Welcome to the 1st Annual Fall Female Production Sale! Throughout the past few years, we have focused on a combination of selection criteria which has helped propel our cowherd into where we are, and where we are going, and now we look forward to sharing these genetics and individuals with you. I have worked closely with Joel to establish an animal preference based on phenotype, genetic merit, and incorporating Promogen Genetic Evaluation to both refine and legitimize our direction. Over the course of these past few years, we have established what works as far as criteria refinement in our high-Promogen animals mated to other high-Promogen animals, and we have found some interesting correlations with the 6.0 X 6.5 and 6.5 X 6.5 combinations; we look forward to presenting this information and our personal results in alignment with some EPDs. Please join us on Friday night to partake in this discussion, along with a wonderful steak dinner!

Each EPD and $Index category gets a highlight. If the data is in the top 15% of the breed it is YELLOW, and top 5% in the breed it is BLUE.
Welcome to the latest marketplace innovation brought to you exclusively by The Judge Source –audio footnotes and sale book audio content. This proprietary feature gives our clients, buyers, and interested parties a convenient way to listen to us walk through the sale as we highlight and discuss sale features, lots, and the client’s program. Differing from printed footnotes, this gives you the benefit of hearing the details on a lot, or lot grouping, while you look over the photos, pedigrees, and genomic data provided. The audio content arrives to you in an easy and suitable fashion, in which you can download and listen to over again, and at your convenience. Doing chores, traveling, or on the move? No problem, listen in as you work and move! Also, it gives you a fun insight into our discussions around the sale and offering…you never know what you might hear!
Simply scan the code with your phone’s camera whenever you see it available and follow the link that pops up on your screen – will work on both printed sale books and digital versions. Each QR code gives you a different set of content.

PromogenTM genetic evaluation is not just another method for establishing genomic probabilities. The purpose of the test is to identify and quantify, using a simple numerical scoring system, the presence of three key proteins that medical science has labeled collectively as “Defensins.” A twenty-year research project involving several universities in the United States and Europe has proven that physiologic performance, whether it is measured as disease resistance, fertility, productivity, or athletic ability, are directly related to the concentration of these proteins in the body.
How does PromogenTM equate to profitability?
• Provides a “road map” for developing management strategies that maximize herd profitability.
• Helps you identify animals who are most likely naturally inclined to herd longevity, reproductive efficiency, and naturally able to maximize environment and express Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) to the best of their ability.
• Early identification of animals that may prove to incur more input costs than their counterparts.
Genetic progress in beef cattle comes with challenges. The major issue is industry segmentation. Utilizing the PromogenTM assay can add value throughout the production cycle. The ideal cow for a cow/ calf operation is one that successfully weans a feedlot-ready calf at six to seven months of age and does so with minimum added expense associated with feed supplementation, medication, and labor. At the same time, that cow is expected to breed back within 40 to 90 days post-calving to repeat the cycle; she is expected to do this year after year. PromogenTM assays will predict value-added cows that will raise healthy calves.
Then there is the challenge of sire selection. PromogenTM testing accurately identifies bulls who are more feed efficient, more disease resistant, more fertile and appear to be able to pass the ability to produce high levels of Defensins and their associated proteins to their offspring.
1. The system uses a numerical score of 1 to 6.5.
2. Animals with scores of less than 4 are not producing the three marker proteins we are measuring at physiologically effective levels.
3. Animals scoring between 4 to 4.5 are producing the three marker proteins at levels that are physiologically average.
4. Animals scoring between 4.5 to 5.0 are in the Top 15% of the tested population.
5. Animals scoring between 5.0 to 5.5 are within the Top 10%.
6. Animals scoring between 5.5 to 6.0 are within the Top 5%.
7. The outliers lie within the range of 6.0 to 6.5, and find themselves within the Top 1% of the tested population.
• Immunologically superior animals are proven to return higher significant gains across all traits: overall wellness, fertility, and feed efficiency.
• Profits on overall wellness are realized through an increased response to vaccines and antiparasitic treatments, drastically reducing the incidence of morbidity and antibiotic use.
• Fertility is reflected in higher conception rates, reduced risk in early embryonic death, weaning calves at higher weight ratios, and overall retention and longevity in replacement females.
• Feed efficiency is directly affected by the body’s ability to ward off inflammation due to environmental stress factors.
• Cattle on feed who possess this natural ability have higher conversion rates than their counterparts who are immunologically inferior – all without commanding additional medicine costs and higher overall expenses.
• Immunologically superior animals who possess specific Defensin predictive biomarkers are proven to be more profitable and aide in economic gains through these highly heritable traits or generations to follow.
• Choose immunologically superior animals through Promogen Genetic Evaluation. Choose genetic gold.
