With our close proximity to the national seat of government, students can witness politics in action. Seasons are fully celebrated and students participate in Canadian pastimes and traditions, such as fall hiking in the nearby Gatineau hills, ice hockey, dog sledding and spring visits to maple sugar shacks.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is the core of our Senior School academic program. The OSSD is recognized around the world as excellent preparation for university. Every student who graduates from Ashbury College will receive an OSSD.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

Ashbury College has been an IB World School since 1975, offering a high-quality education with fully accredited IB teachers. Students choose from a wide range of IB subjects and levels and have the opportunity to develop artistic, cultural, athletic, service and leadership skills through our varied programs. They take the Theory of Knowledge course, complete the Extended Essay and engage in Creativity, Activity and Service through their final years of high school.

Ashbury Diploma Requirements

In addition to the OSSD requirements:

1. One credit in Art or Music or Drama

2. One credit in French or in an international language

3. One credit in Physical Education

4. One credit with a global perspective at the Grade 11 or 12 level

5. All English courses must be taken at Ashbury College

6. Nine terms of co-curricular involvement (at least one co-curricular activity is different from the others)

7. Twenty additional hours of community service

8. No more than three senior credits from another institution.

Bilingual Certificate

To encourage the development of student interests and proficiency in French, a bilingual (English and French) diploma is granted to students who earn seven credits in French: four in Extended or Immersion French, and three in Ashbury courses taught in French.

Ashbury College is a strong community of students, teachers and staff. We provide a safe environment of support and constructive debate in and out of the classroom. Boarding Life

Ashbury College is home to 109 boarding students from Canada and 30+ other countries. Our students live in three modern residences: Matthews House is home to 51 boys, while 51 girls live in Heather Gillin Residence and seven girls live in Maple Residence. Each house provides a warm and comfortable environment with a mix of single and double rooms and the following amenities:

Boarding Weekend Programming

• in-house fitness area

Over the course of the school year, boarding staff organize and supervise a variety of weekend activities. As well, there are five, four-day long weekends every year when the school is closed. Boarding students have the option of leaving campus to be with friends or family, or they may sign up for our Ashbury Long Weekend Program, allowing them to remain on campus, and participate in local programming.

Our Residences

Our modern dining room in the main school building provides healthy and delicious meals with a variety of choices reflecting the cultural origins of our boarding students. Special dietary needs are supported by our Food Services team. Residential staff organize and supervise a variety of weekend activities throughout the year, with special programming offered on long weekends allowing boarding students to stay on campus or participate in off-site trips.

Required Forms and Information

Step

1: Online Application and Application Fee

Go to ashbury.ca/admissions and click on the APPLY button. As a first-time user, you will need to set up an account by clicking on New User Registration. Choose a User Name and Password; this will allow you to save your work and go back into the application to complete it before your final online submission.

Follow the detailed checklist instructions on MySchoolApp, our online portal. The Application Fee of $200 CAD is paid online by credit card.

Step 2: Personal Profile

Within the online application, each applicant must write a 300-word essay outlining their academic goals and interests, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and areas of distinction or achievement. Please refer to the “Download” link for personal profile content guidelines. Candidates are expected to write their personal profile themselves.

Step 3: School Reports

We require a copy of the applicant’s final report card from their last completed school year, as well as any interim report cards from their current school year as they become available.

Step 4: Confidential Reference

The Confidential Reference must be completed by the applicant’s Math or English teacher, or school Principal. Please complete the reference request in your MySchoolApp checklist. The completed reference is returned directly to Admissions.

Step 5: Interview

Interviews are conducted by telephone, FaceTime, WeChat, WhatsApp, or Zoom for students applying from a distance. We will arrange an appointment for the interview, usually between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (EST), Monday to Friday.

Step 6: Entrance Exam

Students applying from a distance may write the SSAT, or they may arrange to write the Ashbury College online entrance exam. Further information will be shared during the application process.
