Middle School Girls Continue Working Hard

What to Listen To

On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Middle School Girls Basketball team faced off against the St Joe Christian Lions. They faced a tough loss, but are continuing to fight hard despite it.

When facing St. Joe Christian, the girls only lost 15 to 36, and Coach Carrasquillo says, “The girls worked hard and tried their best. SJC is a wellrounded team.” The girls are always working hard in practice and games, and Coach Carrasquillo believes that they need to work “on attacking the basket and boxing out for the next game.”

The girls also played a hard game against Rock Port on Tuesday, November 24th, which they sadly lost 11-36 Yet, they continue to fight against every team they go against.

See the team’s next game at Stewartsville against Platte Valley on December 6th and support our Lady Tigers.

This week I want to recommend Metric, a Canadian indie rock band that started in 1998 and most known for their song Black Sheep in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Metric’s most popular album is Fantasies (2009), this album features their hit song Help I’m Alive. This album is personally my favorite, my favorite song from this album would have to be Gold Guns Girls.

My favorite song from this band, however, is All Comes Crashing from their most recent album Formentera (2022).

If you fancy alternative music and need a new song to have stuck in your head, I definitely recommend Metric, available on all listening platforms.

What to Play

If you play video games and are looking for something new, I suggest playing Batman: Arkham Knight released in 2015. This game is part of a trilogy along with Batman: Arkham Asylum(2009) and Batman: Arkham City(2011). This game came out 10 years ago and looks like it could have been made today

It opens with you playing as a cop at a diner, when a man walks up to you and tells you to get another man to stop smoking, and when you walk up to the smoker you discover that it’s not actually smoke, but something called “fear toxin” created by one of the main villains in the game, The Scarecrow. This fear toxin causes you to hallucinate and see your greatest fears, and once it sets in, you draw your gun and end up shooting a lot of people in the diner because you see everyone as a bunch of demons.

After this, it switches to playing as batman and it shows a clip on the news of the Scarecrow threatening to spread his toxin across the whole city to take control of it. The main objective is to stop the villains and their gangs from completely destroying the city.

If I had to rate this game I would give it an 8 3/10 the only complaint I would have is that once you complete the story there is constant ash falling from the sky like snow and it just isn’t all that appealing.

R.C.C Hosts Annual

Princess Banquet

On Saturday, November 22nd, 6th-12th-grade girls were invited to the Rushville Christian Church to participate in the annual Princess Banquet.

Each year, girls in middle school and high school are invited to gather at the church to get their hair, makeup, and nails done, and wear a fancy dress to be served a full dinner like a “princess”

Boys in middle school and high school were also asked to volunteer to serve the food and bring the participating girls anything they might need throughout the night.

Fourth-grade volunteer Gabriel Kimberley says, “It was a very fun experience The girls looked very pretty dressed up, and I hope they had as much fun as I did! My favorite part was when the middle school girls kept asking me for help just to joke around with me ”

The girls got to eat a dinner including ham, potato casserole, and green beans, followed by brownies and ice cream for dessert. Following dinner, Senior Miley Phillips gave a short devotional. The girls also participated in games like Pictionary and Music Trivia, along with a guessing game

Wrapping up the night, Tanner Graber and A J Larabee prepared a karaoke version of the song Just the Two of Us by Grover Washington, Jr. and Matt Dusk.

Middle School Boys Take on the Court

On Monday, November 24, the middle school boys' basketball team went up against Rock Port. The Tigers, unfortunately, lost to the Blue Jays with a score of 2256 that night

Eli Wagner says that to improve himself he could,“Go home and shoot a basketball around to improve myself.”

The boys played again on Tuesday, December 2, against Saint Joseph Cristian. Scoring 50 - 16 with the Lions winning Although they may have lost, the boys played a tough game and got a lot better from their former games.

“Our defense was really good compared to our games this season. It’s probably one of our best games with a lot of fight,” says Wyatt Davis, talking about how much the boys team has improved on defense

The boys play on Saturday at Stewartsville for the 275 conference tournament, so come out and support them!

What to Watch

For this week’s What to Watch, I recommend Wicked: For Good This follows the second act of the original Broadway musical and focuses on the aftermath of the first film, as Elphaba, now the Wicked Witch of the West, is in exile and Glinda is the glamorous, popular “Good Witch”

Wicked: For Good is about the ongoing story of the friendship between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (Glinda the Good) in the Land of Oz.

This movie shows the importance of its exploration of true friendship, political propaganda, and personal morality, concluding the story of Elphaba and Glinda and setting up the world of The Wizard of Oz.

I rate this movie 5 out of 5 stars because it’s a really good movie and I think it’s better than the first one because the second one has more emotional payoff than the first one

Diva Of The WEEK

What to Read

Ag Ed on the Move

If you are in a book slump and looking for a book to get you out, then I recommend Love On The Brain by Ali Hazelwood.

The book was published in 2022 and follows Bee Konigswasser joining a project for NASA, where she has to work with her enemy, Levi Ward. My favorite thing about this book is how the author allows them to have a slow burn, instead of immediately falling in love

Hazelwood published her first book, The Love Hypothesis, in 2021, and it became her bestseller. Many of her books feature women in STEM, and some of my other favorites from this author are Love Hypothesis, Not In Love, and Love, Theoretically.

I rate this book a five out of five stars because I am easy to impress and it was a very good example of enemies to lovers.

On Wednesday, December 5th, Senior Miley Phillips indulges in her final lesson for the Elementary students, closing out this year’s Ag Ed

For her last time teaching our grateful elementary students this year, Miley Phillips taught them about the importance of agriculture Miley states that, “Agriculture is important because you are learning how to take care of different things such as animals and plants.”

With this being the last visit from the FFA members this year, many of the elementary students are very sad that it has to end, but grateful that they got to partake in learning about agriculture. Thank you to our loyal FFA members for taking their time to teach and educate our elementary students!
