Comprehensive Methods of Teaching Reading in K-1 Students

The method used to teach children to read and the environment in which they are taught is crucial to their level of reading ability. Having a school and home environment which encourages curiosity around language and learning have been proven crucial when it concerns developing reading skills in young children (Hulme et al, 2015). There needs to be a longitudinal study done on how home and school environments affect reading ability as students age and surpass lower elementary grades. With or without a diagnosis of dyslexia, there must be a diverse and curious classroom setting that cultivates curiosity to best stimulate learning and accumulation of skill.
