Assistant Professor Kumar Ankit is leading the first integration of computational, experimental and characterization techniques to add new knowledge of steel microstructures to his field and optimize the future of steel manufacturing.

Semiconductor processing certificate

The semiconductor processing certificate program at ASU aims to address the global semiconductor shortage that is disrupting manufacturing. To acquaint students with the basics of semiconductor manufacturing, this 15-credit graduate certificate program relies on three core courses: Advanced Silicon Processing, an electrical engineering course; Design Engineering Experiments, an industrial engineering course; and Advanced Materials Characterization, a materials science and engineering course. Six credit hours are required to complete the certificate.

Assistant Professor Abhinav Acharya explores how metabolic pathways affect our immune cells. The research results could enable the development of vaccines to treat diseases such as cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

Associate Professor Brent Nannenga explores how biomolecules might be designed to create a more precise nanoparticle synthesis process.

Associate Professor Yulia Peet uses her expertise in high performance computing and computational fluid dynamics to expand theoretical knowledge of fluid mechanics and turbulent flows.

Assistant Professor Arul Mozhy Varman focuses on development of engineered microbial systems for the sustainable production of chemicals, fuels and pharmaceuticals using renewable resources.

Research center.

Navrotsky Eyring Center for Materials of the Universe

Founded by National Academy of Sciences member Alexandra Navrotsky, the center will host interdisciplinary investigations of newly discovered materials. Navrotsky will lead research in the development of new detectors and spacecraft materials needed to continue our exploration beyond our planet. Her donation of $10 million supports professorship positions, early-career faculty endeavors and research in thermochemistry, as well as junior faculty and graduate students engaged in thermodynamics research efforts.
