It’s getting hot in here…..so…..actually, no, wait, please don’t do what those infamous timeless lyrics want you to do, since we wouldn’t want to be responsible for you getting into trouble!

It’s a very bittersweet time of year, especially for expats, since the one-way exodus has commenced, and lots of people are leaving for good, which is always depressing, since goodbyes are never fun, especially when you live in a small country like Kuwait where most of your social life revolves around friends, who turn into family. Then again, that’s the tax that expats have to pay unfortunately, regardless of where they end up going, unless they go home, and as we all know, home has its own unique set of challenges.

This issue of bazaar might help take your mind off things and help you cool off, starting with ice cream! You’ve probably heard of or tried Kuwait’s latest sweet obsession, OH G! But do you know the story behind the brand? We got Up Close and Personal with Ghalia Hayat, ice cream lover, aficionado and the genius who made it all possible. If you want to treat yourself to something, that’s not food, then you need to try Reemis’ candles. We invited Reem to a little game of Truth or Dare and she told us how she found a creative outlet from her corporate job in the middle of the pandemic in the form of making candles. If you’re feeling inspired and a little bit entrepreneurial then you’ll enjoy reading Sarah Al Hashemi’s story. She is on a mission to empower others to start their own fashion brands by offering workshops, both in-person and online as well as a ton of resources to get them started on their journey to financial independence and abundance.

These are just some of the pioneering women of Kuwait who are trailblazing a path for the rest of us to follow. To celebrate all of the women like them, Porsche hosted a Kuwaiti Womens Day event titled “Driven by her Dreams”.

Speaking of driving, The GR Yarris Cup’s second season just ended in a huge success. The Middle East’s first FIA certified racing even that is organized by ALSAYER, saw the Kuwaiti team beating Qatar and taking home the cup. You can read more about the race series in this issue. In our last issue, we featured the beautifully hand-illustrated Map of Kuwait on our cover and in our pages, and it looks like we’re not ready to part with cartography just yet. The Promenade Culture Centre has been offering a series of workshops where they are mapping Hawali. The neighborhood is mostly known for its shopping and business offerings, but it turns out that they’ve uncovered a treasure trove of heritage and culture.

That got us thinking about how beautiful design is timeless and lives on, which is exactly what we saw at the IKEA STOCKHOLM 2025 collection. Inspired by classic Swedish design aesthetics and modern living, the collection is made up of beautiful statement pieces that can bring style into any room and will be loved by generations to come. Discover more about the collection in our pages, this issue.

It’s going to be a long summer, so even if you are traveling, it’s always a good idea to plan a short staycation to break it up a bit. There are so many great hotels that are offering summer packages that will give you the boost you need to keep going! Enjoy the beautiful pool at Waldorf Astoria Kuwait or indulge in a Mediterranean meal at AVA for an instant culinary trip! If you’re craving some beach time, Jumeirah Messilah Beach is offering guests great savings with their Summer Escapes Packages and lots of water and land activities that will keep you and your kids having fun all summer.

Happy reading!

OH G! ICE CREAM, FROM PASSION PROJECT TO CULT FAVORITE

How Ghalia Hayat Scooped Her Way Into Kuwait’s Dessert Scene

For Ghalia Hayat, ice cream isn’t just dessert—it’s devotion. The film major-turned-entrepreneur behind OH G! has built a cult following in Kuwait by doing what she does best: making the kind of ice cream she wants to eat. And she’s got the community to prove she’s not alone.

Though she studied film in San Francisco and works full-time as the general manager of a major cinema chain in Kuwait, Ghalia’s creative instincts found a new outlet in the kitchen. “I don’t like any desserts except ice cream,” she says. “So when I moved back home, I started looking for ice cream I actually wanted to eat.” The options felt too sweet, too artificial, too generic. So, she did what any self-respecting ice cream obsessive would do—she started making her own.

Armed with cookbooks, Ghalia taught herself the science and craft of American-style super premium ice cream. That means high fat content for velvety richness, minimal air for dense texture, and no preservatives, additives, or artificial flavorings. “We use as many local ingredients as possible,” she says. “If we say it’s strawberry, it’s because we’re using real strawberries.”

At first, OH G! was a one-woman show. Ghalia made ice cream at home, shared it with friends and family, and brought pints to gatherings. The feedback was instant—and enthusiastic. “People would call me the next day, asking for more. Eventually, a friend who was opening a Japanese restaurant asked me to create a fresh yuzu ice cream for their menu. That’s when it went from a hobby to business.”

She opened a central kitchen to handle restaurant orders and delivery, all while juggling her full-time job in cinema. “That first year was a huge boom,” she remembers. “But then it dipped. I realized I wasn’t giving the business the time and attention it needed.” So, in classic entrepreneurial fashion, she doubled down. A year and a half ago, she opened OH G!’s first dine-in location.

The storefront changed everything. OH G! quickly became more than just a place to grab a scoop. It became a space for flavor experimentation and community. “People started looking forward to our limited editions. We’d introduce a new flavor every few weeks, then retire it, keep the excitement going.”

Some flavors were instant hits. “Yuzu was supposed to be limited,” she laughs, “but it became one of our staples. It’s the perfect mix of tart and sweet.” Others, like her goat cheese with candied walnuts, were critical

favorites but eventually gave way to more mainstream crowd-pleasers like chocolate and salted caramel. “People will always come back for our core flavors.”

What sets Ghalia’s journey apart is her fearless, self-taught approach to business. “I don’t think too much before I do something,” she admits. “That’s both a strength and a weakness.” She had no formal training in food science or business, but what she lacked in credentials, she made up for in curiosity, hustle, and support.

“My friends and family are my biggest support system. They’ve been my taste-testers, my marketers, my voice of reason when a flavor wasn’t working.” A tight-knit group—her parents, siblings, and a few close friends—make up her informal flavor board. “We all have different palates. If they all agree on a flavor, I know it’s a winner.”

Ghalia also credits other Kuwaiti women entrepreneurs for encouraging her leap into the food world. The women in the family are bold when it comes to business. Ghalia’s mother founded Inspire, Kuwait’s first luxury gym, and showed her that she could build her own mini empire. “My cousin, Bibi Hayat, is an entrepreneur and wedding planner who also owns cafés and restaurants. Seeing her build something from scratch gave me a model to follow,” she says. “Women like Mariam from Tampopo, who I consider a good friend, also made a big difference. I don’t think I would have opened OH G! without her.” She understands that we need to support others for everyone to succeed. “Women can be misconstrued as jealous or negative or, but what I’ve seen is that the woman who actually makes it, succeeds, and has put in the effort, wants to teach others,” she explains.

Far from competition, Ghalia sees Kuwait’s growing number of foodie entrepreneurs as a movement of mutual support. “When you’re just getting started, you’re looking around and you’re a bit insecure. I felt that there were copycats in the space. I quickly shifted from that mindset. Because I know that when you are risking it all to start a business, you could have been copying or being inspired by someone else without knowing,” she goes on. Now whenever someone asks for help or advice, she jumps right into the kitchen and helps out. “Let me share the knowledge that I’ve accumulated because it could help you. Helping others is not going to hurt my business,” Ghalia affirms.

This has been a journey of personal growth for Ghalia, not just an entrepreneurial one. “I have become more patient and have learned how to manage my stress. At the beginning everything was the end of the world. Now, I know it’s not, I know I can figure it out” she laughs. She has learned to take things as they come instead of stressing too much about the future, but she is excited about growing OH G! We will be getting a new location in Khiran this summer and hopefully another in the city soon.

OH G! isn’t just an ice cream brand—it’s the delicious result of creative passion, community energy, and a woman who followed her cravings all the way to the deep freezer. And if her story tells us anything, it’s that sometimes the best business plans start with a spoon and a dream.

ECO-FRIENDLY LIVING

Simple steps toward a greener lifestyle

Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. As awareness about environmental issues grows, many people in Kuwait are looking for ways to live a little greener. The good news? It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Small everyday changes can make a big difference, especially when adopted by a community.

Reusable is the New Normal

One of the simplest shifts you can make is swapping disposable items for reusable alternatives. Reusable shopping bags, stainless steel water bottles, and cloth produce bags are now widely available across Kuwait. Many local supermarkets encourage bringing your own bags, and some cafes even offer discounts for customers who bring reusable cups.

Filter, Don’t Buy

Plastic bottle waste is a huge issue, but Kuwaitis are finding smart solutions. Home water filters and refillable dispensers are growing in popularity, offering a cleaner and greener alternative to endless packs of bottled water. Some eco-friendly companies even offer subscription services for regular maintenance, making the transition easy.

Thrift Shopping on the Rise

Fast fashion may still dominate, but there’s a growing movement toward sustainable shopping in Kuwait. Thrift stores, vintage boutiques, and second-hand pop-up markets are attracting fashion lovers who want unique finds without the environmental guilt. Social media pages dedicated to selling pre-loved items are also booming.

Supporting Eco-Conscious Businesses

More Kuwaiti entrepreneurs are making sustainability a priority. From recycled packaging to eco-friendly cleaning products, there are plenty of options for those who want to make more mindful purchases. By supporting these businesses, you’re helping to build a greener economy right here at home.

The Green Future Starts Now

Eco-friendly living is not about perfection—it’s about progress. Kuwait’s community is waking up to the fact that even small changes can lead to a big impact. Together, every reusable bag, every thrifted find, and every eco-conscious choice paves the way for a cleaner, greener future.

A CULTURAL AWAKENING

The Spirit of Kuwait Sets the Stage for a Historic Musical Experience

We just stepped into a world where tradition and imagination merged, and the past danced with the present. The Spirit of Kuwait was not just a show—it was a stirring celebration of the nation’s cultural heartbeat. This groundbreaking musical experience elevated Kuwait’s treasured folk heritage, blending timeless melodies with sweeping orchestral arrangements and modern flair. From the first note to the final bow, it was a sensory journey that honored the soul of Kuwait through music, memory, and magic.

The Spirit of Kuwait, produced by AlRai Entertainment and Kaif Productions, premiered at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre (JACC) on May 28, with an additional performances on May 29. The show was a musical tribute to Kuwait’s heritage; reviving beloved folk melodies and reimagining them through grand orchestral compositions, modern arrangements, and the evocative use of authentic Kuwaiti instruments.

Audiences raved about the beauty and grace of the performance, that transported them to a world that was equally nostalgic and future-embracing. It can be a challenge to create art that honors the past that can still feel modern and of the moment. The team behind The Spirit of Kuwait showed us

that not only is it possible, it is also riveting. While embracing contemporary elements, the production remained deeply rooted in the country’s rich cultural and historical legacy. The Spirit of Kuwait showcased the vibrant rhythms of Kuwaiti folklore, including Samri, Sout, Khumari, and Singeeni. Presented in a captivating blend of visuals and music, the performance incorporates traditional Kuwaiti instruments such as the Manjour, Sarnai, Yahla, Merwas, Hawan, Tar, Bahri drum, and Munjeb, seamlessly blended into a grand orchestral arrangement. Newly composed pieces by celebrated Yemeni composer and conductor Mohamed Al-ghoom will further reflect Kuwait’s rich musical heritage.

The orchestra—comprising more than 70 participants and blending traditional Kuwaiti and classical orchestral instruments—was conducted by maestro Dr Ahmed Al-Oud. Cutting-edge visual and sound effects will elevate the production, with vocals by celebrated singer Salman Al-Amari and rising talent Abdulaziz Al-Misbah. Talented musicians, namely, Faisal Shah, Abdullatif Ghazi, and the Almass band, contributed to the richness and authenticity of the soundscape.

Costume design was led by Farah Albabtain (Muhra), whose modern interpretations of traditional attire bring a visual poetry to the stage, while choreography by Briza Alroumi added rhythm and storytelling to the performances through

stylized Kuwaiti dance. The show also celebrates a wider creative community with contributions from visual artist Mariam Al Salem, whose artwork, centered around the theme of Kuwait, adorned the walls of JACC, for a pre-show art gallery experience.

The Spirit of Kuwait was further supported by a strong network of partners, including Dar Hamad, AUM, Al Saffat, BYD Alghanim and Muhra, each playing a vital role in bringing this cultural experience to life.

What set The Spirit of Kuwait apart was not just its sonic ambition, but its storytelling. Through a seamless blend of music, movement, and visual narrative, the show captures the rhythm of a nation, the sea, the land, the people, and the pulse of a rich, evolving identity.

More than a performance, The Spirit of Kuwait was a powerful reminder of where we came from— and where we were headed. It bridged generations through sound, uniting old and new in a symphony of national pride. Whether audience members grew up with these songs or were hearing them for the first time, the show left them with goosebumps and a deeper appreciation for the richness of Kuwaiti culture. It was an unforgettable tribute to the spirit that continues to shape the nation.

BEYOND THE HUSTLE

Finding Authenticity and Peace in a World Obsessed with More

In today’s fast-paced culture, success is often measured by numbers — how much money we make, how many goals we tick off, how many likes and followers we gain. The relentless pursuit of more can feel like a race with no finish line. And for many, this race creates a hunger that’s never truly satisfied.

Money is essential, yes. It gives us security, access, and choice. But when money becomes the only measure of our worth or the mask we wear to cover insecurities, it can lead to something far more damaging: constant stress, anxiety, and a disconnect from what really matters.

We forget to be — to pause and enjoy the moments we’re in, to breathe deeply, to feel gratitude for the little things. Instead, we focus on what’s next, always looking ahead, often overwhelmed by the pressure to keep climbing.

This is where many of us get stuck.

The Hunger Behind the Hustle

The hunger for money and success often pushes us into survival mode. We hustle harder, skip breaks, and sacrifice our wellbeing for a future we hope will bring peace and happiness. But what if that peace isn’t just “out there” somewhere? What if it begins with something simpler — a shift in awareness?

Money, unchecked, can become a tool to cover insecurities — a mask of power we wear to feel worthy or in control. But masks don’t bring true confidence or joy. They only deepen the disconnect between who we are and who we want to be.

Gratitude: The Antidote to Stress

One of the most profound ways to break this cycle is through gratitude — a practice that rewires our brain from scarcity to abundance. Gratitude isn’t just a feel-good exercise; it’s a foundational tool for mental wellbeing and authentic living.

By focusing on what we have instead of what we lack, we soften the grip of stress and create space for fulfillment right now — not sometime in the future.

Practical Tools to Cultivate Presence and Fulfillment

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the endless chase for more, here are three practical tools to help you reconnect with yourself and find satisfaction beyond numbers and goals:

1. Daily Gratitude Journaling

Start or end your day by writing down three things you’re grateful for. These don’t have to be big moments — a warm cup of coffee, a kind word, a breath of fresh air. This simple habit shifts your focus toward abundance and makes daily life feel richer.

2. Pause and Breathe

Set small reminders during your day to pause for 2 minutes. Close your eyes, take deep, grounding breaths, and feel your body settle into the present moment. This practice reduces stress and builds emotional resilience over time.

3. Reflect on What Truly Matters

Once a week, journal on reflective questions such as:

• What made me feel alive or connected this week?

• When did I feel most authentic or true to myself?

• How do I define success beyond money and status?

These reflections help you align your actions with your values and deepen your understanding of fulfillment.

Satisfaction

Beyond Success

True satisfaction comes when we shift from constant doing to intentional being. It’s not just

about hitting targets or accumulating wealth — it’s about living a life aligned with who we truly are. When we embrace authenticity and presence, we experience joy, creativity, and purpose. We lead with kindness and confidence, inspiring others not through appearances but through genuine connection.

An Invitation to You

If you feel caught in the cycle of chasing more and want to explore a path of authenticity and wellbeing, you’re not alone. Together, we can step off the treadmill and create a life and career that honor your true self — full of balance, peace, and meaningful success.

Let’s start the conversation.

REEMI’S CANDLES

Where Wax Meets Emotion

When you meet Reem, you might hear her introduce herself simply: “I’m Reem.” But mention candles, and she transforms— “Then I’m Reemi’s. Some even call me the candle lady,” she laughs. It’s a fitting title for someone whose wax creations have quietly lit up Kuwait’s artisan scene.

What started as a way to unwind from the intensity of a 14-year career in marketing has grown into something much more soulful. “I was craving a creative outlet—something tactile and grounding,” Reem explains. That longing took her back to her childhood, when arts and crafts were her world. Candle-making, once a hobby, found its way back to her hands—and heart.

Her transition from corporate to creative came with challenges. “Letting go of structure and control was the hardest part,” she shares. “In marketing, there’s a strategy, a brief, a defined path with measurable results. Candle-making is full of emotion and fluidity.”

That emotion is evident in each of her sculptural, non-toxic candles. Reemi’s creations aren’t just pretty objects—they’re stories in wax. “Some candles are born from excitement—trying a new shape or scent. Others are me processing something deeper,” she says. “They’re quiet expressions of moments in time.”

Those expressions are shaped by a mix of influences: art, nature, and the imperfection of everyday life. “I’m drawn to organic forms—soft, fluid, imperfect. I want each candle to speak to your senses and your feelings,” she says. Many of her designs are poured in molds made of Jesmonite, a non-toxic material that gives her candles a handcrafted concrete feel. Even the containers are part of her sustainable philosophy.

“I keep packaging minimal and reusable. I pour in small batches to avoid waste. Every decision is guided by mindfulness.”

For Reem, clean ingredients are nonnegotiable. “What we burn in our homes matters,” she explains. “I didn’t want to create something beautiful that compromises health. Soy wax, beeswax, and coconut wax are clean-burning. Each serves a purpose.”

Stepping into her studio—her “cute little space close to home”—you’d find a calming environment filled with scent, texture, and creativity. It’s an evolving space, fine-tuned to her process. “Currently, lighting is my issue,” she jokes. “But it’s my sanctuary. I designed it based on what I need to make candle-making joyful and productive.”

One of her most meaningful creations is a candle called A Party of Four—a sculpted piece featuring four abstract faces. “It reminds me of my mother,” she says, her voice softening. “She used to paint faces just like these. When I found the mold, I knew I had to make it. It’s a quiet tribute to her. And what’s beautiful is that it’s one of my bestsellers. I think people feel the emotion behind it, even if they don’t know the story.”

Reem taught herself the craft through books, online tutorials, and endless trial and error. “Candle-making takes a surprising amount of precision,” she notes. “You’re balancing

temperature, fragrance ratios, the shape of the mold—it’s science and art. I learned to be patient. Some of the most beautiful pieces happen by mistake.”

While many small businesses chase growth through aggressive marketing, Reem has opted for a slower, more organic approach. “Consistency, authenticity, and quality—that’s what I focus on. Word of mouth has been huge. People connect with intention,” she says. She’s also built community through local markets, conversations, and resharing customer photos. “It’s not about going viral for a moment. I want to build something that lasts.”

And where is it all going? “I’d love to eventually open a studio space where people can come, create, or just chill. A place where you want to stop by to pick up a gift, make a candle, or hang out. That’s my dream,” she says, beaming.

Until then, Reem will keep crafting stories in wax, one mold at a time. Her advice to anyone hoping to turn a passion into a business? “Start small, but start. Don’t wait for perfection. Protect the joy that brought you to your passion—that’s your compass.”

As her candles flicker in homes across Kuwait, it’s clear that Reemi’s isn’t just about fragrance or form. It’s about feeling. And in each softly glowing flame, Reem is telling a story—one that smells like home, looks like art, and feels like peace.

STARTING WRITE

5-Minute

Journaling for a Better Day

In a fast-paced world where schedules are packed and stress levels run high, finding time for mental clarity can feel impossible Enter 5-minute journaling: a simple, quick habit that’s transforming mornings, boosting mental health, and helping people achieve their goals.

What Is 5-Minute Journaling?

The idea is beautifully simple. Spend just five minutes a day putting pen to paper. You don’t need to write pages of prose; a few focused prompts can set the tone for a better day. Common sections in a 5-minute journal include:

Gratitude: List 2-3 things you’re thankful for.

Daily Intentions: Write down what would make today great.

Affirmations: A positive “I am” statement to build confidence.

Reflection: At night, a quick recap of what went well and what could be improved.

Why It Works

5-minute journaling taps into the power of intention and reflection. Studies have shown that gratitude practices can boost happiness, reduce anxiety, and improve sleep quality. Meanwhile, setting intentions increases focus and productivity.

In Kuwait, where the balancing act between traditional values, modern careers, and social commitments can be overwhelming, taking a moment for selfconnection can be transformative. Whether you’re a university student juggling exams or a busy professional navigating a hectic workweek, 5-minute journaling offers a quick reset.

Benefits of 5-Minute Journaling

Improved Mood: Focusing on gratitude and positivity primes your brain to notice the good in your day.

Better Goal Setting: Writing your daily goals makes you more likely to accomplish them.

Reduced Stress: Emptying your mind onto paper can lessen feelings of anxiety.

Increased Mindfulness: Reflecting daily builds awareness of habits, thoughts, and emotions.

How to Start

Pick a Journal: Any notebook will do, but some prefer journals with prompts to make things even easier.

Choose Your Time: Many people journal first thing in the morning and again before bed, but any fiveminute window will work.

Keep It Simple: Don’t worry about grammar or spelling. Focus on honesty.

Prompts to Get You Started

Morning:

Today I am grateful for... Today would be great if I... I am...

Evening:

A COLLECTION TODAY. COLLECTABLES TOMORROW.

IKEA® LAUNCHES NEW EDITION OF THE ICONIC STOCKHOLM COLLECTION IN KUWAIT

IKEA Kuwait, the leader for life at home, launched the new edition of STOCKHOLM collection in an exclusive event at IKEA The Warehouse. Celebrating 40 years, STOCKHOLM debuts its largest collection, with 96 thoughtfully designed pieces reflecting a signature mark of high-quality materials and Scandinavian design, from statement sofas and handwoven wool rugs to chandeliers and mouth-blown glass vases.

The STOCKHOLM collection has evolved through eight distinct editions, each unique but sharing the same defining characteristic: modern Scandinavian design of the highest quality, offered at an affordable price.

Key IKEA partners, loyal customers, media, and local influencers gathered to discover this iconic collection. In welcoming them, Marino Maganto; IKEA CEO for Kuwait, Jordan and Morocco said: “We are happy to welcome you today at IKEA The Warehouse to celebrate the launch of the latest edition of the STOCKHOLM collection. It is especially meaningful to gather in one of our newest and largest customer meeting points in Kuwait for a collection that continues to inspire, even 40 years after its first launch. STOCKHOLM truly represents the best of IKEA: timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and a deep love for life at home.”

The inspiring STOCKHOLM 2025 Exhibit will be on display at IKEA The Warehouse in Sabahiya until the end of June. IKEA invites everyone in Kuwait to visit and experience the beauty of timeless Scandinavian craftsmanship up close.

In its latest and largest iteration, the collection offers a diverse range of furniture, textiles, lighting, and accessories across the home. Materials take center stage - carefully chosen for their quality and how they age and interact with one another. Solid woods paired with tactile surfaces and natural fibers, linen, and leather, combine to create unique expressions in sturdy wood furniture, handwoven wool rugs, mouth-blown glass, and handcrafted rattan pieces. The collection also includes two glass chandeliers with a retro feel, accompanied by white gloves to wear during assembly.

“The purpose of the STOCKHOLM collections has always been to prove that high quality doesn’t need to come at an intimidating cost. STOCKHOLM is a no-compromise collection, where every piece tells a story. Craftsmanship is at the heart of the collection where traditional techniques and hands-on methods have resulted in durable and beautiful design pieces that stand the test of time,” explained Maganto. “Now in Kuwait, we are excited to help our customers create relevant solutions, designed to last, made to fit the way they live and ages beautifully. It is a collection today, collectables tomorrow.”

Speaking more on this iconic collection, Rana Hassan, Interior Design Specialist at IKEA Kuwait said,“I believe the STOCKHOLM collection fits perfectly

Marino Maganto, IKEA CEO for Kuwait, Jordan and Morocco

with the Kuwaiti style. The sofa is designed to be the centerpiece of the collection, and I think it will become a favorite in many Kuwaiti homes. It’s modular, so you can make it as large as you like and rearrange it however you prefer. What makes this collection truly special is that each piece stands out on its own as a statement, yet they all come together beautifully as a whole. The colors are inspired by nature: Blues that reflect the water and earthy tones that represent the rich landscape around us.”

Three passionate designers with different but complementary form languages together create a collection that is cohesive, while ensuring unique pieces that shine on their own. True to its namesake, the inspiration is deeply rooted in the city of Stockholm, reflecting both the urban and natural landscape surrounding the city. Rich earth tones play against natural woods, and textiles reflect scenes and colors from nature.

STOCKHOLM 2025 – Through the eyes of the designers behind it

Two distinctly different sofas were first designed as centerpieces to guide the collection as a whole. Designer Ola Wihlborg’s wide modular sofa, offered in four colors including a deep turquoise velvet, was born

from his frustration with sofas that constantly need the cushions fluffed. He said, “I wanted to create a high-quality sofa that maintains its shape and looks the same even after you stand up from sitting in it. Something that prioritizes comfort without needing extra pillows.” After developing over 30 prototypes to find the perfect shape for everyday comfort, the result is a sleek, generous sofa with modules that can be used on their own as well as connected to create the desired length.

The second sofa, designed by Nike Karlsson with a solid pine wood frame and white cushions, serves as an exploration into design without foam. Made from natural materials, the sofa uses woven fabric, natural latex, and coconut fiber, delivering a sofa with exceptional comfort and timeless appeal.

Rattan was a focal point of STOCKHOLM 2017, and Nike’s iconic rattan cabinet became a sought-after favorite. In the new collection, Nike introduces a slidingdoor cabinet featuring a surface woven from rattan fibers, tied, bent and shaped by hand. Rattan is also used in the backrest of one of the dining chairs, while the lounge chair is built around a robust rattan frame and topped with a deep cushion in a light Bouclé.

“You’d think with the name STOCKHOLM, the pieces would have a big city feeling, but we went outside the urban setting, to the nature and islands around it. This allowed us to lean into the Scandinavian materials, including working with a Swedish pine supplier to source the highest-quality pine. People often think of pine as a budget material, but when you go for the best and apply smart, efficient design techniques, its beauty is undeniable,” said Nike Karlsson.

The raw nature of the materials shines throughout the collection, where chairs, bookshelves, and dining tables showcase detailed craftsmanship and smart construction—achieving sleek, clean designs that remain strong and durable. The bentwood chairs are crafted using a traditional technique where the beech wood is soaked and carefully bent by hand to form soft, rounded arches in arms and back.

The forest is a central character in Textile Designer Paulin Machado’s designs, including lampshades that are adorned in leaf and mushroom prints and color combinations pulled directly from the Scandinavian seasons. Handwoven by master weavers, her collection of 100% wool rugs brings nature inside, with woven birch tree patterns, available in shades of green as well as a gray scale, in black and white. Merino wool blankets and pillowcases in multi-colored patterns add pops of drama. As Paulin put it, “Nature is the best designer - every color matches beautifully in the natural world and you can see how we have tried to capture the hues of Sweden’s seasonal shifts.”

For dining, the collection offers tableware in ceramic and porcelain, including glazed stone plates and bowls, and a series of glasses. A selection of large vases stands out as beautiful centerpieces, with two mouthblown and one ceramic black amorph, so each one carries its own character. Visit the STOCKHOLM 2025 Exhibit at IKEA The Warehouse (Sabahiya) now through the end of June. Explore and shop the collection at IKEA The Avenues, IKEA The Warehouse, IKEA 360, IKEA The Assima Mall, or online at www.IKEA.com.kw. TRADITIONAL KUWAITI CRAFTS MAKING A COMEBACK

How young creatives are breathing new life into ancient traditions

Kuwait’s skyline might be filled with gleaming towers, but its soul remains deeply rooted in centuries of craftsmanship. Today, traditional arts like Sadu weaving, pottery, and dhow building are experiencing a quiet revival, thanks to young artisans determined to keep these cultural treasures alive.

The Art of Sadu Weaving

Recognized by UNESCO as part of humanity’s intangible heritage, Sadu weaving is a Bedouin art form known for its intricate geometric patterns and deep symbolism. Once essential for crafting tents and camel saddles, Sadu weaving today is being reinterpreted into wall art, fashion, and home decor by a new generation of Kuwaiti creatives. Workshops like those at the Sadu House in Kuwait City are helping preserve these skills while modernizing their applications.

Pottery: An Ancient Craft Reimagined

Pottery has always been a staple of Kuwaiti daily life—from simple water jugs to decorative tiles. Today’s potters are blending traditional techniques with contemporary designs, creating pieces that are both functional and artistic. Local pottery classes are increasingly popular, allowing newcomers to get their hands dirty while connecting with Kuwait’s rich past.

The Legacy of Dhow Building

Long before oil shaped the economy, Kuwait’s fortune was tied to the sea. The dhow, a traditional wooden sailing vessel, was key to trade and pearling. Although few dhows are built today, skilled craftsmen continue to pass down the techniques, and dhow replicas are displayed proudly along Kuwait’s coastline. Some cultural centers even offer tours that explain the dhow’s historical importance.

A New Generation of Artisans

What’s exciting is how young Kuwaitis are making these crafts relevant again. By mixing traditional methods with contemporary tastes, they are creating products that honor their roots while appealing to modern sensibilities. In a fast-paced world, these crafts remind us of the beauty of patience, skill, and storytelling—values worth holding onto.

IN A WARMING WORLD, MECCA COOLS DOWN

Saudi Arabia Expands ‘White Road’ Project as temperatures soar, building heat-reflective roads and soft walkways that offer critical relief for millions during the Hajj

In a wonderful example of sustainable and human-centered engineering, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Roads General Authority, launched the cooled pedestrian walkway project in Mecca, which will enhance accessibility services for individuals with disabilities.

According to the Roads General Authority, the cooled roads initiative has expanded by 82%, building on its initial success since its launch in 2023. More than 84,000 square metres of roads in Arafat have now been paved using locally sourced recycled materials designed to reduce heat absorption from sunlight. These materials lower surface temperatures by approximately 12°C and reflect 30–40% more sunlight during the morning hours, helping to mitigate urban heat islands and providing a more comfortable environment for pilgrims while reducing energy consumption and air pollution.

Furthermore, the growth of flexible rubber roads increased by 33%. These surfaces aim to soften asphalt in pedestrian areas, offering particular advantages to older adults. The newly laid section extends from Namira Mosque to Arafat Train Station, raising the overall flexible pavement area to 16,000 square meters. Research conducted by the Road Research Centre has validated the improved comfort and safety of this advanced rubberised asphalt.

The new initiatives feature a green corridor project along the adaptable route, featuring trees planted over 1,200 meters from Namira Mosque to the train station. To enhance air quality and comfort for pilgrims, air-cooling mist systems and water fountains have been installed in collaboration with the Abdulrahman Fakieh Charitable Foundation.

Furthermore, the Minister has introduced an accessibility initiative aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities. This initiative features a 4,000-metre pedestrian path that leads to Mount Arafat, built with cooled paving materials designed to minimise vibrations and enhance mobility for users and their companions.

The Roads General Authority, the national regulator of Saudi Arabia’s Road sector, aims to elevate the quality of roads to rank sixth globally by 2030 and reduce road fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 people. Saudi Arabia currently boasts the world’s leading intercity road connectivity, with a total network exceeding 73,000 kilometers.

H&M SUMMER 2025

Crafted Details & a Sophisticated Boho Feel

This summer, H&M travels from bustling cities to magical deserts and beachside towns, creating the ultimate vacation wardrobe along the way. With an emphasis on crafted details like fringe, crochet, embroidery and embellishment plus airy dresses and kaftans, there’s a sophisticated boho feel throughout. Smart matching sets, bold silhouettes and a play between relaxed and structured shapes add a modern touch.

Inspired by a trip to epic, energetic Marrakech, the womenswear collection features natural fibres, striking embellishments, and innovative knit and crochet techniques that emphasise the power of craftsmanship. Continuing to the isles of Lanzarote and Lamu, Kenya, oversized palm prints, fringe and beading call to mind beachy fun and relaxation. The colour palette ranges from dark, rich earthy tones like terracotta, burgundy and warm browns to sand, bright red, pinky beiges and pops of gold. There’s also a range of greens and yellow that contrast tinted neutrals, sage and white.

“For this collection, it was important for us to bring in rich, textured details because they allowed us to introduce different weaving techniques and highlight a sense of tradition. And in journeying around the world for inspiration, we’ve created elements of a summer wardrobe that celebrate vibrancy – in the print mix, the emphasis on craftsmanship, and the feeling of never ending summer when travelling with friends,” says Eliana Masgalos, Design Director, H&M.

Key pieces include dark brown fringed sleeveless crop top with matching slim midi-skirt, a strapless mini-dress with a black and sand desert-inspired print, and a tiered sleeveless dress in bright red or golden yellow. The range of kaftans include solid-coloured long-sleeved ones with embroidered front, widesleeved, voluminous versions in geometric prints, and a completely knitted one. Swimwear, shoes and bags also bring in elements of craftsmanship, like jewellery-like embellishment, fringe and tassels. The jewellery is ocean-inspired with shells, coral and underwater creatures the main motifs.

For menswear, Mediterranean summers inspire a zipped structured knit, structured jersey polo, pleated linen trousers and short-sleeve shirts, combining soft tailoring and breezy comfort. The colour palette is refined with off-white, beige, brown and summer burgundy, evoking sunlit escapes and coastal charm.

“There’s a subtle retro feel to the menswear this season that’s equal parts laidback and smart. With breathable fabrics and tailored silhouettes, each piece has a versatility that makes them essential to any wardrobe”, says Andreas Löwenstam, General Direction Menswear at H&M.

In kidswear, playful tropical motifs, textured stripes and crafted details like fringe and embroidery call to mind exotic beaches. Matching sets, resort shirts, A-line skirts, roomy dresses, shorts and

camisoles in loose silhouettes come in white, light sand, clay, terracotta and brown with pops of fuchsia and green.

“Summertime always evokes a sense of fun and freedom for kids, which we brought through in the designs. So patterns and textures play a big role, as so relaxed shapes and a

of bright colours”, says Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design and Creative at H&M.

The H&M Summer 2025 first drop is available in selected stores and online with prices starting from KWD 8.99.

HAWALLY DREAMING

How The Promenade Culture Centre is preserving the past and reimagining the future

For many, Hawally is seen as just another busy district in Kuwait—a densely built, concrete sprawl with a reputation for being practical but not particularly picturesque. But to the Promenade Culture Centre, it’s so much more. Nestled behind the shiny façade of the capital city lies a rich tapestry of history, architecture, and community spirit. And over the past few years, The Promenade Culture Centre has been dedicated to reintroducing the city’s hidden stories to its residents through a series of workshops and projects centered on architectural exploration, urban storytelling, and cultural heritage.

Back in 2019, Community was formally recognized as a strategic pillar for The Promenade Culture Centre. This initiative was rooted in a desire to support diversity, enhance cultural life, and respond to the needs of the community. With a unique position at the intersection of heritage and modernity—home to Beit Othman, Al Othman Mosque, and The Promenade Culture Centre itself— the centre has naturally evolved into a research and resource hub, advocating for the preservation of Hawally’s overlooked urban gems.

It all began with a simple but ambitious idea: to highlight the beautiful buildings and spaces in Hawally that often go unnoticed. The team launched the “Hawally Map” project in collaboration with Innarative, an exploratory platform founded by architects Mishari Al Najjar and Sara Abdulla. Together, they developed workshops that blend architecture, storytelling, and design to document and celebrate the city’s physical and emotional landscapes.

In February 2022, Hawally Bound brought together participants from various backgrounds for a threeweek workshop that explored historic routes and landmarks in the city. It was more than just a tour— it was a hands-on experience where participants analyzed spaces, mapped routes, and even created block prints of their favorite architectural elements. The workshop culminated in a beautiful tapestry—a collaborative collage showcasing their research— exhibited at The Promenade Mall. The installation invited the public to share their own memories of Hawally, transforming observation into conversation.

The momentum continued with Hawally Kitsch, a workshop held in December 2023 that focused on the iconic Al Othman Centre, designed by Polish architect Wojciech Jarząbek. Often referred to as the king of “Kitsch Architecture,” Jarząbek’s bold and unconventional style provided the perfect case study. Participants explored the building’s vibrant aesthetics, documented their observations, and created a collage of printed architectural elements that paid homage to the Centre’s unique charm and lasting impact.

Hawally Dreaming in May 2024 turned its lens on the South and North Nugra complexes—structures significant for their cultural and architectural relevance. But rather than starting with facts, participants were first invited to “dream” the buildings through experiential diagramming. Only later were they introduced to the real structures, allowing them to reconcile imagination with reality through block printing and storytelling. The result: two new tapestries that captured both the dreamed and the manifested city, forming a trilogy with Hawally Bound and Hawally Kitsch.

Many of us who grew up in Kuwait understand the cultural importance of Al Rihab Complex. Participants of that workshop, explored the intersection of architecture and narrative through both literal and experiential mapping of the Al Rihab Complex and

examined the building’s diverse realities—lighting retail, gaming/electronics, and residential spaces— each offering distinct experiences. The workshop blended creative writing with illustrative techniques and resulted in uniquely crafted narratives and visual maps that reflected the participants’ personal journeys through the building which helped show them how architecture is more than just a structure, but a host of coexisting yet separate realities.

Most recently, Innarative instructors led participants on a guided visit to the Hasawi complex in Hawally—an iconic residential development designed by renowned Iraqi architect Rifat Chadirji, located at the corner of Muthana and Tunis Streets. The visit, which took place in April, was guided by Mishari Al Najjar and focused on encouraging participants to observe and engage with the site’s architectural layers.

During the tour, participants were invited to take their time exploring the building, considering its history, present function, and future potential. The inner courtyards revealed a surprisingly serene atmosphere, with pockets of greenery and shaded areas designed for rest and reflection. Though modern in style, the architecture draws heavily from traditional forms, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

Participants were also encouraged to photograph not just the tranquil inner spaces, but the more chaotic, commercial edges of the complex. The contrast was striking—while the interior conveyed a sense of peaceful living, the building’s outer facades along Tunis Street had been overtaken by vibrant signage and busy storefronts, reflecting the pressures of a constantly evolving urban environment.

The purpose of the visit was to foster a deeper understanding of architectural transformation.

Participants were tasked with documenting the building’s evolution and imagining its future possibilities through creative mediums like illustration, collage, and block printing. These visual interpretations were not just exercises in creativity— they formed part of a broader effort to cultivate architectural awareness and preserve the cultural identity of Hawally through active observation and artistic engagement.

Each workshop not only brings people together, but also builds a living archive of Hawally’s past and present. These workshops aren’t just about architecture—they’re about people, memory, and placemaking. They create space for oral histories, shared experiences, and reimaginings of public spaces.

As The Promenade Culture Centre continues to grow this collection of tapestries and stories, its mission remains clear: to document, celebrate, and preserve Hawally as more than a backdrop, but as a city full of life, history, and possibility.

STRETCH!

Simple Stretches to Wake Up Your Body

Imagine starting your day with more energy, less stiffness, and a clear mind. You don’t need an intense workout to achieve this — just a few minutes of gentle stretching can make a world of difference. Especially in Kuwait, where fast-paced lifestyles and desk jobs are common, integrating simple stretches into your morning can be a game changer.

Why Morning Stretching Matters

After hours of sleep, your muscles are relaxed and your circulation is slower. Stretching helps:

• Increase blood flow to muscles and brain.

• Improve posture and reduce aches, especially if you’re sitting most of the day.

• Enhance flexibility over time.

• Set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Stretching is also a form of self-care. Those few quiet minutes can serve as a mental check-in before the hustle begins.

Simple Stretches to Start With

1 Neck Rolls

• Slowly tilt your head from side to side, then forward and back. Finish with gentle circles in each direction.

2. Shoulder Shrugs and Rolls

• Lift your shoulders towards your ears, then roll them back and down. Repeat several times to release tension.

3. Standing Forward Bend

• Stand with feet hip-width apart, hinge at your hips, and fold forward, letting your head and arms hang.

Slightly bend your knees if needed.

4 Cat-Cow Stretch

On all fours, alternate between arching your back (cat) and dipping it toward the floor (cow). This is great for spine mobility.

5. Seated Spinal Twist

Sit on the floor or a chair. Place your right hand on your left knee and gently twist to the left. Hold, then switch sides.

6. Standing Side Stretch

Reach your arms overhead, clasp your hands, and lean gently to one side. Stretch your torso and breathe deeply.

Tips for Success

• Breathe deeply during each stretch.

• Move slowly and mindfully — no need to rush.

• Listen to your body — never force a stretch.

• Consistency is key — even 5 minutes daily makes a difference.

If you’re interested in going deeper into stretching routines, many gyms and wellness centers in Kuwait — like Inspire Pure Fitness, Spark Athletic Center, and the yoga programs at all of the different studios — offer classes that integrate stretching and mobility exercises.

Starting your morning with a few simple stretches isn’t just good for your body; it’s a gift to your mind and spirit as well. In a world that moves fast, taking even a few minutes to reconnect with your body can set the tone for a more energized, mindful, and productive day.

So tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone or rush out the door, try a few stretches. Your body — and your mood — will thank you.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MEDICINE

A Conversation with Dr. Hasan Khaja, Consultant of Neurosurgery

From a young age, Dr. Hasan Khaja knew he wanted to do more than just follow the crowd. While other children dressed up as pilots and police officers, he had something different in mind. “I told my teacher I wanted to be a neurologist,” he recalls. “Even though at the time, in the ‘70s, it was such an unfamiliar word in Kuwait.”

That quiet ambition turned into a lifelong mission. Today, Dr. Khaja is one of Kuwait’s leading neurosurgeons. His story is a mix of academic excellence, national pride, and a deep sense of humanitarian responsibility.

As the youngest in his family, Dr. Khaja grew up with strong values of kindness and service. His love for science and his desire to help others guided him towards medicine. “When I got the highest grades in the College of Medicine,” he says, “His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah honored me with the Gold Star Medal. That meant so much to me.”

But for Dr. Khaja, studying medicine wasn’t just about personal achievement. It was about filling a gap. “There just weren’t enough specialists in neurosurgery here,” he explains. “I felt it was a national and humanitarian duty to pursue this field and bring that expertise back to Kuwait.”

In 1999, Dr. Khaja was accepted into the prestigious neurosurgery program at Uppsala University in Sweden—an elite program that accepted just one student per year. He spent five intensive years specializing in cranial and spinal surgery. There, he trained in cuttingedge techniques in trauma care and emergency transport, which he later helped integrate into Kuwait’s healthcare system.

Dr. Khaja’s work isn’t just in the operating room. He’s also passionate about public education, especially when it comes to head injuries in children and the elderly.

“Head trauma in these two age groups is especially dangerous,” he explains. “Because of the way the brain adapts in young children and older adults, symptoms don’t always show immediately. A child might hit their head, seem fine, and go to sleep—only to fall into a coma hours later.”

He urges both families and physicians to take every head injury seriously. “Even if the child or elderly person seems fine—smiling, laughing—it’s better to run a CT scan. It could save a life.”

Classic signs that require immediate attention include bruising around the eyes (known as “raccoon eyes”), bleeding from the ear, or dizziness, vomiting, and severe headaches. In many cases, early scans and quick intervention prevent long-term brain damage or death.

As a consultant neurosurgeon, Dr. Khaja sees hundreds of patients suffering from neck and back pain. He says the majority—up to 90%—are due to muscle strain, often caused by bad posture, poor sleep habits, or spending too much time on devices.

But he cautions against dismissing more serious causes like herniated discs, nerve compression, or osteoarthritis. “We use MRIs and nerve conduction studies to determine whether a patient’s pain is muscular or neurological,” he says. “A herniated disc can cause numbness, weakness, or even loss of function in the hands or legs.”

In more serious cases, surgery may be the only option. “Pain we can manage,” he says, “but if there’s weakness or signs of nerve damage, we act quickly. Delaying surgery can result in irreversible damage to the spinal cord or nerves.”

Another condition Dr. Khaja frequently diagnoses is carpal tunnel syndrome—often mistaken for neck-related issues. “It’s important to distinguish between pain coming from a pinched nerve in the neck versus compression in the wrist,” he explains. “That’s why proper testing is essential.”

Similarly, sciatica—a common complaint—can have multiple causes, ranging from disc problems to muscle spasms or spinal instability. “Each case is different, so diagnosis must be thorough,” he emphasizes.

Dr. Khaja also reminds us of the brain’s incredible complexity and how even small injuries can affect everything from speech to movement to sensory perception.

“The brain is the master control center,” he says. “There’s a specific region for language, for balance, even for sensing temperature or pressure. That’s why we can often diagnose

certain neurological conditions just by observing how a patient walks or talks.”

In cases like facial paralysis or sudden weakness, early diagnosis is key. “Sometimes it’s just a pinched nerve. Sometimes it’s the sign of something much more serious.”

For aspiring doctors, Dr. Khaja has one piece of advice: follow your passion, not the prestige. “Many people told me to choose an easier or more popular specialty, but I chose what I knew Kuwait needed,” he says. “It’s not about being trendy—it’s about being useful.”

That principle has guided him through decades of service to his patients and his country. And he’s not stopping anytime soon.

Whether he’s performing intricate brain surgery, advocating for better trauma care, or educating the public through social media, Dr. Hasan Khaja is committed to a singular vision: putting knowledge to work for the good of others. And in a field where every second counts, his lifelong dedication is exactly what the world needs right now.

You can book an appointment with Dr Hasan Khajah at Taiba Hospital which is located in Sabah Al Salem, off of route 30 on Road 3. Call them 24 hours at 180 80 88. For updates and information, visit the website taibahospital.com, and follow them on Instagram @taibahospital.

BACKBONE PRO

The Backbone Pro is the brand’s highest-end mobile controller to date. It looks similar to its popular One, but is designed to be significantly more versatile and not tied to a single type of smartphone or gaming console. Unlike the One, it supports Bluetooth, allowing it to instantly connect to a USB-C device (like an iPhone or Android) via a wired connection, or wirelessly pair with a Mac, iPad, Apple TV or even Vision Pro. It also has a built-in battery that can last up to 40 hours on a charge.

Polaroid Flip

The Polaroid Flip is a point-and-shoot instant film camera designed for novice photographers. It has a neat retro-inspired design that “flips” open and shut, which protects the lens when traveling with the camera. It also has the most powerful flash of any recent Polaroid film camera, making it ideal for low-light situations.

Meze Audio 105 Silva

The 105 Silva is the newest addition to the Romanian hi-fi maker’s 105 range, combining beautiful design, high-fidelity sound, and modern versatility (thanks to a low impedance, they are easy to drive and you can use them with your smartphone or laptop.) The Silvas are open-back wired headphones with 50mm dynamic drivers and walnut earcups. According to the brand, they marry the sound of Meze’s higher-end 109 PRO with the versatility of its 105 AER.

Aura Aspen

Aura’s Aspen is the company’s middle-sized digital picture frame designed to look like a normal framed photo. Its 12-inch display sits between the company’s 10-inch Carver and 15-inch Walden, but at half an inch thick, it’s also the company’s thinnest digital picture frame to date. It has an anti-glare screen that, thanks to built-in sensors, automatically adjusts its brightness depending on ambient light throughout the day (it even turns off at night).

IsoAcoustics Gaia Neo

The IsoAcoustics Gaia Neo is the brand’s new highend threaded isolation feet that are designed to be screwed into the bottom of your loudspeakers and replace their existing feet. As an updated version of its 2016-released Gaia, the Gaia Neos boasts superior dampening technology and a more adjustable design. They also come in more modern finishes, such as black or dark chrome.

Chipolo Pop

The Chipolo Pop is the company’s most advanced circular Bluetooth tracker. It’s compatible with Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find My Device networks, and comes with a range of upgraded features — such as improved range and water resistance — over the company’s other trackers. It works and is priced very similar to Apple’s AirTags, but comes with a keyring hole and is available in multiple color options.

THE BEWITCHING

In the course of assembling her thesis, Minerva uncovers information that reveals that Tremblay’s most famous novel, The Vanishing, was inspired by a true story: Decades earlier, during the Great Depression, Tremblay attended the same university where Minerva is now studying and became obsessed with her beautiful and otherworldly roommate, who then disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

HEART & HUSTLE

How Sarah Al Hashemi Is Empowering Kuwait’s Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Sarah’s story kicks off in 2017, when she launched The Happy Heart, a fashion brand that quickly caught the eye of Kuwait’s stylesavvy crowd. She wanted to use the proceeds from her venture to fund the social causes she cares about. Her designs were playful, practical, and full of personality-just like Sarah herself and were an instant success, which got her thinking! She learned a lot from the process of building a brand from the ground up and realized that she could help others by showing them how to start their own brands.

“I saw so many people-especially young womenwho wanted to start their own thing but didn’t know where to begin,” she says. She quickly made a bold pivot. Instead of just selling her designs, she started hosting workshops to show others how to launch their own brands, sharing everything she’d learned about business, branding, and, most importantly, believing in yourself.

For Sarah, empowerment isn’t just a buzzwordit’s the heart of everything she does. Her biggest goal? Making sure people have the tools and confidence to create their own income, so they can support themselves and their families. “Financial independence changes lives,” she explains. “It’s not just about making money for the sake of it. It’s about having choices, security, and the freedom to help the people you love.”

Through The Happy Heart, Sarah runs workshops, hosts Q&As, and offers one-on-one mentoring. She breaks down the business basicslike finding your niche, finding suppliers, talking to vendors and sharing your vision, building a brand, and marketing on social media-into fun, relatable steps. Her vibe is all about community over competition. “There’s enough room for everyone to succeed,” she says, and her growing tribe of followers is proof.

But Sarah’s impact doesn’t stop at entrepreneurship. She’s deeply committed to giving back, both locally and globally. A full 10% of The Happy Heart’s proceeds go straight to charity, supporting causes that are close to her heart. Right now, she’s using her platform to raise awareness and funds for Gaza, sharing resources and stories to encourage her followers to get involved.

“Business should be about more than just profit,” Sarah says. “If you have a platform, use it for good.” She regularly spotlights charitable initiatives on her feed, and encourages her community to think bigger than themselves. It’s this blend of hustle and heart that makes her brand-and her story-so powerful.

She’s also very clear about goals. “If you want to be a fashion designer, there are lots of other people who can teach you. I want to teach you how to launch a profitable brand,” Sarah explains. In a region where entrepreneurship can sometimes feel

out of reach, especially for young women, Sarah Al Hashemi is proof that you don’t need a trust fund or a business degree to start something meaningful. All you need is an idea, a little grit, and someone to show you the ropes.

Her workshops are a treasure trove of information. The four-day event which can be attended online or in real life, helps fledgling entrepreneurs learn the basics from how to price their products, build a brand identity, and even create capsule collections. The in-person workshop takes things a little bit further and includes a field trip to the fabric market so she can show her students how to differentiate fabrics, make the best choices and even introduce them to the best suppliers.

Sarah’s workshops feel more like a coaching event than a business course. She has invested a lot of time and effort into helping her students dream big and then achieve those dreams. She has already helped launch more than 200 businesses and is not showing any signs of slowing down yet. She never gatekeeps! She has kept her classes affordable so people can easily sign up and get started. She also uses her social media platform to share tips, tricks and hard-learned lessons, so other people don’t have to learn from scratch.

Her journey from designer to mentor and changemaker is a reminder that success isn’t just about what you build for yourself-it’s about how you lift others up along the way.

So, whether you’re dreaming of launching your own brand, looking for a little inspiration, or just want to support a business that gives back, keep an eye on The Happy Heart. With Sarah at the helm, it’s more than a brand-it’s a movement.

Follow Sarah @thehappydesigner.me on Instagram to learn more about her and her workshops.
