PhD Funding Opportunities

Research and teaching assistantships

Dean’s Fellowship: This prestigious award is for highly qualified incoming domestic PhD students. The Dean’s Fellowship provides tuition, health insurance and a stipend. This award is a commitment to four academic years plus summers. Fellows will hold a 50% FTE graduate research associate position, working with faculty conducting research in their field of interest.

Most PhD students fund their education through research assistantships (RA) or teaching assistantships (TA). An RA’s main responsibility is to provide research support to one or more faculty members. RA’s receive tuition support and a monthly stipend. A TA’s primary role is to provide instructional assistance to their supervising faculty member. This could include lecturing, proctoring exams, grading, etc. TA’s can be paid hourly or receive tuition support with a monthly stipend.

Fulton Fellowship: Open to accomplished incoming international and domestic PhD students, the Fulton Fellowship is a competitive, one-time, award ranging from $500 to $5,000. Find eligible criteria and application requirements at: graduate.engineering.asu.edu/fellowships

Faculty looking to fill RA or TA positions will post opportunities so that PhD applicants can reach out and make connections. Learn more about assistantship responsibilities and find open positions at: graduate.engineering.asu.edu/ra-ta

Our new PhD program

New PhD program in Data Science, Analytics and Engineering The PhD in data science, analytics and engineering is designed to produce data scientists, analysts and engineers who can manage data and convert it into relevant information for decision making. Students will develop new systems and algorithms as well as draw inferences from high dimension, high volume, heterogenous data streams. Graduates will be proficient in existing methodology and capable of engaging in foundational and applied research with high social impact. This degree program is a collaboration between the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS). Our faculty are internationally recognized for their research, methodological and application perspectives but also actively advise students, teach innovation and continuously improve their curriculum.

Fall application deadline: January 15 Spring application deadline: September 15 To learn more about the program, please visit: graduate.engineering.asu.edu
