Ali Budd

Ali Budd, internationally renowned interior designer and star of the television series House of Ali, shared a behind-the-scenes look into the evolution of her business empire. In this interview, Ali and Jen discuss building a dynamic team, the human element of art, design inspiration, originality, and realistic expectations around motherhood.

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED INTERIOR DESIGNER AND STAR OF THE TELEVISION SERIES HOUSE OF ALI, SHARED A BEHINDTHE-SCENES LOOK INTO THE EVOLUTION OF HER BUSINESS EMPIRE.

Jen: In my coaching business , I have quite a few interior designers that I support in cultivating their branding, marketing presence, authority, and customer experience. Many of these designers did not grow up thinking they wanted to be interior designers. They pivoted their way into that world , but from what I understand you were raised by entrepreneurs and had a passion for interior design as a young girl.

Ali: That is true. It is so funny to reflect on now. I remember as a kid my house was always a mess. My mom let me build apartment buildings and design living rooms. She was fine with it. My father was an artist, and I had a creative, fun childhood My nine-year-old son is a beautiful artist, and there is paint everywhere I have tried to designate a specific area for it, but at some point, you have to live in your house and just embrace it

Jen: Your sense of design is not forced or pressured, it is an innate gift. Did you always know you were going to go into interior design? Was there a career pivot or was interior design always the north star?

Ali: Design was the north star I was lucky enough to have a close family friend who is an OG designer When I was a teenager, she would take me with her to work and we would talk about design I knew I wanted to do that, but twenty years ago design was a very coveted, exclusive profession. Now it is an industry that feeds so many different people on so many different levels. Today hiring an interior designer is not necessarily for the uber wealthy. I did not know how deeply I loved design until I started to think about what I wanted to do I completed my undergrad in English Then went to design school

Jen: Where did you go to design school?

Ali: The International Academy of Design

Jen: I did too! Do you feel like formal education in the design industry is necessary?

Ali: When I am interviewing, I am more focused on the programs I need rather than a formal design education. I also think, you either have it or you don’t You can nourish creativity, learn from others, and harness your own individuality, but in design you have to have that it factor or you will only create diluted versions

Jen: I am sure there are newer designers who look up to you, and rather than taking inspiration from you and creating their own style they are basically copycatting.

Ali: At some point you spread your own wings and listen to your own inner voice Recently, I was sent a kitchen photo on Instagram It was from someone else’s page, but it was the same kitchen I had designed, down to the light fixtures, the stones, and the hardware. It was a very specific kitchen. There is a difference between being inspired and completely copying someone. If you are inspired, take the materials, a layout, the finishes, or the vibe but do not take every single element. I am inspired by other designers all the time. There is amazing talent out there, but copying is something young designers need to be careful about

YOU CAN NOURISH CREATIVITY, LEARN FROM OTHERS, AND HARNESS YOUR OWN INDIVIDUALITY, BUT IN DESIGN YOU HAVE TO HAVE THAT IT FACTOR OR YOU WILL ONLY CREATE DILUTED VERSIONS.

Jen: A true artist is going to see inspiration through nature or a place they visited. The artistry is being able to then move that inspiration into their own piece of work.

My parents ran an advertising agency when I was growing up Every morning my father would walk around the office, and he knew everything about each one of his team members He really cared When my father died there were at least one hundred people that had worked for him at some point who showed up It was such an incredible example of how to unconventionally lead a team of people He died ten years ago He was able to see the first time I was featured in a magazine, while he was in the hospital, before he passed away. He was so proud. The way I show up, behave, and treat people is because of him.

Jen: You are building the same legacy. You have fostered a gorgeous team , but I imagine dealing with clients from time to time could be a challenge?

Ali: Our team designs day-in and day-out I can build a house with my eyes closed, but the design experience is new for some clients Design is a very emotional endeavor for people What they are spending is arguably the biggest personal investment they have made. People get stressed, but for the last five years we have only been working for clients that are respectful, who treat myself and my team with kindness and dignity.

Ali: Exactly. Inspiration is limitless. I always have so many ideas in my head. Think about the songs that have not been written, the spaces that have not been designed, and the paintings that have not been painted This is why I hate AI Art is human and imperfect There must be something human about art, performance, and design I am afraid AI is going to remove the element of imperfect humanity from what we do Some of my favorite results have been, what we call, happy accidents

Jen: How do you stay innovative? The way you pull pieces, textures , and colors together fascinates me. It is beautiful. How do you do this over-and-over again? What is your inspiration?

Ali: I get inspiration from everywhere, all the time, from everything. I am my most joyful in the office when my team and I are around our big table, pulling from different images. I get inspiration from other designers, from artists, and from nature I hate when people say they are inspired by nature because it is such a cheesy thing to say, but I recently collected shells with my youngest daughter when we were in Costa Rica I took a photo of the shells because they were all different, earthy colors Now we are currently designing a room, pulling from those colors Mother Nature never makes mistakes I also want to say, I have the most inspiring, incredible team That is something I point out when people give me a compliment.

Jen: I really appreciate that you brought up your team because I feel the same way. I do not believe in selfmade millionaires because there is a whole crew of people supporting the things I am doing every day to create success. Everyone in my life is so important. How do you incorporate your team? I can imagine you around your big table as everyone is bringing ideas. How do you cultivate that team synergy where everybody feels creative?

Ali: I am a very wildly inappropriate boss I have a close relationship with my team Creativity stems from trust, support, and laughter I do not want an environment where anyone is walking on eggshells or does not feel valued.

Jen: What would you say to an entrepreneur who is starting and wants to build their portfolio? At what point did you start to hold those boundaries with clients and standards for yourself?

Ali: Years ago, there was a specific incident between a client and me I did a good job, but they were never happy with anything. They were verbally abusive, to the point I was constantly feeling that horrible, anxious, sick feeling. At the end, they did not even pay me. I realized after that experience nothing is worth your peace. I am not saying that work is not stressful Of course it is! I am running a firm and filming a show Not every situation and design project is going to go perfectly That is not real life Stressful things happen, but never again at that level

Jen: What are you doing for yourself as a woman and a leader? What do you do to anchor yourself?

Ali: I am good with balance I have three children We share two of them, and it is an amazing, supportive relationship There are four of us and we are such a great team With my nanny, I do not make school lunches or clean my house I am not making dinner every single night I get home from work and those things are done because I want to be with my kids I could write a love letter about my nanny and how important she is to me My mom is super involved in my family’s life My professional team is incredible. I have a fantastic group of friends that jump in with my children and are wildly supportive. I do not know why everyone is lying about needing support or why women feel shame in saying they need help. We are not supposed to be super women, expected to do it all. Honestly, I am no good to anyone if I am burnt out My mom was very successful She told me when I became a mom, “guilt is a time waster I am working because I love it I am building something I am proud of, helping to support my family, and giving my children a beautiful life

Jen: You have been one of my favorite people to observe , and I have a deep respect for what you have built. It has taken effort , time , and commitment. I am sure there were aches and pains, lessons in leadership, but friend you are exceptional at what you do. I applaud it. Thank you for sharing with us because it is inspiring.

You have a show coming out on HGTV?

Ali: It has been on Hulu and is airing all over the world, now in Australia, Europe, and Asia. It is finally coming home on HGTV. Over the next few months, I have new projects and a lovely summer of things to experience. I feel so blessed to be where we are now Our show allows us to open doors to more, and I appreciate that so much I am proud of it because it is deeply rooted in reality I hope you watch it and love it

Chapters where you

will grieve as a mother

Last month I moved my oldest son into college and watched my oldest

daughter drive off to her third year of university It left me excited and deeply reflective for how fast time goes by. My mom told me as my kids were growing that there are chapters where you will grieve as a mother.

Grieve the child who wanted you to snuggle up, hold your hand and tuck them in but no longer want you to lie down with them anymore I crave those days back and I also forgive myself for all the nights I wanted to rush bedtime to get to all the things I needed to do, check off my list and have time alone

Grieve the child who wanted to be with you every minute and now don’t give you much of their time anymore. I miss those moments and I also forgive myself for those times where I wanted to scream and run away for a minute to feel like I could have some space.

Grieve the child who wanted to lean in on you and hear your advice and wisdom but now don’t even ask and if they do, roll their eyes at you I think of those times where I had their attention and I also forgive myself for feeling like there were so many other things that I needed to do and naively felt like I had more time

I saw how the grief isn’t all about how they grow but the things you miss and wish you had known.

The moments you could have savored more. The understanding that it is only a blink of an eye in time. You yearn for the peace and stillness to be present and soak it all in a little more.

My kids aren’t gone There is a new chapter opening which also means a closing to another I do wonder why we can’t live life in reverse sometimes I love who my older two children are becoming and celebrate all the parts of the journey that got them here I am a better version of myself for them now as well and that feels good for creating a new relationship with them as adults. I look forward to deeper and more meaningful conversations as they develop their own opinions and experiences.

I suppose in all the reflection what I realized was there are things I will really miss yet there are still many things I look forward to The best part is the gathered wisdom of savoring all that is to come a little more than I have in the past

EXPLORING HOW INTUITION CAN GUIDE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT BY INTUITIVE GUIDE AND SOUL COACH BY CARLY WALKER

We ’ ve all felt it before: a pang in your gut, a message that drops into your

mind, a nudge that pulls you Some call it a sixth sense, others call it your inner knowing, though it is better known as intuition. When ignored, we usually end up experiencing a fate less than favorable, but when harnessed, our intuition has the power to guide us to some of the most incredible places. Learning to use the power of your intuition is similar to going to the gym: everyone has the muscle for it, you just have to practice strengthening it As an intuitive guide and soul coach, I have spent many years learning to practice and utilize this tool What I have learned is that being in touch with your intuition is a powerful way to guide yourself towards your most fulfilling and abundant path If you are new to this practice and are wondering where to start, here are some easy and practical ways to cultivate your intuition to help you on your journey towards personal and professional development.

Open the Door for Communication

It might sound obvious and simple, but in order for your intuition to come through, you have to take the time to listen and try to understand its language This doesn't just mean sitting in a corner and meditating though that can be helpful you have to understand how it speaks to you Everyone's intuition communicates differently, and it's important to recognize how yours is trying

to reach you Is it through your body as a tightness in your chest or a feeling in your gut? Maybe it shows up as flashes or a feeling you just can’t explain, or perhaps you wake up in the middle of the night with an idea that just “ came to you ” Once you begin to understand how your intuition speaks to you, you can start to translate it

Ask a Question

Your intuition is only as good as the questions you ask it. The best way to begin the translation process is by asking a question and waiting for the answer to show up for you. Start with simple, close-ended questions that beckon a yes or no answer Begin to recognize what feels like a YES and what feels like a NO for you For me, a definite yes feels like lightness, a pull of curiosity, or a sense of ease My “ no ” on the other hand, feels more like a brick being thumped down in front of me, a static non-moving response Eventually, you can ask more in-depth questions You’ll be able to decipher what a forward motion feels like for you yes, proceed on this path, this is right for you versus no, this is not the right thing for you, stand still or move in a different direction. Have fun with this part; play around with it and notice how these answers come to you and feel for you.

STEPONE
STEPTWO

STEPTHREE

Understand the Difference Between Intuition and Fear

This is a crucial aspect of understanding your intuition, especially if you want to use it for personal and professional development. In this day and age, many of us have dealt with sensations of anxiety, fear, and worry. Sometimes these emotions can be mistaken for your inner knowing, leading to actions that may not be in your best interest. Here's the main difference: your intuition will drop in as non-emotionally charged information It might say, “Hey, don’t go there” or “You are going to see that person again” What it won’t say is, “You are going to die on that plane and you should never go on planes again because if you do, you ’ re done for” Fear is emotionally charged and wants to move you; intuition is neutral, guiding, and calm, even when delivering inklings of less than favorable outcomes Sometimes our intuitive “knowings” can be mistaken for our belief systems. If you ’ re aiming to master your intuition, it’s important to recognize that our beliefs significantly influence what we allow for ourselves. If we believe we aren't worthy of more money in our career or don’t have the capacity to take on more, we are more likely to make decisions based on those beliefs If we believe we are being guided and that through deep listening to ourselves amazing opportunities come our way, that belief opens us to the possibilities that come with it

STEPFOUR

Practice Taking Trusting Aligned Actions

As I said earlier, your intuition is like a muscle; you must continue to practice to strengthen it Part of that practice is actually trusting and taking action upon the guidance you ’ ve been given. This is often the most challenging part. When you feel that pull, that seed of desire, which is your intuition's way of guiding you forward, can you take the bold step and follow it? As you do, your intuition will become stronger because you are telling your subconscious mind that this method of living feels safe and supportive When we feel safe and know we are protected, we are more likely to open ourselves up to our intuition and listen to it further One way to start trusting your intuition more is by making a list in your phone or a notebook every time you ’ ve trusted your intuitive guidance and it worked out in your favor The more you affirm to yourself that this tool supports you, the more information will come, and the more you will be able to take inspired aligned action on that information.

As you learn to harness your intuition, you'll find it becomes a powerful tool for every area of your life If you ’ re feeling dissatisfied with your professional path, intuition can guide you towards what truly calls you forward, helping you build the confidence to take aligned actions. Think of intuition as a conversation ask what should be next for you, or what inspires you, and then listen for the response that resonates within you. As you ' ve learned in this article, your response will depend on how your intuition communicates with you When you move beyond fear, doubt, and limiting beliefs into a space of trust, allowing, and aligned action, the world you ’ ve been longing for begins to open up Whether you ' re stepping into a new relationship, pursuing a career opportunity, striving to become the best version of yourself, or simply seeking a deeper connection to your inner knowing, intuition is the perfect tool to help you step into the next chapter of your life.

I’WHY HEALTH IS THE FUTURE OF BEAUTY

ve been an aesthetician for 14 years and if there’s anything I’ve learned: the world is obsessed with beauty When I first started in the industry, my views on beauty were limited to the products being used and the treatments being done. It wasn’t until I came off the birth control that I’d been on for a decade and developed cystic hormonal acne (among many other symptoms) that I realized, I’d had it all wrong. Not only was my health turned upside down, but my career no longer made sense to me I didn’t connect anymore to what I was doing how can I just recommend someone to use a serum for their skin without addressing the elephant in the room: What’s going on with your health? What’s your diet like? How are your stress levels? Is your cycle regular?

This lead me on a personal health journey that eventually lead me to acupuncture. Not only did I notice a profound shift with my health, it was the first time a medical system took my entire wellbeing into account. I was hooked. I spent the next 4 years in school learning an ancient medicine that’s been around for over 3000 years, and when I came out the other side, I was changed forever Beauty for me, was changed forever I started my business SILK + PALM in 2018 with the intention of changing how people viewed beauty, and to facilitate healing, on every level After 6 years, I can proudly say I’ve helped people do just that One of the main focuses in my business is facial acupuncture: a hybrid beauty treatment that not only stimulates collagen production but can also address any health issues. It’s an all natural, facial rejuvenation treatment that involves the use of tiny needles placed into specific areas on the face. These needles cause micro trauma to the skin which signals the body to send collagen to the area to heal. Of course, that’s not all it does we also do a full health intake and body acupuncture to heal from the inside out, and address any imbalances that may be happening internally

Why is this important? In Chinese Medicine, there are meridians that run along the body and each meridian is connected with a different organ system, and inside them Qi (energy) flows.

Healthy skin starts from the inside which is why looking at our health is the root of our beauty.

Unfortunately, Qi can become blocked or stagnant, usually due to stress, emotions or lifestyle choices, causing an imbalance of yin and yang which can allow pathogens to invade the body, leading to illness and disharmony Acupuncture works by reestablishing the flow of Qi along these meridians, harmonizing the body and restoring the delicate balance of yin and yang. This is where true healing happens.

While many people today realize the importance of taking care of themselves for their health, the idea of beauty as a holistic treatment is slowly becoming more mainstream Gone are the days of using a single skincare product and expecting miracles People don’t want to just look good, they want to feel good, and those things go hand in hand

Healthy skin starts from the inside which is why looking at our health is the root of our beauty. Beauty to me is no longer just the way someone looks, the products they use or how well they might be aging. It’s the way we take care of ourselves throughout our life that will eventually show up on the outside and inevitably, pave the way we look and feel The food we eat, the thoughts we think, the way in which we move our body, our stress and trauma all impact the way in which our bodies heal and in turn, the way we and the world, see ourselves Having a holistic view of our aging allows us to work with our bodies instead of working against them, and puts us in the drivers seat of our wellbeing and beauty leaving us empowered, educated, confident, flowing and glowing!

WAYS TO INTEGRATE HEALTH INTO YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

EAT YOUR SKINCARE We’ve all heard the expression “ you are what you eat” and when it comes to beauty, it couldn’t be more true. Food fuels us and gives us energy. It also contains the building blocks of collagen - the most abundant protein in our body. Foods containing vitamin c, zinc, omega ’ s and amino acids are all good places to start when looking to increase collagen levels and have healthy, glowing skin

SWEAT IT OUT Movement is one of the simplest ways to get our Qi flowing and our skin glowing! Exercise increases blood flow, moves Qi and strengthens our skin barrier. Sweat makes up an integral part of our barrier known as the acid mantle, which helps strengthen and protect our skin, as well as maintain a healthy ph balance. Exercise also helps to reduce stress and get our lymphatic system pumping, which in turn benefits our skin in the long run

SLEEPING BEAUTY They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing. Sleep is one of the most regenerative things we can do for our health and our skin. During sleep, our bodies are hard at work repairing tissue, rejuvenating cells and increasing blood flow all things crucial for feeling and looking your best Studies have shown that our cells heal 3x faster during sleep then when we ’ re awake So next time you ’ re thinking of staying up to binge watch your favourite show, remember your missing out on some crucial beauty sleep

Long-time friends

turned first-time founders

For almost a decade, we were close friends. Each of us on our own corp-

corporate path, with a mutual love for travel, food, and wellness activities If you had told us we’d open a sauna and ice bath studio together, we wouldn’t have believed you We were each heads-down in the corporate world Uj in Strategy & Finance, Aleya in Operations, Mel in Customer Experience, and Tyler in Software Development To us, these wellness activities were “treat yourself” moments, and whenever we could, we’d travel as a respite from corporate life.

It was in Istanbul, Turkey where we enjoyed a midday hammam and left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and ready to take on the day A few years later, we traveled to Tampere, Finland and visited one public sauna a day We fell in love with the simplicity of the practice get hot in the sauna, cool down in the lake, repeat Our travels helped us gain an appreciation for communal bathing rituals as a part of everyday life

The idea behind Alter came to us after trying a communal sauna and ice bath pop-up in Toronto. We enjoyed the experience, but the pop-up was coming to an end. We were keen on making hot and cold a part of our routine, similar to what we experienced in Turkey and Finland, but the options were limited public spas were far away, private facilities lacked community, everything was too expensive to enjoy on a regular basis

Call it a serendipitous moment we all came to a similar realization at the same time: Why can’t these centuries-old, proven practices become commonplace here? Why can’t we be the ones to do that? When it came to working together, the decision was surprisingly easy We knew there was a shared interest for the practice We knew our friendship set a strong foundation of trust We knew we each brought complementary experiences, skills, and networks to the table Ultimately, we all felt strongly that we each needed to be involved in order for Alter to be a success.

We’ve been working together for nearly two years now So far, these are our biggest lessons as long-time friends turned first-time founders:

1. Align on your vision early, check in on it regularly

WE INTRODUCED REGULAR RETROSPECTIVES TO ADDRESS WHAT WE NEEDED TO START, STOP, AND CONTINUE. THESE CHECK-INS DRIVE OUR HIGH ACCOUNTABILITY CULTURE, AND ENSURE WE KEEP IMPROVING.

Before we decided to move forward with Alter, we each shared our vision for the business and our long-term goals both personal and professional. This initial discussion helped us establish a “North Star” which has become a touchstone for important conversations. We started with the vision. To lead a movement towards enhanced well-being through the consistent practice of hot and cold exposure Then, we aligned on our values our core beliefs that guide our decisions and bring our vision to life Be Open, Present, and Connected These ground us when we get overwhelmed or lost in the minutiae of the day-to-day operation In those moments, we know we can fall back on our shared goals and principles, and use them as an anchor for all decisions big or small

2. Define swimlanes, balance independence and collaboration

From the get-go, we were adamant about being on the front line to improve our guest experience and overall operation. We did this and continue to do this by regularly working studio shifts We’d spot something to improve and jump on it As friends, we share a level of comfort that’s uncommon among most co-workers It’s a major perk, but also something to watch out for Comfort can blur the lines between helping and overstepping We found our incessant need to help each other slowed us down We were all “focusing” on everything, and we didn’t give each other the space to independently problem-solve. We addressed this early on in a few ways. We defined domains based on our individual strengths and interests. We set domain objectives that lined up with our priorities. We held check-ins to discuss progress, share ideas, and ask for help Finally, we gave ample time for individual and focused work blocks These extra layers of structure removed the risk of blurring lines, and gave each of us the space to balance independent and collaborative working

3. Pursue entrepreneurship, preserve friendship

Before there was entrepreneurship, there was friendship Just a few months into our venture, we learned how important it was to reinforce the friendship that brought us together and ensure it remained a core strength of our professional relationship. Of course, that’s easier said than done it can be difficult to take the founder hat off, but we ’ ve made it a point to prioritize time together outside of Alter. Each month, one of us plans a fun, surprise social where we can hang out, free from business discussions These moments remind us why we decided to work together and that even in the toughest of times we’ll be there for each other

4. Reflect on your mistakes, celebrate your successes

It’s easy to put our heads down and lose sight of what’s happening around us. If we don’t take the time to reflect, we miss out on personal, professional, and business growth. Our mistakes are where we learn the most, but it’s easy to put off tough conversations. We needed to find a productive way of surfacing and dissecting our mistakes to help us learn from and prevent them We introduced regular retrospectives to address what we needed to start, stop, and continue These check-ins drive our high accountability culture, and ensure we keep improving Our successes are what keep us motivated Everything from fixing a leaky faucet to reaching a major company milestone should be acknowledged and celebrated. It’s easy to get distracted by “the next thing” or take each others’ efforts for granted. We needed to make a conscious effort to recognize wins a brief text message, a meeting shoutout, a planned celebration. These keep us engaged and hungry to continue succeeding.

By staying aligned on our vision, defining our domains, balancing entrepreneurship and friendship, and regularly reflecting on our wins and misses, we ’ ve done more than build a business we ’ ve deepened our bond and built an unmatched team spirit. These efforts were key to creating Alter and developing a welcoming atmosphere of warmth and community around a timeless practice.

Scary Launch Stories

THE HAUNTING TALES OF MISSED OPPORTUNITIES AND SPOOKY SLIP-UPS

As the leaves turn golden and the crisp chill of October

fills the air, there's something eerie about the stories that circulate among entrepreneurs tales of launches gone wrong, filled with the ghostly whispers of "what could have been" If you ' ve ever been through a launch, you know it's not for the faint of heart For every success story, there’s a horror story lurking in the shadows, waiting to send shivers down your spine Let's explore some of the most terrifying launch mistakes, and learn how to avoid them, using the best advice to ensure your next product or service launch isn’t haunted by failure.

TheTaleoftheHalf-BakedLaunch

In the darkest corners of the entrepreneurial world, there lies a tale of the half-baked launch. This is the story of a business owner who decided to wing it thinking they could simply " see if it sells first" without truly committing their time, energy, or resources. They launched their product with minimal effort, cutting corners and skipping crucial details, hoping to strike gold without the groundwork Their graphics are scrappy and look like they were copied straight out of Canva There is no rhythm or reason to their messaging and content It’s just all a wait and see game

The result? A launch that smelled bad, in every sense of the word. Like a forgotten potion brewing in the attic, the stench of an unprepared launch lingered long after the failure was apparent. Customers could sense the lack of effort, and what could have been a dazzling success turned into a nightmare of poor sales and tarnished reputation The community watches the launch burn down and smells that the founder never really believed in it enough to care for the details to begin with Trust is broken and the stench lingers

Do: Don’t:

Prepare your launch like it costs a million dollars for both you and your potential clients. Invest in every detail, ensuring nothing is left to chance. This isn't just another product; it’s the future of your business.

Wing it and hope for the best A half-hearted effort is like leaving your front door open on Halloween night inviting all sorts of ghouls and goblins to wreak havoc.

Don’t Be the Star of Your Own Scary Launch Story

In another spine-tingling tale, we meet the Phantom Seller an entrepreneur who hid behind posts and graphics, thinking that polished visuals alone would do the trick They believed that the product would sell itself if they just posted enough aesthetically pleasing images But the Phantom Seller underestimated the power of personal connection

Do:

Show up in your stories and share, share, share! Let your potential clients feel your energy, hear your voice, and understand why your product or service is exactly what they need Your presence isn’t annoying it’s necessary.

Don’t:

Hide behind your posts Your graphics can only do so much; it’s your passion and personality that will truly sell

TheCursedQuitter

Finally, we come to the story of the Cursed Quitter an entrepreneur who started their launch with fiery passion but quickly fizzled out when results weren’t immediate This tale is as old as time: the Cursed Quitter loses momentum, thinking their efforts are in vain, and abandons the launch before the final bell tolls But what they didn’t realize was that some customers were watching, waiting, needing just a little more time to make a decision

By giving up too soon, the Cursed Quitter didn’t just lose a sale; they lost the trust of those who were on the fence, showing them that maybe the product wasn’t worth it after all The ghost of lost opportunities continues to haunt them, whispering "What if?"

Do:

Finish your launch with the same energy and passion as you started Stay the course, even when it feels like no one ’ s watching. Often, the last push is what makes all the difference.

Don’t:

Quit early Don’t give up on those who need more time to decide By sticking it out, you show your commitment and seriousness, which could be just what they need to take the leap.

DONT BE THE STAR OF YOUR OWN SCARY LAUNCH STORY

This Halloween, make sure your launch is a treat, not a trick Avoid these common pitfalls by preparing thoroughly, showing up with energy, and seeing your launch through to the very end After all, the real horror stories are the ones where the entrepreneur let their own fears and doubts creep in, leading to a frightful failure Don’t be the star of your own scary launch story be the hero who turned potential nightmares into dream successes.

BRING COZY COMFORT WITH DISHES THAT USE SEASONAL INGREDIENTS

Chicken Pot Pie withleeks&thyme

INGREDIENTS

1 large egg

1 tablespoon water

1/2 (17.3-ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed

1/2 cup (4 ounces) unsalted butter

2 cups thinly sliced leek (from 1 large leek)

1 cup chopped carrots (from 3 medium carrots)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (about 2 1/8 ounces)

2 1/2 cups chicken stock

4 cups shredded rotisserie chicken

1 cup frozen petite sweet peas, thawed

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme, plus thyme leaves for garnish

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Whisk 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Roll out a pastry sheet into a 12-inch square and cut it into sixteen 3-inch squares; set aside. In a 10-inch ovenproof skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat and add leeks and carrots, cooking for about 6 minutes until softened. Sprinkle with flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add stock and simmer, stirring, until the mixture thickens, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in chicken, peas, cream, Dijon mustard, parsley, thyme, salt, and pepper, then remove from heat. Brush the pastry squares with the egg wash and arrange them on top of the chicken mixture, slightly overlapping to cover the surface. Place the skillet on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Let it stand for 10 minutes before garnishing with fresh thyme and serving.

Mushroom Flatbread

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 pounds fresh mushrooms (such as oyster, beech, and/or cremini),

cut into small pieces (about 7 cups)

6 tablespoons olive oil, divided

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste

1 large garlic clove, grated

1/2 cup heavy cream, plus more as needed

2 tablespoons white miso

1 (16 1/2- x 4 1/2-inch) flatbread (such as Trader Joe’s Pizza Crust)

2 ounces low-moisture part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded (about 1/2 cup)

1 1/4 ounces Parmesan cheese, grated (about 1/3 cup)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the oven to 450°F. Toss mushrooms with 1/4 cup oil, salt, and pepper on a baking sheet, then roast for 25 to 35 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in garlic and set aside. Whisk cream and miso in a bowl and set aside. Brush both sides of flatbread with 2 tablespoons of oil and bake on a parchmentlined sheet until toasted, about 5 minutes. Spread with half of the miso-cream sauce, top with half the mushrooms, sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan, and add the remaining mushrooms. Bake until the flatbread is crisp and the cheese melts, 6 to 8 minutes. Thin the remaining misocream sauce with cream for drizzling. Toss arugula with 1 teaspoon of the sauce, scatter over the flatbread, and season with pepper. Cut into 8 pieces and serve with the remaining sauce.

Rosemary-Garlic Pork Chops withChickpeas

INGREDIENTS

4 center-cut bone-in pork rib chops

(3/4 to 1 inch thick; 10 ounces each)

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary, plus 2 sprigs

1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest

Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

1 19-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

6 cloves garlic, smashed

1/2 cup sliced jarred roasted red peppers

1/3 cup low-sodium chicken broth

Chopped fresh parsley, for topping

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the broiler. Toss pork chops with 1 tablespoon olive oil, chopped rosemary, lemon zest, salt, and pepper on a baking sheet. In a bowl, toss chickpeas, garlic, roasted red peppers, and rosemary sprigs with the remaining 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper, then scatter around the pork chops on the baking sheet. Pour chicken broth over the chickpea mixture. Broil for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring the chickpeas and rotating the sheet halfway through, until the pork reaches 145°F. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.

Pumpkin Pasta

INGREDIENTS

Kosher salt

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

One 15-ounce can pure pumpkin puree

Sage Butter:

1 stick (8 ounces) unsalted butter

6 fresh sage leaves

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and dust a baking sheet with flour. In a food processor, pulse flour and pumpkin puree until a dough forms, about 1 minute. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, divide into four pieces, and roll and cut into the desired shape. Place the pasta on the prepared baking sheet, sprinkle with flour to prevent sticking, and cover with plastic wrap if not cooking immediately. Cook the pasta in boiling water until tender, 2 to 5 minutes, depending on thickness. Meanwhile, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, add sage, and cook until the leaves are crispy and the butter is slightly browned. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, toss to coat, and season with salt and pepper.

Tstart my entrepreneurship journey was give myself five years of dedication to growth and learning without the option to quit I quickly decided I would treat my business and vision like I was going back to school to gain another degree

There would be tuition fees, book costs and other investments I would need to make → I would pay for mentorship, pay for a brand, website and other essentials that were necessary to succeed

There would be classes to attend, books to read and lectures to listen to → I would show up in the rooms I invested in, listen to podcasts, read the books and not make excuses

There would be assignments and projects to create → I would give building the fundamentals of my business the time and resources they required to create. I would treat everything as a key component to the big picture and not bypass the parts I’d rather not do

There would be learning and development involved constantly → I would be a student to everything it took to become the best in class CEO for my business and clients

To graduate, I would need to see it through → when I felt like quitting, I would remember that the growing pains are a part of the process and I would not quit until I graduated.

he best thing I ever did for myself when I decided to These promises gave me the time, discipline and focus to remember that this was not a three month trial or a “let’s give it a try” attitude I wasn’t looking at a one year from now destination but a five year commitment of doing what it took to grow a business I wish more entrepreneurs saw things this way For themselves For their dreams For their future clients For their business The removal of the unnecessary gives space for magic, miracles and patience for the process of building something that lasts. I know that rushed success can look sexy but your business outgrowing who you are is not easy. Trust me I’ve been there and done that and it’s another article for another day. You wouldn’t expect yourself to get a degree in one year. Nor would you expect to understand everything you need to know to become an expert and qualified graduate in a few months. Give yourself and your business time. It’s the most incredible gift of growth and peace for the journey you are on. Take this approach and watch quantum leaps appear because they have room to occur. Give yourself pace and patience in learning the lessons that are necessary and the leader you become will be the greatest reward of all Remember the joy and beauty within the journey and gratitude will notice all the wins, memories and achievements that could have gone unnoticed in a rushed energy You are wildly capable and anything worth having takes time and effort Allow your story to unfold the way it was intended Breathe my friend and stay laser focused on who you are becoming
