HOLLAND MONTEE

TRAILBLAZING DESIGNER & CEO: MONTEE

TAYION HOLLAND, REDEFINING LUXURY MENSWEAR

Montee Holland’s journey to becoming one of the most notable figures in men’s fashion is a story of resilience, determination, and an unyielding commitment to his vision. From his early fascination with sharp suits and polished looks in his Detroit hometown to his current position as the designer behind the flourishing Tayion Collection and his recent collaboration with Macy’s Divine Nine Collection, Holland has consistently broken barriers and set new standards for what menswear can achieve.

A Fashion Enthusiast from the Start

Growing up in Detroit, Holland was captivated by the sartorial elegance of his high school coaches and local businessmen. Their polished suits and impeccable style made a lasting impression on him, sparking a lifelong interest in fashion. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Japan. It was there, among the local tailors and fabric shops, that he began experimenting with custom suits. What started as a personal passion for designing his own clothes quickly evolved into something greater.

Upon returning to the United States, Holland continued to hone his skills while working in pharmaceuticals. He became known among friends and family for his unique style and custom-made suits, which featured bold colors, intricate patterns, and a level of quality that set him apart. As his designs gained recognition, it became clear that his talents needed a broader platform.

Building the Tayion Collection

In 2003, Holland took a leap of faith and left his corporate job to launch The Tayion Collection, a men’s fashion line that combined classic tailoring with vibrant, modern designs. He debuted his collection at the Magic Las Vegas Convention, one of the fashion industry’s most prestigious trade shows. Despite having no formal training or connections, Holland’s booth attracted attention for its distinctive style and craftsmanship.

His big break came when TV personality Steve Harvey, who was also at the convention promoting his own collection, took notice of Holland’s work. Impressed by his eye for design, Harvey offered his support, helping Holland secure valuable industry connections. This partnership provided

Holland with the resources he needed to take The Tayion Collection to the next level, introducing his suits to a broader audience.

Over the years, Holland’s brand has become synonymous with quality and sophistication, attracting a diverse clientele that includes professional athletes, mega-pastors, and fashion-forward individuals seeking something beyond the ordinary. His meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach to design have made Tayion suits a staple for those who value style and substance.

Overcoming Industry Challenges

As his brand gained momentum, Holland faced a new challenge: counterfeit versions of his designs began appearing at trade shows and in stores. Rather than becoming discouraged, he saw this as an opportunity to innovate. He responded by launching T-Fusion, a more affordable line that maintained the same design ethos as The Tayion Collection but utilized less expensive fabrics. This strategic move allowed him to reach a broader market without compromising his brand’s identity.

Holland also navigated the complexities of licensing and distribution, teaching himself the intricacies of running a business while maintaining his focus on design. His ability to balance both the creative and business aspects of his company is a testament to his versatility and determination.

LEADING THE WAY IN FASHION INNOVATION WITH THE TAYION COLLECTION

AND MACY’S DIVINE NINE COLLABORATION

The Partnership with Macy’s and the Divine Nine Collection

In recent years, Holland’s partnership with Macy’s has been a significant milestone for his career and brand. In 2019, The Tayion Collection was selected to participate in Macy’s exclusive business development program, The Workshop at Macy’s, which aims to nurture and support underrepresented entrepreneurs in the fashion industry. This opportunity allowed Holland to further refine his business strategy and expand his brand’s reach.

Through this collaboration, Holland was introduced to Macy’s executive team, which led to his involvement in one of the retailer’s most culturally significant projects: the Divine Nine Collection. Launched in 2024, this menswear collection honors the history and legacy of the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s historically Black fraternities, known as the Divine Nine. These organizations have played a pivotal role in shaping Black collegiate life and fostering leadership, community service, and academic excellence since the 1930s.

As a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Holland understood the importance of creating a collection that authentically represented each organization’s identity. His designs feature the signature colors and symbols of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. The collection includes a range of sophisticated polos, blazers, cardigans, and accessories that speak to the rich heritage and proud traditions of each fraternity.

“I still get pumped up as much now as I did when I first started making my own suits,” -Montee Holland

Elevating Fashion and Cultural Representation

The Divine Nine Collection has resonated with a broad audience, providing members of these esteemed fraternities with the opportunity to express their pride and personal style through high-quality menswear. The line’s success is a reflection of Holland’s ability to merge fashion with cultural significance, creating pieces that

are both stylish and meaningful.

The partnership has also positioned Holland as a trailblazer in the industry, paving the way for other Black designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their talents on a national stage. As part of Macy’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, the retailer has pledged substantial donations to the foundations

selected by the Divine Nine fraternities, helping to support education, research, and community development.

“Macy’s dedication to supporting underrepresented communities is more than just words—it’s action. Their investment in the Divine Nine Collection and their partnership with The Tayion Collection is a powerful statement about the importance of representation and equity in fashion,” Holland remarked.

Looking to the Future

With the success of The Tayion Collection and his ongoing collaboration with Macy’s, Holland is setting his sights even higher. He recently secured a $10 million line of credit to support the expansion of his brand, which includes opening new specialty stores and increasing his team size. His goal is to make The Tayion Collection a household name, synonymous with elegance, quality, and a deep appreciation for the cultural influences that shape fashion.

Holland’s vision extends beyond his own brand. He hopes to bring more fashion manufacturing to Detroit, transforming his hometown into a hub for the industry. He believes that the infrastructure and skilled workforce that have long supported the auto industry can also support fashion manufacturing and distribution.

“Detroit is a city with a rich history and so much potential,” he said. “I want to see it become a place where fashion brands come to create, produce, and distribute. I believe we can make that happen.”

Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Montee Holland’s story is one of perseverance, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. From his early days in Detroit to his current position as a leader in men’s fashion, Holland has remained true to his vision of creating sophisticated, high-quality garments that reflect his unique perspective and commitment to his community.

With The Tayion Collection and his work with Macy’s Divine Nine Collection, Holland is not just designing clothes—he’s creating a legacy. A legacy that celebrates culture, champions diversity, and inspires the next generation of designers to dream big and pursue their passions.

As he continues to break new ground in the fashion world, one thing is certain: Montee Holland is just getting started. And the best is yet to come.

LEADING FULTON COUNTY’S RENAISSANCE

Photographer: Geno Frost @genosmaps
MANUEL DAVID

David Manuel has long been a guiding force in the Atlanta arts community, contributing not just through his leadership but also through a deep passion for creative expression and community empowerment. As the Director of Arts and Culture for Fulton County, he is determined to make Atlanta a prominent hub for arts and fashion on a global scale. His efforts, particularly through the Fashion, Arts, Culture, and Education (FACE) initiative, have transformed Fulton County into a vibrant epicenter for creativity and artistic innovation. FACE has impacted countless lives, providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for local talent to thrive.

Manuel’s journey of resilience and gratitude has only fueled his dedication to his role. A liver transplant recipient, he understands the value of life and the significance of second chances. This experience has given him a unique perspective on the importance of giving back to the community, and he uses his platform to inspire others to do the same. His story is not just about overcoming personal adversity but about using that experience as a catalyst to bring about meaningful change.

An Advocate for the Arts and a Champion for Change

From the moment Manuel took on his role as Director of Arts and Culture, he envisioned a department that would be an inclusive platform for all forms of artistic expression, a place where emerging artists and seasoned creatives could come together to shape the cultural landscape of Fulton County. One of his first initiatives was to engage with the county commissioners to understand their goals for the arts in the community. This collaborative approach resulted in the formation of FACE, a groundbreaking initiative designed to merge fashion, art, and education.

THE DIRECTOR OF ARTS AND CULTURE FOR FULTON COUNTY

The FACE initiative, launched in 2022, has already made a significant impact in a short period. Manuel and his team curated 40 days of programming during its inaugural year, focusing on the intersections of fashion, visual arts, and cultural education. From hosting film festivals and fashion events to creating teen talk sessions with local celebrities like T.I. and Kenny Burns, FACE has provided a platform for young people to explore their artistic interests while connecting them with industry leaders.

One of the standout events organized by FACE is the “Fashion Brunch and Beats” series, which brings together students from local institutions like Clark Atlanta University and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to showcase their designs in a professional setting. This event has not only highlighted the talents of aspiring designers but has also created a space for networking and mentorship, paving the way for future careers in fashion and design.

Fostering Future Leaders in Fashion

David Manuel’s dedication to nurturing young talent is perhaps best exemplified by the FACE program’s international reach. In its second year, FACE sponsored two fashion students to attend Paris Fashion Week, an opportunity that many only dream of. This experience exposed the students to the inner workings of the fashion industry, from trend forecasting to sustainable design practices. For Amari Franklin, one of the students chosen for the program, the trip was life-changing.

Franklin, who was paralyzed in a road-rage shooting, had to reimagine her approach to fashion. The challenges she faced in her daily life motivated her to design clothing that is both functional and fashionable for people with disabilities. Her time in Paris provided her with invaluable insights and a chance to see the work of designers who were breaking boundaries in the industry. Today, Franklin is working toward launching her own brand, with a focus on creating adaptive clothing that celebrates individuality and style.

“FACE gave me a family and a support system that I didn’t know I needed,” Franklin said. “They’re actually trying to help the younger community reach their dreams, and for them to be able to open that door for us is a beautiful thing.”

Expanding the Vision of Arts and Culture

Under Manuel’s leadership, FACE has continued to expand, consolidating its events to coincide with major cultural celebrations such as Atlanta Art Week and Atlanta Fashion Week. The focus now is on creating immersive experiences that not only entertain but also educate the community about the role of arts and fashion in economic development. By partnering with local schools, businesses, and other stakeholders, Manuel has positioned Fulton County as a competitive player in the global fashion and arts scene.

The FACE program’s annual “FACES of Fashion” event is a testament to this effort. This high-profile gathering honors local fashion icons while serving as a fundraiser to support the next generation of designers and artists. The event has become a staple in Atlanta’s cultural calendar, drawing attention to the talent and creativity that exist within the community.

Manuel’s vision extends beyond fashion. He sees the arts as a powerful tool for economic growth and social cohesion. His efforts have created new job opportunities, supported local businesses, and inspired countless individuals to pursue their creative passions.

Leveraging Partnerships for Greater Impact

The success of the FACE initiative is largely due to Manuel’s ability to build and leverage partnerships within the community. By collaborating with organizations like Atlanta Fashion Week and Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week, FACE has brought attention to sustainable practices in the fashion industry. Through these partnerships, students have been challenged to create clothing from repurposed materials, showcasing how sustainability and creativity can go hand-in-hand. Additionally, the initiative’s collaboration with local government and educational institutions has allowed it to reach a broader audience. Manuel’s approach has been to bring the arts directly to the people, whether through programming at neighborhood arts centers or through public art installations.

A Personal Mission of Gratitude and Advocacy

Beyond his professional accomplishments, David Manuel’s life story is one of gratitude and advocacy. As a certified mentor for the Georgia Transplant Foundation, he is committed to raising awareness about the importance of organ donation, especially within minority communities. Manuel’s experience as a liver transplant recipient has shaped his outlook on life and motivated him to make the most of his second chance.

“When I think about the work we’re doing through FACE, it’s about more than just fashion and art—it’s about legacy,” Manuel explained. “It’s about giving people opportunities they might not have had otherwise and making sure that the arts continue to be a vibrant part of our community.”

Looking to the Future

As David Manuel continues to lead the Fulton County Arts and Culture Department, his vision for FACE is as ambitious as ever. He envisions Fulton County as a place where the arts are celebrated and where people of all backgrounds can come together to create, innovate, and inspire. With plans to expand the initiative’s reach and deepen its impact, FACE is poised to set a new standard for arts programming in the region.

\ In a world that often prioritizes practicality over creativity, Manuel’s work serves as a reminder of the transformative power of the arts. Through FACE, he has not only enriched the cultural fabric of Fulton County but has also created a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. His story is a testament to the impact that one person can have when they are driven by passion, purpose, and a genuine desire to uplift their community.

“When I think about the work we’re doing through FACE, it’s about more than just fashion and art—it’s about legacy,” -David Manuel

FACEs of Fashion: Reflecting on A Celestial Experience

One of FACE’s most anticipated annual events, the FACEs of Fashion: A Celestial Experience, recently took place and captivated the community with its dazzling blend of style, artistry, and celebration. Hosted at the Fulton County Government Center, the event featured a stunning runway show, visual performances, and a reception that brought together local and national talent.

The event, which marked the kickoff for the FACE 2024 Experience, showcased collections from celebrated designers like Avnah Collection, Afreen Khundmir, Threads by Tre, Kailynn Washington, Olivia Reuter, Aakofii, and the Miguel Wilson Collection. The night was hosted by esteemed director and photographer Derek Blanks, alongside supermodel and television personality Toccara Jones. Attendees were treated to an evening that celebrated not just fashion, but the artistic innovation that makes Fulton County a unique player in the global fashion industry.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to Atlanta’s fashion and entertainment scenes. Honorees included Angela Watts, Jim Alexander, Munson Steed, Randy Davidson, and the legendary CeeLo Green. The celebration underscored the transformative impact these individuals have had on the cultural landscape of Atlanta and the broader creative community.

Proceeds from the event benefited educational and arts programs for students across Fulton County, reinforcing FACE’s mission to inspire and support the next generation of artists and fashion professionals.

“Through FACE and the work of Arts & Culture, residents are able to connect with fashion industry experts who can demonstrate first-hand the benefits of fashion, art, and education,” said Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robb Pitts. “Fulton County understands the importance of not only supporting the arts but recognizing its economic impact on our community.”

20 Days of Fashion: Celebrating Creativity and Community Engagement

The FACEs of Fashion event was part of the larger FACE 2024 Experience, which spanned 20 days of fashion-focused programming throughout South and North Fulton County. The initiative featured a series of culturally enriching events, including panel discussions, fashion shows, film screenings, and workshops designed to build connections across the art and fashion communities.

“This year’s FACE initiative brought together a wide range of cultural art experiences with a focus on high fashion,” said David Manuel. “Our goal is to serve as the foundation needed to inspire art lovers and springboard the next generation of those interested in pursuing careers in fashion, art, and culture.”

The FACE 2024 Experience was made possible through partnerships with a diverse group of organizations, including the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Clark Atlanta University (CAU), Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and fashion industry giants like Puma. These collaborations have enabled FACE to extend its reach and provide a platform for creatives from all walks of life to showcase their talents and build lasting professional networks.

A LEGACY OF EMPOWERMENT AND CREATIVITY

FACE’s Continued Commitment to Community Impact

David Manuel’s vision for FACE is not just about celebrating creativity; it’s about fostering a thriving creative economy that benefits the entire community. Through events like FACEs of Fashion and the wider FACE Experience, Fulton County’s Arts and Culture department has helped raise awareness about the vital role that arts and fashion play in community development.

“When you think of government, the last thing you think about is arts and culture,” Manuel explained. “People usually think about fixing potholes or making sure sanitation is handled, but what we’re doing is elevating the arts and showing that industries like fashion and film can significantly contribute to the community’s economic growth.”

One of FACE’s most successful initiatives has been the international exposure it provides to young fashion students. Last year, two fashion students from Clark Atlanta University were given the opportunity to attend Paris Fashion Week, where they connected with global industry leaders and gained invaluable insights into the world of high fashion. This experience not only broadened their perspectives but also laid the groundwork for their future careers.

Plans include introducing new programming and deepening existing partnerships to ensure that Fulton County remains a leader in the arts and culture sector.

The upcoming FACE 2025 Experience will aim to build on the momentum of previous years, consolidating events into a two-week period around major cultural celebrations such as Atlanta Art Week and Atlanta Fashion Week. The initiative will feature a variety of exhibits, workshops, and fashion showcases that will highlight the best of Fulton County’s artistic community.

“GOAT BY JAMES KING”

Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Inspiration: GOAT by James King Sets a New Standard in Classic American Style

Founded in 2018 by Atlanta native Quintin Crumpler, GOAT by James King is more than just a clothing brand; it’s a celebration of classic American style infused with a modern sensibility and a deep commitment to purpose, passion, and perseverance. With a focus on preserving timeless designs while creating fresh interpretations of prep, sportswear, and tailoring, the brand has quickly gained recognition as a leader in lifestyle fashion. From its debut, GOAT by James King has established itself as a name to watch in the fashion world, with features in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, JET Magazine, and GQ British Magazine, to name a few.

Quintin Crumpler, the creative force behind the brand, is not your typical fashion designer. Raised on the southside of Atlanta, he had no formal background in design. However, his passion for clothing and keen eye for detail led him to launch his first brand in 2007. Through a series of pivots and iterations over the years, Crumpler finally landed on GOAT by James King—a brand that embodies his vision of timeless, premium apparel and represents his personal convictions. The name itself, GOAT, an acronym for “Greatest of All Time,” symbolizes Crumpler’s ambition to create a brand that transcends fleeting trends and stands as a beacon of quality and enduring style.

GOAT by James King pays homage to the past while charting a course for the future of fashion. Each collection is meticulously crafted, with designs that evoke the elegance of classic American style while remaining contemporary and accessible. Quintin’s commitment to excellence is evident in every stitch and silhouette, with each piece critiqued under the guiding question: “Will this design still be relevant in terms of quality and aesthetics 50 years from now?” This rigorous standard is what sets GOAT by James King apart, ensuring that every item produced is not only stylish but also built to last.

Quintin’s journey with GOAT by James King took a pivotal turn just five months after launching the brand. His 13-month-old son was diagnosed with Stage 4 Germ Cell cancer—a moment that rocked his world and made him question his ability to continue pursuing his dreams. Initially overwhelmed by the devastating news, Quintin considered giving up on the brand entirely. However, he chose to place his faith in God and continued pushing forward. After a long and arduous battle, his son was miraculously healed, providing Quintin with an even stronger sense of purpose and determination. This personal journey has become an integral part of the GOAT by James King narrative, serving as a reminder that every piece is a testament to resilience, faith, and the pursuit of one’s purpose.

“Will this design still be relevant in terms of quality and aesthetics 50 years from now now?”

“GOAT by James King is not just about clothes,” Quintin explains. “It’s about inspiring generations to live a life of purpose, passion, and perseverance through timeless, authentic, and meaningful style.” This mission is woven into every collection, influencing both the designs and the overall brand ethos. From tailored blazers and crisp button-downs to refined sportswear and elevated casual pieces, GOAT by James King offers a curated wardrobe for those who appreciate understated luxury and classic sophistication.

Despite being a relatively new player in the industry, GOAT by James King has already carved out a niche for itself, with a loyal following that includes style enthusiasts and tastemakers alike. One of the brand’s strengths is its ability to reimagine traditional prep fashion with an untraditional twist, blending influences from Quintin’s Southern upbringing with a modern, urban edge. This unique fusion results in collections that are both familiar and unexpected, appealing to a broad audience that values versatility and timeless appeal.

” GOAT BY JAMES KING IS NOT JUST ABOUT CLOTHES,” “IT’S A LIFESTYLE “

Quintin’s vision for GOAT by James King extends beyond creating beautiful clothes. He is passionate about changing the narrative around black-owned fashion brands, which often face unwarranted stigmas and limitations. “There’s a negative stigma that says black-owned brands won’t last long or that they’re only suited for certain categories,” Quintin notes. “GOAT by James King was created in part to break that stigma and prove that we can create classic, luxury products that stand the test of time.”

This determination to redefine perceptions is reflected in every aspect of the brand, from the high-quality materials used to the thoughtful, intentional design process. By focusing on sustainability and ensuring that each piece is as enduring as it is stylish, Quintin is building a legacy that will live on for generations. His attention to detail, coupled with a deep respect for the craftsmanship and artistry of fashion, has allowed GOAT by James King to make a mark in an industry often dominated by fleeting trends.

“GOAT by James King is not just about clothes,” Quintin explains. “It’s about inspiring generations to live a life of purpose, passion, and perseverance through timeless, authentic, and meaningful style.”

GOAT by James King’s vision is clear: to become the most compelling global leader in premium products by inspiring others through its timeless, authentic, and meaningful style. Quintin’s dedication to this vision is evident in every piece he creates, and his journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring designers and entrepreneurs everywhere. As the brand continues to grow and evolve, it remains true to its roots—celebrating the classics while boldly stepping into the future.

In addition to his role as the creative director of GOAT by James King, Quintin is a devoted family man. He is married with four children—three girls and one boy—who serve as a constant source of motivation and joy. Balancing the demands of running a successful fashion brand with family life is no small feat, but Quintin manages to do it with grace and gratitude. His experiences as a father have deeply influenced his approach to business, reminding him of the importance of perseverance, love, and integrity in all that he does.

Looking ahead, Quintin has big plans for GOAT by James King. He envisions expanding the brand’s reach, opening flagship

stores in key fashion capitals, and continuing to inspire people around the world to embrace a life of purpose and passion. “I want people to see GOAT by James King and know that it’s more than just clothing—it’s a lifestyle,” he shares. “It’s about wearing something that resonates with who you are and where you want to go.”

STILL OUT !

In a fashion industry that often leans on tradition and predefined gender norms, Jason Scott is a breath of fresh air. His non-binary label, Verdict Still Out, is rewriting the rulebook, placing individuality and self-expression at the forefront of its design ethos. Since its launch in Fall 2018, Verdict Still Out has quickly garnered attention for its bold approach, which challenges conventional definitions of gendered fashion. Today, it stands as a symbol of authenticity, inclusivity, and innovation, redefining what it means to be stylish in the modern world.

Jason Scott’s journey into the fashion industry is as unique as the brand he has built. Before creating Verdict Still Out, Scott owned a boutique called La Bella Vie in the bustling Peter Street district of Atlanta. Specializing in custom pieces, the boutique quickly became a local favorite, known for its ability to deliver distinct and personalized designs. However, it wasn’t long before Scott realized that his true passion lay in creating original clothing that broke free from conventional fashion molds.

In pursuit of his creative vision, Scott enrolled at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, where he further honed his skills and began to establish a clear direction for his brand. After graduating, Scott launched his first high-fashion line, ByJloren, which catered to women who sought bold, statement-making pieces. The line’s success was almost immediate, with pieces gracing the pages of top fashion publications and being worn by celebrities such as Taraji P. Henson, Janice Dickinson, and Tyra Banks. Despite its success, Scott felt constrained by the expectations of traditional fashion and yearned for a brand that celebrated individuality on a deeper level.

SCOTT JASON

In 2018, he took a leap of faith and introduced Verdict Still Out, a non-binary fashion label that embraced a fluid and inclusive approach to clothing. “We don’t believe in fitting into predefined categories,” Scott explains. “Our goal is to challenge perceptions and inspire others to embrace their true selves.” This vision immediately resonated with fashion enthusiasts around the world. Verdict Still Out debuted its first collection at Paris Fashion Week, where it was met with critical acclaim for its fearless designs and unapologetic celebration of identity. This breakthrough moment solidified the brand’s place in the fashion world and marked

the beginning of a new chapter for Scott.

Since then, Verdict Still Out has been featured in major fashion publications, including L’Officiel, Teen Vanity, and Vogue, and has become a go-to brand for those seeking a fresh perspective on style. With a bicoastal presence in New York City and Atlanta, Scott operates as the sole owner and creative director, building Verdict Still Out into a reputable fashion house that explores both runway couture and streetwear. His goal is to make Verdict Still Out a household name, known for its bold designs, innovative spirit, and commitment to redefining fashion for a new generation.

But for Scott, fashion is about more than just clothing—it’s about building a community. Recognizing the importance of collaboration and support within the creative industry, Scott has partnered with Ars Media Arts Group Creative Agency to create a welcoming space for up-and-coming brands and artists. This partnership is aimed at fostering a community of supporters, models, stylists, and influencers who share Scott’s passion for creativity and

self-expression.

“We want Verdict Still Out to be a platform where other creatives can thrive,” Scott says. “Fashion is a powerful tool for storytelling, and through our designs, we want to create a space where people feel seen, heard, and supported.” This philosophy has translated into a series of collaborations, pop-up events, and workshops that provide opportunities for emerging talent to showcase their work and connect with industry professionals.

One of Verdict Still Out’s signature initiatives is its “Fashion Crimes” series—a collection that features curated pieces designed to make a bold

statement about the importance of individuality. “We brand ourselves as a company that says we don’t have to fit into a box to appease your ideas of what I should look, feel, or be,” Scott asserts. “If being true to ourselves is a crime, then we plead guilty.” Each piece in the collection is a declaration of self-expression, featuring elements that blend avant-garde design with everyday wearability.

In addition to redefining fashion, Scott uses Verdict Still Out as a platform to address broader societal issues. The brand’s Fall 2023 collection, titled “Forsaken is Never Forsaken,” focuses on raising awareness about mental health and the importance of supporting those who feel margin-

Despite the challenges that come with operating in such a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, Scott remains committed to his vision. “This industry doesn’t always love you back,” he says candidly. “But every setback has made me love my passion even more. ALANI TAYLOR: THE JOURNEY OF TIMEEKAH MURPHY IN BRINGING GENDER-FLUID FASHION TO HOLLYWOOD

Timeekah Murphy, the creative force behind Alani Taylor, is redefining fashion by bringing luxury, gender-fluid designs to the mainstream. Recently featured at Atlanta Fashion Week, Murphy’s designs have captivated audiences with their bold statement pieces and commitment to breaking traditional fashion norms. Her story is one of passion, resilience, and breaking barriers—both as a designer and a woman of color in the fashion industry.

Timeekah Murphy’s journey to becoming a fashion designer was not a conventional one. Originally serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Murphy had no background in fashion design. However, a lack of representation for masculine-presenting women in the fashion industry led her to pursue design as a means of personal expression. “I started teaching myself how to sew because I didn’t want to look like everyone else,” she shares. “I love androgynous fashion and I’m a masculine woman, so I wanted to be comfortable in my clothing and still know that I’m a woman.”

Her passion to create clothing that transcends traditional gender lines led to the birth of her fashion line, Alani Taylor, in 2016, named in honor of her daughter. Alani Taylor became Murphy’s canvas for creating garments that fuse streetwear aesthetics with high-fashion sensibilities, all while maintaining a gender-neutral approach. “There are a lot of men and women that can’t find clothes that fit them in a comfortable way,” she says. “I get a lot of women who come up to me and say, ‘I finally found clothing that hides my curves as a masculine woman, and I’m so glad.’” Murphy believes that clothing should instill confidence and self-assurance, allowing people to express their true selves.

and shirts in vibrant, bold patterns, as well as a high-fashion line that features dropper pants, textured jackets, and layered long shirts. These collections resonate with individuals who appreciate innovative designs that prioritize both comfort and style.

Murphy’s rise in the fashion world is also being highlighted through her appearance on HBO’s streetwear design competition, The Hype. Premiering on August 12, 2021, the show features a group of talented streetwear designers, including Murphy, who compete in challenges judged by a panel of industry experts like Offset. With guest appearances from celebrities such as Cardi B, A$AP Ferg, Dapper Dan, and Bobby Hundreds, the show offers Murphy another platform to showcase her talent. If she wins, Murphy will take home $150,000 and earn a collaboration opportunity with StockX, further elevating the visibility of her brand.

“I LOVE ANDROGYNOUS FASHION AND I’M A MASCULINE WOMAN, SO I WANTED TO BE COMFORTABLE IN MY CLOTHING AND STILL KNOW THAT I’M A WOMAN.”

Murphy’s innovative approach to design soon caught the attention of Hollywood. Her breakthrough moment came when she was asked to submit pieces for Beyoncé’s visual album Black Is King. It was a pivotal opportunity for Murphy, and she was ecstatic to see her designs make it to the screen, worn by Beyoncé herself. Since then, Alani Taylor has graced some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Cardi B, Paris Hilton, and DaBaby’s daughter, who wore Alani Taylor for the 2021 Grammys’ homemade red carpet.

The recognition from high-profile celebrities has cemented Alani Taylor as a brand that caters not just to the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities but to anyone seeking unique, luxury fashion that defies stereotypes. Alani Taylor’s collection includes unisex shorts, pants, hoodies,

Despite her growing success, Murphy remains grounded in her mission: to create fashion that speaks to everyone. The foundation of Alani Taylor is not just to sell clothes but to give a voice to the underrepresented and to challenge the status quo of the fashion world. By blending streetwear and high-fashion elements, Murphy ensures that her pieces can be worn everywhere, from red carpets to casual outings, offering a versatility that speaks to her broad audience.

Murphy’s unique perspective is heavily influenced by her experiences as a military veteran and as a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). Her time in the Army taught her discipline and resilience, qualities that have served her well in the competitive fashion industry. Meanwhile, her education at FIDM has equipped her with the technical skills and industry knowledge needed to take her brand to the next level.

Together with her business partner Brittany Duet, Murphy co-designs for both Alani Taylor and Deviant La Vie, another brand that draws inspiration from the intersection of art and fetish. Their collaboration brings a unique fusion of aesthetics, blending art with streetwear in a way that challenges conventional fashion. This innovative approach has caught the eye of many, leading to their participation in high-profile events like Los Angeles Fashion Week (LAFW).

“SHE IS A VOICE THAT CHALLENGES NORMS AND REDEFINES BEAUTY “

Murphy’s designs have become a staple at fashion shows, and her presence at events like Atlanta Fashion Week has only amplified the buzz surrounding her brand. Audiences are captivated by the way she plays with proportions and layers, creating visually striking pieces that blur the line between masculine and feminine. Her use of high-quality materials and attention to detail make each piece a work of art, further solidifying Alani Taylor’s reputation as a luxury brand that’s both stylish and inclusive.

Alani Taylor’s success story is a testament to Murphy’s dedication and vision. From her early days learning to sew in the Army to dressing some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Murphy has proven that there is room in fashion for voices that challenge norms and redefine beauty. As she continues to make waves in the industry, Timeekah Murphy and Alani Taylor are poised to lead the way in bringing gender-fluid fashion to the forefront of mainstream luxury design.

Gray MaddieAtlanta SwimWeek

In 2024, Atlanta Swim Week continues to rise as a disruptive force in the fashion industry, led by its visionary founder, Maddie Gray. A female-founded, woman-owned organization, Atlanta Swim Week (ATLSW) is reshaping the swimwear fashion landscape on the U.S. East Coast, marking its place between fashion hubs like New York and Miami. Maddie Gray’s brainchild has evolved into a platform for creativity, diversity, and innovation, with Atlanta Swim Week rapidly establishing Atlanta as an emerging center for fashion. What began as a bold vision is now revolutionizing swimwear fashion, and Maddie Gray stands at the helm, guiding this groundbreaking initiative into the future.

Maddie Gray: The Visionary Behind Atlanta Swim Week

Maddie Gray, a forward-thinking entrepreneur and fashion enthusiast, founded Atlanta Swim Week with the mission of reshaping the swimwear fashion industry. Recognizing the need for more inclusivity and innovation, she set out to create a platform that gave voice to underrepresented designers, showcased a range of body types, and reflected a diversity of cultural influences. As a woman entrepreneur, Maddie has worked tirelessly to position Atlanta as a key player in the fashion world, all while empowering others in the industry.

Maddie’s goal has always been to disrupt traditional swimwear fashion norms and to create an event that stands out from the pack. Her leadership at Atlanta Swim Week emphasizes inclusivity, creativity, and giving space to emerging talent. Under her guidance, ATLSW has blossomed into more than just a runway event—it has become a movement for change in fashion.

Week embraces real people in real-world designs, breaking down beauty standards and reflecting the dynamic, multifaceted world of swimwear.

Gray’s decision to base Atlanta Swim Week in the city of Atlanta, known for its entrepreneurial spirit and cultural richness, wasn’t a coincidence. She chose Atlanta because it mirrored her values of innovation, inclusivity, and creativity. The city, with its diverse talent pool and reputation for artistic experimentation, provided the perfect setting for Gray’s vision to come to life.

Championing Inclusivity and Diversity

One of Maddie Gray’s core missions is to create a fashion event that celebrates all body types, skin tones, and backgrounds. At Atlanta Swim Week, inclusivity is at the heart of every show. Models of varying body sizes and backgrounds grace the runway, demonstrating that fashion is for everyone, regardless of how society has traditionally defined beauty.

“ATLSW GOES BEYOND CREATING VISUALLY STUNNING RUNWAY SHOWS—SHE’S DEEPLY INVESTED IN ENSURING THAT HER PLATFORM SHOWCASES A VARIETY OF BODY TYPES, CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS, AND AESTHETIC STYLES.”

Building Atlanta Swim Week: From Concept to Success

When Maddie Gray first launched Atlanta Swim Week, she saw an opportunity to position Atlanta as a leader in swimwear fashion, particularly along the U.S. East Coast. Traditionally, cities like Miami and New York dominated the swimwear scene, but Gray saw the potential in Atlanta’s diverse, growing fashion community. With her strategic leadership, ATLSW held its inaugural event in May, and its success instantly set the stage for further growth.

What distinguishes Atlanta Swim Week from other fashion weeks is its unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion. Maddie’s vision goes beyond creating visually stunning runway shows—she’s deeply invested in ensuring that her platform showcases a variety of body types, cultural backgrounds, and aesthetic styles. Atlanta Swim

This approach not only resonates with designers and models but also with the consumers and audiences who attend the events. Gray believes in showcasing swimwear that appeals to real people, with designs that fit and celebrate a variety of body types. By offering designers from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds a chance to showcase their work, Maddie is fostering a space where the swimwear industry can evolve and flourish in new, exciting directions.

Fostering Growth Through Industry Networking

Atlanta Swim Week, under Maddie Gray’s leadership, is more than a series of runway shows. It’s a hub for industry networking, collaboration, and innovation. Gray has created a platform where fashion designers, models, influencers, and other industry professionals can come together to exchange ideas, form partnerships, and grow their careers.

ODEMI PESSU

Odemi Pessu is an artist and visionary whose work blends the spiritual, cultural, and emotional complexities of Afro-indigenous womanhood with the vibrant colors and fluid forms of abstract art. Born and raised in Atlanta to Nigerian immigrant parents, Odemi’s journey as an artist and entrepreneur has been deeply informed by her Ijaw and Itsekiri heritage. Her creative journey, now embodied through her platform Alaere Lifestyle, is a celebration of the divine feminine, sovereignty, and the decolonization of mind, body, and spirit.

Odemi’s unique style of storytelling through illustrations and mixed media paintings draws inspiration from her indigenous African roots, highlighting the sacred essence of womanhood in a postcolonial world. Her work speaks to the transformative power of love and the deep connection between humanity and nature. For Odemi, art is not just a medium for self-expression but a tool for spiritual awakening and empowerment. Each brushstroke reflects the resilience, strength, and beauty of African women, while calling attention to the broader themes of divine power and reclamation of identity.

At the heart of Odemi’s creative process is her exploration of the divine feminine—an element that permeates every piece she creates. In a world that often marginalizes the voices and experiences of indigenous women, Odemi uses her art to reclaim these narratives, celebrating the sovereignty and strength of African women. She explains, “My work is about decolonizing the way we think about ourselves, especially as African women. It’s about reconnecting with our power and honoring our sacred connection to the Earth.”

Her art also delves into postcolonial society’s complex relationship with nature and culture. Through her vibrant, abstract works, Odemi

challenges viewers to consider how cultural creations can serve as a bridge, reconnecting individuals with their roots and Mother Earth. This spiritual connection to nature is a key aspect of her work, as it reflects the symbiotic relationship between African culture and the natural world.

Odemi Pessu’s journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with her entrepreneurial spirit. After nearly a decade in corporate America, Odemi founded Alaere Lifestyle—a platform dedicated to empowering modern Afro-indigenous women. Alaere Lifestyle’s mission is to inspire women globally to live as embodiments of divine flow and consciousness. Through art, literature, and educational media, Odemi is cultivating a new generation of sovereign women artists, lovers, and leaders who are unapologetically embracing their identity and heritage.

Her work extends beyond the canvas. Odemi’s first book, Force of Nature, serves as a testament to her vision of empowering women through storytelling and spiritual growth. The book has been internationally distributed across the U.S., Europe, and Oceania, offering readers a powerful reflection on self-love, identity, and cultural reconnection. “I want my work to be a reminder that we, as African women, have always been powerful,” says Odemi. “We just need to tap into that energy and embrace it fully.”

Odemi’s contributions to art and culture have earned her recognition not only in the creative space but also in the political arena. In 2014, the Georgia House of Representatives honored her with a resolution praising her “selfless dedication, mental agility, verbal adroitness, and personal maturity.” This acknowledgment underscores the impact of Odemi’s work and her commitment to using art as a vehicle for change.

As she continues to expand Alaere Lifestyle, Odemi remains committed to her mission of inspiring young African women leaders across the globe. Through her art, she is cultivating a sense of spiritual, emotional, and intellectual expansion in women everywhere. “My goal is to create a space where women can see themselves reflected as powerful, beautiful, and sovereign,” says Odemi. “I want to inspire the next generation of leaders who are rooted in love, wisdom, and strength.”

BovtiqueFashion Week

OUR GOAL AT BVFW IS TO CREATE A SPACE WHERE DESIGNERS CAN EXPRESS THEMSELVES AUTHENTICALLY, AND WHERE EVERY ATTENDEE LEAVES FEELING INSPIRED AND EMPOWERED

In the heart of Atlanta’s flourishing cultural landscape, Bovtiqve Fashion Week (BVFW) has established itself as a beacon of creativity, innovation, and inclusivity. What began as an ambitious endeavor to celebrate fashion has evolved into one of the most dynamic and influential fashion events in the South, bringing together designers, artists, and fashion enthusiasts from around the world. Under the visionary leadership of Franck Mille, CEO and Creative Director, and Angelo Diaz, President and Co-Founder, BVFW has become more than just a fashion event—it’s a cultural movement that challenges the norms of the fashion industry and redefines what it means to be stylish, creative, and inclusive.

fashion landscape. His approach is rooted in the belief that fashion is not just about clothes; it’s a form of artistic expression and storytelling.

“Fashion is an intersection of beauty, innovation, and culture,” says Mille. “Our goal at BVFW is to create a space where designers can express themselves authentically, and where every attendee leaves feeling inspired and empowered.”

“In our journey, staying true to our mission isn’t just a promise; it’s the bedrock of who we are,” -Angelo Diaz

Angelo Diaz, the President and Co-Founder of BVFW, brings a powerful perspective to the event’s mission of inclusivity. As an advocate for diversity and equality in the fashion industry, Diaz has worked alongside Mille to ensure that BVFW champions underrepresented voices.

The Founders: Visionaries with a Mission

At the helm of BVFW, Franck Mille has built a legacy of creating fashion experiences that transcend the runway. With a background in fashion, art, and event production, Mille’s vision for BVFW has always been to craft events that inspire attendees and challenge the traditional

“In our journey, staying true to our mission isn’t just a promise; it’s the bedrock of who we are,” Diaz emphasizes. This commitment to inclusivity has made BVFW a platform that embraces designers of all backgrounds, sizes, and aesthetics, fostering an environment where creativity knows no boundaries.

Together, Mille and Diaz have turned BVFW into a runway for change, not just a platform for clothes. Their shared mission of pushing fashion beyond its aesthetic confines and using

it as a medium for cultural commentary has made BVFW a transformative experience for both participants and attendees alike.

The Essence of BVFW: A Celebration of Diversity, Creativity, and Empowerment

BVFW is not your typical fashion week. While runways are an integral part of the event, they are far from the only focus. BVFW has made a name for itself by creating immersive experiences that merge fashion with fine art, music, and cultural expression. The event is structured to offer a holistic journey through fashion—where each designer’s collection is not only a visual spectacle but also a statement of identity, culture, and social values.

Inclusivity lies at the heart of BVFW’s mission. From the beginning, the event has prided itself on offering opportunities to designers who may not fit into the mainstream mold of high fashion. The designers who participate in BVFW represent a spectrum of aesthetics, from avant-garde and streetwear to luxury couture. The collections showcased during BVFW are often as diverse as the models who wear them, with representation across size, gender, and ethnicity being an integral part of the event’s identity.

This dedication to inclusivity extends beyond the runway. BVFW has also become known for its support of sustainable and ethical fashion, with many designers using the platform to showcase eco-conscious collections and explore the future of sustainable fashion. For the founders, fashion isn’t just about what’s trendy—it’s about what’s meaningful.

A Platform for Emerging Designers

One of BVFW’s most significant contributions to the fashion industry is its role as a launchpad for emerging designers. Unlike many other fashion weeks that primarily focus on established names, BVFW is known for giving a platform to designers who are on the rise—those with bold, new ideas that deserve to be seen. Franck Mille’s commitment to showcasing emerging talent is one of the event’s defining characteristics. He believes that the future of fashion lies in the hands of those who are unafraid to push the envelope.

“Fashion is about taking risks, and that’s what we celebrate at BVFW,” Mille says. “We want to give designers the freedom to experiment, to challenge the status quo, and to bring their visions to life in a way that resonates with the audience.”

Through BVFW, many of these up-and-coming designers have found a platform to share their work with a broader audience, and some have gone on to achieve international recognition. By focusing on new talent, BVFW helps to shape the future of fashion, ensuring that the industry

continues to evolve and innovate.

Merging Fashion with Art and Culture

One of the elements that sets BVFW apart from other fashion weeks is its emphasis on the intersection of fashion with art and culture. Beyond the runway shows, BVFW incorporates art exhibitions, live performances, and panel discussions, turning the event into a multidimensional exploration of creativity.

This blend of fashion and fine art is one of the most anticipated aspects of BVFW. Designers are encouraged to think beyond clothing, using their collections as a form of cultural commentary. This artistic integration is evident in everything from the runway backdrops to the fine art installations that accompany many of the shows.

Mille and Diaz believe that fashion is a universal language, capable of communicating powerful

messages about identity, culture, and society. Through these artistic collaborations, BVFW has been able to use fashion as a platform for deeper conversations, making it not just a showcase of beauty but also a platform for cultural dialogue and creative expression.

BVFW’s Impact on Atlanta’s Fashion Scene

BVFW has positioned itself as a trailblazer in Atlanta’s growing fashion industry, elevating the city’s cultural profile on both a national and international scale. Over the years, BVFW has attracted a diverse range of attendees, from local fashion enthusiasts and influencers to international industry professionals, all of whom are eager to witness the innovative designs and bold ideas showcased at the event.

For Atlanta, BVFW represents a new era in fashion—one that celebrates inclusivity, creativity, and community. It has helped to place the city on the map as a fashion hub, proving that innovation and artistry can thrive outside of the traditional fashion capitals of New York, Paris, and Milan.

With each edition, BVFW continues to grow in influence and scope, inspiring designers, models, and fashion lovers from around the world to

join in its mission of creating a more inclusive and forward-thinking industry. Franck Mille and Angelo Diaz have created a platform that is not only shaping the future of fashion but also empowering the next generation of designers to make their mark.

A Legacy of Empowerment and Innovation

As Bovtiqve Fashion Week continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: Franck Mille and Angelo Diaz are not just creating a fashion week— they are building a legacy. A legacy of empowerment, innovation, and cultural celebration that

will continue to inspire long after the runways have been cleared.

For those who have attended BVFW, it is more than just an event; it’s a transformative experience. Whether you’re an emerging designer, a model, or simply someone who loves fashion, BVFW offers a unique platform to explore the intersection of creativity, culture, and identity. And as Franck Mille often reminds his team, “Fashion is a reflection of the world we want to live in. At BVFW, we’re working to make that world a more inclusive, vibrant, and empowered place.”

From seasoned wine connoisseurs to casual enthusiasts, the event drew a diverse crowd eager to expand their palates and minds.

A Journey Through Wine

The mission of the Vino Noir Experience was as bold as the wines on display: to elevate the appreciation of wine in a city often dominated by traditional spirits and craft beers. ATL Plus Magazine and its partners set out to showcase how wine can not only complement but also transform a culinary experience. Attendees were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, exploring the nuances of wine from both established and emerging vintners.

From robust reds to delicate whites and effervescent sparklings, the selection of wines was thoughtfully curated to appeal to a broad range of tastes. The diversity of offerings reflected the inclusive spirit of the event, ensuring that everyone—from the casual sipper to the seasoned sommelier—could find something to enjoy.

It was clear from the lively conversations that many left the event with a deeper appreciation for how wine can enhance even the simplest of meals. The educational aspect of the event was a standout feature, as attendees were not only there to drink wine but to learn about it.

Art Meets Wine

What truly set the Vino Noir Experience apart was its seamless integration of art. Partnering with K Alexander Galleries, the event elevated itself from a simple wine tasting to a full-fledged cultural experience. Throughout the venue, exclusive artwork from local and national artists adorned the walls, turning Atlantic Station into a living gallery.

The artwork—ranging from abstract modern pieces to more traditional forms—added depth and texture to the event. Guests could wander from wine station to art display, making connections between the creativity in their glasses and the art on the walls. This fusion of wine and art created a unique atmosphere, one where conversations flowed as easily as the wine. Attendees not only left with bottles of their favorite selections but also with one-of-a-kind pieces of art that resonated with them.
