The Barbados Defence Force: Successful Weapons And Ammunition Management Course

Designed to enhance the safety, security, and professionalism of arms management in Barbados, is a significant milestone in the nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its security framework.

The Barbados Defence Force (BDF), in collaboration with the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) International and The Barbados Police Service, has successfully concluded a pivotal Weapons and Ammunition Management Training Course. This initiative, designed to enhance the safety, security, and professionalism of arms management in Barbados, marked a significant milestone in the nation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its security framework.

During the closing ceremony, held at the historic St. Ann’s Fort, Captain (Naval) Mark Peterson, Deputy Chief of Staff, lauded the course participants for their dedication and commitment. He emphasized that the training was not only about technical proficiency but also about reinforcing accountability, transparency, and responsibility in the management of weapons and ammunition.

"Your active participation and willingness to learn reflect your professionalism and unwavering commitment to safeguarding our communities," Capt (N) Peterson stated. "The skills you have acquired will undoubtedly contribute to the continued safety and security of Barbados, ensuring that weapons and ammunition are managed with the highest standards of care and integrity."

The week-long course was attended by personnel from the BDF and The Barbados Police Service, who engaged in rigorous training led by MAG International’s expert instructors. Participants received hands-on instruction in best practices for the safe storage, handling, and tracking of arms and ammunition, ensuring compliance with international security standards.

Capt (N) Peterson extended special appreciation to MAG International for their expertise, resources, and unwavering support in delivering the programme. "This partnership underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing shared challenges and advancing global security," he remarked. He also expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, including the United States Government and CARICOM IMPACS, for their continued support in enhancing Barbados’ security landscape.
