So far they are thinking their hit drink will be the Carlfrappe, a delicious blend of coffee, ice, and caramel inspired by De Kalb Junior Carl Ranada. The average price for drinks is $3 and closer to Fall and Christmas, the special seasonal drinks are going to be $4.

Coach Wardlow has high hopes for this season: “If we stay healthy, I think we can do better than last year.” Weinmann agrees with Coach Wardlow that the season could go better than last year if everyone stays away from injuries.
This year the boys are taking in everything Coach Wardlow says and being ready to learn, so on Friday nights they can step on the field and leave with a win. Even though there are things they need to work on, they will get better over time. Support also gets the boys more into the game, so make sure to watch and cheer for your Tiger Team every Friday!

Hawk also agrees that the season is going to go well if all the freshmen can learn the game Ryder also says “If we do the plays right, we can score ” With only a few Seniors it makes it harder to have an experienced team, but Wardlow thinks this can help because the Seniors can teach the Freshmen everything they need to know.

According to Freshman Ryder Hawk, there were a few defensive and offensive mistakes in the Jamboree, but with time they can be fixed. Hawk was also quick to add, “I mess up a lot too.” Senior Chris Weinmann states that the team was “more open minded, more fast paced, and more into the game.”

LADY TIGERS CELEBRATE BEGINNING OF SOFTBALL SEASON WITH JAMBOREE

On August 23 De Kalb participated in the softball jamboree in Stanberry. Overall, the softball jamboree went pretty well. The girls won 2 of their 3 games, with scores as follows: 1 0 against Stanberry; 5 3 against Albany; n and 2-5 against Stewartsville .The team learned some valuable lessons that will help them on the field.. “ I think our hitting and pitching was on point,” says Sophomore Tori Hawk.
This year, the softball team has gained a lot of players, with a total of 21 girls on the team. Having more players means trying extra hard to get the team to work as one and also having a better chance of winning more games. “We gotta get better at fielding, and getting 21 girls to play in sync isn't easy,” says Coach Matthews.

Before coming to DeKalb, Mr. Chisam was previously a coach and teacher at Platte County Middle and High School, Osawatomie Middle and High School, and Wellsville Middle and High School.
During high school, his principal was his dad, so it's kind of ironic that he became a principal himself. He used to think being a principal was one of the last things he would do, but during his college baseball career, he had decided he wanted to become a coach.
Mr. Chisam is the new principal at DHS for the 22-23 school year. He is originally from Osawatomie, Kansas which is a small town south of Olathe, Kansas, so coming to DeKalb wasn’t a huge jump for our principal.

Although Mr. Chisam was originally a coach, after speaking with his colleagues he realized that he likes the “leadership aspect of being a head coach and being a principle has similarities except now you’re the coach of a whole school.""
Mr. Chisam also would like to say “I’m excited to be here at Dekalb High School and Middle School, and I’m excited to be a Tiger. I’m looking forward to the future and there’s lots of great students here. I'm looking forward to being able to help”. Welcome to the Tiger Family, Mr. Chisam!

Senior Wyatt Miller showed a pig at the State Fair. While he had a lot of fun at the event, Miller also “learned about hard work.”

Numerous students and Mr. Medsker spent their summer working toward and participating in several different events, including raising pigs, growing okra, and distributing beans and grains all over America.
At the Food Insecurity event in late August, Junior Rachel Reagan recalls, “we helped bag food like beans and grains for people around America at the state fair. The main focus of the event was helping people.”

AG STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER EVENTS
In August, the FFA chapter went to the State Fair and participated in community service. Some students took garden crops to the Fair. According to Mr. Medsker, working at the state fair and giving food to people taught the students about service and giving back to the community It also gave them some leadership skills.

Juniors Kalyn Hartman and Harlie Hall showed the okra they grew and won Grand and Reserve Champion for their prize crop.
At the DeKalb Homecoming, Hall, Hartman, Reagan, and others served food to the community. The event was so successful, that they even ran out of food because of the massive turnout.
