HAVEN STUDIO Due to unfortunate circumstances, our client was no longer able to provide funding and withdrew from the project in the summer of 2022. After returning from summer break, a scaled down design retaining the intent and language of materials was developed. This design, now called Haven Studio, was planned to be constructed as an accesory structure on the same lot as the KU Design Build warehouse in Lawrence, KS. This new design was entirely funded through donations from manufacturers and crowd funding through the University of Kansas, along with a $50,000 grant from the US Dept. of Energy Solar Decathlon for all teams who recieved approval to proceed with construction. Students were in charge of soliciting donations and forming partnerships with companies to provide materials such as insulation, appliances and bathroom fixtures for the project. Haven Studio now exists as a teaching studio for new classes of design build students at the University of Kansas, as well as showcasing sustainable and high performance building practices through tours of the space.
