Obviously being a happy-go-lucky lifestyle magazine in the middle of a genocide going on in our beloved Palestine has its huge challenges, since we’re not a political newspaper, but we’re human, and we have feelings, and we know that literally all of our readers and followers are as passionate about this issue as we are. We’ve been quite careful and attentive to try and keep a balance between what we do, our content mix, our resilience, and our mission to keep our readers and followers abreast of all the cool things happening in our beloved K-town, while at the same time gently reminding them, and ourselves and the world that what’s going on is unacceptable.

This month, we’re giving our cover an extra moment in the spotlight, not just because it is a work of art, by the prolific Ghadah AlKandari, but because it is a poignant representation of the moment we are witnessing. Heartbreaking and, in a perverse way, heartwarming, the image shows Eve, a recurring character born out of Ghadah’s mind, proudly carrying the Palestinian flag, increasing in numbers, reflecting the Sumud Flotilla’s journey towards Gaza. We fear that by the time you read this the flotilla may have already been sent back or worse, attacked. Yet, the hopeful among us are wishing that they will be victorious in their attempt to break the siege.

We’ve featured Ghadah multiple times in bazaar magazine, and she is a prominent Kuwaiti painter and visual artist whose work blends personal narrative with universal themes of identity, memory, and womanhood. Known for her expressive lines, layered colors, and recurring female figures, her art often reflects the intimate and emotional landscape of everyday life. Over the years, Ghadah has exhibited widely in Kuwait and abroad, gaining recognition for her ability to merge storytelling with visual poetry. Beyond her studio practice, she has also documented her creative journey through writing and sketchbooks, offering audiences a deeper connection to her process. Her work continues to resonate as a thoughtful exploration of self, society, and the shifting textures of contemporary Kuwaiti culture. Ghadah has never shied away from tackling sensitive issues such as women’s rights and now, the genocide in Gaza, and uses her art and platforms to raise awareness and raise funds to help create change.

Additionally, three Kuwaiti activists, Khaled Al-Abduljader, Abdulla Al-Mutawa and Dr Mohammad Jamal are currently on board the flotilla. They are literally risking everything to stand on the right side of history and humanity. While more also tried to join, they were sadly unable to. They represent all of Kuwait and the free people of the world who want this inhumane and unjust genocide to end right now.

There is so little we can do except wait and pray, so we hope we have done our part by providing you with content to help you tolerate the anticipation.

Happy reading and Free Palestine!

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2025

Hidden Benefits of Doing Nothing

Each year, World Mental Health Day (October 10th) highlights different aspects of human wellbeing, but one message is becoming steadily clearer: sometimes the best step forward is a conscious pause. In an age of constant notifications, endless deadlines, and the pressure to always be productive, the simple act of doing nothing, deliberately, for just a few minutes, is proving to have real benefits for anxious minds.

Pausing Matters

Recent research shows that short periods of unstructured rest can restore attention and reduce mental fatigue. In one study, participants who took periodic five-minute breaks without engaging with their phones or tasks performed better on demanding cognitive exercises. Other research has found that memory improves when people rest quietly after learning, suggesting that the brain uses those minutes to consolidate and organize newly acquired information. Far from being wasted time, conscious small pauses act like a reset button. They don’t require a change of lifestyle, travel, or equipment. Just a few minutes of sitting still, letting the mind wander, or simply closing the eyes can provide measurable mental recovery.

The Digital Blessing

At the same time, digital tools have grown smarter at guiding people into these brief practices. Large reviews of app-based meditations show consistent, if modest, improvements in mood, focus, and overall wellbeing. The most effective designs are those that emphasize short, repeatable sessions rather than hour-long commitments.

Miracle of Mind

The latest offering by world renowned Yogi Sadhguru, amidst a rising tide of mental health challenges, aims to empower at least 3 billion people to take charge of their mental wellbeing. Apps such as Miracle of Mind have gained popularity by keeping things simple: daily guided sessions of around seven minutes, gentle reminders, and progress tracking to build consistency, along with timeless wisdom from Sadhguru himself. While science itself doesn’t promise a dramatic transformation overnight, the structure the app offers makes it far easier to actually follow through. For people who intend to take more breaks but find themselves pulled back into emails or endless scrolling, an app like this can be immensely empowering.

A Daily Practice For The Modern World

What makes this approach compelling is how seamlessly it fits into busy schedules. A quiet tenminute pause between meetings, a short meditation session before bed, or an Instagram-free break while waiting for coffee are all small adjustments that require no extra resources. The return — clearer attention, lower stress, and improved mood — may seem subtle

in the moment but tends to accumulate benefits over time.

This is not about turning away from medical care or professional support. Rather, it’s about recognizing that well-being is essentially built in everyday moments. Just as exercise and sleep are non-negotiables for physical health, brief mental rest can become a cornerstone habit for psychological resilience.

Looking Ahead

This World Mental Health Day encourages us to reflect not only on the big challenges society faces but also on the small, practical actions each one of us can take for our own wellness. Pausing for a few minutes may not look like much, yet science increasingly confirms it can help the brain reset and recharge. And with thoughtfully designed apps making the practice easy to adopt, there’s little reason not to give it a try.

In a world that rewards constant motion, the quiet power of doing nothing might just be one of the most effective steps we can take towards a mentally healthy society.

Amidst a rising tide of mental health challenges, the Miracle of Mind app is the latest offering by Sadhguru to empower at least 3 billion people to take charge of their mental wellbeing and discover the mind’s untapped potential in just 7 minutes a day! To know more, visit: isha.co/mom

ELYANNA IS THE NEW FACE OF H&M

A new era for the brand in the Middle East

H&M just announced a campaign collaboration with Palestinian-Chilean singer and songwriter Elyanna, whose fusion of Arabic heritage and global impact brings a fresh, vibrant energy to the brand. The collection offers a modern take on occasion dressing, blending dramatic silhouettes, bold accessories, and premium fabrics styled to regional tastes and self-expression. This collaboration also coincides with the grand reopening of H&M’s iconic flagship stores, Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates this November, redesigned as fashion-forward destinations promising an elevated shopping experience for fashion and beauty lovers in the UAE.

Elian Amer Marjieh, known professionally as Elyanna, was born in Nazareth in January 2002 to a family deeply rooted in artistic traditions. Her mother is a Palestinian poet, and her maternal grandfather was a singer and poet who performed zajal at weddings and cultural gatherings. From a young age, she showed a passion for music, singing by age seven and later posting covers online, where her talents were nurtured alongside her brother Feras, who would later serve as her musical collaborator and creative director.

At 15, her family relocated to San Diego to support her artistic ambitions, and she soon captured the attention of Grammy-winning producer Nasri Atweh, who introduced her to industry contacts. Elyanna’s style is a rich blend of Arabic, Latin, jazz, R&B, and pop influences. In 2023, she made history at Coachella as the first artist to perform a full set entirely in Arabic, bringing her culture to a global stage. Her debut full-length album, Woledto (released in April 2024), draws on themes of identity, love, longing, and cultural resilience, earning praise for its genre-blending sound and emotional depth.

For H&M, Elyanna embodies a new wave of creative voices rooted in cultural authenticity. In her own fashion choices she often integrates symbolic touches such as the keffiyeh, henna, gold coins, and bold eyeliner, elements that amplify her heritage while allowing personal expression. She and her sister Tali often collaborate on styling, reimagining garments and infusing them with Middle Eastern motifs. The synergy between Elyanna’s visual identity and H&M’s ambition to speak more intimately to audiences in the Middle East makes this campaign a timely and resonant pairing.

As the collection launches this November alongside the reopening of H&M’s Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates flagships, customers can expect an immersive experience that mirrors the energy and storytelling behind the campaign. The retail spaces have been redesigned to resonate with local sensibilities and elevate how people discover fashion, beauty, and expression under one roof. Together, H&M and Elyanna aim to usher in a new chapter of creativity: one where culture, style, and self-expression converge seamlessly.

The collection launches November 6 and will be available in stores and online across the Middle East.

YAZEED FAHAD A Voice Of Honest Emotion

On a late summer evening in Riyadh, a soft melody floated onto streaming platforms around the world. Its title, Habibty Inti, translated as You Are My Beloved, carries the warmth of intimacy, but what makes the song linger long after the last note is the voice behind it. Saudi artist Yazeed Fahad, just 26 years old, is quickly becoming one of the most compelling new storytellers in the region’s music scene.

The song is delicate yet powerful, framed by acoustic guitar and accordion-like harmonies that feel both familiar and fresh. With his tender delivery, Yazeed transforms the track into a personal confession, one that listeners can make their own. It is a song for a soulmate, real or imagined, but also for anyone who believes love can be sanctuary, purpose, and the heartbeat of daily life.

For Yazeed, music began with curiosity and persistence rather than formal training. Years ago, he stumbled across a guitar at home. It was not planned; it was simply there, waiting. Fascinated, he turned to YouTube tutorials to teach himself chords and songs. His first goal was modest: he wanted to play Let Her Go by Passenger, a track he loved so deeply it became his motivation. From that day, he says, he never put the guitar down.

This self-driven start shaped him into the artist he is today, someone who values authenticity and independence in every decision. Unlike many newcomers who chase formulas, Yazeed insists that an artist’s personality must shine through their work. “Your personality is what defines your artistic colors,” he explains. “No one can make personal creative choices better than the person who created the work itself”.

Yazeed’s music is difficult to pin to one genre because it reflects the layered experiences of his life. Born in Saudi Arabia but raised across Nigeria, Libya, and Germany, his upbringing immersed him in multiple cultures and sounds. It is no surprise that his style weaves Western indie influences with Arabic roots. This is not a calculated blend. It comes naturally, as he puts it, because his songwriting reflects both the world he comes from and the one he grew up in.

Songs like Meen Betkun and Ana carry traces of personal struggle, reflection, and resilience. For Yazeed, lyrics are almost always drawn from his own experiences. “Definitely personal stories about how much we, as humans, often struggle,” he says. “And that’s okay, as long as you face those struggles and overcome them in a healthy way”.

2025 is already shaping up to be a defining year for Yazeed. In the past months, he has released singles that showcase his range, tracks like Mali and Lob Al Mawdoo3, each revealing a

different shade of his artistry. Habibty Inti, however, feels like a turning point. It is soft-spoken yet slightly festive, easy listening yet brimming with emotion, and it positions him firmly as one of the brightest rising stars in the Middle East.

The single also hints at what is next, with a forthcoming album slated for release on MDLBEAST Records in 2025. Without giving too much away, Yazeed promises songs built on clarity and emotional honesty, experimenting with new directions while remaining true to the heart. “Clear and honest emotions that are easy to grasp from the very first listen,” he says. “What’s coming will be even better, God willing”.

Yazeed’s music does not live only in recordings. His performances at Riyadh Season and XP Music Futures Conference have placed him in front of diverse audiences, experiences that both humbled and inspired him. “They renew your faith in the industry,” he reflects. “Anyone who works hard can find success as long as you do not give up on your dream and keep improving yourself every day. And the fact that there is an audience makes all the difference, because an artist is nothing without people who value their art”.

It is this connection with people that drives him. For Yazeed, music is not simply self-expression, it is also service. He wants listeners to find comfort, companionship, and courage in his songs. “I hope to bring goodness to people’s ears and remind them that no matter your age or background, a song can comfort you and make you realize you are not suffering alone. We all struggle in silence, and I hope my songs can be the friend that everyone needs to hear in times of need”.

Though now signed with MDLBEAST Records, a label known for championing regional talent and helping artists reach global audiences, Yazeed remains deeply protective of his creative independence. His partnership with the label, he says, has been filled with “beautiful things” and opportunities he feels he earned after years of hardship. Yet he remains grounded in the belief that true artistry comes from within. “An artist must put their identity into most creative decisions,” he emphasizes.

This philosophy extends beyond his music to his outlook on life. For Yazeed, every hardship is an opportunity for growth, every challenge a chance to deepen his art. Writing and performing are not only ways of connecting with others but also tools for his own healing. “My struggles have become stories I draw inspiration from, reminding me that tough days never last as long as you keep trying sincerely and with dedication to make tomorrow better than today”. What sets Habibty Inti apart is the intimacy of its purpose. Yazeed admits he wrote it for his future soulmate, the person who will share life with him. But he also hopes it resonates with anyone listening. “I hope people have someone they can dedicate the song to as well,” he says, “because everyone deserves to drink from the cup of love”. It is this blend of personal vulnerability and universal longing that makes the song shine. Whether listeners hear it as a love letter, a prayer, or simply a soothing melody, Habibty Inti is proof that music, at its best, transcends borders and languages.

Yazeed Fahad is only at the beginning of his journey, but already his music carries the weight of lived experience and the lightness of hope. He is carving out a space where Saudi artistry can be both deeply personal and globally resonant, where Western influences meet Arabic roots, and where every chord carries a story worth telling.

With Habibty Inti now streaming worldwide, listeners everywhere are invited to step into his world, one of honesty, resilience, and above all, love. And as he prepares for his first full album, Yazeed reminds us that sometimes the most powerful art begins not in classrooms or studios but with a simple guitar found by chance, and the determination to keep playing until the music feels like home.

STUDY SMARTER NOT HARDER THIS YEAR

Get better grades without losing yourself

Look, let’s be real. It’s August. The heat radiating off the concrete could fry an egg, and the last thing your brain wants to do is understand macroeconomics or the nuances of contract law. You’re staring at a textbook, the words are blurring, and your mind is probably somewhere that has a beach, listening to the coolest new beats and not, you know, here.

Sadly, many of you are already back in school and hopefully you’ve committed yourselves to doing better this year. You’ve been told to “just study harder.” This is, scientifically speaking, the worst advice ever given. Your teachers and parents mean well, but their study methods are from the dinosaur era. Staring at a book for six hours straight until you cry is not a strategy; it’s a cry for help.

Your brain isn’t a hard drive you can just dump information into. It’s a muscle. And right now, you’re training it all wrong. You’re treating it like a bot, and it’s about to crash. Hard.

So, let’s install a new operating system. Here’s the no-BS guide to actually getting stuff done without losing your mind.

The Marathon is a Myth. Start Sprinting. The idea of a 5-hour study marathon is a scam. Nobody, not even the nerdiest person you know, has a five-hour attention span. Your brain checks out after about 25-30 minutes. So, stop fighting it and start working with it. It’s called the Pomodoro Technique, but let’s call it the “25-Minute Hustle.”

Here’s the breakdown:

1. Pick ONE task. Just one. Don’t you dare try to multitask.

2. Set a timer for 25 minutes.

3. For those 25 minutes, you are in a sacred focus zone. No phone. No Instagram stories. No “quick” check of anything. Tell your family you’re performing delicate surgery. Do not disturb.

4. When the timer rings, you stop. Even if you’re mid-sentence. Get up.

5. Take a real 5-minute break. Walk around, get water, listen to one song, stretch.

6. Repeat. After four “hustles,” take a longer break (20-30 minutes).

This works because it turns a mountain of work (“I have to study this whole chapter”) into a series of small, manageable hills (“I just have to focus for 25 minutes”). It’s less intimidating, and it keeps your brain fresh.

Stop Highlighting. Start Explaining. Let’s talk about your textbook. If it looks like a rainbow exploded all over it, you’re doing it wrong. Passively reading and highlighting is basically intellectual procrastination. It feels like work, but your brain isn’t retaining much. You need to switch from passive review to active recall.

Active recall is forcing your brain to pull information out instead of just letting it wash over you. Try this:

• The Feynman Technique: Read a concept. Close the book. Now, try to explain it out loud, in the simplest terms possible, to an imaginary person (or your terrified cat). If you get stuck or use fuzzy language, you don’t really understand it. Go back, relearn that specific part, and try again.

• Be the YouTuber: Pretend you have to create a 5-minute YouTube tutorial on the topic. What are the key points? How would you make it interesting? Record a voice note. You’ll instantly know which parts you’re faking.

• Flashcards are Not Just for Kids: Use an app like Anki or Quizlet. They use spaced repetition, an algorithm that shows you a card right before you’re about to forget it. It’s like magic, but for your memory.

Your Environment is Everything

If you’re studying in your bed, please, for the love of all that is holy, stop. Your bed is sacred ground. It’s for sleeping, scrolling TikTok at 3 AM, and contemplating your life choices—not for memorizing legal precedents.

Your brain builds associations. If you study where you sleep, your brain gets confused. It doesn’t know whether to power down or power up. Create a designated “Focus Zone.” It doesn’t have to be fancy. A clean desk in the corner of your room. The kitchen table when no one’s around. If you need to escape the house, find a spot. The goal is to have a place where, when you sit down, your brain knows: it’s time to work.

Fuel the Machine (Properly)

You wouldn’t try to drive to the chalet on an empty tank of gas, so why are you trying to pass an exam on a diet of Indomie, Red Bull, and crippling

anxiety? Your brain burns a massive amount of your body’s calories. It needs real fuel. We’re not saying you need to start eating quinoa and kale. But maybe swap that third coffee for a big bottle of water. Get a proper breakfast—even a simple foul sandwich is a thousand times better than nothing. Your focus, mood, and memory are directly tied to what you eat and drink. And for God’s sake, sleep. The all-nighter is a myth propagated by people who enjoy suffering. Sleep is when your brain actually processes and stores the information you learned during the day.2 Pulling an all-nighter is like cooking a great meal and then throwing it in the trash right before you eat it. So, close this tab. Pick one thing from this list. Just one. Try the 25-minute hustle. Your grades, and your sanity, will thank you for it. Yalla. You got this.

SADAAQA: PARTNERSHIP & CULTURAL KINSHIP

Preserving Indo–Kuwaiti Kinship Through Stories

The Arabic word sadaaqa means friendship, a sentiment that runs deep between India and Kuwait. This enduring bond is now celebrated in Sadaaqa: Partnership & Cultural Kinship, a new book by veteran cultural journalist and broadcaster Chaitali Banerjee Roy, released by Har-Anand Publications last month. Anupa Dasgupta designed the book, managed its editorial strategies and helped make sure the book was perfect before publishing. The book is a remarkable archive of oral histories, family narratives, and personal recollections that document the ties binding these two nations across centuries.

Sadaaqa shines a light on pioneering Indian families who became integral to Kuwait’s social and economic fabric—the Jashanmals, Oberois, Kohlis, Bhasins, Wadhawans, Lambas, and Mathews—while also honoring Kuwaitis who embraced India with equal warmth. Among them are Dr. Lubna Al Qadi, Sheikha Souad Al Sabah, Mubarak Al Rashed, Ahmed Al Sarraf, and the Al Arfaj sisters.

Sadaaqa is based on an audio-visual show on Facebook and YouTube that Chaitali launched in January 2022. The book is based on the stories that she uncovered over her first two seasons. Right now the show is in its fourth season, so there are many more stories to be told. One of

the book’s most striking highlights is the story of Sheikha Shaikha Al Sabah, the first Kuwaiti to receive India’s prestigious Padma Shri award, honored for her pioneering role in promoting yoga. Her journey reflects not only personal dedication but also the mutual enrichment of Indo–Kuwaiti cultural exchange.

The foreword, written by H.H. Sheikha Altaf Salem Al Ali Al Sabah, anthropologist and custodian of Kuwait’s heritage crafts, frames the book with historical depth and cultural resonance.

For Chaitali Banerjee Roy, Sadaaqa is a natural extension of a career dedicated to storytelling. Beginning as a radio broadcaster in Calcutta more than two decades ago, she has been contributing

to the Arab Times since 2001 while also working with Radio Kuwait. Her passion for documenting women’s stories led to her first book, “Women of Kuwait: Turning Tides”, which broke new ground by profiling Kuwaiti women leaders, pioneers, and changemakers.

“I am essentially a storyteller who enjoys connecting the dots and bridging cultures,” she explains. “With Sadaaqa, I wanted to preserve voices that might otherwise be lost, ensuring that future generations understand and celebrate the bonds of friendship that have shaped both nations.”

What emerges from Sadaaqa are stories that go beyond success to reveal grit and survival.

Figures like Kuldeep Singh Lamba, who arrived in Kuwait as a teenager after surviving Partition, built his business from a one-man tyre shop into the Al Mailem Group. Or S.K. Wadhawan, who endured the loss of his mother during Partition and began life in Kuwait at seventeen, living in spartan conditions before founding the Samara Group.

“These pioneers remind us that success is not inherited—it is earned, often against unimaginable odds,” Chaitali reflects. Their resilience, she adds, continues to inspire generations.

Just as powerful are the voices of Kuwaitis whose lives were intertwined with India. Dr. Lubna Al Qadi, who grew up in Bombay, recalls celebrating Diwali with friends and even bumping into the Beatles at the Taj Hotel. Mubarak Al Azmi, dubbed Kuwait’s “Kishore Kumar,” can sing old Bollywood classics with astonishing precision. And Sheikha Shaikha Al Sabah, deeply immersed in yogic philosophy, exemplifies how cultural bridges are built not through passing trends but through authentic absorption.

For Chaitali, the urgency of the project was clear. “I often worried that if these stories were not documented soon, they would vanish forever,” she says. “Oral history is not just conversation; it is lived experience, capturing memory and cultural identity for generations to come.”

By capturing both Indian and Kuwaiti voices, Sadaaqa ensures that the full picture of this friendship is preserved—not just the struggles of Indian migrants, but also the warmth and openness of Kuwaitis who welcomed them.

Sadaaqa also builds on the work Chaitali began with in her first book, which challenged stereotypes about Kuwaiti women. “Despite the huge number of Indian professionals, academics, and entrepreneurs who have shaped Kuwait, many young Kuwaitis still associate Indians mainly with blue-collar jobs. Through this book, I wanted to expand that narrative and highlight resilience, entrepreneurship, and kinship as part of the story.”

Looking ahead, Chaitali hopes to return to her paused project, Daughters of Kuwait, and is also exploring the possibility of adapting Sadaaqa into an audiovisual format.

In the end, Sadaaqa is more than a book. It is a cultural archive, a preservation of voices that might otherwise fade into silence. By weaving together Indian and Kuwaiti narratives, it reminds us that friendship is never one-sided; it thrives in the stories shared, the traditions embraced, and the memories carried across generations.

“Sadaaqa is about resilience, kinship, and the shared human stories that bind us,” Chaitali says. “It is my tribute to the past and my offering to the future.”

45 YEARS OF RADISSON BLU KUWAIT

Hospitality, Heritage, and Heart

This October, Radisson Blu Hotel, Kuwait celebrates 45 years of memories, milestones, and moments that have helped shape the country’s modern hospitality landscape. Since opening its doors on October 11, 1980 as the Kuwait SAS Hotel, the property has stood as more than just a place to stay. It has become a landmark of Kuwaiti heritage, a hub for international travelers, and a gathering place for the local community.

The story began with the vision of the late Abdul Husain Mohammed Rafie Marafie, whose foresight brought a world-class hotel brand to Kuwait at a pivotal time in its development. Under the leadership of General Manager Kurt Ritter, the hotel was born out of ambition and optimism, a reflection of Kuwait’s rising stature on the international stage. From the start, it

sought to embody both sophistication and local character, blending global hospitality standards with authentic Kuwaiti traditions.

In its earliest years, the hotel quickly distinguished itself, launching dining experiences that became part of Kuwait’s cultural fabric. In 1982, Al Boom Restaurant opened on board the Mohamedi II, a traditional

dhow painstakingly restored and repurposed into a fine dining venue. The concept was groundbreaking, and to this day Al Boom remains one of Kuwait’s most iconic dining experiences, beloved for its atmosphere as much as its cuisine. Just a year later, Peacock Chinese Restaurant opened its doors, offering a taste of authentic Chinese cooking and

cementing its reputation as a go-to dining destination for generations of guests.

By the mid-1980s, the hotel had grown beyond its role as a hospitality provider to become a central gathering space. The launch of the SAS City Lounge, the lively SAS Club, and the whimsical “Clock” Drive-in Restaurant offered locals and visitors alike new places to meet, dine, and celebrate. In 1987, the arrival of Al Ghazeer, another traditional dhow, added to the hotel’s expanding portfolio and reinforced its link to Kuwait’s seafaring past. These additions reflected the property’s role not only as a hotel but as a stage for cultural exchange and leisure.

The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990 brought unimaginable challenges. Like much of the country, the hotel sustained significant damage, and its operations came to a standstill. Yet the spirit of resilience that defines Radisson Blu was already in place. By November 1992, just two years after the conflict, the hotel reopened its doors. The reopening was more than a return to business; it was a symbol of renewal for Kuwait itself, and a statement of determination that the hotel and its people would endure.

This resilience has continued to define Radisson Blu Kuwait across the decades. Time and again, the property has adapted to the changing needs of its guests while honoring its roots. From reconstruction and refurbishment to the careful expansion of its offerings, the hotel’s story is one of evolution guided by a strong sense of place.

In 2000, the hotel unveiled one of its most ambitious and enduring achievements: Al Hashemi II, the world’s largest wooden dhow, certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. Built alongside the Marine Museum, it is a spectacular reminder of Kuwait’s proud maritime history. Far more than an architectural feat, Al Hashemi II has become a cultural and social icon, serving as the backdrop for weddings, national celebrations, and international gatherings. Its presence ensures that Radisson Blu is not only a place of comfort but also a custodian of Kuwait’s identity.

The early 2000s brought a wave of fresh experiences. Rangoli Restaurant added rich Indian flavors to the property’s culinary offerings, while the Azur swimming pool offered guests a revitalized leisure space. The creation of Sky Fitness and the Kids Club further established the hotel as a family-friendly destination. These enhancements ensured that Radisson Blu continued to appeal to both travelers and the local community, adapting to evolving tastes while staying true to its legacy.

The inauguration of Kuwait SAS Hotel on October 11, 1980, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Bertil of Sweden, marked the opening of the very first Radisson hotel outside of Scandinavia.
The opening team of Kuwait SAS Hotel in 1980, marking the beginning of what would become 45 years of hospitality.
An aerial view of the hotel’s seafront, November 1991.
An aerial view from the freshly renovated hotel, November 2012.

In recent years, the hotel has demonstrated its ability to embrace new trends in lifestyle and wellness. In 2022, the opening of the Padel Court showed that Radisson Blu Kuwait continues to keep pace with the passions of today, creating spaces that resonate with younger generations while maintaining the timeless qualities that have defined it for decades.

For General Manager Philippe Pellaud, who has overseen several phases of transformation at the property, this milestone anniversary is first and foremost about people. “Our 45th anniversary is more than a celebration of history, it’s a celebration of the people who made it all possible,” he says. “Every guest, every colleague, and every moment shared here has shaped our journey. We’re excited for what the future holds as we continue to be a place where Kuwait comes together.”

It is a fitting sentiment, because the real story of Radisson Blu Kuwait is written not just in grand openings and renovations, but in the everyday experiences it has hosted. Weddings that begin lifelong journeys, business meetings that lead to international partnerships, family gatherings that turn into cherished traditions, all of these moments form the hotel’s living history.

As Radisson Blu Kuwait turns 45, it does so with gratitude and with vision. Gratitude for the generations of loyal guests who have made the hotel a part of their lives. Gratitude for the dedicated staff whose service and commitment have been the foundation of its success. And gratitude for the community that has embraced it as a second home.

At the same time, the anniversary is a moment to look forward. If the past has shown anything, it is that Radisson Blu Kuwait thrives by balancing innovation with tradition. As hospitality continues to evolve, the hotel remains committed to leading the way, introducing new concepts, raising the bar for service, and preserving the cultural heritage that makes it unique.

From its pioneering beginnings in 1980 to its present-day role as a leader in Kuwaiti hospitality, Radisson Blu has remained a symbol of resilience, heritage, and heartfelt service. The next chapter promises to be just as bold, ensuring it remains a place where stories are made, memories are cherished, and Kuwait’s spirit shines brightly.

EFFORTLESS MODERNITY

COS Autumn Winter 2025 Collection

This season, COS steps into Autumn Winter 2025 with a collection that redefines understated elegance for the modern wardrobe. Staying true to its philosophy of timeless design, the London-based brand unveils pieces that merge clean tailoring with tactile experimentation, offering an effortless balance of refinement and ease.

The campaign, photographed by acclaimed lenswoman Carlijn Jacobs in an intimate London studio, celebrates individuality as much as design. Model Angelina Kendall leads the cast alongside Colin Otto, Awar Odhiang, Sora Choi, Badhiel Nyang and Long Li—familiar faces from past COS shows. Each portrait draws out the personality of its subject, while letting the collection’s quietly expressive details shine.

This is a season of depth. COS explores a rich foundation of inky hues—black, gunmetal, khaki and deep navy—layered with unexpected contrasts. Think shearling against leather, matte beside high sheen, and the introduction of croc and pony-effect finishes across both ready-to-

wear and accessories. The result is a wardrobe designed for layering with intention, where texture becomes as important as silhouette.

For women, the mood shifts seamlessly from day to evening. 1950s-inspired tailoring cinches the waist with feminine cuts and open necklines, while wool coats take on rounded, architectural lines. Cashmere pieces are sculpted, dresses drape with fluid movement, and soft knits sit confidently with pencil skirts—creating a wardrobe that is both powerful and poised.

Menswear takes heritage forms and turns them on their head. Relaxed tailoring, oversized shoulders, and inside-out lapels bring a sharp edge to traditional codes. Heavy knits, tonal layering and

basketweave textures offer warmth and versatility, while streamlined silhouettes deliver structure without rigidity. The interplay between classic and contemporary makes this collection deeply wearable yet undeniably forward-looking.

As always, COS looks to the rhythm of global cities and the culture they inspire. Each collection is rooted in quality materials, expert craftsmanship and a commitment to longevity. Autumn Winter 2025 is no exception—an exploration of how timeless design can remain dynamic, modern, and attuned to the way we live now.

The collection is available in COS stores and online at cos.com.

Lie

Antoine Lie: fearless concepts, precise craft

For celebrated French perfumer Antoine Lie, CZAR offered something rare: the freedom to create without compromise. Known for daring work with Givenchy and Tom Ford, Lie approaches perfumery as a balance between brand vision and artistic identity. “When I create, I get inspired by the brand’s philosophy first, then adapt my ideas for the market without ever losing my original vision,” he explains.

His creations for CZAR, Sword and Honeymoon, demonstrate the house’s daring duality:

• Sword reinvents the classical fougère with leather and warm Middle Eastern notes, projecting confidence and what Lie calls “soft power.”

• Honeymoon takes coffee—an ingredient treasured both in the Middle East and the West— and magnifies it into an “almost overdose,” yielding a bold, polarizing scent with lifelong appeal for those who embrace it.

Lie praises CZAR’s trust and respect, qualities that enabled him to push creative limits while remaining true to the brand’s DNA. His first visit to Kuwait in 2024 left him with lasting impressions of cultural richness and hospitality—qualities that mirror CZAR’s own character. “With CZAR, I found respect, freedom, and the chance to create without limits.” explains Antoine Lie.

Nathalie Feisthauer: poetry with power

Adding another dimension to CZAR’s olfactory identity is Nathalie Feisthauer, a Paris-based perfumer with a portfolio spanning Hermès, Cartier, and other global houses. For CZAR, she created Gardenia, a woodyfloral finalist at Beautyworld Dubai 2024, and Antelope, which balances European elegance with Middle Eastern strength.

“Working with CZAR is inspiring because they give creators so much freedom,” she says. “We combine Middle Eastern influences with European touches in a way that appeals not only to GCC markets, but far beyond.”

PEAK: the ascent of a signature

At the Kuwait Spring Perfume Expo 2025, CZAR unveiled PEAK, a fragrance by Cécile Zarokian inspired by the climb of a mountain. With airy aldehydes, mineral freshness, frankincense, florals, and musks, PEAK captures ambition, elevation, and elegance. More than a scent, it symbolizes CZAR’s rising place in luxury perfumery globally.

A world-class team of perfumers led from Kuwait to the world

CZAR has achieved what no other Kuwaiti fragrance house has done before: collaborating authentically with some of the most celebrated perfumers in the world. This roster includes Cécile Zarokian (@cecilezarokianparfumeur), Olivier Cresp (@ oliviercresp), Antoine Lie, Nathalie Feisthauer, Ilias Ermenidis, Jennifer Jambon, Aslan Gülçiçek, Valérie Bessone, and Marzia Tissino.

These partnerships have firmly placed Kuwait on the global fragrance map, proving that a homegrown brand can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s most prestigious luxury houses.

From Kuwait to the GCC: Luxury on Display

In addition to headline launches, CZAR Fragrances

is now showcasing its creations across the GCC’s most popular perfume expos. These events transform perfume from a luxury object into an immersive experience where visitors can explore ingredients, compare styles, and purchase directly. For many, it is the first opportunity to step into CZAR’s world and understand why these scents, crafted by master hands, are unlike anything else.

Toward New Horizons

Antoine Lie once described perfumery as “mixing all the elements, rebalancing them, and never losing the initial idea.” That philosophy now defines CZAR itself: a Kuwaiti brand blending traditions, cultures, and visions into something timeless.

As it continues its global journey, supported by a dream team of perfumers, CZAR Fragrances is showing the world that from Kuwait, a new peak of luxury perfumery is rising—one bold creation at a time.

BOOK PICKS FOR COZY EVENINGS

A curated reading list of fiction titles to ease into fall

As the days settle into a steadier September rhythm, few things feel as comforting as curling up with a good story. Fiction has a unique way of carrying us away — sometimes into worlds that feel like home, and sometimes into places we’ve never imagined. This month, we’ve curated ten novels that balance warmth, intrigue, and depth, perfect for cozy evenings and unhurried weekends

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Set in the 1960s, this witty and heartfelt debut follows Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant chemist who accidentally becomes a television cooking star. It’s funny, feminist, and utterly charming.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Between life and death lies a library of infinite possibilities. Haig’s novel is a hopeful meditation on regret, choices, and second chances.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

This modern fairytale about a caseworker assigned to evaluate an orphanage for magical children is whimsical, heartwarming, and deeply affirming.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

A sweeping tale of friendship, creativity, and love told through the lives of two video game designers. It’s both a love letter to art and a poignant story of connection.

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

Four unlikely friends in a retirement village form a crime-solving club — and find themselves tangled in a real case. It’s a cozy mystery full of wit and heart.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

An octopus in a small-town aquarium befriends a grieving widow, weaving together a story that’s both quirky and moving. A tale of unexpected friendships and healing.

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

This international bestseller about a grumpy yet lovable man and his unlikely bond with new neighbors is equal parts funny and heartwarming.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Written as an oral history, this novel chronicles the rise and fall of a 1970s rock band. It’s sharp, immersive, and feels almost like nonfiction.

A witty romantic comedy about two best friends who reconnect on a holiday. Henry’s writing is fresh, fun, and brimming with charm.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Spanning generations, this epic historical novel follows a Korean family living in Japan. It’s rich, emotional, and unforgettable — perfect for readers who want depth with their drama.

From heartwarming comedies to sweeping family sagas, these novels offer different shades of comfort and escape. They’re books that remind us why fiction matters — it entertains, but it also expands our view of the world and of ourselves. So grab a blanket, settle into your favorite spot, and let these stories carry you through September’s quieter evenings.

SMART SNACKS FOR SMARTER DAYS

Nutritious, easy bites to keep you energized through work and school routines

September always brings with it a sense of renewal — school is back in session, work calendars fill up, and daily routines become more structured. But with that structure comes long stretches of activity, and often, hunger sneaks up at the worst times. Instead of reaching for chips or sugary treats that leave you sluggish, smart snacking can keep your energy levels steady and your mind sharp. The right snack is more than a small meal; it’s fuel for smarter days.

The Case for Snacking Smarter

Snacks bridge the gap between meals and help prevent energy crashes. Done right, they can provide essential nutrients, regulate blood sugar, and improve concentration. The trick is balance: combining protein, healthy fats, and fiber to create satisfying options that sustain you rather than spike your energy.

On-the-Go Staples

Busy mornings and after-school pickups call for snacks that can travel. Nuts and seeds are classics for a reason — they’re portable, filling, and nutrient-dense. Mix almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds into small containers for an easy grab-and-go option. Pairing fruit with nut butter also works wonders: apple slices with almond butter or banana with peanut butter offer the perfect mix of carbs and protein.

Desk-Friendly Options

For those long office hours, snacks need to be practical and shelf-stable. Roasted chickpeas, broad beans, or even lightly salted popcorn give you crunch without excess calories. Keep a stash of dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher) in your desk drawer for a guilt-free sweet fix. If you have access to a fridge, yogurt cups or single-serve hummus with veggie sticks make excellent choices.

Kid-Approved Bites

School snacks are an art form of their own. To balance nutrition with taste, try homemade energy balls made from oats, honey, and nut butter. Wholegrain crackers with cheese slices or turkey rollups are both simple and satisfying. Even a small container of grapes or strawberries can feel like a treat while delivering natural vitamins and fiber.

Smart Swaps for Better Energy

Snacking smarter also means rethinking old habits. Trade sugary granola bars for protein bars with minimal ingredients. Swap out soda for sparkling water with lemon or fruit slices. Instead of fried chips, air-popped popcorn or baked pita crisps provide crunch without the heaviness. These small changes add up to a big difference in how you feel throughout the day.

Planning Ahead

One of the best ways to ensure smarter snacking

is preparation. Spending ten minutes on Sunday portioning out nuts, cutting vegetables, or prepping small containers of dip makes it easier to make the right choice when hunger strikes. Having healthy options ready at home, at work, and in school bags removes the temptation of less nourishing alternatives.

Fuel for September and Beyond

Smart snacking isn’t about denying yourself —

it’s about fueling your body and brain to handle everything September throws your way. By keeping balanced, tasty options within reach, you’ll find yourself sharper in meetings, more focused at school pickup, and less reliant on that midafternoon coffee fix. Because in the end, smarter days really do start with smarter snacks.

BERLUTI PRESENTS PÉRIPLE

A Contemporary Companion for the Modern Journey

Always eager to embrace the evolving rhythms of modern life, French house Berluti has unveiled its latest creation: the Périple line of bags. True to its name – “périple” translates as “long, adventurous journey” – the collection is designed for those constantly on the move, whether weaving through city streets or cycling across town. Supple yet sturdy, it embodies the kind of effortless versatility today’s lifestyle demands, while staying true to Berluti’s tradition of refined craftsmanship.

Founded in Paris in 1895, Berluti has been nurtured by four generations of master shoemakers. Over the decades, the maison expanded its legacy: fine leather goods were added in 2005, and a full clothing collection followed in 2011. Today, Berluti offers a complete bespoke service, with its ateliers on Rue Marbeuf and Rue de Sèvres tailoring headto-toe pieces for its loyal clientele. With more than 60 boutiques worldwide, Berluti is synonymous with precision, elegance, and a mindset shared by those who seek something truly singular.

That philosophy is evident in every detail of the new Périple line. The inaugural model, the Barrel bag, is crafted from full-grain Venezia Softy leather, a material prized for its texture and resilience. Its distinctive structure features a bottom panel

that wraps seamlessly around to form the straps – a subtle nod to the sole of a shoe. Even the construction recalls Berluti’s shoemaking heritage, with a recessed assembly method inspired by the meticulous stitching of an Oxford.

Design cues familiar to Berluti collectors are woven into the bag’s DNA. Leaf-shaped chapes, precise edge binding, and a zipped side pocket in the maison’s “1 Jour” style elevate its function. The large U-shaped zip opening adds both practicality and flair, ensuring that while the Barrel is a new addition, it carries the unmistakable spirit of a Berluti classic.

Versatility is another hallmark. The Périple adapts to the wearer with a supple body and a long strap that can be slung over the shoulder or

worn crossbody, molding comfortably to the hip. Beyond the Barrel, the line offers variations for every lifestyle: the Hobo and Sling are compact, upright companions for everyday use, while the Weekender expands into a larger, horizontal format designed for longer escapes.

Whether chosen for work, leisure, or travel, the Périple promises to accompany its owner through life’s journeys with ease and elegance. More than a bag, it is a statement of belonging – to a community that values timeless design and craftsmanship. In true Berluti fashion, the Périple is built not just to carry essentials, but to carry stories.

The Périple models will be available from October 2025 online and in Berluti stores.

From 11 to 15 October, the “Discover Armenia from the Sky” International Hot Air Balloon Festival fills Yerevan’s Republic Square and other regions with balloons from around the world. Clear autumn skies create stunning sunsets, ideal for photography. For extra adventure, travelers can go paragliding over Lake Sevan or the Azat Reservoir, enjoying a breathtaking perspective of Armenia’s colorful autumn landscapes.

2. Outdoor escapes in nature

Armenia’s landscapes are at their most breathtaking in autumn, when forests blaze with shades of red,

orange, and gold. Dilijan National Park offers scenic forest trails to Lake Parz, where visitors can try ziplining, boat rides, or hiking, and even stop at the Red Deer Breeding Centre to feed the deer.

In the Lori region, Stepanavan Dendropark showcases over 500 plant species in brilliant fall colors. For those seeking relaxation, a road trip to Jermuk, the country’s best-known spa town, is a must. Famous for its mineral waters and health resorts, Jermuk is surrounded by gorges, waterfalls, and mountain vistas where nature reigns supreme. Visitors can unwind in spa retreats, explore hiking trails, or marvel at the Jermuk Waterfall, cascading 70 meters into a deep gorge.

3. Festivals you can’t miss

October is festival season in Armenia. On Saturday, 4 October, the Areni Wine Festival celebrates Armenia’s 6,100-year-old winemaking heritage.

Visitors can sample a wide range of local wines, enjoy traditional music and dance performances, watch cooking demonstrations, and even take part in grape-stomping rituals — all while experiencing the warm hospitality of village life in the heart of the Vayots Dzor wine region. The same day, the Yerevan Marathon welcomes runners from across the globe to explore the Armenian capital — founded in 782 BC — through its parks, boulevards, and lively streets at the height of autumn beauty.

4. A taste of autumn

Yerevan’s wine bars, cafés, and restaurants serve traditional dishes paired with local wines, while wineries outside the city offer sunset tastings, live music, and even opportunities to participate in grape picking during harvest season. Seasonal specialties include ghapama, a festive pumpkin baked with rice, dried fruits, honey, and butter — a culinary highlight that embodies the warmth and flavors of autumn in Armenia.

For food lovers, cooking masterclasses are a unique way to discover Armenia’s culinary traditions, such as learning to bake UNESCO-listed traditional lavash bread.

5. The perfect season to visit

With its mild climate, vivid landscapes, and relaxed atmosphere, autumn is the perfect time to discover Armenia at its best. Visitors can stroll through Yerevan’s lively streets or head to Gyumri, Armenia’s cultural capital, renowned for its 19th and 20th century architecture and vibrant art scene. For history lovers, the medieval Bjni Fortress and the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat, connected by a scenic hiking trail, reveal the country’s rich heritage. From medieval fortresses to mountain trails and wine villages, Armenia in autumn offers a rich blend of culture, history, and nature in one unforgettable journey.

INDOOR PLANTS TO BRIGHTEN KUWAIT’S WINTER

Low-maintenance, air-purifying plants that thrive indoors when outdoor greenery fades

When the cooler months arrive in Kuwait, the vibrant green spaces of summer give way to a quieter, muted landscape. Outdoor gardens may not thrive, but that doesn’t mean you need to give up on greenery altogether. Indoor plants are the perfect solution — they brighten your home, improve air quality, and bring a touch of life to the season. Even better, many of them are low-maintenance, making them ideal companions for busy households.

The Power of Indoor Greenery

Plants do more than add beauty to a room. Studies have shown that having greenery indoors can reduce stress, boost mood, and even improve productivity. Certain plants also act as natural air purifiers, filtering toxins from the environment. In the middle of winter, when days feel shorter and spaces can feel dull, a splash of green can transform your living room or office corner into a sanctuary.

Five Easy-to-Care-for Favorites

Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

Known for its tall, striking leaves and almost indestructible nature, the snake plant is perfect for beginners. It tolerates low light, infrequent watering, and still works hard to clean the air.

Peace Lily

Elegant and graceful, peace lilies brighten any corner with their lush green leaves and delicate white blooms. They thrive in indirect light and only need watering when the soil feels dry.

Aloe Vera

More than just a plant, aloe vera is a multitasker. Not only does it add texture and charm to your home, but its gel has soothing, skin-calming properties. Place it in bright, indirect sunlight and water sparingly.

ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

With its waxy, dark-green leaves, the ZZ plant is both stylish and resilient. It handles neglect well, requiring very little water or light. Ideal for busy schedules or offices.

Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

Often called “the devil’s ivy,” pothos is beloved for its trailing vines and adaptability. It can thrive in low light, grows quickly, and can be placed in hanging baskets or trained along shelves.

Tips for Thriving Plants in Winter

Indoor plants have slightly different needs during cooler months. Most require less water since growth slows down in winter. Always check the soil

before watering — if it feels dry a few centimeters below the surface, it’s time. Keep plants away from direct drafts or heaters, and wipe leaves occasionally to ensure they can absorb light.

Making It Part of Your Space

Think of your plants as design elements. A large snake plant can anchor a living room corner, while trailing pothos vines soften bookshelves or office desks. Small aloe vera pots fit perfectly in kitchens and bathrooms. Mixing different heights and textures creates a vibrant, layered look that keeps your home feeling alive even when it’s gray outside.

Indoor greenery isn’t just decoration — it’s a lifestyle shift that makes spaces feel calmer, fresher, and more welcoming. With the right plants, your home can bloom all winter long, no matter what’s happening outside your windows.

Limited - Time Seasonal Menu!

READERS’ PLANET

A Magical Season with Kiki’s Delivery Service

At The Promenade Culture Centre, books are never just pages bound together, they’re portals into new worlds. That belief came alive once again in the most recent cycle of Readers’ Planet, the Arabic book club that promotes literacy and a love of reading among young kids 10 to 13 years old. Guided by instructor Alaa Alterkait, this season’s journey took readers through Kiki’s Delivery Service by Eiko Kadono.

Unlike previous cycles where stories were told aloud, this time each participant was handed their own copy of the book to read at home. The sessions, carefully structured over three months, were designed to blend independent reading with lively group discussions, games, and creative activities, all with the aim of helping children grow as readers in Arabic.

Over the course of four sessions, the children tackled big themes: resilience, responsibility, confidence, and the quest to find one’s place in the world. They didn’t just read about Kiki the young witch; they reflected on her doubts, her journey toward independence, and how her story resonated with their own lives.

To encourage deeper engagement, each child received a reading journal where they could summarize chapters, answer questions, and jot down personal reflections. In the very first meeting, they even designed their own Ex Libris stamps, personal bookplates that they would later use to mark their copies of Kiki’s Delivery Service. Thanks to Programme Coordinator Farah Omrani, the children saw their designs turned into real stamps, a moment that highlighted how books can become treasures, uniquely theirs.

Learning at Readers’ Planet always comes with a touch of fun. During the later sessions, the group split into teams for a trivia game based on the book. The energy in the room was contagious, with participants surprising one another with how much detail they had absorbed from the story.

The season concluded with a very special finale, a screening of Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Popcorn in hand, the children compared the differences between the novel and the film adaptation, discussing how changes in plot, character development, and artistic choices shape the story in each medium.

Since its launch in February 2022, Readers’ Planet has grown into a much-loved community program at The Promenade Culture Centre. Each year, two cycles are hosted, one in autumn, the other in spring, with every season exploring a new theme. Past sessions have included topics like identity, and the program has welcomed children aged 6–12 in different formats.

This cycle welcomed 10 enthusiastic participants, and the intimate group size allowed every child to contribute and connect. The next adventure is just around the corner, beginning on October 4th. Parents can register their children through the link in the Promenade Culture Centre’s Instagram bio.

As the Readers’ Planet team reminds us: “For children, books are not just stories, they are whole worlds, and parents are the guides who help them begin the journey.” With each new cycle of Readers’ Planet, that journey continues, one story, one child, one discovery at a time.

WHY OUTDOOR MARKETS ARE BOOMING IN KUWAIT

How pop-up bazaars and farmer’s markets are bringing communities together

There’s something special about a market day—the energy, the colors, the delicious food smells floating on the breeze. In Kuwait, outdoor markets have been growing steadily in popularity, bringing fresh life to weekends and connecting communities in a way that malls and online shopping never quite could.

The resurgence of open-air markets like Qout Market, Souq Al Mubarakiya’s seasonal events, and various pop-up bazaars isn’t just a trend; it’s a response to a desire for more authentic, communitybased experiences. These markets offer an escape from the ordinary shopping mall routine, creating a space where creativity, sustainability, and small businesses flourish.

One of the biggest draws is the chance to support local artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs. Shoppers find everything from handmade jewelry and organic produce to homegrown skincare products and artisanal foods. For many vendors,

these markets offer a crucial platform to reach an audience that appreciates craftsmanship and originality.

Another key feature is the rise of farmers’ markets, where fresh, local produce takes center stage. Seasonal vegetables, homemade cheeses, fresh herbs, and even locally farmed honey are available, helping Kuwait’s residents eat healthier and more sustainably.

Markets have also become vital cultural hubs. They offer live music, art displays, food tastings, and interactive workshops, making them ideal for families looking for more than just shopping.

Especially during Kuwait’s cooler months, visiting a market becomes a full day out, filled with music, food, and connection.

The growing love for outdoor markets signals a broader movement toward local, community-driven economies. People are seeking out experiences that feel meaningful and personal. And judging by the crowds flocking to Kuwait’s outdoor markets every season, this is one trend that’s here to stay.

These preparatory activities ensured students were well-acquainted with the campus before the official start of classes.

The Welcome Back event itself featured interactive photo booths, digital media activations, and involvement fairs that introduced students to the wide range of clubs and organizations on campus. Sports competitions and communitybuilding activities added to the vibrant atmosphere. A highlight of the celebrations was the introduction of IUK’s new mascot, the Panther, which quickly became a student favorite, joining group photos and inspiring the launch of a special Snapchat lens featuring the mascot’s face.

Commenting on the occasion, the President of IUK, Prof. Mohamad J. Terro said: “The Welcome Back event is a longstanding tradition at IUK. It brings our community together through activities and resources that help new students settle in while giving returning students the chance to reconnect. This event marks the beginning of an exciting academic year, and I look forward to seeing the growth and accomplishments of our students.”

With a balance of academic, social, and cultural programs, the Welcome Back event reflects IUK’s commitment to creating a vibrant learning environment where students can thrive both inside and outside the classroom. The university’s goal is to ensure that the transition to – or back to –campus is as seamless and enriching as possible.

Education at IUK is not confined to classrooms. Through experiential learning, industry partnerships, internships, and a wide range of student-led activities, the university provides opportunities for students to apply their knowledge, develop critical skills, and prepare for meaningful futures. THE AGE OF AI, MADE SIMPLE

How to start using AI to make your life easier, smarter, and more productive

We’ve all heard about it. From the boardroom to the classroom, café chats to TikTok feeds, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is the buzzword of the moment. Some call it the most powerful invention since the internet. Others fear it might one day replace their job—or their creativity. But beneath all the hype, fear, and futuristic headlines lies a more practical, everyday truth: AI can make your life easier.

Whether you’re a student struggling to stay on top of your workload, a busy parent juggling 20 things at once, a young professional trying to stand out, or someone who simply wants to keep up with the times—AI isn’t just for techies. It’s for everyone. And starting is easier than you think.

Here’s how you can use AI today—to do more, stress less, and live smarter.

WHAT EXACTLY IS AI?

Let’s break it down. AI refers to machines or software that can perform tasks we’d normally expect from humans—like writing, planning, translating, organizing, creating images or videos, or even holding a conversation.

You may have already used AI without realizing it: when Google finishes your sentence, when Netflix

recommends your next show, or when your phone corrects your spelling. What’s new is that powerful AI tools—once available only to experts—are now accessible to you.

START SMALL: USE CHATGPT FOR DAILY TASKS

AI chatbots like ChatGPT (hi, that’s me!) are a great place to begin. They’re like supercharged assistants that can write, research, brainstorm, tutor, summarize, translate, or even help you meal plan.

Here’s what you can try today:

•Students: Ask ChatGPT to summarize a long article, create quiz questions, brainstorm essay topics, or explain complex concepts in simple language.

• Young professionals: Draft emails, create LinkedIn posts, prepare for job interviews, or generate ideas for reports or presentations.

• Parents and busy adults: Plan a family vacation, find recipes based on what’s in your fridge, write a heartfelt birthday message, or create a budget. The key is to talk to AI like you would to a friendly, capable assistant. Be specific, be curious, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

NEED TO WRITE SOMETHING? AI CAN HELP

We all write—whether it’s emails, WhatsApp messages, school assignments, or Instagram captions. Writing well takes time. AI can cut that time in half.

Try:

• “Write a polite email to my landlord asking for a rent extension.”

• “Give me three witty Instagram captions for my beach photo.”

• “Help me reword this sentence to sound more professional.”

And if you’re working on a longer document—like a CV, a cover letter, or even a speech—AI can help you organize, refine, and polish it.

ORGANIZE YOUR LIFE LIKE A PRO

AI can also help you get your life together— without needing ten different apps.

Want to start a new fitness habit? Ask AI to create a personalized 4-week workout plan based on your schedule and fitness level. Need to manage your time better? Ask it to build a study or work timetable that includes breaks, meals, and family time.

Even if you’re overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin, you can say:

“Help me organize my week. I have too much on my plate.”

“I want to start eating healthier. Give me a meal plan for beginners.”

“Suggest a morning routine that helps me feel more focused.”

NO TECH BACKGROUND? NO PROBLEM

You don’t need to know how AI works—you just need to know how to use it. If you can type a message on WhatsApp, you can use AI.

Start by visiting:

• chat.openai.com – for ChatGPT

• gemini.google.com – for Google’s AI

• microsoftcopilot.com – for Copilot, integrated with Word and Excel

Most platforms have free versions and are accessible on both desktop and mobile.

IS AI SAFE TO USE?

Yes, as long as you follow a few simple rules:

• Don’t share personal details like your full name, address, or passwords.

• Don’t take everything AI says as fact— always double-check important information.

• Use AI as a helper, not a replacement for your judgment or creativity.

Think of AI as a very smart tool in your toolkit. It can help you be more productive, but the final decisions are still yours.

THE HUMAN TOUCH STILL MATTERS

Here’s what AI can’t do: feel, dream, empathize, or truly understand your lived experience. That’s your magic. AI is here to support you—not replace you. It’s up to you to ask the right questions, guide it, and bring your personal touch to everything you create or do. And the best part? The more you use AI, the better you’ll get at prompting it. You’ll begin to discover your own ways of using it—whether it’s prepping for exams, managing a side hustle, planning your day, or writing a heartfelt letter to a friend.

READY TO START?

Open your browser. Try a simple question: “What’s a fun weekend activity for someone who loves art, lives in Kuwait, and doesn’t want to spend a lot of money?”

Watch what happens next.

Because the future isn’t waiting. It’s already here—and it’s surprisingly helpful.

WRITING CREATIVITY AND THE SOUL

In Writing Creativity and Soul, Sue Monk Kidd will pull from her own life and the lives of other writers—Virginia Woolf, Maya Angelou, Harper Lee, and many others—to provide a map for anyone who has ever felt lost as a writer. At the heart of this book is the unwavering belief that writing is a spiritual act, one that draws inspiration from the soul, that wellspring of creativity between imagination and feeling. Once you tap into that part of yourself, said Maya Angelou, there are only three more things you need as a writer: something to say, the ability to say it, and, perhaps most difficult of all, the courage to say it.

THE WOMEN OF ARTEMIS

When she first married at fourteen, Otrera imagined a relationship full of love. A partnership. Years later, living in destitution with her abusive husband, she knows that no such thing exists with a man. It is simply a woman’s lot in life to accept the treatment of her husband. Until it’s not. Rallying the women around her, Otrera fights back, taking no prisoners. Because it’s clear to her: when men are in power, freedom isn’t granted. It’s bought with blood. It’s a price she is more than willing to pay, if it means building a new life with other women far from the reaches of their abusers.

WHEN they burned the butterfly

Singapore, 1972: Newly independent and grappling for power in a fast-modernizing world. Here, gangsters in Chinese secret societies are the last conduits of their ancestors’ migrant gods, and the back alleys where they fight are the last place magic has not been assimilated and legislated away. Loner schoolgirl Adeline Siow has never needed more company than the flame she can summon at her fingertips. But when her mother dies in a house fire with a butterfly seared onto her skin and Adeline hunts down a girl she saw in a back-alley barfight—a girl with a butterfly tattoo—she discovers she’s far from alone.

We Had a Hunch: A Mystery

Few stories captured the public’s imagination in the year 2000 like the friendly rivalry between the Teen Detectives of Edgar Mills, Massachusetts. Twin sisters Alice and Samantha VanDyne were thrust into the spotlight when they helped their father Sheriff Bill VanDyne bust a dangerous drug smuggling ring. Across town, bookish Joey O’Day proved himself to be a talented investigator of a different sort when he used his computer skills to expose an online grifter preying on elderly victims. As the two sets of teenage sleuths began jockeying to outdo each other, they became a sensation, appearing on talk shows and the covers of teen magazines.

TWICE

Though it’s a mysteriously located clinic with an uncertain address, it can always be found by those who need it. And the clinic has proven time after time that a prescribed cat has the power to heal the emotional wounds of its patients. This charming sequel introduces a new lovable cast of healing cats, from Kotetsu, a four-month-old Bengal who unleashes his boundless energy by demolishing bed linens and curtains, to tenacious and curious Shasha, who doesn’t let her small size stop her from anything, and the most lovable yet lazy cat Ms. Michiko, who is as soft and comforting as mochi.

When he is eight years old, Alfie Logan discovers the magical ability to get a second chance at everything. He can undo any moment and live it again. The one catch: he must accept the consequences of his second try—for better or worse. He grows up correcting his mistakes and saving himself from adolescent embarrassments. He even takes foolishly dangerous risks, just to see what it’s like to come close to death, before tapping back to safety. Eventually, Alfie turns his gift to his love life, studying his crushes and going back to make himself more appealing. In time, he falls deeply in love with Gianna, the woman he believes is the one. He seems to find contentment. But as the years pass, Alfie’s eye begins to wander. Which is when he learns a lone caveat to his power: once he undoes a love, that person can never fall in love with him again. Knowing if he gives into to temptation, he will risk losing what he has with Gianna, Alfie makes a choice that changes his life forever.
