Teen Recommended Reads
ANZAC Day
Topic: ANZAC Day ANZAC Day, commemorated on 25 April, marks the anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in 1915, where Australian and New Zealand troops faced immense adversity.
Despite the harsh conditions, they displayed extraordinary courage and resilience, shaping the ANZAC spirit of mateship and sacrifice. The campaign lasted eight months, resulting in heavy losses on both sides.
Beyond Gallipoli, ANZAC Day honours all Australian and New Zealand service members who have fought in conflicts worldwide.
The Dawn Service, a moving tradition, began in 1923 when Reverend Arthur White led the first ceremony in Albany, Western Australia. Today, Australians and New Zealanders gather at dawn to remember those who served and sacrificed.
As the sun rises and sets, we reflect on their bravery and commitment. Their legacy endures in the freedoms we cherish.
Lest we forget.
More information can be found at www.rslaustralia.org/anzac-day
Each month, Teen Recommended Reads explores a central theme or topic of discussion. Teens are encouraged to find an age-appropriate novel that shares this topic and discuss how this novel relates to the theme and general questions. In recognition of ANZAC Day, we are choosing from books that explore the experiences of Australian and New Zealand soldiers, nurses, and those affected by war for this month's Teen Recommended Reads.
Choose a book from this theme and let us know what you think.
