My House is your House is the site-specific installation presented by Azkuna Zentroa to showcase the art of Chiharu Shiota. In the exhibition, curated by art historian Tereza de Arruda, Chiharu Shiota has worked alongside Azkuna Zentroa on the concept of home, or casa/ etxea, extending the domestic realm to a public space, in dialogue with the architecture of Bilbao’s Alhondiga building.
My House is Your House reflects universal themes explored in Chiharu Shiota's work, such as home, memory, migration, life and death, using everyday objects: clothing, furniture and other personal objects. These elements are enveloped in intricate threaded patterns, which refer both to traditional weaving and eastern calligraphy. Her great-scale works are often red in colour, which symbolises the sun, life and energy in Japanese culture. They are pieces which transcend spoken language, nationality and religion, offering a universal narrative on loss, connection, and the preservation of memory.
CHIHARU SHIOTA
(Osaka, 1972) Chiharu Shiota, trained in painting (Kyoto Seika University, 1992-1996) and the visual arts (Braunschweig University of Art, 1997-1999 / Berlin University of the Arts, 19992003), lives and is based in Berlin.

A generative way this anthological exhibition of Marisa González (Bilbao, 1943), reviews this Bilbao artist’s work for having obtained the 2023 Velázquez Award for her long career as a multimedia creator.
Marisa González is one of the pioneering artists in the application of the new technologies of reproduction and creation in artistic creation. Since the 70s her work has moved away from conventional artistic means, to use what was cutting edge technology at the time, i.e. colour photocopies, faxes, as well as other tools, to create generative art as opposed to copying or replicating. Marisa González has created her own method, a language where immediacy, randomness; and trial and error become the protagonists.
This anthology curated by historian and researcher Violeta Janeiro Alfageme, covers 5 decades of this artist’s production offering a large part of her important series and projects.
Marisa González. A generative way started the Reina Sofia Museum on 21st May and will continue in Azkuna Zentroa from 29th October, where it revolves around the industrial landscape of Bilbao and 2 essential works from her career, namely the photographs and videos documenting the dismantling of Lemoiz Nuclear Power Station and Harino Pandera factory in Bilbao.
The exhibition has been arranged by the National Art Centre Museum Reina Sofía (Madrid) in conjunction with Azkuna Zentroa – Alhóndiga Bilbao.
MARISA GONZÁLEZ
She was born in Bilbao in 1943, and lives in Madrid. She studied Piano to degree level at the Bilbao Conservatory, and graduated in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid (1971), followed by a Master’s Degree at the Art Institute of Chicago in the Generative Systems Department (1973) and a BFA at the Corcoran School of Art, Washington D.C. (1976). Her entire artistic career has been influenced by her systematic relationship with the constantly changing technologies of contemporary society. Her works are held in numerous museums and collections, and she has had over 60 solo exhibitions and 150 joint exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale, the Reina Sofía National Museum Art Centre, Tabacalera (Madrid), or the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB).

Amaia Molinet
Associate Artist at Azkuna Zentroa
Tierra Quemada
Amaia Molinet, Associate Artist at Azkuna Zentroa –Alhóndiga Bilbao, presents the installation Tierra Quemada This site-specific is part of a long-term process that, from a healing perspective, approaches landscapes marked by violence and oblivion, with a special focus on the Iron Belt of Biscay.
The project weaves together art, archaeology, and magic in a poetic and subjective interpretation of these historical remnants. Through fieldwork and collaborations with specialists from various disciplines, Amaia Molinet has created a constellation of works that take shape as amuletlike sculptures—constructed following the principle of tensile integrity, in collaboration with Adrián Castañeda— and silk pieces developed through eco-printing and botanical printing, using plant species found at sites along the Iron Belt, in collaboration with Yolanda Sánchez.
On October 2 (7:30 p. m.), Tierra Quemada is activated through a performance-ritual with the participation of Pilar López de Alda, Anna Firmberger, Francesca Gaspari and Ibon RG.

El tacto del contacto
Inés García, a Babestu 2025 programme resident artist, is presenting her latest project El tacto del contacto at the Urquijo Hall. This is an installation which delves into the relationship between moving image, body and space.
The exhibition unfolds from its film perspective turning the Urquijo Hall into a “projection room”. After previously experimenting with slides designed to house her analogical films, the artist takes one step further and transforms the hall by appropriating its architectural elements to propose a new immersive and expanded film experience.
This perspective responds to her interest in questioning how film can be screened in an exhibition space and offering the public an encounter with moving images from the standpoint of attentiveness, physicality and proximity. In this way, the artist has created an intimate universe where contact with the material challenges the traditional boundaries of the screen and the very act of watching. Completing this proposal is a series of pictures on acetate placed in the windows like a cinematic filter, offering a renewed perspective from which to observe the world outside.

Lore Stessel
Associated Artist at Azkuna Zentroa
Poëtry of the Gang
Poëtry of the Gang is the resulting exhibition of a photographic project developed by Lore Stessel throughout her residency as Associated Artist at Azkuna Zentroa. The series explores ideas around chaos, instinct, anarchy and the potential of harmony in coinhabiting space.
For two years, Stessel has captured those moments in encounters with local dance and choreography groups, both amateur and professional. In these encounters, the artist has created space for the “accidental” and the “unforeseen”. They reflect the beauty of everyday routines, small gestures, and the power of movement. Everyday life turned into dance.
Babestu 2025 programme resident artist Beatriz Sánchez presents Fórmulas de Cinética Doméstica. This is the result of an artistic laboratory where mobile artefacts and small sculptures have been created from recovered engines, ordinary objects, ceramics and fragments. After a period of research, this project will conclude with two intensive weeks of work in the Urquijo Hall, turned into a workshop open to the public.
Visitors can walk around the space from 11 to 14 December and encounter a sample of the processes and curiosities, i.e. fragile mechanical assemblies which appear to come to life turned into unusual figures. Rather than a conventional exhibition, the display invites the visitor to enter a workshop of mobile experiments. Within this setting, anyone who approaches can move around the activated artefacts and witness a creative process in real time, where randomness and experimentation generate precarious, unstable, and unfamiliar sculptures.

Histrión Teatro DYSPHORIA
DYSPHORIA (the opposite state of mind to euphoria) is a fictional monologue portrayed by Gema Matarranz. It is focused on the recent cases of gender fraud that have taken place in the United Kingdom, assessing the knowledge and the response that society can offer in the face of situations such as these.
Written and directed by the playwright María Goiricelaya, the text delicately explores the legal vacuum, the social concern, and the suffering that these cases and their idiosyncrasies generate for their protagonists. It is ‘a shout, a necessary tour de force in a society in which the legal vacuums of the recent Trans Law require new and urgent solutions’, according to the author.
Histrión Teatro celebrates its 30th anniversary as a professional theatre company with the première of a documentary play that challenges the audience to question their own paradigms and prejudices, based on respect for diversity. The company has produced 23 shows since it was established in Granada in 1994. Today Histrión is seeking to follow its course, where two fundamental elements converge: the text as a structural element, and the acting role, which sustains the emotions, the nexus that conjoins with the audience.

Las hijas de Felipe is the name Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita started their podcast (Podium Podcast) with in 2020 on the forgotten areas of the Baroque, pursuant to the premise that “whatever’s happening to you now, already happened to somebody in the 16th and 17th centuries.”
This “deliberate ahistoricism sound refuge” has become one of the most followed thanks to its historical gossip, Baroque dramas and forgotten lives where nuns, demons, deceit, alchemy, recipe books and gold abound.
A space where the most remote corners of the 16th and 17th centuries and impenetrable nooks and crannies of the present overlap in a strategic anachronism to luckily suggest musings and unsuspected connections.
In this show at Azkuna Zentroa, Las hijas de Felipe abandon the calm and demureness characterising them to delve into the delighting path of mortification, the most extravagant penitence and punishments converted into fetishes, presenting flagellant seducers and saints with the most abominable vice

Haatik Dantza Konpainia
OTS
Haatik presents OTS, a dance that reimagines the avantgarde cultural movement that inspired HERRI GOGOA, the Basque Country’s first record label. It was founded in the late 1960s, though it was never officially recognised due to censorship. However, it managed to release over two hundred albums showcasing a wide range of artistic expressions, such as traditional and classical music, political chants, contemporary compositions, rock, etc.
From Lourdes Iriondo to Mikel Laboa, and from Karmelo Bernaola to Shegundo Galarza, HERRI GOGOA actively worked to shine a light on the modernity and richness of Basque music.
Haatik worked with guest choreographer Jone San Martin Astigarraga on the creation of OTS. Together with the internationally acclaimed dancer and creator from Donostia/ San Sebastián, they explore and reinterpret Basque dance, discovering new ways of structuring and “writing” them in space.
As a piece inspired by a record label, music plays a central role in the performance. Using the HERRI GOGOA catalogue, Haatik Dantza has crafted a “snapshot” of this universe, building a tapestry of compositions, sound documentaries, and musical testimonies which come alive from one performance to the next through improvisation and experimentation.
Músicas memorables is an intergenerational co-created project by the hablarenarte association together with the teacher and artist Christian Fernández Mirón, revolving around orality and folk songs connecting the traditional to the contemporary.
After 3 editions held in various cities in the Spanish State and a 4th in Santiago de Chile, the project has arrived in Bizkaia in conjunction with the Bermeo Association of Neskatillas & Rederas and Ondarroa Association of Neskatillas. It started back in May with the oral tradition laboratories providing memories, stories and children/youngsters’ songs and evening social gatherings.
Taking these encounters where the sound was recorded a free access database has been built with memorable music and associated testimonies highlighting the importance of oral tradition and folk songs for both collective memory and contemporary creation. Composition, recording and production of the repertoire 2 local artists generated were carried out during the 2nd stage of the musical residency, to be presented publicly in a concert on 16th December.

A programme aimed at supporting and fostering the analysis and production related to current creation, that favours the exchange between artistic communities, audiences and other professionals.
Rosa Casado
Multidisciplinary artist and researcher Rosa Casado's work focuses on questions related to performance and critical spatial practice. In 2025 she is developing the sound and performative piece Here Be Dragons as part of La ilusoria estabilidad del suelo, a project undertaken in her role as an Associate Researcher at Azkuna Zentroa. Through this work, she explores which elements fade away, become blurred, or emerge when the terrestrial is considered from the perspective of the aqueous bodies covering the planet.
Here Be Dragons is an attempt to map the planet’s twilight areas. Above sea level, twilight refers to the space and time when the world sways between night and day. Whereas below sea level, twilight refers to the ocean’s intermediate area where little sunlight penetrates, a dark, cold, high pressure environment that is unimaginably vast, barely known, relatively unexplored and highly vulnerable, where the planet’s largest migration travels its waters daily in an immense wave of life.

And there are words, perhaps on the verge of disappearing, with their own phonetic variants and phonemes which can be heard echoing through the valleys. These materials will be deployed at Azkuna Zentroa to work with other artists and to continue sharing.
Artist and stage and visual researcher, María Ibarretxe will be carrying out her choreographical research project ROSA’s Oscillation in Switzerland as part of the International Cross Dance Residency from 1st to 14th December undertaken by Azkuna Zentroa – Alhóndiga Bilbao and the Geneva L’Abri Creation Centre with the participation of L’Alakran Company via their Par Mobile initiative.
María Ibarretxe’s work crosses over: film, voice, sound installation and choreography. ROSA’s Oscillation is a choreographic research project exploring the chromatic and bodily dimensions of the “mystery-love-garden” triptych. Using materials from the PACAP 8 –Mystery School of Choreography, curated by Meg Stuart and Ana Rocha, this project consists of a file structured rather like a rose garden plantation cycle articulated through the dance of voice.
In this energized visit we conduct quantum-physics experiments in the form of activities using light to understand how it works. Through the experiments, participants in the workshop will be able to interpret various optical phenomena such as refraction, birefringence, etc., all of which derive from the properties of light, as well as other activities providing a simple understanding of quantum mechanics.
Aims of the energized visit:
• Allow participants to connect with quantum physics.
• Enable them to interpret those phenomena.
• Help them understand that, in the quantum world, there are some things we know are there even if they cannot be seen.

Video creation workshop with artist Beatriz Sánchez
This is a practical workshop that uses improvisation as both process and creative outcome. Participants will create live videos using minimal resources, without relying on advanced technology or software. The entire experience will be immediate, creative, playful and will require very few materials.
Using a webcam and a range of simple materials (magazines, scissors, pencils, coloured card, toys, etc.), students will build their own video creations. Through hand movements, they will play with paper puppets, collages they have made, small figures… making scene changes, transforming elements, and creating surprises that unfold live as the webcam projects the recording set in real time.
Movement workshop with choreographer Olatz de Andrés
In 2020,Olatz de Andrés and Ixiar Garcia began a joint artistic exploration when Olatz invited Ixiar to join her in Tiempo como cuerpo, a research project investigating how to transform our perception of time through movement, drawing, writing and audiovisual media. In this workshop, we will share some of the exercises, games and reflections from that research.
This workshop aims to share some exercises, games, and reflections from this research.

Workshop – images that think: critical reclaiming of the internet and collective creation
The anthology exhibition by Marisa González (Bilbao, 1943), reviews the artist’s career on the occasion of her receipt of the 2023 Velázquez Prize.
Marisa González appropriates the technologies of her age in order to explore their possibilities and construct a critical discourse that invites us to question reality.
In line with the artist’s trajectory and ways of doing things, we place ourselves in the present and focus on the value that images have nowadays in a digital world overloaded with information. We question the logic that underpins the internet and rehearse other consumption habits.
What happens when we give an image time?
