington, MA.
