TURNING CREATIVES INTO MILLIONAIRES

Becca Luna’s reputation as a web designer is impeccable in

the marketplace. Not only is she a top performer in her field, she also transparently leads other entrepreneurs down the path to building their own thriving web design businesses. She offers her expertise in an organic, beautiful way and is uncommonly generous with the amount of information she shares with her students. Her courses are value-packed and offer turn-key templates, breaking the mould within the world of online classes. True to her authentic teaching and social media style, she recently had a whole-hearted and unreserved conversation with Jen about her beginnings, starting a business, social media trolls, and the gorgeous freedoms of entrepreneurship.

So many business owners lack belief in themselves and outsource information and inner wisdom. Does your strength stem from being raised to tap into self-belief and your inner truth?

I was born on a hippie commune in Northern California and grew up with the belief that society does not know what is best for me. I think that really shaped me to be the intuitive leader of my own life, and I am so grateful for that fundamental belief system that was ingrained in me.

People are always surprised that I forged my own path and dropped out of high school during my junior year. I later attended two terms in community college and then dropped out the day before my final exam in Public Speaking Class because I was so nervous. I had a negative, toxic chip on my shoulder until I discovered the online world. Becoming a virtual assistant allowed me to learn web design and it really set me on my career ’ s trajectory. It expanded my awareness of what was possible and completely changed my entire life I remember being so inspired watching online business owners talk about the money they were making and traveling to Bali. In the beginning that lifestyle felt far away, but I also had the knowing deep in my heart that I could do it. It has been a long journey, and I have taken it day by day.

I did not always see the light at the end of the tunnel I really took it inch by inch, and the light grew brighter.

When I took on that first web design client and charged $1,200, I remember thinking, “I'm rich!” At that time, I had anxiety and needed somatic therapy. When things started to click, not only did web design feel like a career path that I could take, it also felt like an actual life change. I could release the anxiety and began to feel better and better in my body. Obviously, there are times where I am anxious, but for the most part I came out of a dark hole that I did not know I could crawl out of. My first client paid in full. Then I delivered the website and received praise. The client was genuinely excited to pay me. I grew up thinking that money exchange was so hard This re-shifted my dynamic with money, which I think is so beautiful.

How did you progress into creating courses with so much value? Your students can purchase and turnkey their own business Was it a progression or did you go all in?

When I started as a web designer, I had no idea that I would become an educator. It was not on my radar. It really fell in my lap from people watching me grow my web design business and begging, quite literally, for the resources. In 2021 I created my first course, Wealthy Web Designer I included every single template and resource I used in my own business. I really wanted to provide done-for-you templates and resources that I knew worked for me. I feel like within the world of online courses there is so much empty talk. I do not care if someone has my applications and my DM scripts. If it can serve them and help them make money, I want them to have that! I really have tried to pack every single course with tried-and-true resources.

One comment I see often, specifically on the topic of online courses is, “these are such a scam. You can get all the knowledge on YouTube.” Clearly, they are saying that from evidence of their past. I always chuckle to myself when I read these comments. On TikTok, I get a load of hate. I accept it at this point.

As a business mentor I always say, ‘More is More’. When you are asking for more, you are asking for more of everything You cannot just pick and choose When you are asking for more wealth, visibility, and success you are also being entrusted to be able to handle more chiseling to become the leader you need to be for that next evolution I do not want to use the word hate; I am sure they do not hate you Sometimes people just want to be right, and they do not want you to be right No matter what you do, there is no win The only way to win is to not participate How do you deal with that kind of backlash?

Each day I have a new strategy. I am learning as I go, but having core belief in myself and feedback from students is the most important thing. Sometimes, when I have 15 negative comments, my husband will tell me to look at all of my positive testimonials

or go on Instagram and talk to a student that I have helped to change their entire life. Those reminders are so worth it. At the end of the day, I hope the haters can take my course, change their life, and find happiness. I am not going to beat around the bush, there are times this is brutal. If you have massive impact, you are going to have massive hate I have massive hate, but I also have massive love. I have recognition and I get validated. It is a balance. You are not going to be loved by everyone. Just recognizing and realizing that allowed me to start playing at a bigger field. As soon as you get hate, you have made it.

Is it too late for someone to take your course and become an epic web designer? Is the market too saturated?

The short answer is no, never How many times do you go on a local website, and think, this website is trash, or this website was built in 1990 and needs updating. Until there are no more ugly websites online, it is never too late. Businesses are being born every single day and every single one needs a website

One of the biggest methodologies I teach is how to build a website in one day.

I have been able to figure out how to package a website and deliver it in the same day I can teach someone how to do the same for their clients. Exactly as you say, business is always evolving. If we get to a point where everyone has a website, with growth they will need a rebrand As businesses scale you can be there to provide this service.

What would you say to someone who believes they can build a business without a website?

Social media is not a sustainable business model that can thrive through ups and downs. A sustainable business model is about building systems and processes in your business. If these business owners do not have a website, they likely have other issues as well that could also crash and burn. If they are just leveraging Facebook or Instagram and still selling it is because they are riding a wave of popularity. My assumption is that a majority of their clientele will never be able to get the same results that they have It is an old trend I think people are becoming more and more aware of. The high-ticket coaching world is a subject that we could have a whole other conversation about. I would say that choosing to have a website depends on how sustainably you want to build your business What are you trying to build? Is it for the longevity of things? How do you want to grow and expand?

How do these new entrepreneurs entering the web design field stand out amongst the noise? What would be your recommendations for them?

Be boldly yourself. I could scream that from the rooftops. Being bold and authentic is how I have achieved success, and that is exactly how my most successful students are doing it as well. When you go to their Instagram page, you know exactly who they are. It feels like you just walked into their house and are sitting on the couch with them. You know how they believe and how they stand. They feel like a friend of yours now.

With time being the most precious commodity, do you have a big team?

I have a team and we have ebbed and flowed. At one point, I had a very large team but learned as a leader I am better having a smaller, nimble, tight-knit group. I remember doing everything. I jumped in and had to learn how to become a social media manager, do taxes, and create client experiences. I held so many hats and could not wait until I had the freedom to hire someone to alleviate it. Not everything is my zone of genius. I really believe in placing people in their zone of genius and allowing them to thrive so you can remain in your zone of genius Having a team has helped me remain doing what I love and what I am good at. It frees up my time for implementing strategy, creating content, connecting, marketing, and high-level thinking around how we can expand what we are doing. I am incredibly grateful.

Did you hire before you felt ready? Did you wait for success to come and then hire a team, or did you hire a team and then experience success based on those investments and those partnerships?

I would say that I have always leaned more on myself, riding the wave and learning everything I can. I know how to do most things in my business I always felt it was important that I did not just hire people to do things and never learn it myself. Things do

happen, and I wanted to be able to make sure that I could step in and run everything. I leaned more on waiting to hire team members until I needed someone That has always been my angle Now I am learning how to fill roles before I need them. You come to a place of it switching, but it is powerful your first couple of years to grow as much as you can solo or with the smallest team possible. Once you reach a place where you have financial means and resources, you can be a little bit more strategic in timing.

What is next for Becca Luna?

I feel like I am in an era of finding myself as a leader. I became a web designer because it landed in my lap, and it gave me permission to segue into what I really wanted. Then the education courses fell in my lap I have ridden the wave This house has really opened my eyes I am going to be here for a while I had a lot of childhood wounds open up while moving into this house. My parents got divorced when I was four, and up until this point, I have moved every one to two years. Moving into this home with my husband, I can imagine walking my kids to the school bus and really growing old here. I am not in a fleeting moment of being young and renting in L.A. I am building my life and that has put a lot of things into perspective. I have tapped into what I want long term.

I would say I am ready for more. In the next year, I would love to start helping people achieve higherlevel accomplishments. One of my core values and beliefs is not talking about money unless it is in direct correlation to what I am selling For example, I never share the amount of my course sales because it is irrelevant to becoming a web designer. People sharing how much they make with a link attached to what they are selling is a huge trend in the online space. If I talk about numbers, it is relevant to making money from web design. Over the years, I have grown a company that has hit insane numbers, but you would not really know that unless you guessed from my house. I am ready to expand the playing field and help high-level entrepreneurs create companies that are sustainable and serve the amount of volume I have been able to serve.

One of the greatest ways to love the journey is to love every

version of yourself along the way. This is the seed for Becoming Iconic.

I decided a long time ago that I would celebrate the versions of myself that I have been to become who I am today. This translated into the adoration of who I am today knowing that it will lead into who I am tomorrow. It stopped the urgency and started the gratitude. It deepened my commitment to appreciating the now so that I will not bypass this chapter of my life in pursuit of the next.

I have been a lonely young girl who was rewarded for being unnoticeable. This became one of my biggest overcomings in my life. It also gave me an incredible spiritual connection to myself, God and music because I was alone so much. It sparked artistry and contemplation.

I have been a popular and rebellious young adult who also felt uncomfortable in her own skin. I was exposed to the world of underground parties, house music and fashion. I became obsessed with style, expression and beauty that led me to go to school for it This was the seed for my magazine and also the spark for my deepest desire to help women be more confident in themselves.

I have been a young mom who left her thriving corporate career, moved away from her family and friends and lost herself in her role as a stay at home mom. I became an exceptional mom and learned that I don’t need to sacrifice motherhood for my becoming through entrepreneurship The roots to what I teach today about eradicating sacrificial living and also the start to a life I was able to create that has been so generously blessed.

Being able to witness all these versions and identities as perfect and beautiful for what they were has weaved this gorgeous tapestry of my life together so far. It has helped me see that who I am today may change tomorrow so I desire to enjoy this version fully for the experience, thrill, lessons and excitement that it will cultivate. I want to allow myself the freedom to be the fullest expression in the now so I build as many memory making moments as possible.

Imagine if we did more of this for ourselves? The permission and the celebration of this version, within this chapter of our lives and focused on making it as breathtaking as possible? How do you want to remember this version of yourself? You begin to realize that one day you will look back and remember this chapter and you will want to remember it with memories, pride and love. It makes today count and it makes you savour the moment as an integral piece of mosaic within the masterpiece you are creating. You realize it has never been about changing who you are but stacking these versions upon one another to become the fullest expression of yourself. It avoids making a chapter wrong and you begin to see the beauty and relevance of it as a portion of the whole

I can honestly say I love every version of who I have been.

Some were easier than others. Some have stains of grief and pain but those also improved the overall experience of the next chapter. It has all had beauty and shadow like any great love story or movie. It’s the fullness of the story or chapter that keeps you wanting more. I live my life like the greatest Netflix series of our generation. It keeps me so highly intentional and aware I have so much more to say but will leave this here for now so you can contemplate.

Maybe admitting that even though you ’ re the expert at what you offer, you don’t have all the answers, is a hit to the ego?

YOU ARE YOUR OWN SECRET TO Success as a Brick and Mortar Entrepreneur

I believe this to be true: your thoughts become your reality. Take a recent hotel stay I had: I was on vacation with my family, and I experienced, shall we say, less-than-ideal customer service. When we left, I felt pretty disappointed and deflated. But instead of reaching for my phone to write a negative online review, which would only spread my negative thoughts out even further, I looked inward and realized:

I was not behaving or thinking like someone who values impeccable customer service.

I was not clear with my expectations to my travel agent because I was afraid to come across as demanding. I needed to let go of worrying about others’ perceptions when voicing my needs and wants

These thoughts empowered me to move away from a place of victimhood, and into an empowered choice. I contacted the hotel directly. I clearly, calmly communicated my concerns. As a result, I was compensated for two out of three nights. Taking charge and shifting your mindset can make all the difference.

It can be truly exhausting, taking everything out of you. It’s easy to fall into a passive stance where things are happening to you. But here’s the secret: whenever you find yourself with negative thoughts, rather than reacting to the emotion, you can simply notice what’s happening. From that viewpoint of observing yourself, you have the freedom to make a choice on how to act. You are not your emotions You have the power to observe who you are being in the moment and then guide yourself toward success.

As a brick and mortar entrepreneur, you have unique challenges, and it all starts with who you surround yourself with. Once you have a strong team that is going in the same direction as you are, with the same intentions to match yours, you can focus on how you ’ re presenting to the world You will attract the business you want You can take charge of your life, take charge of the challenges you face. And finally, when you hit a roadblock because it’s inevitable that you will you find opportunities to grow from them.

To build a strong team, you must build a culture that reflects your vision. This starts with actual written agreements that define that vision. Don’t just rely on company policies––you want to provide a “North Star” for everyone to reach toward. Without agreements, we are prone to make assumptions, and that’s where the drama begins. You must start with everyone literally on the same page. As a brick and mortar business owner, it was essential for me to have a solid team I could count on through a divorce, a new marriage, and three (!) pregnancies. Business thrives only when you have a strong team.

In fact, high performers can end up eroding the foundation of your culture. If you find yourself with a high performer who is not acting in line with your vision, you may worry that you can’t find anyone better. That you don’t know anyone else who can do their job You keep them around longer than you should. Meanwhile, they are wreaking havoc on your culture and ultimately, bottom line.

With situations like a difficult team member or unexpected challenges, let these be clues from the universe for you to do some deep introspection. I love the Universal Law of Correspondence, which states, “As above, so below; as within, so without.” This means that whatever is happening in your mind will be reflected in the world around you Rather than lay down and play the victim, you must take responsibility for your own power in every situation. Find your choice.

Let’s go back to that difficult team member. Ask yourself:

Who am I being that is causing my reality to manifest in this way?

Perhaps you ’ re feeling scared or angry about the situation. Your fears and anger will become present in your reality.

You might be afraid if you let them go, you’ll be stuck with too much work. Or you might believe they know more than you do about your business. What beliefs am I holding that contribute to this?

What do I need to release that is reflected in my life this way?

You must release that self-doubt. Those fears. The anger. They are not serving you.

How am I treating myself internally, and how is it mirrored externally?

By showing up for yourself, believing in your integrity, you’ll gain clarity on how to show up for your business. The next steps will become crystal clear.

Reflecting on my journey as a brick and mortar business owner over the last 16 years, I've learned that my number one tool during tough times is taking time to revisit my past. Only then can I confront those pesky limiting beliefs and heal from the thoughts that hold me back.

Delving into your past isn't always easy. It can be uncomfortable. Inconvenient. And yes, even costly. But it’s also incredibly powerful. I’m not the person I was 25 years ago, not even last year I don’t have to relive the serious troubles of my past by recreating them in my present. Sure, cleaning up your past is tough, but every time you do, I promise you that it gets easier. It becomes second-nature, a trusted tool in your back pocket It’s also incredibly worth it It’s through this growth that you’ll find new heights to climb.

You may have heard the phrase: “You cannot solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it.” We are the source and creators of our lives You have the power, even when things seem to happen to you rather than for you, to shift your thoughts toward growth and success.

I fully believe in the power of always growing and learning And the only way to do that is through failure. It’s when you avoid failure at all costs that you deprive yourself of invaluable lessons and experiences gained from the entrepreneurial journey.

I’ve led my business through some of the toughest years, from covid lockdowns to the 2008 crash to the ever-changing insurance landscape. My name is Becky, and I started my flower and events

studio, Blush and Bloom, in my tiny garage 13 years ago. This small beginning grew into a successful business, driven by my passion for floristry and event design.

When I moved to Toronto, I was fortunate to have already spent a decade in the floral industry. This experience, along with the connections I made in my new city, set the stage for my entrepreneurial venture. During my first three years in Toronto, I worked for another florist, which allowed me to build a network of valuable contacts and develop strong relationships with my wedding industry peers These connections were crucial when I decided to start my own business.

The early years of Blush and Bloom were both exciting and challenging. The first three years involved significant personal sacrifice as I chose not to pay myself, instead reinvesting every dollar back into the business. I focused on advertising, participating in wedding shows, and taking advantage of promotional opportunities. Styled shoot collaborations for publications became a key strategy to get our brand recognized These efforts were essential in establishing Blush and Bloom's reputation, helping us secure a solid client base year after year.

Our first summer was a great success, and it quickly became clear that I needed a proper studio space to accommodate the growing demand.

With each passing year, Blush and Bloom expanded, and so did my team Our scale of business grew, as did our client roster In 2016, I launched my passion project and sister brand, Bloom School (www.bloomschool.ca), an education platform for budding florists and hobbyists. Managing two growing businesses was no easy task, and for years I balanced teaching in the off-season with weddings and events during peak season.

In 2018, during the height of my entrepreneurial

journey, we welcomed a new addition to the BB family – my daughter Navigating motherhood alongside my demanding career was a new challenge. I took about two months off after her birth, but my incredible team managed one of our busiest wedding seasons while I was in a sleepless newborn haze. Gradually, I began returning to work with my baby in tow, and eventually, after about three and a half months, I had a nanny to help me transition back into working full-time. Pumping during staff meetings and between client consultations became my new normal. Looking back, I sometimes wonder how I managed it all, but it was far from easy.

As Blush and Bloom continued to grow, we took on larger events with bigger budgets and more complex logistics. This brought us closer to my vision for the brand. Our team expanded, and with it, our roles and responsibilities Learning to lead and step into the position of operating the business was a significant milestone for me.

After over twenty years in the industry, thirteen of which I have served as the Creative Director and owner of Blush and Bloom, I am pleased to say that we have reached a place where we operate solely on word of mouth and referrals. Our specialty is bespoke florals for fun and edgy couples, and we pride ourselves on providing incredible service and even more incredible flowers and design.

Reflecting on our journey, I am proud of

the creative evolution and resilience that have defined Blush and Bloom. We have navigated the challenges of scaling a business, balancing personal and professional responsibilities, and maintaining our commitment to excellence. Our success is a testament to the dedication of our team and the trust our clients place in us.

Looking ahead to 2024 and 2025,

we are implementing new requirements for our wedding clients. To ensure the best possible experience, we now require clients to enlist in a full-service planning agency. This partnership will help better guide the logistics of the event and enable us to focus on delivering our signature floral designs. Your artistry will be vague and desperate if you don’t allow the space, solitude and curiosity to take precedence over the obsession of a result. Unnecessary urgency and a subconscious mind that feels the race of time, doesn’t give you the opportunity to fully express your rare voice and genius to become the masterpiece it is for the world.

Paying attention to honing your skills, knowledge and execution are the ingredients to legacy. Understanding that your biggest responsibility as an entrepreneur is becoming the most powerful and potent version of yourself over racing time and other brands or businesses within the marketplace

When you pressure your results, you lose sight of the gorgeous moments that stack up to make a breathtaking story, vision and impact. Don’t stifle your creativity by white knuckling your journey.

My greatest reward and competitive advantage is the consistent innovation and creation I continue to ignite. I don’t react to trends. I set them. That doesn’t come from a frantic attempt to keep up with someone else. That stems from a deep trust that if I can see it, it’s inevitable and my only role is to continue to recognize how to make it into a masterpiece. Leadership can be a lonely path. There will be many times that you will feel separate from others. Similarly to a poet, artist or writer, our solitary nature can be isolating and misunderstood. As our success multiplies, it can sometimes feel the more distant the world becomes.

We all crave meaningful, trustworthy and safe relationships. You will absolutely have them especially as you develop in your personal growth. You will find like minded people and those who understand your lived experience. However, just like success, it’s not going to be the majority.

People will want to make your success wrong or justify it with excuses or projection Your choice is how you allow that to affect you.

I remember when I got to the room where the one percent play. I deeply missed and mourned the generosity of people’s gratitude and acknowledgement. Not because I needed validation but because any human being appreciates being witnessed and celebrated by others It was as though people just assumed you must know so they stop telling you. My medicine became the act of giving as much love, gratitude and celebration I possibly could to others that ended up filling the void I felt. Their reaction, joy and pleasure of my love rebounded into my spirit and heart.

To be a legendary leader, is to realize that you ' re going to live a sometimes misunderstood and triggering life You are the example and evidence to others. Some will be inspired and thank you for changing their lives while some won’t be in the posture to realize that you were mirroring to them what was possible which creates an agitation within them.

Remember the one percent is a sliver of the population. You will help so many people to build your success but not many are at the summit to understand what was required for you to get there

Every entrepreneur will face moments where everything seems lost these are the moments that test and reveal your true passion and resilience. Every great love story is riddled with parts of overcoming, doubt, deep love, connection and perseverance.

The power and trust you will build for yourself through seeing the failed launches, strategies, business partnerships and opportunities as a stepping stone to your vision, will be unshakable. Staying in the narrative of failure will torture and rob you of the redemption celebration that comes in the other side.

There have been plenty of times where I have been crawling, bruised and battered by entrepreneurship but I am proud to say that I never left the arena. To become iconic is to do what most are unwilling to do. You are either blaming, justifying or building your life. Crawl if you have to but don’t quit and never allow yourself to accept that as the answer. If you want to quit, make sure it’s when you ’ re thriving. Then it’s an empowered decision. You have one chance to make a first impression and your reputation is everything in life and business. Learn the gestures, acts, behavior and cultural differences that reflect consideration, thoughtfulness and poise.

Many of my clients have come back to work with

me again after completing a contract. I firmly believe it is because of the experience they had before, during and after working with me.

I genuinely care for those I partner with. I know their families, their journeys, and their deepest desires. This level of trust is a responsibility and privilege I take very seriously. I do not stop caring and being invested in them just because they are no longer paying me. I may have less interaction but our relationship will never cease to exist I believe you can have lifelong clients, so I make it a priority to nurture my relationships. Clients circle back when they have a gorgeous experience from beginning to end.

Knowing the etiquette around closing relationships with paying clients is essential to the future of your business. It is also imperative to your reputation. The actions taken at the end of a business relationship are differentiators that reveal an entrepreneur’s sincerity and level of authenticity. I am certain you would have bigger results, deeper conversations and longer relationships if you prioritized “endings” as highly as you prioritize beginnings. Your reputation will be felt and heard. Your business will become more stable because you have proven through your integrity that you can be entrusted with more

My mentor continued to engage and ask how I was doing consistently after I had completed a contract with her I was no longer paying her, yet she still cared about me and nurtured our relationship. It felt authentic and meant the world to me. It showed me a rare example of how I want to show up in leadership.

Unfortunately, most entrepreneurs check out as they complete a contract. They project negative emotions of lack and desperation, possibly because they were dependent upon us for their income Suddenly they stop prioritizing their customer’s experience. They stop engaging and no longer show up in high-frequency energy for calls. Careless mistakes happen and communication gets sloppy. Interactions feel so conditional. These actions permanently taint the relationship Treating a client like they were simply a transaction makes a person wonder, was any of the attention genuine or was it a tactic to manipulate us into investing.

Too many people are feeling the effects of the next mentality The next mentality is perpetuated by hustle culture. Some entrepreneurs become so fixated on getting their next new client, they forget about the clients they already have. Once a client signs, they quickly move on to find another client. The customer experience was poor at best.

It is important to remember that client referrals are gold. If someone leaves feeling like your services were the best investment they have ever made, they will recommend you to other professionals.

Most clients will expect your attention and the quality of your services to dissipate towards the end because sadly that is the norm. What if you surprise them and leave them wanting more? Do this by amplifying their experience and giving even more of your energy towards the end This could quite possibly change their minds and encourage them to stay!

Set reminders in your phone for birthdays and special occasions. Stay in touch by remembering these moments This thoughtfulness leaves a lasting impression, and it truly matters. You stay in their mind while also ensuring your previous clients still feel seen and cared for.
