Who are we?

Ashbury College students come from all walks of life and everywhere in the world. We benefit from a diverse student population who will learn and grow in our communities, locally, nationally and internationally. Through world-wide connections and friendships, our students make a difference.

Why financial assistance?

Ashbury College recognizes that full tuition fees, for some, may be a deterrent to access. In 2013 Ashbury College developed a financial assistance program dedicated to making our school accessible regardless of a family’s socioeconomic situation. Today, over 10% of Ashbury College students receive financial assistance with a goal to increase our endowment and dispersement every year.

Committed to inclusion

An open-minded approach to learning is a key skill-set required by future learners and leaders, with diplomacy at its core. Financial assistance provides foundational equity across our student population allowing for a culturally rich and diverse learning environment. Through Ashbury College’s financial assistance program bright and determined young students have the opportunity to thrive where their dreams come to life and goals a reality.

Equity and Inclusion are key to the success of our diverse student population, while Ashbury College is a school dedicated to its local, national, and international communities. By connecting with their peers, hearing others’ voices and ideas, and considering different points of view, we know Ashbury students can make a difference. With accessibility and education as the foundation for concrete change and growth, Ashbury College students will make a positive impact in Canada and globally.

What is a bursary?

A bursary is a sum of money awarded to a student whose family has demonstrated financial need (as determined through an application and review process managed by a third party). The student recipient must complete the standard Ashbury application process and meet the entrance criteria. Ashbury’s financial assistance program is designed to support student recipients throughout their time at the school.

Most of our donor-supported bursaries are invested in the Ashbury Endowment, which currently stands at $15 million, where it will exist in perpetuity. The principle sum is invested in the Endowment and the investment income is awarded to students. Currently, one out of every ten students receives financial assistance. The average award is 50% of tuition fees.

Ashbury College Internship Program

Experiential learning is a key differentiator at Ashbury College and is complemented by a summer internship program through connections with our global network of Ashbury Alumni. Students in grades 10 and 11 who are interested in acquiring workplace experience and expanding their professional network may apply to this program.

Back in 2010, when I first came to Ashbury, I was amazed by how education and classes could be managed, as I had only experienced the German school system before. With the help of the Board of Governors Bursary, I was able to not only stay at Ashbury for another school year, but also to graduate with the IB Diploma and form long-lasting friendships.

IB Program

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 1975, Ashbury College reflects the values of the IB program of embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Like IB, Ashbury College is committed to promoting human rights, justice – social, economic, and ecological – while promoting the voices, identities, and leadership of marginalized students.

During the school year I sent letter of thanks to the Board; however, at that moment I was not able to comprehend the impact that bursary would have in my life to come. In retrospect, going to Ashbury has been the greatest experience in my life and has allowed me to create the foundations for my educational path and career developments.

The Round Square IDEALS are further supported by twelve Discoveries that expand on a student’s learning journey: inquisitiveness, tenacity, courage, compassion, inventiveness, ability to solve problems, self-awareness, sense of responsibility, appreciation of diversity, commitment to sustainability, communication and team-working skills.

I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science in Economic Science and went on to complete a Master of Science in Economics. I am now working as a HR Leader for Germany, Austria and Switzerland in a global company. My time at Ashbury did not only allow me to learn great English (always needed in the business world), but also how to address complex problems, and structure them to come to solutions.

The true value of an Ashbury education cannot simply be measured by the incredible material provided in the classroom. The strength of the Ashbury community is what has left the greatest impact on my life from my nine years at the school.
