Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Storekeeper
Barbados Defence Force
1. Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force is inviting suitably qualified applicants for the post of Storekeeper.
2. The appointment of Storekeeper is a post on the Civilian Establishment of the Barbados Defence Force. Among other qualities, confidentiality and trustworthiness shall be enduring character traits which the Storekeeper must demonstrate at all times.
3. Academic Qualifications. Applicants should possess:
a. At least four subjects at CXC General Proficiency level, including English Language;
b. Certified Customs procedure course would be an asset; and
c. Not less than 3 years’ relevant experience.
4. Duties and Responsibilities. The successful applicant will be expected to:
a. Collect or arrange to be collected all documents of notification of goods assigned to the Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force;
b. Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures;
c. Confer with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through customs;
d. Arrange for transportation and warehousing of goods imported or for exportation;
e. Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and exemption letters;
f. Pay, or arrange for payment of, taxes and duties on shipments;
g. Classify goods according to tariff coding system;
h. Calculate customs duties and warehouse charges owed on shipments;
i. Maintain hard copies and electronic filing system as deemed necessary of all related customs documents; 1/2

j. Use the Bonfire portal effectively;
k. Requisition stationery;
l. Ensure prompt and timely delivery of goods;
m. Monitor or track the location of goods;
n. Clear goods through customs;
o. Receive clients and visitors;
p. Create and modify documents using Microsoft Office;
q. Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to photocopying, faxing, mailing and filing;
r. Maintain hard copy and electronic filing system;
s. Sign for and distribute project related documentation;
t. Any other related duties that may be assigned.
5. Abilities. Applicants should possess:
a. Ability to use modern (computerized) Customs procedures;
b. Ability to develop skills in the operation of advanced office equipment and machines;
c. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
d. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks within a reasonable time and to adhere to prescribed routines;
e. Ability to check numbers and written material for accuracy;
f. Ability to make simple arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed;
g. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public.
6. Salary. The salary of the Storekeeper is Z33 – Z24 i.e. $30,729.37$39,708.21 per annum
7. Appointment. The appointment is temporary and may become permanent after three years and is subject to termination by at least one month’ notice on either side.
8. Leave. Leave is granted as follows:
a. Vacation Leave. The Storekeeper is entitled to fourteen (14) days’ vacation leave per annum in the first instance and increases over time.
b. Sick Leave. Fourteen (14) days sick leave is granted per year.
