For Earth Day, Be A Solution to Shoreline Pollution

Since 1970, Earth Day has mobilized and inspired over a billion people to act in support of the health and prosperity of our shared planet. This Earth Day, we plan to show our appreciation for Georgian Bay's beauty and natural resources with a shoreline cleanup at Wasaga Beach #2 on Sunday,April th,27 from 1:00 to 3:00pm.

The philosophy behind Earth Day is to strengthen communities and effect change globally by empowering the individual. Each person's actions matter when it comes to environmental protection and advocacy, and when those individuals unite, their actions become that much stronger. Georgian Bay Forever shares this sentiment with the Earth Day movement. We believe stewardship is a universal objective, and global change is made possible through community education and individual understanding of environmental issues. That's why we encourage everyone to set small, achievable goals for saving the planet. Climate crisis can seem like an impossible-to-defeat threat, but the Earth is resilient, and small changes add up.

Georgian Bay Forever's Shoreline Cleanup events have amassed a collection of approximately 1,000 pounds of garbage on average each year from several Georgian Bay community shorelines. These events started small, but with

thousands of hours of volunteer time to date, our impact continues to grow Without these efforts, thousands of pounds of garbage would remain on public shores or be swept into the bay. Each one of our volunteers has done their part to prevent this outcome.

Join us this year for a special shoreline cleanup in Wasaga Beach to celebrate Earth Day if you want to make positive changes on a community level. We're excited to announce that we've partnered with LitterLotto to educate the public on issues of pollution, change the way people think about littering, and offer cash and other prizes while doing so.Turn trash into cash by downloading the app and logging a photo each time you bin a piece of public litter. Every entry is a chance to win, and there is no limit to the number of entries—the more photos submitted, the higher your chance of winning. Prizes include $50/week for entries within the Georgian Bay area, and a global prize of £500/month (this is a UK-based company) which is around $900 Cdn for all entries.

Download the LottoLitter app onApple or Google store, or click on the poster QR code.

We look forward to another year of protecting and preserving Georgian Bay and its waters with the help of so many generous volunteers, and hope to see you all th there at theApril 27 Wasaga Beach Shoreline Cleanup. Also, we will be doing clean-ups every week of the summer. Steve Says...

NO PEEKING

Spring time in The Beach. That awkward season when you don't know whether to wear a winter coat or flip-flops - so you wear both.

The snowbirds are coming back, the cottagers are returning… quick, everyone act natural!

It's 10°C, but the sun's out - break out the shorts!

The first sign of spring? Not flowers… but mosquitoes warming up for summer.

You know it's spring when you're eager to stand in line at Mr. Norm's Nephew for ice cream while still shivering.

Spring Work Out. Step 1: Walk to the beach. Step 2: Get sand stuck in everything you own. Step 3: Repeat daily.

Cyclists, joggers, and rollerbladers have returned to the streets. Good luck, drivers.

When expected guests check in; "We'll be there in an hour" means "We're stuck in traffic on Highway 400.”

A priest, a rabbit and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender asks the rabbit “what'll ya have?' The rabbit says “I dunno. I'm only here because of Auto-correct”.

April means birds chirping, waves crashing… and someone muttering about raking the yard again.

Nothing says spring like geese taking over the park like they own the place.

Fries taste 10 times better when eaten outside… and 20 times better when stolen by a seagull.

Wasaga Beach cottager's moto; “We're heading up to relax.”

Spends the entire weekend fixing things.

Spring and the return of warmer weather. That special time of year when people rediscover their bicycles… and their lack of coordination.

Ready for the first dip in the bay. Refreshing? More like an involuntary ice bath.

Wasaga Beach time distortion is like “Let's stay for a quick sunset” and somehow turns into midnight.

April Kayaking on the river is the fine line between “adventure” and “hypothermia.”
