CELEBRATING AND SUPPORTING GREEN LOCAL BUSINESSES

The Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual BusinessAwards and Recognition Ceremony on September 19th. For the third year the Wasaga Beach ClimateActionTeam (WBCAT) partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to celebrate and support local businesses taking steps to become more sustainable with “Green Certificate”.

The 2024 “Green Certificates” were presented to eight local businesses who are making efforts towards responsible and sustainable choices for themselves as well as their consumers, clients and community

Below are some very short highlights about the winners of this program:

Affordable Comfort

Eco-Friendly Products: We select products and materials that are not only effective but also have a lower environmental impact. For instance, we use refrigerants that are less harmful to the ozone layer

A & W - Wasaga Beach

A & W (Both Wasaga Beach and Collingwood) have a zero waste policy advertised in the drive through. There is an option to use a mug versus a take away single use disposable cup and lid which reduces waste.

Cannabis Cove

We have set up a battery collection bin in our foyer so that people can be educated and dispose of vaporizers knowing that we will funnel them to a safe disposal site. We have also set up a cannabis packaging bin as these often contain plastic.

Habitat for Humanity Huronia & Restores

At the Restores our main mission is to reduce, recycle ,reuse and to avoid items being diverted to the landfills. We at HFHH Restores make all of our volunteers aware of how we are helping the Earth, Air, and future for families and their children.

MAX 97.7

Our Company vehicle is a cross for less gas consumption. We use high efficiency lighting and our carbon footprint is going down daily

Skydive Wasaga Beach

To reduce carbon emissions: We set up a temporary tent at Klondike Park each day that we are operating. As an environmentalist we decided to use solar power. We set up a portable 120w solar power panel that provides all the power needed.

Wasaga Society for theArts (WSA)

Every effort is made to reuse, upcycle and reduce. Our drinking water is local from the Elmvale flow, water as nature intended – crystal clear and balanced. No single use plastic is purchased for events.

Wu Wu Cabins

Installed high-efficiency ductless air source heat pumps in each cottage and high efficiency furnace in the main building. Installed 30 solar panels. They provide energy to the whole complex.

The community of Wasaga Beach thanks these amazing local businesses for all of their efforts and sustainable choices. We want to encourage them to display their “Green Certificates” prominently and also encourage our community to support these businesses at every opportunity

On that same day WBCAT won the Service ClubAward for not-for-profit organizations. “This award is given to a business that has made a positive difference in Wasaga Beach, either through volunteering or financial support to activities which enrich, protect or entertain the citizens of Wasaga Beach.”

Thank you toThe Chamber of Commerce and to CaithkinTreatment Foster Homes for sponsoring this award. Congratulations and kudos to the fantasticTeam of WBCATvolunteers for their contribution.

We need to achieve sustainability through a greener economy Engage with Wasaga Beach ClimateActionTeam
