Principal’s Foreword 校长序言

Shaping Possibilities Together—We Can, We Will

2025 marks another signifcant chapter in the Chung Cheng journey, as we continue to shape possibilities together with hope, courage and purpose. Guided by our theme “Shaping Possibilities Together – We Can, We Will”, this year has been one of forging new paths and deepening connections as a community. We take great pride in our students who exemplifed the school value “With Grit We Strive” through their participation in Singapore’s SG60 National Day Parade. Nearly 100 of our Secondary Two and Three students represented Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) with resilience and discipline, attending intensive rehearsals that stretched up to 15 hours on Saturdays. Their dedication and unity were powerful reminders of what our youth can achieve when they commit themselves fully to a cause greater than themselves.

In line with the spirit of collaboration and growth, this year also saw the launch of our inaugural Combined Chung Cheng Sports Carnival. Hosted by our sister school, Nanyang Junior College, the event brought together Secondary Three students and staff from both Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) and Chung Cheng High School (Main) in friendly competition. Through sports, we celebrated camaraderie, school spirit and the enduring bond that connects our campuses.

Our Secondary Three students also had the opportunity to take part in a unique four-day, three-night Combined Cohort Camp with Yishun Secondary School at Sarimbun Scout Camp. More than just an outdoor adventure, this camp encouraged students to stretch beyond their comfort zones, build lasting friendships and learn the values of trust, empathy and collaboration across school communities. We are also heartened by the unwavering support of our Parent Support Group. This year, they worked closely with our staff to organise a memorable Graduation Night for our graduating students—a gesture of care and celebration as the students marked the end of their secondary school journey. We are deeply grateful for this partnership, which exemplifes our belief that it takes a whole village to raise a child. None of these milestones would have been possible without the commitment and professionalism of our teachers. Their care, adaptability and deep belief in our students have shaped a strong foundation for success. This year, we celebrate the exceptional academic achievements of our 2024 graduating cohort—one of the best in our school’s history. They were the frst to beneft from our interest- and ability-driven subject combinations, introduced in 2022, which allowed them to grow in confdence, explore their passions and realise their potential. This milestone affrms the importance of personalising learning and trusting in every student’s capacity to thrive as we truly live up to our School Philosophy of “Every Student Matters” and “Excellence through Differentiation”.

中正联校体育嘉年华

On 28 May 2025, our Secondary Three students from both Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) (CCHY) and Chung Cheng High School (Main) (CCHM) came together for a vibrant Sports Carnival held at Nanyang Junior College (NYJC). The theme, “Building our Chung Cheng identity, celebrating togetherness,” brought together about 600 students and staff, creating a spirited atmosphere of camaraderie and healthy competition. The morning kicked off with a combined morning assembly witnessed by our Chairperson and members of our school management committee. Energy levels soared right from the opening tug-of-war match between CCHM and CCHY, which set the tone for the day. Another highlight was the telematches, which also featured our alumni — Year 2s from NYJC. Students then engaged in a variety of exciting interschool games such as football, frisbee, basketball, captain’s ball and badminton, testing not just their skills but also teamwork and resilience. At the same time, many enjoyed exploring fringe activities (street dance, table tennis and boccia) and refreshments, adding to the carnival feel of the day. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the fnal table tennis match between the two groups of school leaders, which drew loud cheers from the crowd. They took turns playing the match, and congratulations to the school leaders of CCHM for winning the novelty game. The event wrapped up with a prize-giving ceremony celebrating not only the winners but the collective spirit of the Chung Cheng family.

The Sports Carnival was a resounding success, strengthening bonds between our two schools while giving students a memorable day of fun, friendship, and sportsmanship.

APPLIED LEARNING MODULES (APLM) 应用学习课程

Applied Learning Module Programmes (ApLM) provide the opportunity for students to broaden their learning experiences, focusing on the practical application of knowledge. These workshops provided our students with applied learning opportunities – learning by doing, learning about the real world, and learning for life. In the process of learning, our students discover their interests and strengths, which will enable them to make informed educational and career choices. This year, in June, our upper secondary students were offered the opportunity to attend a three-day workshop under the APLM@Poly programme. Two groups of upper secondary students had the privilege of experiencing life as polytechnic students while attending lessons at the respective institutions. One group participated in the ‘Microbiology Workshop’ at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, while the other explored ‘Forensic Science’ at the Singapore Polytechnic. It was certainly a valuable experience for one to discover and deepen one’s passion for the Sciences.

TRIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

In 2025, our Secondary Three students embarked on an unforgettable adventure through the Trips for International Experience, where every journey opened doors to new cultures, ideas, and friendships. Those who travelled to China discovered the richness of its heritage and the charm of its unique lifestyles, while building bonds with peers from Shanghai Shangnan North Middle School. The Vietnam Humanities Fieldwork and Cultural Trip brought history to life as students traced the struggles of the past and refected on the impact of tourism and development. At the International Young Leaders Summit in Japan, our students sharpened their leadership skills, built cross-cultural understanding, and connected with passionate youths from across Asia. The Taiwan trip offered a vibrant immersion into its traditions and rapid development, while the Surabaya experience in Indonesia inspired empathy and innovation as students explored social enterprises and local culture. Together, these global journeys not only created lasting memories but also strengthened our students’ 21st Century Competencies and their pride as active, responsible global citizens.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE & LITERATURE 英文与文学部

The English Language and Literature Department aims to design effective and engaging programmes that encourage authentic learning, allowing students to apply language and literary skills learnt to real-life settings, so that they can appreciate and adeptly use the language to communicate. This year, through alternative assessments, the department helped students to hone their research and communication skills as they prepared speeches, videos, and posters that aimed to educate and raise awareness.

To deepen their love for the English Language, students were given opportunities to hone their skills in writing and public speaking competitions. Our Secondary Four and Five students participated in the Live On Festival Essay Writing Competition organised by the National Organ Transplant Unit. Shermaine Lian and Keity Weng were awarded High Distinction and Merit, respectively, in the Senior Category — a frst for our Secondary Five students. In recognition of our support for this cause and our consistently good performance, our students were selected to be featured in the National Organ Transplant Unit’s promotional video.

Additionally, all students and teachers in the school participated in Read for Books 2025, a National Reading movement and charity book drive aimed at raising awareness of reading and sharing the gift of reading with the less privileged. In line with the school’s morning assembly programme, which includes time set aside for students to read, this activity resulted in a pledge of approximately 1019 books for the movement, where the WondeRead initiative is one of the major benefciaries

The department also organised signature programmes such as the Spoken Interaction (Secondary Three) and Advanced Text Analysis (Secondary Four) to equip students in the specifc areas of language learning and to help them acquire some of the 21st-century competencies.

The Literature Unit also launched the inaugural Poetry Fortnight, ‘Echoes & Ink’, to immerse students in the power of words and allow them to express their creativity and explore diverse perspectives. Our Upper Secondary Literature students also spent a delightful evening watching ‘Macbeth’ at Fort Canning as part of the popular Shakespeare in the Park programme. The students were thoroughly immersed in the lively and suspenseful production, sitting in picnic style, moving along the plot together with audience and characters. They also managed to learn valuable aspects of theatre production in this experience.

These programmes and experiences have empowered our students to become empathetic communicators, discerning readers and creative enquirers.

All Secondary One students undergo ICT Baseline Training—a two-half-day course covering essential skills like Google Workspace and basic video editing. The Code for Fun Enrichment Programme, jointly offered by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Ministry of Education (MOE), introduces students to coding and computational thinking, broadening their exposure to technology. Secondary three students also use their Personal Learning Devices (PLDs) to complete e-exam practice papers, gaining valuable learning experiences through independent practice and digital assessment.

MATHEMATICS

数学部

In 2025, the Mathematics Department emphasised helping students develop self-directedness in learning and versatility in problem solving, while also encouraging them to appreciate the relevance of Mathematics in everyday life. Technology continues to play an important role, supporting exploration and discovery in and beyond the classroom. A key highlight for the year was the Secondary Two Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Carnival, jointly organised with the Science Department as part of STEM Learning Week. The carnival brought together workshops and fringe booths that encouraged students to experiment, create, and think critically about how science, technology, engineering and mathematics connect to the world around them.

The Mother Tongue Languages Department is dedicated to designing authentic and enriching learning experiences to engage students better and nurture them into confdent and passionate learners. This year, during the Mother Tongue Fortnight, students explored their Mother Tongue languages and cultures through various art forms. They enjoyed the graceful movements of Chinese opera and learned about traditional Malay cultural expressions such as the Kompang performance and Batik Art.

In addition to the Mother Tongue Fortnight, the department also organised drama performances and an Author-in-Residence programme. Through these immersive learning journeys, students deepened their appreciation and understanding of their own cultures through the performing arts and related activities.

To foster students’ interest in reading and strengthen their literacy skills, the department relaunched the Reading Programme this year. Leveraging artifcial intelligence, a series of illustrated readers—aligned with curriculum themes and accompanied by Hanyu Pinyin— were specially developed. These resources support students with weaker reading abilities, enabling them to enjoy the pleasures of reading.

Teachers in the Mother Tongue Languages Department have also continued to grow professionally and have performed well in various teaching and learning communities. They actively participated in professional learning networks led by Master Teachers, and designed online learning tasks and blended learning resources that encourage students to take greater ownership of their learning.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & CCA

体育与课程辅助活动部

Physical Education (PE) plays an integral role in promoting physical health and ftness among our youth. It is a curriculum that simultaneously develops the character, mind, and body of our students. In school, a wide range of sports and physical activities are taught to equip students with fundamental sports skills, as well as to help them attain acceptable ftness levels and abilities for recreational games. This year marked a new milestone with the inaugural Sports Carnival for our Secondary Three students, jointly organised with Chung Cheng High School (Main) in May. In the lead-up to this exciting event, numerous practice sessions were held during PE lessons, allowing students to hone their skills, build teamwork and strengthen their competitive spirit. In addition, our collaboration with SportSG continued, bringing recreational sports modules such as Basketball, Flippaball (a form of water polo), and Track and Field to our students. The annual inter-class games held in October further promoted class spirit and provided students with opportunities to experience the joy of friendly competition. Ultimately, our aim is for students to enjoy being active and cultivate healthy lifestyle habits that involve physical activities, lasting through adolescence and into adulthood.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) play a vital role in providing students with a holistic and well-rounded experience beyond the academic curriculum. The wide range of CCAs offered helps students discover their interests and talents while fostering leadership skills, resilience, and other essential life skills. Through CCAs, students are empowered to pursue their passions and fulfl their aspirations. At the start of each year, our Secondary One students are given the opportunity to attend CCA tryouts before making their selection. This approach allows students to exercise autonomy and make informed decisions about their preferred CCAs. As a result, the vast majority of students are assigned to a CCA of their top choice, leading to greater commitment, a lower attrition rate, and stronger overall performance across the school’s CCAs. This year was especially meaningful as our Performing Arts groups participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation 2025, where many groups attained outstanding results. Their passion, discipline, and dedication were evident in their performances, which brought pride and joy to the school community. In addition, many students from various CCAs took part in Singapore’s 60th National Day Parade (SG60), showcasing their talents on the national stage. Their involvement was made possible through the unwavering guidance and support of all our CCA teachers, who played an integral role in encouraging them to participate in this memorable milestone event. Through active and meaningful participation in CCAs, our students continue to grow as individuals who demonstrate a deep sense of belonging and commitment to the school, the community, and the nation.

COMPUTER EDUCATION UNIT 电脑教育科

This year, the Computing Unit welcomed a new member to the teaching team, Mr Tay Teck Seng, who teaches both CPA and Computing. For the frst time, we also have four Untrained Contract Teachers (UCTs) — Ms Adoncia Lim, Mr Syahmi, Mr Vinesh Joseph, and Mr Ivan Wong — joining our department. With their professional backgrounds in technology-related felds, they bring valuable real-world perspectives that enrich our students’ learning experiences.

Our school was proud to support two Secondary Four students, Han Jo Xi, 4E, and Malcolm Khoo Minghao, 4E, in the 28th National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI), organised by the School of Computing, National University of Singapore, on 22 March 2025. This highly competitive platform challenges participants in advanced problem-solving and programming. Both students embodied the school value “With Grit, We Strive” through their perseverance, competing for a second consecutive year.

In June, Computing students Adarsh Das, 3E, Lim Heok Xuan Caden, 3F, Loh Hao Xuan, 3G, and Wang Simeng, 4E, attended the annual Building BloCS Conference from 10 to 11 June, with the closing ceremony held on 14 June 2025. Despite the event taking place during the school holidays, their passion and dedication to Computing motivated them to participate enthusiastically. Centred on the theme of Artifcial Intelligence (AI), the conference offered hands-on workshops and engaging sessions that allowed participants to explore AI concepts beyond the classroom. The students also had the opportunity to connect with peers from other schools, demonstrating our school motto: “Success through Diligence and Perseverance.”

The school also celebrates Ng Qi En Grace, 3A, who represented us in the annual Animation and Game-Making (AGM) Competition organised by Ministry of Education (MOE). With the theme “Artifcial Intelligence and Us,” the competition challenged participants to create innovative works that promote the responsible use of AI. Grace developed an educational game that encourages safe practices in an AI-driven world, blending creativity with a strong sense of digital responsibility. Her efforts were recognised with the Silver Award in the GameMaking category of the AGM Competition 2025 — an inspiring achievement that brings pride to the school and encourages her peers to pursue their passions with creativity and purpose.

ELEMENTS OF BUSINESS SKILLS UNIT

商业技能科

The Elements of Business Skills (EBS) unit aims to create awareness and ignite students’ interest in the three service industries: Travel and Tourism, Retail and Hospitality, and equip students with basic skills in customer service. Students are given assignments that require them to critically think about how to improve the marketing mix of a business to ensure it remains competitive in the face of changing trends and customer expectations. Learning Journeys are an important learning experience for students to see the ‘textbook coming alive’. This year, students embarked on a learning journey that allows them to experience customer service as ‘tourists’ visiting historical sites and immersing themselves in Singapore’s rich culture.

Exploring Singapore: A Memorable Learning Journey with EBS

On 20th August, the Secondary Three students of Elements of Business Skills (EBS) embarked on an exciting and enriching learning journey that sparked both curiosity and enthusiasm. A bright orange doubledecker Funvee bus, with its open-air upper deck, was parked at the school, ready to take everyone on an adventure through the heart of Singapore.

Guiding the students on this exploration was Mr. Vincent, an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide, whose vast understanding of Singapore’s landmarks and history made the journey truly unforgettable. The tour began with a visit to the iconic Gardens by the Bay, followed by a stroll through Lau Pa Sat in the bustling Central Business District. Along the way, the students learned about some of Singapore’s most famous sites, such as the Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City and the historic Old Hill Street Police Station, discovering the rich history and culture that make Singapore a unique destination for visitors from around the world.

The journey continued with a tour through vibrant ethnic quarters like Kampong Glam, Chinatown, and Little India, where students experienced the diverse heritage that shapes Singapore’s multicultural identity.

The day concluded with a delightful tea break, where both students and teachers savoured the unique and delicious favours of Roti Prata before boarding the bus to return to school.

This learning journey not only provided valuable insights into Singapore’s landmarks and history but also deepened the students’ understanding about local tours in Singapore!

APPLIED LEARNING PROGRAMME 应用学习课程

Brewing Success: Our Story of Food

In 2025, our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Health and Food Science has fourished under the theme ‘Our Story of Food,’ bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) concepts to life through real-world applications.

Our Secondary One students explore modern farming technologies and their contribution to Singapore’s SG30 by 30 goals. Secondary Two students investigate beverage science through specially-designed STEM lessons that spark curiosity and empower them to make informed dietary choices.

Students with keen interest develop into skilled baristas and gourmets through specialised modules in coffeemaking and food preparation. Our ‘Farm to Table’ initiative transforms their learning as they harvest herbs from our Modular Edible Wall to create innovative drinks and artisanal food items such as our perfectly crafted waffes.

The highlight of 2025 was the expansion of Our Coffee Story café. This enhanced space represents our students’ growing capabilities and opens new possibilities for industry partnerships, marking another exciting chapter in our journey of discovery and innovation.

LEARNING FOR LIFE PROGRAMME

生活教育课程

The Learning for Life Programme (LLP) Aesthetics at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) immerses students in artsrelated real-life activities, fostering empathy and creative thinking. Through thoughtfully curated experiences, students develop cultural awareness, a sense of rootedness, and a commitment to giving back to the community. In Tier 1, students engage with the arts as both audience members and participants. Key highlights this year included the Arts Festival: Fusionscape, which featured an interest-based workshop for all Secondary Two students. The Secondary One cohort participated in a Design Thinking workshop, where they designed miniature characters, enhancing class unity. Fusionscape was further enriched by the active involvement of staff, students, and Aesthetics Ambassadors, promoting community and self-expression.

Tier Two builds on these experiences, further developing students’ artistic interests and skills. This year, students took part in the DFS X Artists Programme, integrating art, science, and fashion. They explored computer-aided design, basic electronics, and dressmaking, creating prototypes at the Digital Fabrication Space at the Science Centre. Additionally, the team embarked on a collaborative photography project with the Rainbow Centre, celebrating Singapore’s food heritage and inclusivity. Students from both schools will contribute to a food trail photography exhibition, highlighting Singapore’s diverse culinary traditions, culminating in the 60th National Day celebrations. This initiative provides students with opportunities to build friendships and collaborate meaningfully.

CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

品格与公民教育课程

This year, Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) focuses on providing opportunities for students to be ‘Contributing Citizens of Good Character’. Students put the school values into action and demonstrate their social-emotional competencies as well as citizenship dispositions through various platforms such as contributing to various ServiceLearning Projects and serving the schools by participating in various CCE events, such as the National Education Commemorative Days. The cohort thematic approach, encompassing Project Gratitude, Project Integrity, and Project Empathy, is integrated into CCHY’s Service-Learning class projects. This approach enables students to gain diverse experience in planning service-learning projects for various benefciaries, utilising the service-learning methodology. Students were given opportunities to contribute in areas that initially made them uncomfortable, helping them develop and grow in confdence. Every mistake is taken as an opportunity to learn and grow, true to the spirit of the Growth Mindset. To instil a stronger sense of belonging to the school, students were allowed to participate and contribute to various National Education Commemorative Days. The National Day celebration provides an important platform to strengthen the sense of love for Singapore. Students who contributed to such a celebration feel proud to be involved in creating a memorable and meaningful experience for their peers.

With a bumper crop of 61 students (including our Secondary Four Express), the Green Club was able to participate in many more school-based activities this year. Among them were the Secondary Four cohort, who led our partnership with the Northwest CDC to promote energy conservation to residents in nearby blocks. This was coupled with a meaningful visit to the Kallang Waterways Project, where students learnt about the importance of conserving water. Both Learning Journeys were certainly eye-opening and informative as we bid farewell to our 2025 seniors.

Meanwhile, back in school, we have made it a point this year to increase our presence in and around the school with several other student-led initiatives. One of these is our involvement in Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) lessons at a class level, with each Green Club pairing tasked to conduct a CCE lesson. Not only does this have the advantage of bringing the Green Club to the classroom, but it also allows our members to sharpen their communication skills. Along with this annual event, we also visited the Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School next door, where we got to interact with students in a fun activity about the environment. These two events are certainly ones we look forward to each year and we hope to continue with them well into the future.

On a fnal note, we hope to continue initiatives from this year, including the Butterfy Garden and the Bring Your Own (BYO) Container campaign in the school canteen. We hope that these two initiatives will reap rewards for both our membership and the school moving forward.

This year, the Journalism Unit continued to nurture aspiring writers, photographers, and interviewers through hands-on training, collaboration with fellow Co-Curricular Activity (CCAs), and participation in both local and international competitions. Our student journalists proudly represented the school in events such as the Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition 2025 (United Kingdom) and the Our School, Our Story 2025 photo contest by the Ministry of Education. In Term 2, a few of our student-journalists, together with one member of the Multimedia Unit, worked together to create and produce an investigative article and video reel on the Future of Work for the annual Prove It! 2025 Contest organised by the National Library Board (NLB). Beyond the competitions, what truly defnes the Journalism Unit is their teamwork, resilience, and passion. Whether racing against deadlines or covering major school events, they’ve learned to support one another, stay composed under pressure, and uphold high standards in everything we publish. Throughout the year, the Unit worked tirelessly behind the scenes to document school life - crafting stories and capturing moments that refect the heart of Chung Cheng High Yishun (CCHY). Their work featured on the school’s social media platforms has not only informed but also inspired, strengthening the sense of pride and belonging in CCHY’s school community.

The Multimedia Unit prides itself on its professionalism and its ability to deliver customised audiovisual products for school events, both large and small. Respectful and highly accountable, its members are well-trained in handling audiovisual equipment. Students also receive training in photography and videography.

In Semester One, members from both the Multimedia and Journalism Units took part in the LLP (Aesthetics) Tier 2 Photography Course. As part of the programme, they visited Khatib Central and Yishun Hawker Centre to capture visual narratives, engage meaningfully with the community, and develop confdence and social skills. These outings are part of a collaborative photography project between CCHY and the Rainbow Centre to celebrate Singapore’s rich food heritage and spirit of inclusivity. The project culminated in a photo exhibition in celebration of Singapore’s 60th National Day, showcasing the diversity of local food cultures. Through visual storytelling, students managed to highlight culinary traditions, foster cross-cultural appreciation, and strengthen community bonds - while learning the value ofcollaboration and shared storytelling.

The Entrepreneur Club is a dynamic and innovative Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) dedicated to fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and fnancial literacy among its members. Recently, members participated in the “Be Your Own Boss Day” (BYOBD), a sales event held at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun). Teams brainstormed creative ideas, developed products from scratch, and sold them to the school community. The event received a positive response, and it was inspiring to see members gain hands-on experience in sales while building their self-confdence.

For 2025 Values in Action (VIA), members packed goodie bags with thoughtful items as a gesture of appreciation for the for the school cleaners, not forgetting the security guards for their hard work and dedication. This project allows students to practice teamwork and creativity while fostering a sense of gratitude and community within the school.

This year, some Secondary Two to Four students participated in the National Cashfow Challenge, with two members advancing to the fnals. Through this competition, they gained valuable insights into the importance of fnancial planning and management.

In a collaborative activity with visiting students from Surabaya, our members led engaging hands-on activities, including bookmark making, wax seal keychains, and badge crafting. Both groups thoroughly enjoyed the 45-minute sessions. Members also brainstormed designs for tote bags and pencil pouches, which were presented as gifts to the Surabaya visitors. These designs were further used on bags given to CCHY teachers who accompanied students during the National Day Parade (NDP) Parade celebrating SG60 this year. Members will brainstorm additional designs to create more CCHY mementoes.

This year has been a memorable one for the basketball boys, as they participated in the National School Games (NSG) Basketball Competition, and both the C Division and B Division boys did well. Our B Division boys clinched the runner-up spot in the North Zone fnals, while our C Division boys were promoted to League 2 in NSG. Throughout the competition, the boys displayed determination and fghting spirit, as they gave it their all while juggling school work, weighted assessments and competition. In addition to their twice-weekly training sessions, friendlies with other schools were organised for the players to boost their confdence on court, to strengthen their team spirit and prepare them both physically and mentally. The team aims to be among the Top Four in the coming years and will train harder to achieve their goal.

Volleyball: Where Grit Meets Glory

Volleyball is more than just a sport. It is a stage where resilience, teamwork, and passion come alive. Each training session begins with warm-ups, followed by skill drills under Coach Jack’s guidance, ensuring our players are always ready for the challenge. This year, the B Division Girls shone at the National School Games (NSG) with two wins and two losses, showcasing unwavering determination and unity. Their well-coordinated gameplay was a testament to their commitment. The B Division Boys, despite missing out on the fnal rounds, displayed unyielding fghting spirit in a hardfought match against Sembawang Secondary. Their journey is a story of perseverance that goes beyond the scoreboard. A highlight of the year was the rare chance to train with international players from Japan (Yudai Minemura) and Taiwan (Li Chuan Hung), as well as the opportunity to train with other schools organised by JRT Volleyball Academy. Our players learned advanced techniques and drew inspiration from their mentors’ strength and character. At its heart, Volleyball CCA is about building character, fostering camaraderie, and embracing the thrill of every serve and spike. In Wushu, teamwork plays a big part in our journey. As we trained hard for this year’s National School Games (NSG), we supported and encouraged one another every step of the way. Training together with students from cluster schools made the experience even more meaningful, as we built strong friendships and shared tips to improve together. Through our activities and countless hours of practice, we grew closer as a team and pushed ourselves to do our best. The medals we earned and the memories we made show the strength of our bond and the spirit of Wushu we carry.

Scouting has always been about developing good character in our youth. In Chung Cheng High School (Yishun), we offer the Scouts authentic experiences that test their skills and character. In the last few years, our CCA has had camps both in and outside school, with the out-of-school venue being Pulau Ubin. Our Scouts go for hikes regularly in nature reserves not only to earn their progression badges, but also to cultivate an appreciation of nature and build up both mental and physical stamina. To be socially responsible citizens, our Scouts plan and execute their own projects which beneft the community around them. An example of their latest project is their annual neighbourhood clean-up. Scouts who are doing it for the frst time are often surprised by the amount of litter that gets overlooked when the patrols return with bags full of litter from their rounds.

St John Brigade activities vividly embody and amplify our motto, “Pro Fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum” - For the Faith and the Service of Humanity - through our unwavering commitment to community service and humanitarian aid. This year, the Secondary Three cadets participated in the St John Brigade Project IGNITE - Intergenerational Community Engagement, whereby they were deployed to Sree Narayana Mission Nursing Home (Chong Pang) for a period of 3 sessions over three consecutive weeks (once per week). This allows for familiarity and ample time for the cadets to build rapport with the seniors.

This project was also fully planned and implemented by the cadets. Our cadets can serve the community with pride and confdence through this service learning project. The Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) has also consistently achieved Gold for the annual Corp Achievement Award, and cadets are given frst-hand experiences in the Healthcare industry through the Hospital Attachment Programme.

CHINESE DANCE

华族舞蹈团

The Chinese Dance Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) is a warm and dynamic community that celebrates a shared passion for the rich heritage of Chinese dance. Anchored in the values of discipline, teamwork, and cultural appreciation, the CCA seeks to develop confdent and expressive individuals who honour the art form with both heart and precision. In 2025, our dancers took to the stage at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) with a compelling performance titled ‘1942’, a powerful tribute to war heroine Elizabeth Choy. Through expressive choreography, the piece portrayed the resilience and quiet strength she displayed during the harrowing days of World War II. The emotional intensity and historical depth of the performance left a lasting impression on both audience and judges alike.

Their dedication and artistry were recognised with the Certifcate of Distinction at SYF 2025, a testament to the students’ passion, perseverance, and ability to communicate powerful narratives through dance.

Chinese Drama Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) provides a dynamic platform for students to express their creativity and explore societal themes through theatre. Guided by dedicated mentors, students develop essential skills in acting, scriptwriting, and stage production. This year, students showcased their talents in two major performances: ‘The Dream of a Snake’ during the Chinese New Year celebration and ‘Passion’ for the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). Both productions were based on original scripts, primarily written by the students themselves. The creative process allowed students to take ownership of their work and bring unique stories to life on stage. One of the key challenges this year was that many actors and actresses had to take on roles that were very different from their real-life personalities. Through perseverance and guidance, they overcame these challenges and made signifcant progress in their acting abilities. Their performances were heartfelt and impactful, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.

The SYF production also highlighted the strength of our behind-the-scenes team. Our props team designed and produced a wide range of visually engaging and symbolic stage elements, which greatly enhanced the storytelling experience. Chinese Drama CCA is more than just a stage—it is a space for students to grow in creativity, teamwork, and confdence, discovering the power of storytelling and the beauty of dramatic expression.

The Chinese Orchestra and Guzheng Ensemble of Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) is dedicated to promoting the beauty of Chinese classical music and cultivating an appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. Students receive foundational training in traditional Chinese instruments and explore a diverse repertoire—from timeless classical pieces to contemporary pop songs such as Jay Chou’s ‘Mojito’ and ‘Qing Hua Ci’—broadening their musical horizons and connecting tradition with modernity.

Through regular performances and music exchanges, members develop both technical profciency and artistic expression. More than just a musical journey, the ensemble experience emphasises teamwork, discipline, and a shared pursuit of excellence. Students grow not only as musicians but also as cultural ambassadors, preserving and promoting

Chinese musical traditions in today’s world. In 2025, the Chinese Orchestra and Guzheng Ensemble’s passion and dedication culminated in a Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation—a testament to their hard work, talent, and collaborative spirit.

Together, they continue to create a harmonious environment where music bridges generations and traditions are kept alive through every note played.

The Chung Cheng High (Yishun) Choir is a tightly knitted, exceptionally enthusiastic student body comprising both male and female choristers. We are a choir with high aspirations, working diligently to produce exceptional quality, and we know how to have fun.

The choir’s goals are three-pronged. The key aim is to nurture a love for music and develop the student’s mastery in choral singing. Our participation in the Singapore Youth Festival and frequent exchange programmes with other schools refnes vocal techniques and develops performance etiquette. The programme includes exposure to musicals and performances at the Esplanade by local and foreign artistes. Providing opportunity for personal growth is another key tenet. The choir encourages each individual to take up leadership roles. Students run programmes and develop areas of competency beyond aspects of musicianship. Lastly, being involved in community service is an important conduit to developing empathy and making a difference in others’ lives. Aside from all this serious work, we enjoy having fun and having a great time at what we do.

SECONDARY ONE COHORT EXPERIENCES

The Secondary One cohort has had a transformative and enriching year, with every experience designed to foster personal growth, teamwork, and creativity. From the cohort camp in May where students bonded through dragon boating, climbing, and a memorable campfre, to the collaborative spirit at the Arts Festival: Fusionscape, every event reinforced the power of friendships and peer support. Year Heads Ms Wong and Mr Udaya remind every student that this journey is just the beginning. Embrace the lessons learned, continue to uplift one another, and always value the power of friendship. Together, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

SECONDARY TWO COHORT EXPERIENCES

中二年级的学习体验

The Secondary Two cohort has had an inspiring year, shaped by the theme “Managing Self and Leading Peers with Empathy”. Through enriching activities like the Learning Journey to the National Museum, a Kompang workshop, and their Values in Action at Reduce@Northwest, students explored new perspectives and learned to lead with compassion. The “Honouring Relationships and Leading with Empathy” workshop helped them develop emotional awareness, resilience, and positive peer connections. The Arts Festival: Fusionscape encouraged creativity, culminating in a collaborative beatboxing session that united the cohort. Year Heads Ms Wong and Mr Udaya remind students that these experiences are stepping stones in their growth journey. Embrace challenges with a growth mindset, continue evolving, and remember that every experience adds to your strength and potential for the future.

SECONDARY THREE COHORT EXPERIENCES

中三年级的学习体验

Our Secondary Three students have made 2025 special, embodying their cohort focus ‘Synergise and Lead’ in everything they do. During their joint camp with Yishun Secondary, we witnessed leadership bloom through teamwork and friendship. As our pioneering Full Subject-Based Banding cohort, they have woven a tapestry of meaningful relationships that spans across all learning paths. By spearheading community projects, these young leaders have discovered that their greatest strength lies in uplifting others.

Year Heads Ms P.Kallaivanee and Mrs Irene Tan encourage students to build strong friendships and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth in their continuing journey ahead.

SECONDARY FOUR AND FIVE COHORT EXPERIENCES

中四中五年级的学习体验

Our Secondary Four and Five students have exemplifed their cohort focus ‘Synergise and Strive’ throughout 2025. They have embraced a growth mindset, turning challenges into opportunities for learning. Their cohort bonding activities have strengthened unity, while visits to Nanyang Polytechnic and Education and Career Guidance (ECG) engagement sessions have broadened their post-secondary perspectives. Through collaborative study sessions and peer support, they have demonstrated that success comes from working together.

Year Heads Ms P.Kallaivanee and Mrs Irene Tan wish them strength and confdence in their national examinations, knowing that their growth mindset and mutual support will pave the way to success.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM

中正教职员专业发展

The Professional Development Team (PDT), comprising the School Staff Developer (SSD), Senior Teachers (STs), and Lead Teachers (LTs), continues to drive our school’s transformation into a thriving Professional Learning Community (PLC). In 2025, our school’s PD direction focuses on e-pedagogy, equipping teachers with the knowledge and strategies to harness technology for more engaging and effective learning experiences.

To support this, we have established Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), where teachers collaborate to design and implement e-pedagogy strategies tailored to their subject areas. Through a common approach and differentiated pathways aligned with the Teacher Growth Model, our school-wide training ensures that all educators, regardless of experience, can meaningfully integrate digital tools into their lessons. Staff attending

To deepen our expertise, we also invited a Master Teacher to share insights on e-pedagogy, enriching our collective understanding and application of digital teaching strategies. By bridging theory and practice, our teachers continuously refne their instructional approaches, fostering innovation and improving student learning outcomes. Through this collective commitment to professional growth, we empower every educator to make learning more accessible, engaging, and future-ready for our students.

Staff from Rainbow Centre sharing strategies to support students with Attention Defcit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

To support our teachers’ social and emotional well-being, we hosted our popular Monthly Retail Therapy sessions, bringing in diverse retail vendors right into the school for convenient and enjoyable shopping breaks. These sessions offered staff a chance to unwind, explore new products, and treat themselves amid their demanding schedules. Teachers were also encouraged to explore their personal passions through various interest groups, building camaraderie while pursuing hobbies together. In the spirit of caring for the staff community, SWC organised birthday celebrations and potluck gatherings, providing opportunities for staff to show support for one another and enjoy each other’s company through shared food and fellowship.

The year concluded with a well-deserved staff retreat, a day dedicated to rest, refection, and relationship-building. With laughter, good food, and heartfelt conversations, it was a celebration of the commitment and care our staff consistently show throughout the year.

STAFF WELFARE IN CHUNG CHENG

中正教职员福利

The Staff Well-Being Committee (SWC) at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) remains committed to creating a positive, nurturing, and holistic work environment for all staff. Guided by the pillars of Social, Physical, Intellectual, Community, and Emotional (SPICE) wellbeing, our activities are thoughtfully curated to support our teachers in both their personal and professional journeys. Throughout the year, staff enjoyed a range of wellness activities designed to promote healthier lifestyles and build stronger connections. Our longrunning Fruits Day continued to be a monthly highlight— providing staff with delicious, nutrient-rich fruits while encouraging healthy dietary habits. Recognising that growth extends beyond the classroom, we organised Learning Journeys to enrich the intellectual and cultural lives of our teachers. We introduced a scenic walk along the Mandai Boardwalk on 4 April 2025, blending physical activity with the rejuvenating beauty of nature.

“Not long ago, we were lost when entering Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) as new students to start afresh. Now, we’ve learned and grown over the years, with better skills and knowledge, all while feeling like it was still yesterday when we joined the school. We’re truly grateful to the teachers who have guided and supported us to get us to where we are now. Even if we are an extremely rowdy bunch, they’ve never once given up on us!”

- Guo En, 4C

“Our time at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) has been a journey of growth marked by its challenges, quiet triumphs and moments of refection. While the experience was far from perfect, it taught us resilience, maturity and the value of perseverance. We are grateful for the lessons learned, both academic and personal, and for the people who have shaped our paths. It wasn’t always easy, but it was undeniably meaningful.”

“These past four years at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) CCHY have been a journey of growth, discovery and unforgettable memories. Through ups and downs, we built lasting friendships and found strength in the care and guidance of our teachers. The laughter we have shared and the lessons we learnt have shaped us into who we are today. We are proud to call CCHY our second home. Special thanks to Mr Rudi and Ms Teo for their unwavering support and dedication over the past two years.” - Kesler Lim, 4D

“Thank you to all the teachers who have guided us over the past four years. We know we have not always been the easiest students to teach, and at times, we may have tested your patience. But deep down, we know how much you care for us, and we are truly grateful for your kindness, dedication and the countless times you corrected us with patience and grace. As we graduate, we will uphold the school value of 饮水思源 and strive to make CCHY proud through our actions.” - Megan Toh, 4D

“I really feel connected to 4E as we’ve weathered through storms together, laughed boisterously together and more times than I would like to admit, irritated the teachers together. I am grateful to have 4E as my graduating class, as we have such a supportive and warm community that never fails to bring each other up, be it academically or mentally. This family of ours is not only thanks to the students, but also our teachers who go the extra mile to make lessons fun and engaging.” - Ng Jian Yuan, 4E

“In class 4E, being a triple science class, we enjoy the variety of lessons which are both enriching and interesting. Although classes get rowdy at times, we always strive to improve in terms of character and education. The extensive and insightful teaching done by our wonderful teachers aids us to grasp important concepts of each subject and subsequently excel academically. I feel greatly appreciative of the supportive teachers and peers guiding me throughout my graduating year in 4E.”

“4F is like a supportive family, where everyone gives their best and is always ready to help one another. One of our greatest strengths is how naturally we work together—whether in group projects or simply sharing ideas in class. We’ve enjoyed many positive experiences, from celebrating small wins to learning from each other’s perspectives. What truly makes our class special is the unity and encouragement we’ve built, making lessons more meaningful and helping us grow together.”

- Yim Seo Hee Kayden, 4F

“Looking back, our journey together has been flled with countless moments, both big and small, that made these years so meaningful. I’ll always remember the laughter and chatter between lessons, and how we pulled through all the examination together. There were tough times, but those challenges revealed the best in us and helped us forge stronger friendships. These memories make 4F more than just a class—they make it a part of who we are. We may be a playful bunch, but perhaps that’s what made us truly unforgettable. We’ve shared plenty of laughter with one another—and even with our teachers too!”

“ Not so long ago, we were counting down the days to the end. Now, it feels bittersweet to say goodbye. Quietude marked our journey, but we were never spiritless. We found a way to push each other to our best ability and somehow remained united as one. Thank you to our teachers, who believed in us and never once doubted us. The memories we made in Chung Cheng will always be a special part of our journey.”

In moments of struggle, we found strength in one another, and in moments of joy, we grew closer to one another. To our teachers, whose dedication, patience and unwavering belief shaped us, we extend our deepest gratitude for making our Chung Cheng journey truly enduring, indelible, and transformative.” - Mehreen Niyas, 4H

“Secondary Five may not be the path most people dream of, but for me, it became a journey of growth and strength. This experience shaped me into who I am today, and I am deeply grateful for it. In my class, we pushed forward together, never letting setbacks defne us. Whenever someone lost motivation, we stood by them, lifting each other and reminding one another of our shared goals. This journey taught me that with perseverance, unity and belief in ourselves, no obstacle is too great to overcome.”

- Thien Xiu Ji, 5D

“During my time at Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) (CCHY), I experienced many things, such as moments spent with friends and the nervousness before examinations. I had the opportunity to participate in different competitions and events. Although I did not always get good results, I cherished the rich and colourful process, and I felt honoured and happy to have won a place in the Live On Festival Essay Writing Competition. I am, of course, very grateful to our teachers, who guided us when we were lost and helped us when we were at a low point. They are an indispensable part of our academic journey, allowing us to grow into better versions of ourselves. 爱我中正, 由我开始!”

Peer Support Leaders OHANA.

At Chung Cheng High School (Yishun), Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) play a pivotal role in nurturing a caring, inclusive, and connected school environment. This year, the PSLs introduced the Classroom Support Initiative, held twice a term, where they conducted activities to strengthen peer relationships and promote emotional well-being. The team also actively champions mental health awareness, encouraging a culture of openness and support among students.

For Syazrin, President of PSL, the experience has been the most memorable part of her secondary school journey. “I’ve learnt invaluable skills like peer helping and infuencing, and had the opportunity to lead and nurture others,” she shares.

Vice-President Sherrell Teo adds, “PSL is more than a leadership role—it’s a community built on empathy, connection, and growth. It’s about helping others realise their potential.”

Through their dedication, the PSLs make a lasting impact on the school community.

Preparing our leaders to take on their role.

Our School Ambassadors are more than just student leaders — they are the friendly faces of the school, dedicated to engaging the public and sharing the spirit of Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) (CCHY). Whether they are participating in the School Outreach Programme, guiding visitors around during campus tours, or welcoming guests during Open House, our School Ambassadors take pride in serving with passion and sincerity.

“Being part of the School Ambassadors has defnitely been one of the most meaningful experiences of my school life in CCHY. I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the school community through initiatives like planning and running our school’s annual Open House, and I’m proud to share our school’s uniqueness through the Primary School Outreach Programme.

Leading the School Ambassadors as President has been both an honour and a learning experience for many of us. I’ve grown so much through the experiences and the people I’ve worked with. I want to thank our teacher-incharge, Ms Edina Rahman, for her unwavering support and guidance, as well as the entire School Ambassador community. It’s been a joy to represent the school and to have worked with passionate peers and an incredible committee.”

At Chung Cheng High School (Yishun), our National Education (NE) Ambassadors play a key role in deepening students’ understanding of what it means to be Singaporean. This year, they collaborated with the Uniformed Groups to lead engaging activities for Total Defence Day, thereby strengthening students’ understanding of the challenges our nation faces.

They also led initiatives for International Friendship Day, Racial Harmony Day, and National Day, and delivered key messages that encouraged refection and unity. Their efforts foster a sense of belonging among students, while inspiring a will to act through active participation and student-led outreach.

Most importantly, the NE Ambassadors embody a sense of hope—believing in Singapore’s future and their role in shaping it. Through their service, they help bring National Education to life, one meaningful moment at a time.

This year, our school café has grown into a lively hub of creativity and favour. We proudly introduced a Gourmet Team, offering freshly baked treats like do-it-yourself ice cream and waffes that have quickly become a student favourite. Alongside our classic offerings, we have crafted a range of non-caffeinated drinks—including the vibrant Blue Lagoon and indulgent Oreo Bliss—which have been very well received by students. Our café also celebrates special occasions with themed openings, such as International Friendship Day and Hari Raya, featuring unique seasonal drinks like the refreshing Apple Pop. It is more than just a café—it is a place where good vibes and great favours come together! Below are the testimonials from our members.

“As Head Barista at Our Coffee Story Café, I gained valuable experience in leadership and teamwork. Initially hesitant, my passion for coffee and community drove me to excel. Welcoming students from Indonesia was a highlight, showcasing our team’s pride and professionalism. I’m grateful for the opportunity and hope the legacy of dedication and unity will continue to thrive as I step down.”- Kaiser Tan, 4D

“Being part of the school’s gourmet team has given me many opportunities to expand my creativity, especially through behind-the-scenes preparations. It has also allowed me to work closely with my team, as we brainstorm new menu ideas for the café and collaborate on projects like designing the team T-shirt. This experience has truly been an awarding one that I would like to stick with till the end of my Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) journey and one that I would highly recommend to my peers!”
