We Won Our Own Award And We're Honoured!

We're excited to share some fantastic news - the Wasaga Beach ClimateAction Team (WBCAT) has been recognized with a special award!Abig thank you to our nominators and to everyone who continues to support our efforts toward building a greener, more sustainable community

Celebrating ThreeYears of Green Impact

Three years ago, WBCATlaunched the Green Certificate Program in partnership with the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce andTourism. Our mission? To recognize and support local businesses striving to become more environmentally sustainable by:

· Reducing energy consumption

· Managing waste responsibly

· Making environmentally conscious choices in their supply chain

Since the program's inception, 35 businesses have earned the coveted Green Certificatea testament to Wasaga Beach's strong commitment to reducing carbon emissions and embracing sustainability

APause in the Program – But Not in the Progress

This year, due to a change in the Chamber's awards ceremony schedule, WBCATwas unable to run the Green Certificate Program. However, we're incredibly thankful that the Chamber of Commerce andTourism stepped in to keep the spirit of the program alive.

And the NomineesAre...

Four inspiring nominees were recognized for their contributions to environmental stewardship:

· Habitat for Humanity ReStore

· Wasaga Beach Horticultural Society

· Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach

· Wasaga Beach ClimateActionTeam (WBCAT) – with a special mention toTerry MacKay

AShoutout to Terry MacKay

Terry has been a driving force in the fight to protect local trees — an increasingly urgent issue as development accelerates. Her contributions include:

· Organizing a tree planting event with the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, where hundreds of trees were planted at Klondike Sports Park

· Selling an Urban Forest Starter Kit to encourage community tree planting

· Leading a petition that gathered nearly 900 signatures in support of tree protection

· Writing educational articles forThe BeachBooster

· Receiving training in tree identification including age and health assessment

· Collaborating with others to rewrite the town's tree-cutting bylaw and develop a new tree preservation bylaw (in progress).

We are so grateful forTerry's passion, dedication, and tireless advocacy

Looking Back – and Forward

Last year, WBCATwas honoured to receive the Best Not-for-Profit of theYear award.

That recognition only strengthened our resolve to inspire climate action across Wasaga Beach through:

· Rain barrel distribution

· Shoreline cleanups

· Occasional speaker events

· Monthly newsletters

· Attendance at trade shows, farmers markets

· Articles in the beach BOOSTER and What's Up? Georgian Bay magazine.

· Participating in the ClimateAction Committee advising theTown Council

Our events are open to everyone, and membership is free. We meet at 6:30 pm on the 4th Wednesday of every month, sometimes on Zoom and sometimes in person. For details, check out our website or reach out by email — links below

ThankYou!

Thanks again to the Chamber of Commerce andTourism, to the businesses continuing to step up for the environment, and to every individual helping to build a greener Wasaga Beach.

Together, we are making a difference.

Steve Says...

Canada Day hangover? It's called 'Sunshine Recovery Mode'.

If you didn't get sand in your shoes, were you even at Wasaga Beach?

I came for the fireworks, I stayed for the fries under the fireworks.

Summer goal: get a tan that's less 'lobster' and more 'lightly toasted marshmallow'.

Step count? I just counted how many times I went for Mr. Norm's ice cream.

Wasaga Beach: where your phone gets sunburned too.

Remember, calories don't count on weekends. Or Tuesdays & Thursdays at the beach.

Local forecast: 80% chance of sunscreen in your eyes.

Beach hair: don't care. Sand hair: starting to care.

We didn't bring enough snacks. Again.

Nothing says summer like chasing your umbrella down the beach.

Canada Day at Wasaga Beach: where you wave more flags than you check your phone.

You know it's summer when your flipflops melt on the sidewalk.

Long weekends prove you can live off hot dogs and sunshine.

Wasaga Beach Summer: where you meet your neighbours in traffic.

Reminder: beach days are cheaper than therapy.

The sunscreen bottle said waterresistant, not sand-resistant.

When your ice cream melts faster than you can eat it, you know it's a perfect Wasaga day.

Local wildlife spotted: seagull with your fries.

Tanned? No, that's just ketchup from the beach fries.

May your beach fries stay warm, your ice cream stay cold, and your Wasaga Beach stories stay sunny!
