Veolia Water Technologies increases water production capacity for Parker Hannifin

Veolia Water Technologies has recently supplied a new ORION unit for Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Filtration Facility in Birtley. Building on a successful existing relationship, the new 20,000 L/hr unit replaced an older, custom-built ORION™ and has enabled the customer to increase production, reduce risk, be more sustainable and ultimately increase profitability.

The Parker Bioscience Filtration Facility in Birtley County Durham – part of Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies – produces a range of filtration and separation products used in pharmaceutical and high purity critical applications. Purified Water plays an important role in production as all manufactured products must be thoroughly flushed, cleaned and validated before they can be sent to customers. As a result, the facility requires large volumes of water that consistently complies to US Pharmacopeia’s (USP) water for injection (WFI) specification.

“Veolia Water Technologies was a logical choice because we already have a solid and wellestablished relationship with them and we know the technology delivers,” commented Nathan Ryder, Facilities & Maintenance Manager at Parker Hannifin. “What’s more, we were impressed by the technology and its efficient use of resources. This enables us to better serve our customers by increasing production, while reducing our water and energy consumption.”

Veolia Water Technologies’ ORION™ system is a reliable and proven purified water technology

that combines softening, reverse osmosis (RO), continuous electrodeionisation (CEDI) and ultrafiltration in one package. Capable of delivering large volumes of treated water suitable for a range of processes, the technology boasts a high water recovery rate and low energy consumption, which suits costumers conscious of their environmental impact.

Furthermore, the new ORION installed at Birtley reliably delivers cold WFI at a rate of 20,000 L/hr. This allows Parker Hannifin to meet its ambition of increased production, flexibly adapting output to demand.

“The project was a big undertaking,” added Nathan. “It required the construction of a new building to house the ORION™ as well as new control panels for our four ring mains that feed the factory.”

Veolia Water Technologies had to closely coordinate its work onsite in

order to replace the old control system that had managed the facility’s four water storage and distribution ring mains.

To achieve this without the need for downtime, the team focused on upgrading one of the original ring mains first as this was not capable of being sanitised with Ozone.

At the same time, the original central control system had to be upgraded due to obsolescence of critical components, and to incorporate major changes to the functionality of Parker Hannifin’s storage and distribution systems. All of this work was carried out while ensuring Parker Hannifin’s operations were not impeded.

Stefan Sadnani, Business Development Manager at Veolia Water Technologies, commented, “It was great to be able to work closely with Nathan and the team to make this project a success. The existing service contract on the old ORION™ unit has meant that we have built up a great understanding of the site and its needs over the years and this put us in a great position to deliver the expanded capacity that Parker Hannifin requires.”

Electro-Mechanical & Inductive Components Company of the Year

Cambion Electronics ahead of the

We are delighted in this issue of Industrial Process News to select Cambion Electronics

Limited as our Electro-Mechanical & Inductive Components Company of the Year

Accomplished history

Cambion Electronics has a long pedigree in manufacturing high-performance electro-mechanical and inductive components, with an illustrious history dating back decades. Back in 1961, the company was known as Cambion Electronic Products Limited successfully incorporated by USA company, Cambridge Thermionic Corporation. The aim then was to become a big player in the emerging market for electro-mechanical and electronic components in the UK and Europe.

Cambridge Thermionic Corporation was an unfortunate victim of the infamous 1990-1991 US recession and became insolvent. The UK experienced a similar economic downturn in 1991, with rising inflation, high interest rates, and overvalued exchange rate but despite this, Cambion UK continued to thrive as a single entity. Over the years, there has been a series of ownership and name changes, including Midland Ross, Interconnection Products, Hollingsworth, Wearnes, until 2016 when it finally became Cambion Electronics Limited, as it is known today.

Pole position

Cambion Electronics Limited is now part of a highly successful multi-billion-dollar conglomerate based in the Far East (Singapore), with a sole, autonomous 4,000 square metre manufacturing facility in picturesque Castleton, in the Peak District.

Cambion is autonomous in its manufacturing

capabilities with stamping, machining, moulding, automatic assembly and an equipped toolroom all under one roof at its ISO9001, ISO14001 and AS/EN9100 certified North Derbyshire facility.

With a steadfast focus on innovation, worldleading products, customer service and sustainability, the company has maintained its pole position as industry-leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance electromechanical/electronic components, inductive assemblies, and interconnect solutions. Now, with an expanding global distribution network, Cambion is at the forefront of the electronics sector, with a diverse customer base across aerospace, civil aircraft, gas detection, industrial markets, oil & gas, medical, military and many others.

2024: Year in review

We caught up with Managing Director, Martin Stoneman, to see how the company has fared against a difficult geopolitical backdrop, supply chain delays, soaring energy costs and new UK Government, “Challenging is the single word that sums up the last year. Moving into 2024 it was clear that there were stormy clouds on the horizon, however Cambion results will be favourable when compared to like companies in the electronics industry, certainly those in the UK. Factors out of our control such as geopolitical issues not only effect the value of commodities like gold, but also the confidence of our customers. This stated I can already see green shoots appearing for 2025 and expect to have growth; whether it will surpass our recordbreaking turnover of 2023, only time will tell.”

All that glitters is gold

Historically, gold has been the standard material to protect products used for joining electrical circuits, due to its inherent electrical conductivity properties and corrosion and wear resistance. The price of this precious metal has increased by more than 40% this year, with prices set to hit an alltime high in 2025, as Martin explains further:

“Gold has historically been seen as a ‘safe haven’ in time of troubles, so the rise in this commodity, caused by the geopolitical issues has been a major concern for Cambion. Trying to mitigate this against productivity has been a battle difficult to win, then when you add government legislation and tax burdens into the mix, it is one you know you cannot win, so price increase becomes unavoidable, which clearly creates risk. Cambion will continue to invest heavily in capital equipment though to improve productivity, and cutting-edge AI without losing sight of direct customer and supplier interface and its employees to upskill and

develop new competencies to meet the changing environment.”

Despite these setbacks with the price of gold, Cambion continues to focus its R&D on additional contact technologies to ensure Cambion supports its customers’ future application developments. The company is busy implementing ongoing Net Zero plans, such as improving systems and practices to eliminate waste. Cambion continues to strategically focus on ongoing product development, invest in the latest machinery and nurture organic growth in its customer base, through its excellent distributor network.

Electro-Mechanical

the pack in electronics industry

Innovation at Electronica 2024 Electronica is a leading biennial electronics trade show and Electronica 2024 in Munich brought the whole industry together for four days. Cambion launched its new contact technology for high current applications: Louvered Sockets/Pins at the November show, which were greatly lauded by visiting industry delegates.

The sockets are ideally designed for highcurrent applications, due to its multi-point manufacturing from heat-treated Beryllium Copper. Plated in gold, silver or both, these sockets come in various terminations, solder bucket, crimp, and thread mount.

“Our Louvered Sockets/Pins received wide interest from all points of the globe during Electronica 2024 – giving excellent potential for growth in 2025 and beyond. We also exhibited our other leading contact technologies such as: Spring-Loaded Contacts, Tulip Clip and Hourglass Jack contact. With instantly recognisable sockets, connector pins, terminals, insulated/uninsulated chokes, and coils, it was our pleasure to make contact with many new and existing customers and peers from across the industry. The year has also seen a successful take-up of the previously launched non-magnetic and relay base ranges.”

Looking to the future

As the industry moves towards Net Zero 2050, Cambion has accelerated its company goals

by announcing that all company vehicles are now fully electric. With the looming 2030 UK ban on all new petrol and diesel cars, Cambion is helping employees convert cars to electric through a salary sacrifice scheme. The on-site free EV charging stations support the running of these cars, with the long-term goal to run the EV charging car park purely on renewable energy sources.

“With Cambion’s product range, our R&D team is looking at advanced additional contact technologies to futureproof customers’ application developments.”

The non-magnetic range has undergone extensive R&D, with its sockets, pins, polygon pins, terminal and shorting links all making waves across the industry:

n Sockets – Extensive range of discrete sockets available in mounting styles such as: soldered, press fit, crimp, surface mount and stackable.

“Industrial Process News had a number of candidates to choose from, for this prestigious award. It is with immense pride that Cambion has been selected and is testament to our collective hard work. Thank you.”

High-tech containment shroud for mag-drive pumps

One of the technical highlights at ACHEMA 2024 was KSB Group’s new 3D-printed containment shroud for mag-drive pumps of the Magnochem type series. Named MagnoProtect, the component offers the same safety as a doublewalled containment shroud –without the latter’s disadvantages of heating up strongly and having high eddy current losses.

While providing comparable safety, the overall efficiencies of the new mag-drive designs clearly exceed those of canned motor pumps. Designed with a structure of channels, the new containment shroud offers a second, redundant, static safety barrier preventing leakage of the fluid handled.

A pressure transmitter monitors the vacuum generated, which is present during normal operation in the channels of the containment shroud. If the monitored pressure rises to atmospheric pressure, the outer containment shell is leaking. If the pressure rises above the ambient pressure, the inner containment shell is damaged.

The containment shroud design is characterised by high mechanical strength and good wear properties. It has been optimised to minimise heat losses and eddy currents.

Converting a standardised chemical pump with mechanical seal to a magnetic drive is easier and more cost-efficient than retrofitting it with a canned motor. The geometry and dimensions of the new containment shroud are integrated in the modular system of Magnochem, allowing metallic or ceramic containment shrouds to be replaced easily. This enables operators to upgrade older pump sets that are still in service without difficulty.

The importance of forging equipment PM

Today, ACE is offering the most comprehensive preventative maintenance programme in the forming and forging industry. The customised programme not only includes training activities and scheduled replacement of consumables, but also develops repeatable maintenance tasks and follows PM best practices for forging and forming equipment.

In this programme, the OEM first conducts a preliminary review of any existing PM programme documentation of what is currently performed. This includes the life cycle of frequently replaced parts.

Next, the OEM conducts a ‘health check’ to determine the equipment’s current condition, running clearance, electrical system, and pump performance. Based on the results of the health check, the OEM recommends corrective actions to restore the equipment to its original specifications.

ACE is in a unique position to utilise the full documentation of equipment in its broad portfolio of brands, along with extensive maintenance and repair experience accumulated over many decades. With its core brands founded in the 1800s, the company offers a full line of products, including standard mechanical forging presses,

upset forging machines, forging rolls, hydraulic forging, forming, compression moulding, cold extrusion, compaction, and roll ring preform presses along with stretch forming and straightening machines, solid die forgers, trim presses, programmable die forgers, and customengineered hydraulic presses.

In the next step, a customised preventive maintenance programme is created. This can vary, but typically involves following best practices for lubrication; daily visual inspections for signs of wear, leaks, or damage; listening for abnormal vibrations/noises when equipment is running that can indicate underlying issues; monitoring the presence of dirt or other foreign particles that can deteriorate the machinery’s efficiency; regular calibration to avoid misalignment or imbalanced equipment; and documenting all checks, observations, and maintenance tasks performed.

ABB UNITROL 1000 excitation system awarded DNV Cyber Security Type Approval

Classification society DNV has granted ABB UNITROL® 1000 excitation system Cyber Security Type Approval – becoming the first automatic voltage regulator to achieve it. This facilitates maritime operators in meeting the new IACS UR E26 requirements more efficiently and contribute to the security of their vessels against cyber threats.

In the maritime sector, ABB UNITROL 1000 excitation system is used for a variety of applications on synchronous machines ranging from 100kVA to 80MVA. To help ensure resilience in the face of potential cyber threats, UNITROL 1000 has been certified as of November 2024 for compliance with the DNV Cyber Security Profile 1 (IACS UR E27), which is based on industry standard IEC 62443-3-3 security level 1. DNV, also known as Det Norske Veritas, is headquartered in Norway and is the world's leading classification society, as well as a recognised advisor to the maritime industry.

The primary purpose of a synchronous generator on a vessel is to supply the necessary electrical power for various on-board systems, including lighting, machinery, navigation, communication

and propulsion. The UNITROL 1000 excitation system ensures stable control of the synchronous generator voltage, providing rapid response to load changes and maintaining required voltage levels, even in harsh environments. This reliability makes it a crucial component for efficient and consistent power generation, and safety of the vessel.

UNITROL 1000 is the first automatic voltage regulator to comply with the IACS UR E27 requirements, which involves ‘Cyber Resilience of On-Board Systems and Equipment’. The new certification is especially relevant for the maritime sector, which is currently accelerating its digitalisation with more connectivity to onboard equipment. Digitalisation brings many benefits but, at the same time, it can expose vessels to new cyber threats.

To reduce cyber risk, it has been mandatory for all new ships contracted from 1 July 2024 to comply with IACS UR E26 for ‘Cyber Resilience of Ships’. Having assets certified according to IACS UR E27 for the on-board systems provides important support for vessel owners, designers and yards in achieving full compliance with IACS UR E26.

You do get what you pay for…

When it comes to power transmission chain, Tsubaki proves that buying a quality product results in significant life-time cost savings

The climate in most industries at the moment is focused towards cost reduction to protect margins. While this is a noble pursuit, and one that can offer real benefits to a business and its customers, it is important that when it comes to procurement the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is considered over initial cost savings. While some components may seem like the cheapest solution in the short term, they can quickly prove expensive if regular maintenance, repair and replacement work becomes necessary.

Tsubakimoto, the world’s leading manufacturer of power transmission chain, believes that the key to real world cost savings lies in an extended, low maintenance, operating cycle.

All too often when we hear about a business cutting its costs, we hear in the same sentence that the cuts have been achieved by sourcing cheaper components during procurement. However, while these savings may look appealing in the short term, the only real way to gauge success is to look at the total cost of the product throughout its life. Cost of installation, maintenance requirements, downtime caused by early failure and replacement are all hidden costs which can add up when a budget component is specified.

Power transmission chain in particular is an area where many procurement managers may feel they can reduce costs by specifying budget chains. Because the technology is apparently so simple, and there are few outward differences in appearance between brands, it would be easy to assume that this is an area where budget components may be justified. However, the truth is very different; a chain which has been properly

specified and well produced, using high quality materials, can often earn its initial procurement cost back many times over when compared with cheap chain.

Jake Yamamoto, Sales & Marketing Director for Tsubakimoto Europe, comments, “Initial procurement is just one cost that needs to be considered when determining the TCO of power transmission chain. After procurement there is installation time, which can vary greatly between products, as well as the necessary maintenance requirements –such as lubrication or removing links due to elongation. Then of course there is the cost of replacement. A chain with a shorter life will need replacing which not only causes down time but also introduces a further round of procurement into the equation. When all of these hidden costs are taken into consideration it is easy to see how budget chain can quickly become a false economy.”

The ability for a premium chain to offer significant TCO savings has been experienced first-hand by a food producer who was looking for an alternative roller chain solution for its cake production line. The basic 12B chain that it specified as standard had an average life span of 9 months despite regular maintenance. The plant’s management was concerned about the regular replacement costs and approached Tsubaki to see if an alternative solution could be provided.

Having conducted a site inspection, the Tsubaki engineer specified Lambda lube-free chain. The innovative Lambda chain does not require any external lubrication, which gives an instant maintenance cost saving. As the chain surface is dry, any contamination risk is avoided. The chain bearing surfaces remain lubricated, which minimises wear and offers a much longer operating life.

The procurement cost for a single length of Lambda chain was almost 150% more than the cost for the basic 12B chain – which may have put a lot of operators off. However,

once installed, the chain lasted for 40 months without the need for any maintenance. Over 40 months the basic chain would have been replaced four times and accrued regular maintenance costs. As such the Lambda chain was almost 45% cheaper to run which represented a saving as shown in the table (bottom left).

If you take into account lubrication and replacement maintenance time, then the TCO figure starts to look more realistic, and closer to 100% more expensive. This is also without adding any potential downtime costs. The chain is replaced during a routine maintenance window, then there is no figure there, but, if the plant could be up and running instead of being stopped while the roller chain is replaced then the cost per hour of lost production can easily run into thousands.

Jake Yamamoto continues, “Tsubaki invests heavily in R&D and offers a wide range of products which have been designed for all types of industries and environments. This means that for most applications, even traditional hard wearing ones, we are able to specify a solution which will last many times longer than a basic chain. We will conduct a site visit prior to specification to make sure that we understand the unique requirements of every job so that we can provide an accurate estimate for our chain’s TCO.”

Dematic wraps up automation solution

Dematic has recently completed the final steps in installing and commissioning a compact automation solution featuring an AutoStore system for Spanish 3PL Grupo Servicio Móvil. The new solution manages the storage of medical supplies for one of Madrid’s largest hospitals.

The project represents an ongoing collaboration between the two companies dating back to 2012 when Grupo Servicio Móvil became the first company in Spain to install a Dematic Multishuttle® system at its Negreira site to serve healthcare customers in the region.

The family-run company with headquarters in northwestern Spain has been a leading third-party logistics supplier to the healthcare market in Spain for more than 30 years and has expanded its operations into national

governmental sectors and historic archives. Grupo Servicio Móvil has built its reputation on providing high quality standards in the services they deliver and in the service agreements they negotiate. They rely on providing minimum lead times to meet the requirements of the markets served by their customers.

For its healthcare customer in Madrid, Grupo Servicio Móvil installed a warehouse very close to the hospital, which came at a premium real estate cost, so an efficient, extremely compact solution was a top priority. The energy cost reductions associated with AutoStore systems –the robots utilise regenerative energy along with warehouse lights-out operation capabilities – are additional benefits.

To meet the needs of the hospital, the 3PL healthcare specialist needed to automate storage, retrieval and sorting processes as well as improve picking and sorting accuracies, which would lead to improved inventory management and order fulfilment. Additionally, scalability to adapt to changing business needs and growth over time was also a requirement. The Dematic solution covered each one of these aspects.

A Short History of CBAM

To understand CBAM and its purpose, it’s important to first note that markets like the EU, UK, and USA introduced Emission Trading Schemes (ETS) years ago to ‘tax’ energy-intensive industries and reduce carbon emissions. Industries such as cement, power generation, and steel were included under ETS regulations.

However, EU-based producers subject to ETS faced higher production costs compared to overseas competitors in regions without equivalent carbon pricing. This created a competitive disadvantage for EU producers. Many buyers therefore sought material and product supply from cheaper markets, countries without the emissions rules of the EU. Global carbon emissions greatly increased because of this.

greener practices.

Does it affect you?

To address these issues, the EU introduced the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). CBAM applies a carbon price to imports of certain goods, ensuring a level commercial playing field for EU producers. It aims to prevent ‘carbon leakage’ – the relocation of production to countries with lax emissions rules – and incentivises global manufacturers to adopt

There are seven main categories, with the metals sector one of the hardest hit. If you have precursor materials or products covered by CN codes under CBAM and you export to the EU, it will likely affect you.

Understanding CBAM and what to do about it has been the subject of much confusion. The transition period leading up to 01 January 2026 is crucial for businesses to adapt to the new regulations, so now is the time to act.

mile driven, which can be saved by cycling. For example, biking 10 miles instead of driving could save around 2kg (4.5 lbs) of CO2 emissions. Cycling not only reduces carbon emissions but it also helps to ease traffic congestion, making

commuting more efficient for everyone.

“Swapping four wheels for two is not only better for the planet, but also offers many mental and physical health benefits,” says James Whitten, Marketing Manager at cycleGuard.

With summer approaching and longer evenings ahead, cyclists have more opportunities to cycle. However, the enjoyment of these rides can be affected by a malfunctioning bike. Cyclists who routinely clean and service their bicycles can avoid major issues. Neglecting minor concerns like rattling or squeaking may escalate into severe problems such as a broken chain or flat tyre.

technotrans. “With the new spray. xact reflection, we not only meet the growing demands of the industry but also set benchmarks in resourceefficient micro-quantity spray lubrication.”

Until now, the spray.xact reflection was available with two valves and a spray width of 200 millimetres. In the new generation, the system is now equipped with additional valves and a significantly larger spray width. The special feature of the system is its patented process: The spray streams from above and below are reflected via a surface. This allows micro-quantities of significantly less than 0.5 grams per square meter to be applied to workpieces. The spray. xact reflection not only operates energy-efficiently without the use of compressed air but also conserves resources as a closed-loop solution: The medium that runs off the surface is collected in an integrated tray and fed back into the system. Applications include the processing of very thin bipolar plates for hydrogen production.

ELGi’s EG Series air compressors

Alucosur, one of the leading Spanish surface treatment companies, fulfilled their need for high-quality and energy-efficient compressed air with EG Series compressors from ELGi Compressors Europe, a subsidiary of ELGi Equipments Limited, one of the world’s leading air compressor manufacturers.

Alucosur offers a wide variety of bespoke lacquer finishes, specialising in wood and aluminium profiles, purpose-built for applications such as windowpanes. A family-owned firm based in Andalucía since 2014, the company upholds its reputation for high-quality finishings, excellent customer service, and prompt response times. Their ability to achieve a smooth finish on their lacquered products requires reliable and consistent compressed air.

The company was looking to replace existing air compressors to achieve better energy efficiency and ensure a

reliable compressed air supply as part of its modernisation efforts. Alucosur contacted ACOFRI, one of ELGi’s Channel Partners in Spain, to find the right solution. Following a thorough on-site analysis of the compressed air demand and requirements, ACOFRI installed two highly efficient ELGi EG30 oil-lubricated screw compressors, one of which included a variable speed drive.

ELGi’s highefficiency airends are equipped with in-house developed η-V profile rotors, with the 4/5 lobe combination, designed to run at low rotor speeds. The combination of these low operating speeds and operational Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) means the EG Series oillubricated screw air compressor lasts a long time and can adapt to the changes in demand and optimise the airflow, saving energy costs.

Holistic approach to safety

Following the confirmation of 11 new UK green hydrogen projects in the UK Budget announcement Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is pushing for industry to take an end-to-end approach to safety in the green hydrogen value chain to unlock global decarbonisation. The need is critical as, according to the International Energy Agency, low-emission hydrogen production is rising fast from a baseline of below 1 megatonne (Mt) in 2024, potentially reaching 49 Mt by 2030.

With hydrogen set to play a pivotal role as a renewable energy source for the future, any investment must be underpinned by a complete approach to risk prevention that protects a facility at every stage in the lifecycle and in the value chain. Schneider Electric is combining this risk assessment with the use of digital twins which enables rigorous testing and brings data sets from across process and electrical systems together for insight into correlations and behaviours. Once applied within hydrogen facilities this approach can

then be applied as an end-to-end model of across the whole energy supply chain.

Incorporating safety in a hydrogen production facility starts with ensuring that safety is not an afterthought but an integral element of the design. The more time and effort invested during this stage, the safer a plant is throughout its full lifecycle. With hydrogens highly flammable nature, low ignition energy, metal embrittlement and small molecular size, construction must include purpose-built components, including Ex-rated systems and materials that prevent the risk of leakage, as well as digital monitoring and control systems that will react to high or low temperatures, levels, flows and pressures.

Charles Day Steels unveils revolutionary Laser Bevel Cutting technology!

A pioneer in metal profiling, Charles Day Steels, proudly announces the launch of their progressive 50-degree Laser Bevel Cutting machine

This innovative addition to their extensive suite of laser cutting and profiling services promises to redefine efficiency and precision in metal fabrication.

One of the stand-out features of the new laser is its unparalleled versatility, enabling cuts at any angle up to 50 degrees from a 12kw laser power source. Set to revolutionise the industry with its ability to eliminate the need for manual grinding and weld preparation, this investment serves as a powerful complement to their existing

Waterjet Bevel capabilities.

The new machine boasts a large 6,510mm x 2,600mm bed, allowing for the rapid processing of substantial bevel parts up to 40mm thick. This advancement ensures a seamless transition from cutting to assembly, offering drastically reduced post-processing time and labour costs.

The ability to laser bevel cut offers two key benefits. First, it significantly cuts costs for downstream fabrication by providing parts that are already prepped for fabrication with weld preps. This eliminates the need for additional preparation, saving both time and money. Second, it efficiently handles parts that would otherwise require bevelling or countersinking through traditional machining methods, which are both expensive and time-consuming. By incorporating laser

bevel cutting, the process becomes more streamlined and cost-effective. This is particularly effective when dealing with harder material such as wear and amour plate which carry with them the challenges of machining harder materials.

Charlie Day, grandson of the Founder and Sales and Business Development Director at Charles Days, spoke about their latest investment, “With the launch of our new Laser Bevel Cutting technology, we are taking a significant step forward in our service capabilities by providing fabrication-ready parts in a single process. This addition means we can offer clients the very best value not just in our cutting service, but also through reduction downstream fabrication costs.”

Established in Sheffield, the city of steel, Charles Day continues to lead the way in profile-cutting innovation, leveraging over four decades of expertise and cutting-edge technology to serve their customers across various sectors, including construction, automotive, and aerospace, all with industry leading capacity and reliability.

Cantilever racking for prefabricated house manufacturer Marles

The Slovenian prefabricated house manufacturer Marles has installed around 442 metres of cantilever racking from OHRA in the outdoor area in order to reliably supply its production with construction timber. Compared to the previous storage on concrete blocks, the company was able to significantly increase its storage capacity and considerably simplify the handling of the beams, which are up to 13 metres long.

The location in the heart of the Bacher Mountains (Pohorje in Slovenian) posed increased challenges: Floor gradients of 3% in places, large amounts of snow and strong winds had to be taken into account when planning the racking system.

Marles is one of the leading suppliers of prefabricated timber buildings in Europe. As the largest Slovenian manufacturer, it stands for modernity and excellence. Our innovative engineering solutions contribute to progress in the industry and promote sustainable living with the development of climate-positive and energy-efficient buildings. The detached houses, apartment blocks and commercial buildings combine a high level of sustainability, energy efficiency

and short construction times.

All prefabricated elements are manufactured in the company's own production facilities, including the Lovrenc site in the Bacher Mountains. The structural timber required for production was previously stored outside in the form of bundles between 2.5 & 13 metres long on concrete blocks – protected from the weather by a removable roof. However, this form of storage took up a lot of space and made it difficult to access individual elements quickly. In addition, the timbers were repeatedly damaged.
