Dirt Works Studio
The Polaris Pavilion is the second of two projects undertaken by designbuild students in Dirt Works Studio within Well’s Overlook Park outside of Lawrence, KS. These projects aimed to create structures that enrich the experience of the park while being fully ADA accessible. The design of the Polaris Pavilion was made by the previous class of Dirt Works Studio, who were unable to construct it due to the challenges surrounding the pandemic.
My class began construction in fall 2021. My role within the group was as a construction manager. My tasks were to make sure work was being completed effectively and efficiently on the jobsite, set up the jobsite in the mornings, and break down the site at the end of the day after work was done. Along with this came the responsibility of transporting materials and tools in the university’s truck and trailer. Overall, this experience helped me to build a wide range of both practical and soft skills in the construction realm.
