Teaching Reading to be Enjoyable Luna McCauley There are many ways that parents can help their children develop a love for reading. One of the most important parts of reading comprehension is having background knowledge on the subject (Willingham, 2015). Parents can help build background knowledge on a topic by taking their kids to museums, playing games with them, and showing curiosity in the world themselves. Parents can also integrate reading into their childrens’ daily life in order to help them become better readers. Helping demonstrate that reading can be an enjoyable and entertaining activity is critical to teaching children to love it. By helping to develop a child’s knowledge of a variety of topics, reading with them, making reading fun, and more, parents can help their children become better readers while also making it an enjoyable daily hobby.
