Bayview Glen Annual Report 2023-2024

Page 1

Message from Head of School: JAMES LEE

The 2023-2024 school year was a notable milestone. The construction renovation of the northwest corner of the Lower School was finally completed prior to the start of the school year and brought great joy to our Preschool students and teachers as they embraced their new spaces. The newly renovated classrooms and Reggio inspired furniture provided a tremendous impact as the increased surface area of our learning spaces fostered a growing sense of joy, exploration, curiosity and discovery amongst our youngest learners. In addition, we continued to invest in the quality of our facilities and how it can significantly impact and transform the student experience. Some of the enhancements this year included the opening of the school’s first Health Centre and full-time registered nurse on campus. A newly surfaced turf field of higher quality to reduce the physical stress on joints and a newly designed mathematics lab that allows any Upper School student to access a math teacher any time of day for extra help, test preparation or deeper levels of enrichment. There is no doubt, that these spaces will have a significant impact on our students today and going forward.

This report captures the true essence of our school’s mission – Whole Child, Whole Life, Whole World. From the wealth of opportunities that are provided for the students to the significant levels of growth that can be clearly seen through their passions and interests within the areas of robotics, music competitions, athletics, DECA and many other co-curricular options that provide them a pathway towards becoming well rounded individuals. Congratulations to our Grade 12 Graduating Class of 2024. Our students continue to be placed in very competitive programs and post-secondary institutions but most importantly, they are prepared for their next journey in life and we wish them all the best going forward as they join our proud network of over 1,600+ Bayview Glen Alumni around the world.

As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, it brings forth a great sense of curiosity, passion and excitement as we launch our new five year strategic plan this fall. The design of the strategic plan involved a very transparent, comprehensive and inclusive process. A sincere thank you to our extended Bayview Glen Community for your involvement, contributions and support. Our new strategic plan will provide a pathway that builds on the successes of the past, for a brighter future ahead. I look forward to stepping into that exciting future together, as we build on our past successes and forge a stronger and more meaningful pathway forward to better serve our students today and better prepare them for the world they will inherit tomorrow.

Respectfully,

Grad Class Gift 2024

Thank you to the Class of 2024, who collectively raised a remarkable total of $13,150 as a leaving gift to Bayview Glen with 21% family participation.

The Bayview Glen Class of 2024 has decided that their legacy gift will create an Outdoor Education space for the Upper School community to encourage learning beyond our indoor classrooms.

This outdoor education space will be a place where science comes alive through environmental studies, where creativity flourishes during art classes, where mindfulness and wellbeing are nurtured through outdoor studying or discussions, and where members of our Bayview Glen community can gather for various events fostering lasting relationships and learning beyond the classroom walls.

A special acknowledgement to the Student Reps Vanessa Glowczewski and David Perry (SEC Co-Heads), and Santhiya Kuhan and Zachary Javed (Grade 12 Grad Class Reps) for their support and involvement.

We sincerely appreciate those parents and students for their contributions to this important initiative.

Construction Progress: Aquatics Centre and Gymnasium

Work on our new Aquatics Centre and Gymnasium continues to progress. During excavation, our team encountered unexpected and significant foundational challenges. To address these safely and effectively, additional engineering work was undertaken, including the installation of specialized micropiles to reinforce the foundation.

Throughout this process, safety has remained our highest priority, and we are proud to report that it has been upheld at every stage of the build. Foundational reinforcement is expected to be complete by the end of summer. Structural steel framing is scheduled to begin in 2025 and will mark a major milestone in shaping this
