"Taking Shape" – A New Exhibition at Bernay Fine Art in Great Barrington, Massachusetts Bernay Fine Art is proud to announce our new art exhibition, "Taking Shape," featuring abstract paintings and mixed media works by five contemporary artists—Karin Schaefer, Deborah Zlotsky, Conny Goelz Schmitt, Gina Occhiogrosso and Jason Middlebrook.

Schaefer and Zlotsky explore shape and color with subtle and unexpected shifts. With geometric forms, textured surfaces, and subtle changes in palette, Schaefer’s work builds atmospheric worlds to inhabit. The vibrant color and the mix of soft and hard edges in Zlotsky’s animated forms are both humorous and elegant. Occhiogrosso combines paint and dimensional passages onto sewn fabric surfaces to create dynamic shape and color relationships.

Goelz Schmitt’s unique wall pieces are made of vintage book covers. She explores deconstruction, reconstruction, and interactions between planes of color in her dimensional works. Finally, Middlebrook playfully fabricates three-dimensional wood constructions that pulse with pattern and movement, suggesting a conversation between art and nature.

"Taking Shape" offers visitors an opportunity to engage with contemporary abstraction in a meaningful and immersive way. Bernay Fine Art is excited to share this enriching experience with the Berkshire art community and beyond.

"Taking Shape" will be on display from October 28th to December 10th, 2023.
