BLUPORT IMMIGRATION OFFICE OPENING TUESDAY
•According • to reports this week, the previously mentioned outlet for one stop service immigration will HUA HIN
open in the basement of the Bluport shopping mall next Tuesday, 9th May. This was announced last year when the brand new immigration building was also unveiled, and it has also been reported that this will open at the end of May, with the 28th mentioned by some. The Bluport service will only be dealing with tourists staying less than 90 days and 90 day reporting, while all other immigration matters will have to be taken to the existing office near 19 Rai or the new building in Ban Nong Khon when it opens. However it is expected that this will significantly ease the workload at the main office, and hopefully will mean shorter queues and waiting times there. The Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall office will be opened by immigration chief Natthathorn Phrosunthorn, and it’s opening hours will reportedly match those of the mall, currently 10am to 10pm. It is also being equipped with a high tech system to avoid customers having to wait at the office - after receiving a queue number, people will be able to scan the QR code into a smart phone, enabling customers to monitor the queue position while shopping, and avoiding having to wait in the office. The provision of both the office and the first of it’s kind queueing system will be a boon to the majority of expats living here on long term extensions, and will lessen the negatives of the new main immigration office location, as most will only need to visit there once a year. Hopefully some additional services, such as Re-entry Permits, may also be made available at the new office in time. Credit must go to the Prachuap Khiri Khan immigration chief Weerayot Karunyathorn for both recognising the need to address the increasing demand, and securing the budget to put the improved service in place.

UK Man slashed sofa with kitchen knife because he thought his wife loved it more than him A former football agent slashed his wife’s sofa with a kitchen knife because he thought she loved it more than him. Peter Harrison, 57, had been warned not to contact Wendy after their relationship broke down. But he burst into the house after pushing part his son, grabbed a 10 inch knife and began to stab the sofa saying that she loved it more. In fear of what might happen next, his son and daughter barricaded themselves in a bedroom. A court heard he had previously sent messages to his estranged wife including threats to burn down the house and have them kicked out. Harrison is a former agent of England striker Andy Carroll. Judge Stephen Earl told Newcastle Crown Court: ‘I have seen the level of damage you caused in the house. You felt she loved those inanimate things more than you so it was your way of taking out your frustrations on something. ‘The level of fear that it caused is incalculable.’ He said: ‘The one place someone is entitled to feel most safe is in their own home which is why this case does cross the custodial threshold.’ But Judge Earl opted to suspend the nine-month sentence for 18 months after Harrison admitted one charge of harassment, after hearing of his remorse since the incident in July last year. The court heard he now works as a consultant selling his European football expertise to developing clubs in China and the Middle East. Duncan Jones, defending, said Harrison regretted what had

He recognises now that his wife was unhappy but he had not appreciated at the time that she was unhappy. There had never been any violence or disagreements for 23 years. ON THE ROAD AGAIN At last - the answer to all of Thailands’ driving problems. The length of the driver training course is to be increased from 5 to 15 hours. And as if that isn’t enough the private driving schools will also be responsible for testing their own pupils! Clearly a lot of thought has gone into ensuring that the country begins to claw its’ way back down from almost top of the heap in terms of road deaths, while at the same time keeping the owners of driving schools very happy. Although as with other initiatives there could well be a quite rapid U turn. Looking back I dread to think what my own driving would have been like with just 5 hours training, and know that even 15 hours wouldn’t have been enough to master the dreaded hill start and three point turn. But the freedom of the roads was one of those things most young Brits at that time just had to invest time and money on achieving. Not least because in the 60’s having your own car could be the only way to ensure a little privacy from those pesky parents. Talking about the three point turn, changes will take effect to the UK driving test on December 4th, when reversing round corners and that turn will no longer be tested, (although they will still be taught.) Instead the new test will include the use of sat nav. That should be fun. How many drivers do you know who take what the sat nav says as gospel? I know several who argue with them, which must be quite a distraction, so perhaps testing on the use of them won’t be such a bad idea after all. Right now though the distraction of mobile phones is one of the biggest threats to road safety, at least in the UK, and it seems our police are fighting a losing battle against the problem. But at least one very sensible new law has just been introduced, which

allows doctors to instigate the removal of driving licences from those patients they consider medically unfit to drive any more. That should sort out a few of us doddery old baby boomers and keep death off the roads. On the subject of doddery old baby boomers, our esteemed UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson came out with his best line ever last week, when he referred to Jeremy Corbyn as a ‘mutton headed old mugwump’. The population was sent into a flurry of Googling to find out the meaning of ‘mugwump’, a word which, up until then, only fans of Roald Dahl had heard of. It turns out that its’ origins came from the Native American term for a war leader, and later it came into use as a description for a political turncoat. Which just goes to show that Boris’ privileged education hasn’t been wasted, and that he really should avoid having his quotes printed in the Sun. Meanwhile things are looking a little brighter around Hua Hin, where a swamp of sacred pink lotus has flowered for the first time in 10 years. Though not yet back to it’s previous standard the display, in Sam Roi Yot National Park, is attracting visitors once more.

For Spurs, a win here would bring them once again within a point of Chelsea, and would also guarantee them at least second place. A win for the Hammers would see them leap up to 9th position ahead of the other results later. West Ham are now unbeaten in their last four, keeping three clean sheets, but their home form has been patchy, and Spurs will relish the wide open spaces of the London Stadium, and are of course the form side of the league. However West Ham have had a habit of raining on Spurs parade, and the ground will be rocking. A lot will depend on how many of the home side’s first choice players are available, but it is difficult to see anything other than an away win.
