It is time to let optimism, hope and positive plans come forth and dominate once again in society and in all our lives. It has been a difficult two years since COVID-19 first arrived on our shores, especially for those who have been ill or lost loved ones, who we shall never forget. We finally see a very welcome atmosphere, that life is returning to a new sense of normality and with that hope has emerged. It is important at this moment to re-iterate the gratitude we all feel for the extraordinary work carried out by health and social care teams all over the country, now but more especially over the past two years. Staff contributed so much and worked selflessly by continuing to provide services, albeit via new ways of working, which was challenging for you. This is an exemplary illustration of public service. We have always said that when this public health emergency ends we want to retain the innovation, empowerment and flexibility we have witnessed and experienced over the past two years. The planning around services, working practices and the return to the workplace will be appropriately structured to reflect this. As we begin to adapt to a new reality with greater openness we continue to urge everyone to retain awareness of COVID-19. At a senior operational level within the HSE, we are hopeful but also ensuring that we are in a state of readiness should any new variant or any cause for concern emerge. Throughout the pandemic, the National Crisis Management Team has worked to ensure the HSE acts in the best interest of the public, and it continues to ensure that everything we do is guided by the best public health advice. We are continuing to monitor the disease, manage our COVID-19 related services and work to ensure that all services, across all sectors operate efficiently given COVID’s presence. We are continuing to urge those who still require a COVID-19 vaccine or booster dose to come forward. We have seen the huge positive impact that the COVID-19 vaccine has made on lessening the spread of the disease, and reducing its severity, to the great benefit of people, our society and in maintaining our health service. Thank you for your immeasurable contribution since the start of the pandemic. Your collective actions have greatly improved the public’s trust and confidence in the HSE.
