Gatherings, mixed media on paper, by Julia C. Spencer Artist and member of Avivo’s Community Support Program I’ve always been inspired by nature. My favorite place to explore is Lake Superior’s shoreline. I am a multidisciplinary artist working in the mediums of painting, pastels, ballpoint pen, gel pen, jewelry and mosaics. Recently, I’ve been making 3D art exploring the beauty in repetition. I am currently diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. Past psychiatric treatments and medicines left a five-year gap in my memories (my senior year of high school through college). I am a suicide survivor. My manic state is not typical mania. I get hyper-focused to the point of neglecting to eat, drink, or take a break. This happens most often while doing artwork. I attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design for illustration and photography. I also attended The Art Institutes International Minnesota.
Avivo’s mission is to increase well-being through recovery and career advancement while working to end homelessness. Avivo’s Community Support Program provides community-building and resources for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. avivomn.org
