variations of the 1906 Indian were based on two attachments, a rear tandem seat and a chassis that replaced the front wheel of the motorcycle with a frame having two parallel, steerable front wheels. The tandem attachment was an extended crossbar fitted with fixed handlebars, a Brooks saddle, and a split brace that was bolted to the rear axle of the motorcycle. The tandem was offered as an accessory for $15.00 – a bargain considering that the Brooks spring suspension saddle sold for $8.00. The fore-frame attachment was more complex and its most touted feature was Hendee’s new independent helical suspension. “Each wheel of the tri-car proper being flexibly independent of the other, it is free to conform to any depression, elevation or other inequality of the road without regard to its mate, the finely tempered spring permitting each wheel to yield sufficiently to preserve the equilibrium or even balance of the whole machine.” For the sedan chair, the body was made of aluminum, upholstered in dark blue leather,

All this on a motorcycle with a singlecylinder 2¼ hp engine!

Some of the historical confusion regarding the year Hendee Mfg. Co. first introduced their V-twin results from the introduction of 1907 models in September of 1906. The standard camel back motorcycle with twist grips, Brooks saddle, and long handlebars was called the “Indian Roadster” and it was offered with either the improved 2¾ hp single cylinder- or a 3½ hp V-twin engine. According to the 1907 sales brochure, “This [Indian Twin-Cylinder Motocycle] model in practically all save the motor is a This appears to be a V-twin roadster since it has fenders, reproduction of the single-cylinder Indian. Setting The Record Straight Continued from Previous Page... The Hedstrom (Indian) engines had been built under license by the Aurora Automatic Machinery Company in Illinois since 1901, but the new 2¾ hp single- and twin-cylinder engines were manufactured at the new Indian factory on State

St. in Springfield, MA in 1906. My investigations suggest that a new series of serial numbers was begun at this time. For obvious reasons the higher powered V-twin became preferred by those fitting the $125 TriCar or Van attachments to their motorcycles. Most surviving antique photographs show these arrangements with V-twin engines. By 1908 the Tri-Car was produced in limited quantities and the twin-cylinder engine had been improved to deliver 5 hp, while that for the race version—which still had a torpedo gas tank--now produced 7 hp. The dusty blue motorcycle in the Wheels Through Time

Museum is a 1908 model, a 5 hp V-twin fitted with a tandem attachment and both a torpedo gas tank on the crossbar and a camel tank on the rear fender. I can only assume that this particular motorcycle was setup for a cross-country endurance contest, but its secret of its origins probably lies hidden in a long-forgotten newspaper story filed in the special archives of some local public library.

There can be little argument that the first U.S. production V-twin motorcycles were made by Glenn Curtis under the Hercules brand name, not by Hendee Mfg. Company. On Memorial Day in 1903 Glenn Curtiss showed up at the New York Motorcycle Club’s first hill climb event with his new V-twin motorcycle. He not only won the hill climb but later set a land speed record on this machine in Yonkers, NY. That same year, Thomas Baldwin ordered a Curtiss V-twin engine and installed it in a dirigible to make the first successful powered flight in 1904. Sold under the brand name Hercules, Curtiss was selling street versions—with an optional tandem seat—of his 5-hp V-twin by 1904 and the American Motorcycle Co. (MarshMetz) was offering a 4 hp, 1,000cc V-twin in 1906.

Manufactured in 1906, this V-twin engine does not bear the “T” prefix on the serial number as does the 1907 models.

A man walks into a bar and orders a shot of whiskey then looks into his pocket. He does this over and over again. Finally, the bartender asks why he orders a shot of whiskey and afterwards look into his pocket. The man responded, “I have a picture of my wife in there and when she starts to look good then i’ll go home.”

LOCAL COMPANY PARTNERS WITH SAFER ROADS OTTAWA TO TAKE ROAD SAFETY TO NEXT LEVEL

Kicking off National Road Safety Week, Medical Data Carrier will provide life saving information to first responders

Ottawa, ON [May 13, 2014] – In conjunction with National Road Safety Week, Medical Data Carrier is proud to announce a new partnership with Safer Roads Ottawa to enhance the safety of anyone wearing a helmet who may be involved in an accident.

Through our Online Events Calendars that are highly shareable, our mobile app that works on over 2,200 different phones, through our Facebook & Twitter Network and, right here in the newspaper.

Ottawa is Canada’s fourth largest city and one of the 10 most congested cities in the country. The number of cyclists and motorcyclists sharing the city’s streets and roadways is increasing dramatically as people turn to alternative modes of transportation. When cyclists are involved in an accident, what is done by those first on the scene can be a matter of life or death.

We are Canada’s ONLY Weekly Newspaper for the Canadian Riding Community& we’d love to promote your event!

“This partnership with Safer Roads Ottawa is a significant springboard for us right here in our hometown,” said Steve Reed, president of Medical Data Carrier (MDC). “We were able to develop this

product thanks, in part, to Invest Ottawa, the city’s economic development agency. It played a critical role in helping us with guidance and mentoring. This additional support from the city is icing on the cake.” Invest Ottawa president and CEO Bruce Lazenby said MDC is an excellent example of the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit behind hundreds of Ottawa-based companies.

“Invest Ottawa has an excellent record of spotting winning talent and of nurturing the creative genius of Ottawa’s innovators and entrepreneurs,” said Lazenby. “In the case of MDC, we have a local company that’s come up with a solution that could be a game-changer for cyclists, firefighters and anyone else who wears a helmet. It’s great to see the MDC product at work here at home, and in communities around the world.” Inside the carrier, a two-sided, waterproof paper

Ordering Your Glasses Online “Hi there. I bought these glasses and they don’t fit me. Can you please make them fit?” I hear this question so frequently- most folks recognize that a shop with the word ‘Optical’ means service with respects to eyewear. My response to that statement that I hear more and more often is, “Well have you returned to the dispensary you bought them from for them to address the issues you’re having?”. All too often, the reply is no, they bought them online so there’s nowhere to go, and the instructions for making them fit don’t work. I’ve been an optician for over 27 years. I love what I do- I help folks see their best, look their best, and have years of education, training,

Probably, over the last five years or thereabouts, the exact scenario I’ve recounted above has occurred a couple hundred times (and that’s just to ME- one optician of over a thousand here in BC), with varying final responses from myself, the licensed optician in the bricks-andmortar storefront that’s so incredibly convenient for folks to come, browse the selection, and buy their new eyewear from. But now I’m seeing an everincreasing number of pairs of eyewear that were purchased online coming through my doors for service that their virtual store simply cannot provide. Because someone like me cannot simply reach their hands through the computer monitor to provide what the client needs the most- hands on work by an optician. Frame selection can be a very simple matter. And it can be an incredibly complex exercise too. It can also fall somewhere in the middle between the two. A pair of glasses that one wears simply for correcting their distance vision, in a minor near or far-sighted correction, is always the easiest one to fit for frames and lens choices. But what if the frame you really really have your heart set on doesn’t fit your nose properly, or if your temple bredth is too great for it, or even the length of the temples is too short or too long? These issues are addressed by the optician when you’re choosing your eyewear in the dispensary- and it is recognised what fit components can be adjusted to the wearer’s anatomy, and which cannot, and the client is directed as necessary. A poor fitting plastic frame will give the wearer incessant misery by either digging into the nose if it’s the wrong shape, or sliding down to the nostril flare if its too wide. And there is nothing that can be done about these faults. Except to send your eyewear back to the online retailer and try again. And possibly

again. And again. And if you do get it right, you’ll still probably have to visit your local friendly optical shop to have the arms contoured to fit behind your ears. Try it yourself and you might not only end up with more problems but you could break them too. A metal frame with the adjustable nose pads is typically compatible with most facial features but again, in order to have the greatest level of comfort and correctness of vision, you still have to get them professionally fitted.

and attempt to adjust these glasses on you if its possible to do so. Perhaps the greatest number of dissatisfied online purchasers I encounter are those over 40, whose arms are no longer of adequate length to read clearly without assistance. By design, progressive lenses are the most complex dispensing because

Now in the event your prescription doesn’t fit into the low category, you’ve an entire different set of complications. Despite today’s lens product advances to render the lenses as thin and flat as possible, there’s several factors to consider, and some prescriptions and lens materials are better suited to certain frame designs than others. Let’s look at the far-sighted person’s needs. These lenses are thickest at the optical centre (the OC is positioned directly in front of the wearer’s pupil for prescription correctness). These folks want to have the least amount of spectacle magnification of their eyes as possible (think Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys). Yes I’ve see that result from online-purchased eyewear. That hideous mess was created by using a frame much too large for the prescription type, and likely a lens material not thin enough. Oh could us opticians have fixed that boy up! Also the design of some frames isn’t compatible with minimizing the apparent thickness and the lenses must be ground thicker to be mounted into the frame. A near-sighted person whose prescription is above -4.00 is the next worst incorrectly fitted individual. With today’s oversize frames being chosen for a certain demographic, the ‘hour-glass effect’ that occurs from too wide a lens laterally beside the eye is very unattractive. Couple these issues with a poorly fitting frame and the vision suffers as well as comfort and aesthetics. You just got what you paid $100 for, plus the charges your eyecare provider will levy to diagnose

National News / Events always be looking through the wrong power. This is why most progressive wearers are very sensitive to even slight mis-alignments of their frames and may a measurement of two millimeters in error of be prone to coming to the shop more frequently position in front of the wearer’s eyes can produce for tune ups. But even if you’re created gloriously such discomfort and failure to adapt the eyewear symmetrically, the frame position may be higher or is rendered useless. Also, the occupation, head lower than the next wearer’s would be, and you still positioning characteristics, stature, and posture won’t see properly to read without lifting your new of the wearer all must be accounted for in fitting eyewear up to get into the sweet spot. Or worse, progressives- there’s a multitude of brands available they sit very high and you’re constantly tipping and within each brand are different lens designs- an your head down to drive. Most annoying and totally office worker will invariably be fitted with a different unnecessary to have these problems: IF YOU design of progressive than a truck driver, because PURCHASE YOUR EYEWEAR FROM A BRICKS they have very obviously different visual needs. AND MORTAR OPTICAL DISPENSARY! So one lens does NOT fit all. But when ordering online, you don’t have this choice. Now add the There are some things that can be ordered online frame choice into the mix. Typically online eyewear for much much less than what an actual retail store is manufactured with only the interpupillary distance to ensure the horizontal position is correct. The vertical measurement is equally as important, but since one must have the frame on their face in order for the fitting height to be measured, this is not going to occur in the online eyewear. Everyone has different facial features- our noses are narrower, broader, crooked, flatter, higher, lower, than the next person and no frame fits identically on two people. So why, pray tell, would the position of the lenses be the same for everyone? You guessed it- they’re not intended to be. Take myself for instance. My right eye is three millimeters higher than my left (and two millimeters further from the centre of the bridge of my nose). I look pretty normal thoughuntil I point out this grave flaw to someone, they’d not have noticed. Matter of fact, until the day I had a colleague measure me up for my first pair of progressives, I had no clue I was so misshapen and neither did he, a fellow optician of many years. If I were to be fitted with progressive lenses at the ‘general height’ of two mm below the centre of the frame my left eye would enter the progressive corridor sooner than my right eye, and I’d never see clearly to read with my right eye because it would

can provide, without any of the negative potential that eyewear has. There is a reason that the online eyewear is inexpensive- you have not paid for the privilege of walking into a dispensary to speak to and be fitted by an optician. So once its determined that your eyewear isn’t going to meet your needs without some professional advice, and you come in to see one of us, expect to be paying for our services. Or just send those glasses back to where you bought them and start fresh, with a licensed optician’s skill and selection to give you what you really need. My life has on some levels, become overwhelming, between the situation in my family, the disgusting nuisance lawsuit from Sturgis North and a host of other set backs, I have never felt so vulnerable, so small, so insignificant. And yet... I know that it will all

From the Depths of File 13 - Re-Evaluation Time Continued From Previous Page... community, it fills me in a very special way. But there are huge costs to what I do. There is the toll it takes on my husband, the time away from him, my daughter and how one dimensional I have become. According to my daughter I don’t know how to talk about anything but my work and motorcycles. I can’t say she is wrong. This lawsuit that Sturgis North started against me chaps my arse for a lot of reasons. And it has made me look at the community I live and work in, in a far different way than I have until now.

All my riding friends and the people I serve in the riding community talk about freedom. Our country is broken - yes it is better than a lot of places, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Our “justice” system is a legal system - there is little about it that is just. Freedom, what is it, really? Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Speech - these are two “FREEDOMS” that are the foundation of our country and yet, here I am, having resources and time consumed fighting a lawsuit that is truly a nuisance suit. I have been fighting this suit for 5 months now. I can’t tell you the hours, the agony and the money it has already cost and how much more I and my family have to face. If my counter offer to settle, which should go out next week sometime after the draft letter is revised, is not accepted, then I am looking at $50,000 to see this thing through. The only thing to be gained by this case going all the way to court, is having my name cleared. There is nothing to countersue for and there are so many suits ahead of this one that even if I did countersue and win, it’s just throwing good money after bad. I wonder, is it worth it? I really do. I have mulled a number of ideas around in my head... Perhaps it is time to sell the business, maybe if I didn’t have to spend the many hours a day that it takes, I’d have the energy to fight this suit and raise the funds it’s going to take to prove that I have only shed light on the facts about the owners and management of Sturgis North and that everything that was found and shared came from public domain.

The Busted Knuckle Chronicles - Canada’s Rider Powered News www.bustedknucklenews.com

Hell, if I sold the business, I might be able to fund this fight on my own without being reduced to flogging tee shirts and asking for donations. But as my husband pointed out in one of our many long conversations about this business of mine, I love what I do, helping people, networking, supporting and eating, breathing this community. And if I didn’t do it, he knows I wouldn’t be happy. I have gotten a lot of support from the riding community. I have gotten almost enough to keep lawyers bills and research assistant bills fully paid for. I have gotten letters of support and lots of prayers being raised and I know they are working. I know that there are people who value the work that I do and as long as it has value, then I am happy and grateful to do it. It is after all because of my job, this business, that I got to be friends with a gal like Sue Woodhouse and her man Mark. It is because of this job that I am connected socially to over 13,000 people on Facebook, many that I have been blessed to ride with, hug, talk to... It’s hard to balance everything, my husband at times feels cheated by this community and rightly so. I can’t tell you the number of times I have been on the phone helping some event coordinator or mediating for different parties, reaching out on behalf of new riding clubs and making introductions while my husband has fallen asleep in front of the TV waiting for me to be ready to go out for supper or just spend some time with him. Then there are the hours and miles I get to put on my motorcycle.

Maintenance - AB Events I have been writing about some of the basics of maintenance for the last few articles, so here I’d like to round up some of the basic ideas in one place. Know the basics of your machine even if you are not going to actually do the work on your bike you should by David Pocock know what is “right” and what isn’t. Remember, you are the one riding your bike not the mechanic in the shop so even though the shop “might be” liable it is you who will be hurt. Tires. Have they been mounted correctly? Look for the information on the side of the tire, it will tell you such things as, tire rotation, is this a front tire or a rear tire, how much air pressure is the maximum, there is a “dot” painted, but many are now moulded in, this should line up with the stem, and don’t forget to check the date.

Balance. Many shops still use static balancing, while this is good, even better is speed balancing just the same as they do for car/truck tires. There are several options out there too, whether you go for “balance beads” or spoke weights, or the stick on, or the ones that clip to the rim this is your choice just make sure that everything is secured. Losing a weight while travelling can be more than just “inconvenient”, like on a car/truck, it will be dangerous as unbalanced tires on a bike cause instability.

distance out of your tires. Also, if you tend to be a bit “heavy” on the throttle and or the rear brake you might also find you will get less distance out of a rear tire. In short, how you ride as much as

Inflation. Look in the manual or on your bike, there will be a guide to tell you what the pressures should be for the type of riding you will be doing. Use this as a guide and you will preserve the tread from premature wear. A side note here, if you have saddle bags that are always full you will get less

Maintenance - AB Events Continued from Previous Page... where you ride, will dictate the amount of wear on your tires, “your milage may vary”. Improper inflation will also contribute to very poor handling if to little pressure and increased tire wear if too much pressure. Brakes. When was the last time the brakes were looked at, how much material is left are they operating smoothly and, on newer bikes is the proportioner system front to back doing its job and how do you know? We’ve only two tires in contact with the ground to stop us so brakes on a bike are very important. Remembering that the front brake is the one used the most not only the tire but the condition of the front brake are really important. Don’t skimp on the maintenance. Another important consideration is the brake fluid, when was it last changed and is it topped up properly. Most bike brake systems are designed to use DOT 3 or 4 make sure you use the proper fluid other wise harm to the components mainly the seals can occur. Lights. Bikes, need to be seen and lights are one of the main items to aid us here. Are yours all working?

Home • Auto • Motorcycle • Commercial

Changing light bulbs is not difficult as it usually only requires a screwdriver and, while learning, a little patience. Changing out lights to all LED is not a bad idea but sometimes may require that a few changes to the base system is required, if in doubt ask your favourite service centre. In any case do make sure all your lights work.

harmed by running on regular, the other way round is as bad, if not worse. Another item of note, be aware of how much ethyl-alcohol is in the fuel 10% is the MAXIMUM and even less is better. If you are in boating country “motorboat fuel” is great, it usually has less than 5%.

Oil.

What type you should be using, the “weight” and all the other specifications will be found in your owners manual. Even if you are not going to be doing the maintenance yourself you should know what your bike uses, “just in case” you need to add some on the road, not too likely with a newer bike but. Also when you get your bike back from being serviced it is not a bad idea to check the level. I know of enough folk who have gotten their bike back from service and the oil got “forgotten” to be more than noteworthy. Look on the invoice, did the shop note what type grade and amount of oil was used, did they change the filter? Fuel. Seems to be another item that many folk do not think about. Should your particular bike be running on Premium, mid-grade, or regular? Again, ask your service technician and if you are still not sure, the answer is in the owners manual. A bike designed to run on premium, will run on regular but will lack in performance and in fact some can be

Maintenance - AB Events Continued From Previous Page... Whether you are the one doing your maintenance, or you have a mechanic, as a rider knowing the basics of your particular bike can make the difference between being safe and having a bad day. If you are not going to do your own maintenance, for what ever reason, take the time to get to know your technician and for them to get to know you, the life you save may very well be your own. This being said, knowing the contents of at least the basic owners manual, will save a you and keep you on the road because you will have a better understanding of what is “right” and “not right”. Are all the parts on your bike properly attached, do all the lights work properly, does the horn work, does the clutch operate smoothly, do the brakes work properly and smoothly in both directions these are always questions for all vehicles but somewhat more so with bikes.

I’d hate to be a giraffe with a sore throat.

Thoughts To Ponder - AB Events

A thought to share..... A lecture in Stanford was on the mind-body connection--the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry)said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends. At first everyone laughed, but he was serious. Women connect with each other differently and provide support help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality “girlfriend time” helps us to create more serotonin-a neuro-transmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well being. Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. They rarely sit down with a buddy and talk about how they feel about certain things or how their personal lives are going. Jobs? Yes. Sports? Yes. Cars? Yes. Fishing, hunting, golf? Yes. But their feelings?-rarely. Women do it all of the time. We share from our souls with our sisters, and evidently that is very good for our health. He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym.

“exercising” we are doing something good for our bodies, but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged--not true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking! So every time you hangout to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health! We are indeed very, very lucky. Sooooo let’s toast to our friendship with our girlfriends. It’s very good for our health.” Submitted by Gary “Chinto” Adolph, Kamloops BC

The Busted Knuckle Chronicles - Canada’s Rider Powered News www.bustedknucklenews.com

My thought on “The Ice House and Gas Bar” video is that “it” is Something Else. And being very familiar with the location for the last 15-20 years since our local section of the CVMG, (Credit Valley) began to meet there at an early Sunday time, 8:30 am, to get together for an after-Breakfast ride, I think that the “Something Else” is Economic Reality on one side, mixed up with Limited Resources on the other with side elements of Inflated Egos and Poor Customer Consideration. The gas station used to be an independent discount station which got most of its business on the basis of price being lower than the larger, newer Brand Name station about 1 km up the road. Now it is a Brand name one and has no price differential attraction. No matter how many motorcycles they attract at a fill-up of maybe

20 L., the station cannot make the sales volume they can make with cars or (especially) light trucks. Every motorcycle, even though taking on fuel at the same moment, as it blocks and (in the station operator’s view) prevents a car or truck buying 3 to 5 times as much gas is costing the operator bigger sales. So that is the source of Economic discrimination. It is made worse if the motorcycles are parked on the gas station’s lot and are using the restaurant, even though technically not in the way of other’s visiting the gas station. And maybe the bike riders think the gas station and the Ice House (and the convenience store behind) are all part of the same friendly co-op effort. (Think “Corner Gas/ The Ruby Restaurant”?) The parking lot for the restaurant and the convenience store is very limited and has been a popular drop-in place for motorcyclists for many years, and the front corner of the gas station is not a car or truck parking area but will fit a few motorcycles int an area where they are unlikely to get bumped by cars or trucks. The whole area would not likely get redevelopment approval for what is there now, or expansion, because of inadequate parking. As to Inflated Egos, some

AB Events There is a need on both the customer and business side to work together on keeping “good relationships” going. This has not been happening at the Campbellville “Ice House” location off and on for some years now. Not with motorcyclists and the restaurant, but with the other adjacent tenants and, to some extent, the village. As to the “Blue Monday” reading the accident reports, I know it is depressing,

however, the overall trend in motorcycle accident and fatality numbers in Canada is downwards, even if some bureaucrats don’t seem to realize it. See pages 7 and 8, my Everybody’s Business column in the attached April, 2014 issue of the CVMG News. Sincerely, Allan Johnson

bad Uncle Monkey - SK Events Mental health is one of those things that until you have experienced and dealt with it it is difficult to understand. We have all rolled our ankle, wrapped our thumb with a hammer. We know how that feels, we can sympathize. We have all felt anxiety whether it was for an upcoming test or building up the courage to ask out that redhead at the end of the bar, but those are short fleeting moments, just as quickly forgotten once the moment has passed.

Mental Health

We think that telling someone to “just get over it” is an acceptable answer for someone who is crippled -bad Uncle Monkey by anxiety. We think that the depression that a friend is feeling is the same as when our faithful hunting dog Blue passed away. Its not.

So how are you feeling? I mean beside the usual aches and pains that your body seems to like to collect over the years. Mental health is something that we don’t seem to talk about. We don’t mind talking about our trick knee that can predict a rain storm miles before Mother Nature does but when it comes to how we are feeling and thinking we shut down.

But there are mental issues like depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, paranoia, and others. Our modern selves have outpaced our simple roots and our bodies haven’t caught up to us yet. It is hard to believe but it was just over a hundred years ago of man’s first power flight, a little over a hundred years ago we first started riding motorcycles. For many there simply is no just getting over depression or other illnesses. Sometimes help is finding camaraderie with others in support groups, others may need professional guidance and help, others may need medication and yes sometimes though rarely it may require supervision in a controlled environment. The truth is that there are times when no matter how many miles we ride we can’t get our minds clear, that there are times when we need and should reach out for help.

Maybe it is because as a society we don’t always get it right the first time. It wasn’t that long ago that we wrongly diagnosed “loose” women as mentally ill. Unruly children who defied their parents’ strict -bad Uncle Monkey rules met a similar fate. They were shunned, locked away to experience horrific treatments. They were the dirty little secrets that we didn’t want to talk about because there really wasn’t anything wrong with them.

The CMRC/Sasquatch Vintage Racing Series officially kicked off this past weekend at RJ’s Motosports Park in Barrie (Sunday, April 27th 2014)! What a great showing of vintage riders – the busy sign-in included 26 entries for both the Vintage/ Heritage classes! The Sasquatch crew showed up on Saturday night to some chilly conditions but come Sunday morning the clouds dispersed and the sun provided a spectacular day! Nothing like a beautiful spring day to kick off the racing season. The track conditions were awesome and for a number of vintage riders the first time to the RJ’s track —- they enjoyed the vintage friendliness of the track and put on their best show for their opening race. Continued from Previous Page... Motosports in Barrie….the sweeping corners, the motos with his usual flawless riding style on his ’74 Honda Elsinore 125. Paul Guilbert of Sasquatch Vintage Racing kept a competitive pace in both motos to pick up second place on his ’74 Suzuki. While Clint Saunders battled closely with Paul to capture the third place position on his ’74 Can Am TNT 175. Greg Collis and Brian Zuest had their challenges in the day with Brian off to a bad start in moto one and Greg Collis off the track in moto two… however the two managed a fourth and fifth position respectively. Dana Zuest joined her father on the track also riding a ’74 Honda Elsinore 125….A big kudos’ to Dana for dicing up with the old boys and keeping the spirit alive! The Heritage class continued with the intensity of Scott Smith of team Wolfe Worx and Randy Zuest battling for those first place race points! Scott Smith on his Yamaha YZ 250 claimed the first place overall narrowly beating second place Randy Zuest also on his Yamaha YZ 125. Derek Mols decided to make it a clean third on his Suzuki 250 or it could have been team Yamaha taking all top places as Adam Brown takes 4th place on his Yamaha YZ 250. A nice showing by Perry Godschalx on nicely restored ’82 Honda Elsinore taking the 5th position of the day!

rolling jumps and the long stretches of wide sandy lanes… each of the riders challenged the three laps of each moto. And after such a long cold winter, with what some said had no end in sight, everyone welcomed this start to the season. Underneath those helmuts, visors and goggles are the smiling faces of several vintage enthusiasts happy to ripping the track once again. The burning smell of 2 stroke, the laughter in the pits and the overall camaraderie of good and new friends….We bring you the 2014 Vintage Racing Season!! Many thanks to the CMRC Racing staff and RJ’s track crew for a smooth day of racing! Faith & Motorcycles - ON Events Timing is everything

Pastor Chuck

It is often said that in life, timing is everything. Like when you are shopping for your next bike and while you have in mind exactly what it is you are looking for but are striking out after months of looking, and then it happens.

You hear about the perfect scoot and with great anticipation rush out to have a look and check it out and there it is . . . a beauty, your dream machine. Or maybe you’ve been looking for that ‘great job’ and you just happen to get a call from a friend who tells you to hustle your butt down to his office or shop to meet the boss, who then hires you on the spot. Or how about the day your bike broke down on a remote highway just before dark and just ‘by chance’, a tow truck comes along to save the day. The scenarios and stories are endless for sure, but the fact is that in life, timing is everything. On a personal note, I’ll not forget the day a lady backed into me while sitting on bike in a gas station parking lot… my engine was off so that my pipes wouldn’t annoy other patrons as my friend was fueling his scoot. This lady decides to back her SUV out of the gas station onto the street, (yes in reverse) and I was unfortunately right in her path. Since I’d cut my power I couldn’t accelerate ahead and into a safety area and I was relegated to use the lungs the good Lord gave me as I shouted

for her to stop. And just like in a cartoon she caught me out of the corner of her eye at the last minute and hit the brakes, literally shaking and skidding her SUV up to the right rear side of my Road King, lodging against the back wheel, while I tried desperately not to have the bike fall to my left on my unprotected leg. It took a good deal of screaming and pleading to convince the lady that she had hit me and that her SUV was lodged up against my bike, and only when other patrons rushed over to get her attention did she actually move her vehicle ahead. And believe it or not, she continued to deny hitting me and didn’t want to exchange driver licenses or provide contact information to for ICBC, so as she drove away I had the presence of mind to snap a couple of photos on my cell phone, which in the end, was what I had needed to back up my story, and ultimately receive a generous settlement from ICBC.

mystery (a secret truth, an event decreed by the hidden purpose or counsel of God). We shall not all fall asleep [in death], but we shall all be changed (transformed) Ride Safe, Ride True Pastor Chuck

My neck and shoulders will never be the same, but at the end of the day I ride an amazing 2012 Street Glide, thanks to the ‘timing’ of clicking those photos in the short window of opportunity I had. Like I say, timing is everything. And concerning our spiritual journey, timing is also everything. Discovering Jesus, the son of God the creator of all that is, is crucial before we leave this earthly body and move onto the next life. For those who accept Jesus Christ into their lives, they will live forever in eternity, so timing is absolutely everything. Check out this verse found in our “Owner’s manual for life”. 1 Corinthians 15:1 Take notice! I tell you a

still in the works but am attaching what we have for the first few days. There will be live music playing off and on throughout the event as well.

We have at last count well over 2,500 planning on showing up for this and I’m sure that the numbers will be higher than that as we have veterans and veteran bike clubs coming from as far away as BC and NFLD as well as the US.

David MacLeod, Kenneth H Young, Mike Blais, Pat Stogran, Sean Bruyea, Linda Magill, Eric Rebiere (RCMP), Dee Rajska?

We just don’t have any way of keeping count anymore.

As well as Don Sorochan lead lawyer from the Equitas law suit, along with Mark Campbell.

We have the backing of at least half a dozen local legions who are putting on busses as well as some of the Legion Riders will be showing up. We received the following info from one of the organizers from Rolling Thunder in the States. We will not have any idea of the number of riders who may show up from the US as that would be a very hard call but even if 1% were to show up it will be enough to overwhelm the city of Ottawa. UPDATE ON ROLLING THUNDER: From Jo Gunney - here is the response...FYI. Jo! For the past four years they have included a show n’ shine to raise funds for the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Association. “This year we couldn’t do the show n’ shine and it will be our last awareness ride,” explains Crooks, acting president. “We have gotten so much support over the last few years from people helping out, but we have less and less people joining clubs, especially younger people, and when the older people do all the work they get tired and it takes the fun out of it.” Brown says this is the third time the club has seen such a low number of members, and it’s to the point where they feel they can’t continue. “Last year we had the best ride ever and that was all due to the co-operation we had from the police, the RCMP. We never had to put our feet on the ground once. They did a fine job,” recalls Crooks. This is why, he says, it is so sad that this will be the last one. “Really, it’s a lack of support from members and other bike owners.” Brown adds, “We would have bike owners walk into the show ‘n shine and refuse to pay the $5 entry fee.

All of the food for the barbecue, which feeds 300-400 people, is donated through Sobeys. “The whole point is that May is the time of year when the bikes are back on the roads. Share the road. Last year in Nova Scotia there were 11 bikers killed; we try to be as visible as possible. It used to be a loud bike saved lives, now they are florescent colours and bikers are wearing florescent colours so they can be seen,” explains Crooks. “We would just like to thank everyone who supported us over the years; we really appreciate it.”
