Be cyber security aware

HSE CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS

The HSE has commenced the rollout of a Cyber Security Awareness programme

Being cyber aware when working online is everyone’s responsibility, and it’s the first line of defence against potential cyber attacks. The Cyber Security Awareness programme aims to provide sta with the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves, HSE systems and data safe and secure.

A collective e ort between the eHealth & Disruptive Technology Division, HSE Communications and external partners, led to the development of the cyber security awareness programme which is relevant to all sta , and built around the following elements: • Education and awareness programmes; • Simulated Phishing campaigns; • Online training; • Policy awareness.

It will be rolled out throughout 2022 in a phased manner. 90% of cyber attacks stem from human error. Whilst the HSE has many technical controls and continuous security monitoring, it is so important that we as a community increase our knowledge around cyber hygiene, and that our cyber security awareness is peoplefocussed.

The Cyber Security Awareness programme will begin with a number of simulated Phishing exercises, supported by information sharing on best practices and how to recognise a Phishing email.

Phishing emails can be very sophisticated and hard to identify. Here are some of the key warning signs to look out for when you receive an email: • The email address does not look genuine • The email is poorly written • It contains a suspicious attachment or link • The message is designed to make you panic • The email asks you to confirm personal information

You should always make note these warning signs, and be particularly vigilant when working with emails. If you are unsure about anything, you should contact the sender if you know them or inform the ICT helpdesk.

It is also important for sta to be familiar with ICT Security Polices and Practices. These are available on the HSE website. During the second phase of our programme we will bring you further information on these.
