WELCOME FROM CEO SAUL F. LEVENSHUS Welcome to the 2020 Winter/Spring JCC Program Guide. Inside this edition you’ll find a full array of programs and services designed to educate, enrich, and entertain you. As always the Guide is intended to complement our monthly Center Peace publication by providing our members with a time sensitive snapshot of the vast variety of programs and services we offer from January through June. You will see from the table of contents on the inside front cover that programs are listed by constituent groups beginning with early childhood and continuing through services for adults. Interspersed you will find a series of program advertisements describing upcoming events, special projects, and new initiatives that may be of interest to you. 2020 promises to be another great year at the J… and some of the highlights this semester include our ever popular Spurs Youth Basketball leagues (page 12), our 19th Annual Jewish Film Festival (page 16), Winter, Spring and Summer J-Camps (page 10), STARZ and NOVA Children’s Theatre productions (page 9 and 11), and our Author & Speaker Series (page 17). Then, of course, we’ve got The Sheldon Vexler Theatre’s 21st season (see page 15), which this season has already opened up with sellout crowds attending Neil Simon’s contemporary comedy God’s Favorite, and the Pulitzer Prize winning Dramedy, Driving Miss Daisy. We enter 2020 with our 3rd production, These Shining Lives, a historical drama by Melanie Marnich; and close the season with a thoroughly enjoyable and inventive comedy, Watson: The Last Great Tale of the Legendary Sherlock Holmes. It has already been another award winning season for the Vexler Theatre, and there is still time to get your tickets before our last two productions sell out.

to access information and sign up for the programs that you care about most. Download our new app from the Apple or Google Play Store (learn more on the back cover or from our courtesy desk staff) to manage your account, access schedules, update your information, register for programs, and check-in upon your arrival to the facility, all from your phone. If mobile isn’t your thing, our website also offers these same great features. These updates were all made with YOUser friendliness in mind, so we welcome feedback about your experience and we plan on continuing to roll out updates to our website and app that will allow you to further engage and connect with us even more in the near future.

If you’re looking to improve or maintain your fitness levels, you’ll want to check out the variety of sports and fitness options listed throughout this guide. From the full complement of cardio and strength equipment in our Hendin Fitness Center, to the more than 60 hours of free group exercise classes offered each week (page 19), you’re bound to find something to your liking; or maybe you would like to try a series of small group personal training sessions (page 21). If tennis is your sport, I would strongly encourage you to check out the variety of tennis programs (page 13 for youth and page 22 for adults). Throughout the cooler weather months, our Tennis Clubhouse provides both the convenience of a place to warm up after an energizing winter tennis class or league match as well as a place to meet and greet friends to make your tennis experience more complete.

I am really excited about the year of programs and services laid out in this program guide, and I want to reaffirm how important your continued support remains to the JCC. The United Way’s decision earlier this year to eliminate over $300,000 in support funding from our Early Childhood, Children and Youth, and Senior Adult Services has created a unique challenge for the JCC (along with many other community non-profit agencies) unlike anything we have experienced in nearly two decades. While our volunteer and professional leadership are fully committed to identifying the resources necessary to continue providing the same high quality programs and services that our community has come to expect from us, your ongoing support and participation remains essential and we’re glad you belong here!

And remember, while temperatures for the next few months will fluctuate between the 30’s and 60’s, our pool remains one of the very few heated lap pools in the area that provides a series of year-round programs and services for both children and adults. For those of you who took advantage of our new Splash Pad this summer and early fall, while it is now closed for the winter months, it will re-open before we know it as warmer temperatures return on a consistent basis. At the J, we are always looking for ways to improve your member experience. We are happy to introduce our new and improved online portal and mobile application which will make it easier for you

I hope you will continue to keep us informed about how we’re doing. We learn a great deal from the feedback we receive from our members and it helps us to develop new programs and make adjustments to existing services to make them more effective. For your convenience, you may use any of the following methods to tell us about your experiences at the “J”. You can call us, fax us, email us, fill out a comment card at one of our information desks, or set up a time to come by and visit with us. Your input helps us improve our services and increases the value of your membership. Enjoy looking through our 2020 Winter/Spring Program Guide and thank you for your on-going support.
