AVA Galleria is founded 2005 by curator Edson Cardoso and it was one of Helsinki’s leading contemporary art galleries. Nowadays AVA Galleria is in Finland in Varkaus and in Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. AVA Galleria has participated Salon Art Shopping since 2010. AVA organizes BELA Biennial (Biennial of European and Latin-American contemporary Art) and Art Exhibitions in Finland as well as abroad in collaboration with other galleries in Osaka, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Porto, and Rio de Janeiro. AVA Galleria has firmly established its position on both local and international art market as an institution that represents highly exclusive art by emerging and well-respected artists.

For over 40 years I have explored the world of visual arts, studying art history, different techniques, visiting museums and galleries in Finland and abroad. In my working life I was a human resources manager for an energy company for 20 years. I got myself a good job and a regular income from outside the arts, because in my youth the status of female artists in Finland was much worse than it is today.

Personal story

At the age of 50 I started to paint actively and in 2002 I held my first exhibition. The idea for holding the exhibition came about while traveling in Africa and the proceeds from the exhibition were used to promote sustainable development by supporting a Kenyan primary school. Since then I have held numerous exhibitions of my own and participated in many joint exhibitions. My goal is to live to be 100, so there is still plenty of time to be artist.

Color and style

I have come a long way in my work from representational to non-representational. I have changed from slow-drying oil paints to fast-drying acrylics. The change has brought a new kind of freedom and energy to my own expression. I love colors and they act as a strong visual element in my work. My style is simple and minimalistic. Each painting is born from a deep personal connection to the subject. Making art is a continuous journey towards the new.

Themes and messages

I draw inspiration for painting by following various phenomena in society in a diverse way, reading a lot, making observations about the environment and curiously exploring everything that happens in the world. Living life offers sources of inspiration when I have the patience to stop and be quiet. Movies, music, beautiful nature, different colors and shapes and lovely animals, especially cats, generate enthusiasm. New experiences related to travel also inspire me.

Nature is my biggest source for inspiration. It has given me the deepest sense of wonder and my most extraordinary experiences. The sketches and notes become my treasury. I have heard the glacier breathing. I have walked through a dancing forest and dwelt in the radiance of layers upon layers of stars in the desert and mountains. There is no place like planet earth, full of miracles and beauty. I love clay. Clay is earth, living materia. When I work with clay I feel a connection. Thoughts, ideas, feelings cooperates with memories and ancient tales. My own as well as those the clay itself carries. At best it feels like music - my hands in a rhythmic dance with the clay. Miscalculations and dead ends belong to the work and often lead to surprising insights and discoveries.

I have a need to learn, investigate, examine. I find answers in books, science, news - all around me. I am fascinated by Biomimicry. By studying strategies of living organisms in Natures infinite encyclopedia we find solutions for a sustainable world.

Naturen är min största inspirationskälla. Det är där jag upplever känslan av förundran och samlar mina bästa upplevelser. Skisserna och anteckningarna är skatter att ösa ur. På vandringar i ödemarker har jag hört glaciären andas, vandrat genom en dansande skog och badat i stjärnornas strålglans under nätter i öknen och i bergen. Det finns ingen plats som moder jord - full av mirakler och skönhet.

Jag älskar lera. Lera är jord. Ett levande material. När jag arbetar med lera kan jag känna gensvar. Tankar, idéer, känslor samarbetar med minnen och sägner - både mina egna och de materialet redan bär inom sig. Som bäst känns det som musik när händerna rytmiskt dansar över leran. Misslyckanden och irrfärder hör till. Ofta leder de till oväntade insikter och för framåt. Jag har ett behov att samla kunskap, forska, experimentera, lära mig förstå. Jag fascineras av böcker, arkeologi, vetenskap, nyheter. Biomimik är naturens uppslagsverk. Genom att studera levande organismers funktioner och strategier utvecklas innovationer vi behöver för att övergå till en hållbar värld.

Olen kuvataitelija joka työskentelee Perniön maaseudulla. Minulle taiteen perusta on hiljaisuus ja läsnäolo, josta impulssi syntyy. Taiteeni ei ole ennalta suunniteltu teos, enkä pyri ennalta määrättyyn päämäärään. Se on avautumista ja luottamista. Maalatessani katson, kuuntelen ja käyn dialogia teoksen kanssa, kunnes tarinat ja hahmot alkavat ohjata minua intuitiivisesti. Parhaimmillaan pääsen näkymättömän ja näkyvän maailman sillanrakentajaksi. Olen itsenäinen taiteilija intohimolla, omistautumisella ja rakkaudella. Myös valokuvaus on intohimoni ja olen pitänyt myös valokuvanäyttelyitä. Taidettani on lukuisissa yksityiskokoeilmissa, yrityksien tiloissa sekä kirjankansikuvituksissa.

I`m a visual artist working in the countryside of Perniö. For me, the foundation of my art is silence and presence, where the impulses for my work occur. My art is not pre-planned work, nor am I striving for a predetermined goal, it is about opening up and trusting. During my work, I watch, listen to and to have a dialogue with the piece until the story and characters begin to guide to me intuitively. At my best, I act as a bridge between the invisible and the visible world. I am an independent artist with passion, dedication and love. I`m also a passionate photographer, who has held also photo exhibitions. My art is shown in numerous private homes, on public premises of various businesses and also on book covers.

I have held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Finland and abroad since year 1974. I am a member of Finnish Painters Union, Society of Finnish Graphic Artists, Espoo Visual Artists' Assosiation, Viipuri Artists' Association and Turku Printmakers Assosiation.

My works are in several domestic and foreign collections, e.g. Collections of the State and Parliament of Finland, Amos Anderson Art Museum, The State Museum of Majdanek, Lublin, Poland. The 150th anniversary stamp of the Association of Finnish Artists.

I make my art with different techniques, painting, graphics, three-dimensional form. My works always have a narrative, even if the work is abstract. Colors create feelings and stories. The most important thing in my production is the colorful color palette combined with the rhythmic narrative of the form. I use strong pure colors deliberately even to the limit of good taste to make the colors play. My visual language is semi-abstract. I wonder about the phenomena of nature. I'll make pictures of them. I strive for continuous development and renewal.

Olen freelancer-taiteilija ja kuvataideterapeutti. Työskentelyni monilla eri taiteen sektoreilla, on mahdollistanut sisältörikkaan ja antoisan taiteilijan uran. Luonnon-, ihmisyyden- ja kaikenlaisen elämän ilmentymät inspiroivat, ja niin syntyvät mieleni kuvat. Teoksissani on vahvasti myös symboliikkaa, johon johdattavat myös teosten nimet. Ne ovatkin itselleni merkityksellisiä jo kuvien syntyvaiheissa. Ensimmäinen yksityisnäyttelyni oli vuonna 2004. Sen jälkeen taidettani on ollut esillä eri puolilla Suomea, yhteis- ja yksityisnäyttelyissä. Teokseni ovat akryylimaalauksia kankaalle, joissa on mukana osittain myös kohostruktuuria. Omanlaistani taiteilijantaivalta kulkeneena, olen onnistunut löytämään tunnistettavan tavan tehdä myös kuvataidettani.

I am a freelance artist and an art therapist. Working in many sectors of art has given me a diverse and fulfilling career. The images springing into my mind are inspired by the natural and the humane – by life. There is a strong undercurrent of symbolism already starting with the names. The stories told have a personal significance from early on in the creation process. My first solo exhibition was in 2004. My art has been on display around Finland in galleries and other spaces ever since in both joint and solo exhibitions. The paintings are made on canvas with acrylic colors and relief structure. After a decades-long journey as an artist, I have been able to find my own, recognizable and original way of creating visual art.

Olen varsinais-suomalainen kuvataiteilija ja toiminut yli 25 vuotta kuvataiteen parissa. Taiteeni käsittelee luonnon ja ihmisen välistä vuorovaikutusta, tunteita ja muistojen kerroksellisuutta. Maalaustyylini liikkuu esittävän ja abstraktin välimaastossa. Taiteelleni on ominaista luonnon mystisyys ja värien loisto, nämä tuovat teoksiini syvyyttä ja monikerroksisuutta. Maalauksissani käsittelen kaikkea mitä näen ja tunnen. Kaikkea mikä on lähellä asuvaa, olevaa ja elävää. Haluan näyttää kauneutta sellaisista asioista, joita pidetään itsestäänselvyytenä sekä rohkaista katsomaan asioita uusin silmin.

I am a visual artist from Finland, with over 25 years of experience in the field of visual arts. My art explores the interaction between nature and humanity, emotions, and the layered nature of memories. My painting style transitions between representational and abstract. A hallmark of my work is the mystique of nature and the vibrancy of colors, which bring depth and complexity to my pieces. In my paintings, I depict everything I see and feel—everything close to life, being, and existence. I aim to reveal the beauty in things often taken for granted and inspire others to see the world with fresh eyes.

I am Dutch, but I consider myself cosmopolitan. I lived in many countries, due to my work and my family. Now I live in Helsinki for more then 25 years. I attended art classes in London and continued in Helsinki. I am a member of Espoo art ry. I did participate in numerous joint exhibitions in Helsinki, during the last 20 years. As well as in Tokyo, Paris, Lisbon and Malaga Spain, Rome, and in 2025 in Berlin. I have my own studio in Espoo, and this has been so important for me.

Olen hollantilainen, mutta pidän itseäni kosmopoliittisena. Asuin monissa maissa työni ja perheeni vuoksi. Nyt olen asunut Helsingissä yli 25 vuotta. Kävin taidetunneilla Lontoossa ja jatkoin Helsingissä. Olen Espoon taideyhdistyksen jäsen. Olen osallistunut lukuisiin yhteisnäyttelyihin Helsingissä viimeisen 20 vuoden aikana. Sekä Tokiossa, Pariisissa, Lissabonissa ja Malagassa Espanjassa, Roomassa ja vuonna 2025 Berliinissä. Minulla on oma studio Espoossa, ja tämä on ollut minulle niin tärkeää.

Valmistuin kuvataiteilijaksi kesällä 2025 Helsingissä. Nuorempana en olisi voinut kuvitellakaan tekeväni kuvataidetta työkseni. Elämä on kuitenkin tehnyt tehtävänsä, ja saatoin yllätyksekseni nelisen vuotta sitten löytää sisälläni uinuneen luovuuden. Sen avulla tuon esiin syvimpiä ajatuksiani, tunteitani ja kokemuksiani ympäröivästä maailmasta. Se maailma on hurja. Se maailma on kaunis. Kerron maalausteni avulla tarinaa siitä, millaista naisena oleminen on. Tutkin historiasta käsin, mitä naiseudessa on tavattu pitää pyhänä ja tavoiteltavana. Ihanteiden rinnalla maalaan myös naisen todellista elämää: sen kauneutta – toisinaan myös kauheutta. Pyrin taiteessani löytämään yhdistäviä tekijöitä, jotta erilaisuuden sijaan kiinnittäisimme huomiota samankaltaisuuksiimme eri taustoista huolimatta. Runsaita ja värikkäitä teoksiani sävyttävät melankolia ja kaukokaipuu, mutta myös luottamus kaikkeen hyvään maailmassa ja lopulta ihmisen tarkoitusperissä. Työskentelen sekatekniikalla alumiinille yhdistäen akryylivärejä maalauksen pohjaelementiksi, toisinaan hiiltä luonnosteluun ja lopuksi öljyvärimaalausta.

I graduated as a visual artist in the summer of 2025 in Helsinki, Finland. When I was younger, I could never have imagined pursuing visual art as a profession. Yet life took its course, and to my surprise, I uncovered a long-dormant creativity within myself. Through it, I give form to my deepest thoughts, emotions, and reflections on the surrounding world. That world is fierce. That world is beautiful. My paintings tell stories of what it means to live as a woman. History shows us many examples of what qualities are regarded as sacred or aspirational for a woman. Alongside these ideals, I depict the realities of women’s lives: their beauty— and at times their hardship. In my practice, I seek the connections that bind us, so that instead of focusing on differences, we may recognize our shared humanity across diverse backgrounds. My works, abundant and colorful, carry a tone of melancholy and longing, yet they also embody trust—in the goodness of the world and, ultimately, in human intention. I work in mixed media on aluminum, layering acrylics as a base, sometimes charcoal for sketching, and finally oil paint.

My art exists in two realms — like day and night, like breath and dream. On one side, there is the sea. In my work, it is not just a landscape, but a force of nature, the living breath of the planet. It speaks through silence, through glimmers of light, in the rhythm of waves. Years spent at sea have woven it into my inner world. But there is another realm — one born in dreams: through vivid images or poetic lines. Themes arrive suddenly, like whispers, like the breath of the unknown. It is a space of symbols, half-tones, and unspoken meanings.I strive to capture the atmosphere of a dream — elusive, layered, profound.Dreams and journeys intertwine, becoming visual poems. Each piece is an invitation to contemplation and inner dialogue, where the boundaries of reality dissolve and feelings speak louder than words. What matters to me is not only what is seen, but what is felt in the silence between brushstrokes. This is how my painting is born — as a journey into the space of “here and nowhere,” where the line between the visible and the felt disappears. It is an experience of presence in the moment and a touch of the unknown. Art, for me, is a way to listen to silence, to catch the light, to capture a mood that cannot be expressed in words. I aim to convey not form, but state — fleeting, deep, like the reflection of a dream on the surface of water.

Taiteeni elää kahdessa maailmassa — kuin päivä ja yö, kuin hengitys ja uni. Toisessa maailmassa on meri. Merellä vietetyt vuodet ovat tehneet siitä erottamattoman osan sisäistä maailmaani. Teoksissani meri ei ole pelkkä maisema, vaan luonnonvoima: se puhuu hiljaisuudessa, valon välähdyksissä ja aaltojen rytmissä. Toinen maailmani syntyy unista — kuvien ja runollisten sanojen virrasta. Pyrin tavoittamaan unen ilmapiirin: katoavan, kerroksellisen ja syvän. Se on symbolien ja sanattomien merkitysten tila, jossa teemat ilmestyvät kuin kuiskaukset, kuin tuntemattoman hengitys. Jokainen teos on kutsu sisäiseen dialogiin, jossa todellisuuden rajat hälvenevät ja tunteet puhuvat sanoja voimakkaammin. Minulle taide ei ole vain näkyvää, vaan myös sitä, mikä jää siveltimenvedon hiljaisuuteen. Maalaukseni ovat matkoja paikkaan “tässä ja ei missään” — tilaan, jossa näkyvän ja koetun välinen raja katoaa. Taide on minulle tapa kuunnella hiljaisuutta, vangita valo ja taltioida mieliala, jota sanat eivät voi täysin kuvata.

Olen taiteilija Hyvinkäältä. Maalaan akryylimaalauksia. Lisäksi piirrän ja teen grafiikkaa. Taiteeni on seikkailu mielikuvitukseeni ja elämäni pieniin ja suuriin hetkiin. Kuvakieleni on pääasiassa esittävää, mutta myös mielikuvituksellista ja teoksista löytyy piilomerkityksiä, jotka ovat henkilökohtaisia ja tapani selvitä tästä elämästä. Toivon että jokainen katsoja löytää teoksista omat merkityksensä. Työskentelen usein intuitiivisesti ja työ saattaa elää ja muuttua matkan varrella. Teosteni teemat ja aiheet ovat vuosien varrella vaihdelleet oman mielialan ja elämänkulkuni mukaisesti. Taiteilijana haluan luoda mielikuvitukseni, ajatukseni, arkeni, onneni ja tuskani kuvaksi, luoda myös onnen hetkiä katsojalle ja joskus jopa kyseenalaistaa totuttuja ajattelumalleja. En yleensä halua toistaa näkemääni, haluan maalata sen mitä ajatukseni ja käteni luovat.

I am an artist from Hyvinkää. I paint acrylic paintings. I also draw and make graphics. My art is an adventure to my imagination and to the small and big moments of my life. My visual language is mainly expressive, but also imaginative, and the works have hidden meanings that are personal and my way of surviving this life. I hope that every viewer finds their own meaning in the works. I often work intuitively and the work may live and change along the way. The themes and subjects of my works have varied over the years according to my own mood and life course. As an artist, I want to create a picture of my imagination, thoughts, everyday life, happiness and pain, also create moments of happiness for the viewer and sometimes even question familiar patterns of thinking. I usually don't want to repeat what I see, I want to paint what my thoughts and hands create.

Katri Vehmaa on itseoppinut taiteilija, joka aloitti pastelleilla vuonna 2020 ja työskentelee nykyään pääasiassa akryyliväreillä, taitavasti yhdistäen abstrakteja taustoja silmiinpistäviin eläimiin. Hän kokeilee rohkeasti ja luo eloisia, herkkiä mutta voimakkaita sommitelmia: hänen tekniikkansa kerrostaa sulavia väripesuja taustoille ja kehystää kohtauksen rohkeilla mustilla reunoilla – täysin hänen oma tyylinsä. Hänen taiteensa säteilee intuitiivista energiaa, jonka tavoitteena on välittää tarkoituksenmukaista tunnetta ja yhteyttä suoraan katsojalle.

Katri Vehmaa is a self-taught painter who began with pastels in 2020 and now works primarily in acrylic, skillfully blending abstract backgrounds with striking animals. She experiments boldly, creating vibrant, delicate yet powerful compositions: her technique layers fluid color washes for backgrounds and frames the scene with bold black edges, a style entirely her own. Her art radiates a sense of intuitive energy, aiming to transmit purposeful emotion and connection directly to the viewer.

I am a self-taught artist from Helsinki, and my paintings reflect my colorful and bubbly personality. I want my art to capture attention, inviting people to stay a little longer and maybe even smile in front of it. My works are playful, yet they carry an edge, blending boldness with sweetness in surprising ways. I am fascinated by contrasts, strength meeting vulnerability, chaos meeting harmony, sharpness softened by beauty. Through vivid colors, surreal combinations, and symbolic elements I build a world that feels both familiar and unexpected. Animals, flowers, and pop cultural references often find their way into my canvases, becoming characters of their own. For me, painting is a way to channel energy and emotion into something visual and alive. I want my art to feel empowering, while still leaving space for curiosity and joy. Each piece is meant to speak directly to the viewer, without the need for explanations. What matters to me is not only how a work looks, but how it makes someone feel. Even in fierce or intense subjects, I always add a playful twist that keeps the mood light. In that sense, my art is a mirror of how I experience life: layered, passionate, but never without humor. At its core, my practice is about connection between colors, ideas, and ultimately, people. I believe art should spark both thought and feeling, and hopefully stay with the viewer long after they walk away.

Vuosi 2025 on ollut minulle taiteilijana poikkeuksellisen kansainvälinen. Teoksiani on kutsuttu esille näyttelyihin ja gallerioihin ympäri Eurooppaa, Japaniin sekä Pohjois-Amerikkaan. Erityisen merkityksellisenä koen kuitenkin sen, että saan esitellä teoksiani myös Suomessa – AVA Galleriassa. Maalaan intuitiolla, ja usein teoksiini muodostuu maisema, joka avaa ikkunan uuteen päivään. Pyrin vangitsemaan hetken, joka kantaa mukanaan kauneutta, toivoa ja voimaa. Kun teos ripustetaan seinälle, se voi tarjota katsojalle pysähdyksen ja tilan hengittää – pienen välähdyksen valosta ja rauhasta arjen keskellä. Olen iloinen ja kiitollinen mahdollisuudesta jakaa taiteeni suomalaiselle yleisölle täällä AVA Galleriassa, ja toivon, että löydät teoksistani omanlaistasi kauneutta ja voimaa.

The year 2025 has been exceptionally international for me as an artist. My works have been invited to several exhibitions and galleries across Europe, Japan, and North America. I am especially delighted by the opportunity to be presented in Osaka at the invitation of AVA Gallery – Japan is an important source of inspiration for me, and it is a great honor to share my art here. My paintings are born from intuition. They often unfold as landscapes, as moments from a new day to come. I strive to capture that fragile, fleeting glimpse where beauty and hope meet. Maalauksiani on ollut esillä näyttelyissä Helsingissä, Madridissa, Milanossa, Luxemburgissa, New Yorkissa sekä nyt ensimmäistä kertaa Osakassa. Teoksiani kuuluu useisiin yksityiskokoelmiin eri puolilla Eurooppaa.

Toimin myös muotoilijana ja graafisena suunnittelijana. Olen luonut ja kuvittanut kansainvälisen lastenbrändin Momolun.

I am an artist, designer, illustrator, and art educator. I hold a Master of Arts degree from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH) and from Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture. My paintings have been exhibited in Helsinki, Madrid, Milan, Luxembourg, New York, and now for the first time in Osaka. My works are also included in several private collections across Europe.

In addition, I work as a designer and graphic designer. I am the creator and illustrator of the international children’s brand Momolu.

Maalaukseni ovat intuitiivisesti syntyneitä mielenmaisemia, joissa luonnon villi, koskematon kauneus säväyttää ja herkistää syviä alkukantaisia tunteita. Teoksissani tutkin villikukkien ohikiitävää kauneutta ja pyrin vangitsemaan hetkiä, joina aito luonto paljastaa arvoituksellisen, ja usein satunnaisen loistonsa. Ne ovat kuin näkyjä, jotka synnyttävät syvän, primitiivisen yhteyden maailmankaikkeuteen. Rakastan outoutta ja jopa lievää sekavuutta taiteessani, sen on tarkoitus hehkuttaa ja korostaa tätä mystistä, enigmaattista tunneyhteyttä luonnonvoimiin. Asun Italiassa, Roomassa, ja työskentelen myös oppaana Roomassa ja Vatikaanissa. Osallistun näyttelyihin ja taidetapahtumiin lähinnä Italiassa, ja satunnaisesti Suomessakin, olen Helsingin taideyhdistyksen jäsen. Järjestän myös pienimuotoista taide-residenssi toimintaa Italian Braccianossa.

My paintings are intuitive landscapes of the mind, where nature's wild, untouched beauty captivates and evokes deep, primal emotions. In my work, I explore the fleeting beauty of wildflowers, striving to capture moments when authentic nature reveals its enigmatic and often random splendor. These are like visions that forge a profound, primitive connection to the universe. I embrace the odd strangeness and even a slight chaos in my art, as it is intended to emphasize and to highlight this mystical, enigmatic emotional connection. I live and work in Rome, Italy, where I also serve as a tour-guide in Rome and the Vatican. I participate in art exhibitions and art-events mainly in Italy, but occasionally in Finland, and I am a member of the Helsinki Artists’ Association (HTY). I also organize small-scale art-residencies in Bracciano, Italy.

Liisa Viima

Liisa Viima is a Finnish contemporary artist based in Espoo, Finland (born in 1961) whose work blends abstraction with symbolic storytelling. Her art is characterized by vibrant colours, layered textures, and emotionally resonant compositions. She works across media, from traditional oil painting to experimental mixed techniques. Paris Mon Amour is painted in oils and captures the poetic charm of a Parisian night. Warm hues, glowing reflections, and architectural details evoke nostalgia and intimacy. Tu m’as promis, in contrast, is created with epoxy resin and gypsum reliefs shaped using stencils. The surface is richly textured, featuring metallic pigments, floral motifs, and musical symbols. Liisa’s way of working adds depth and tactile presence to her compositions. Her visual language often includes recurring symbols such as stars, hearts, birds, and script. Realism is not my aim.

I want to leave room for imagination and having fun while painting. I might paint wings on a mouse or what ever springs to my mind. So partly my paintings are pure imagination and partly not.

Margit Hirvonen syntyi Unkarissa vuonna 1952. Hyvin nuorena hänen piti päättää ammatinvalinnasta kuvataiteen ja klassisen musiikin välillä. Vaikka musiikki vei voiton, hän ei koskaan luopunut toisesta intohimostaan. Pécsin opiskeluvuosien jälkeen Hirvonen ehti työskennellä Budapestissa pari vuotta, minkä jälkeen hän muutti töiden perässä Suomeen, jossa hän asuu edelleen. Viimeiset 25 vuotta kuvataide on dominoinut Hirvosen elämää. Grafiikka, öljymaalaus ja akvarellimaalaus ovat tekniikat, joilla hänen taulunsa syntyvät. Hirvosen teosten aiheiden lähteitä ovat koetut ja vaikuttavat hetket, jotka ovat jättäneet häneen jäljen. Vuodesta 2000 alkaen Hirvonen on osallistunut lukuisin ryhmänäyttelyihin eri taiteilijaryhmien kanssa eri puolilla Suomea. Hirvonen on osallistunut teoksillaan näyttelyihin myös ulkomailla, kuten Venetsian kansainväliseen Bodyspaces-näyttelyyn syyskuussa 2024. Ensimmäinen Hirvosen yksityisnäyttely oli vuonna 2011 ja viimeisin näyttely jatkuu parhaillaan Unkarissa vuoden 2025 tammikuuhun asti. Hirvosesta on tehty artikkeleita taidejulkaisuihin, kuten Suomen Taiteilijat ry:n matrikkeliin vuonna 2023 sekä Artist of Today and Tomorrow 5 -matrikkeliin vuonna 2024.

Margit Hirvonen was born in Hungary in 1952. At a very young age, she had to decide on a career path between visual arts and classical music. Although music won out, she never gave up on her other passion. After her studies in Pécs, Hirvonen worked in Budapest for a couple of years, after which she moved to Finland for work, where she still resides. For the past 25 years, visual art has dominated Hirvonen's life. Graphics, oil painting, and watercolor painting are the techniques used to create her paintings. The themes of Hirvonen's works originate from experienced and impactful moments that have left a mark on her. Since 2000, Hirvonen has participated in numerous group exhibitions with various artist groups across Finland. Hirvonen's works have also been exhibited abroad, such as at the Venice International exhibition ”Bodyspaces” in September 2024. Hirvonen's first solo exhibition was in 2011, and her latest exhibition is currently ongoing in Hungary until January 2025. Articles about Hirvonen have been published in art publications, such as the Finnish Artists' Association's catalogue in 2023 and the Artist of Today and Tomorrow 5 catalogue in 2024.

Ajattelen usein töitäni vuoropuheluina. Ne ovat syntyneet keskustelusta minun ja paperin tai kankaan välillä. Värien, viivojen ja muotojen kautta olen jatkuvassa vuorovaikutuksessa pohjamateriaalien kanssa. Paperille roiskin tai painan väritahroja paperille, kankaalle tai puulle. Näin syntyy viittauksia, merkkejä, joihin reagoin spontaanisti ja työstän ne eteenpäin graafisin tai maalauksellisin menetelmiin. Improvisoin ja kokeilen, joskus käytän kollaasitekniikka. Yhdistelen vapaasti erilaisia materiaaleja ja tekniikoita keskenään. Viime aikoina olen käyttänyt öljyliituja tai puuvärikyniä saadakseni erilaisia pintoja ja syvyyksiä. Keskeinen teema, joka kiinnostaa ja inspiroi, on ihmisyys ja luonnon monimuotoisuus. Näyttelyn teokset ovat kukkia tai pikemmin fantasiamaailmoja kukkia muistuttavista muodoista. Ne ilmestyvät, kun työstän vapaasti väreillä maalattua pohjaa värikynillä eteenpäin. Luonnonmuodot paljastuvat pikkuhiljaa ja aloitus on, kuin kysymys, jota käytän ohjauksena seikkailuun ja löytöön. Yllätykset matkan varrella voivat laajentaa aihepiiriä ja tuoda uusia näkemyksiä. Käyttämäni tekniikka, joka kasvaa kerroksittain, tukee teosteni sisällöllistä ja ilmaisullista moninaisuutta.

I often think of my works as results of a dialogue. They arise from a conversation between me and the base material. Through colours, lines and shapes, I constantly interact with what ́s happening on the surface. I splash or print color spots onto paper, canvas or wood. This is how allusions or signs occur to which I react spontaneously. I elaborate them further using graphic- or painting methods. I improvise and experiment, sometimes I use collage techniques. I freely combine different materials and techniques. Lately I have been using oil crayons and colour pencils to get different surfaces or more depth into the images. The overall theme that intrests me is humanity and biodiversity. The pieces on display are also descriptions that have arisen from traces made intuitively and spontaneously onto the base material. Lately I have been using colour pencil for a second layer to create detailed and defined organic shapes that resemble flowers or plants. These natural shapes reveal themselves gradually, and the beginning is like a question that I use as guidance for adventure and discovery. Surprises along the way can broaden the theme and bring new insights. The technique I use, which grows organically in layers, supports the content of my works and their expressive diversity.

As an artist I rely on intuition and my academic interest lies in the phenomenology of perception. One observation leads to another, it encounters a memory and gives birth to a new one in bright and vibrant colours. My images include stories from trips abroad and foreign cultures, mixed with my own… and experiences in my everyday life - decorated with feathers, fur and hair - in the Finnish countryside. Nature is an endless muse as well as the pulsating metropolises around the world. In these stories I combine visual arts and design, which I consider the most natural media for me. In my mixed media, I combine photography, painting and computer-aided image processing.

Taiteilijana luotan intuitioon, ja akateeminen kiinnostukseni myös taiteessa on fenomenologia. Havainto johtaa toiseen, palauttaa muiston ja synnyttää uuden kirkkaissa ja puhtaissa väreissä. Kuvani ovat kerroksellisia tarinoita matkoiltani ja vieraista kulttuureista, jotka sulautuvat omaani,…ja kokemuksistani sulin, höyhenin ja karvoin koristellusta arkipäivästäni suomalaisella maaseudulla. Niin luonto kuin sykkivät suurkaupungit toimivat runsaudensarvena, muusana. Ilmaisutapani - kuvataiteen ja muotoilun yhdistämisen - koen luontevaksi. Olen suomalainen akvarellitaiteilija (s. 1948), lähtöisin Etelä-Pohjanmaalta. Asun ja työskentelen vuodesta 1989 lähtien Ruotsissa, jossa olen opiskellut kuvataidetta ja muotoilua. Minulla on Tukholmassa ateljee vuosisadanvaihteen talossa luonnon keskellä. Mälaren-järven rannalla, metsän reunassa. Kesäkuukausina maalaan meren äärellä Helsingin Lauttasaaren kauniissa maisemissa. Luonto on minulle loppumaton inspiraation lähde. Maalaan vapaasti, pelkistäen näkemääni. Haluan teoksissani välittää tunnetta ja tunnelmaa. Teen myös kolmiulotteista taidetta eri materiaaleista. Lasi on materiaali, joka kiehtoo minua. Teen uniikkia lasitaidetta sulatustekniikalla. Olen pitänyt lukuisia yksityisnäyttelyjä, ja minun taidettani on ollut esillä gallerioissa ja museoissa ympäri maailmaa. Olen voittanut kansainvälisiä akvarellikilpailuja.

I am a Finnish artist (b. 1948) living and working in Sweden since 1989. After studyng fine arts and design, I chose watercolour as my main medium. My studio in Stockholm is located in quiet, beautiful surroundings by Lake Mälaren, next to a forest. During summer months, I paint watercolour plein air by the sea on the Lauttasaari island in Helsinki. Nature is my endless source of inspiration. I paint freely, leaving out details, simplifying what I see. I want to express mood and atmosphere in my works. I also create three-dimensional art using various materials. Glass is a medium that fascinates me. I make unique glass art in a fusing technique. I have had numerous solo exhibitions, and my works have been shown in galleries and museums worldwide. I have won international watercolour competitions.

Öljyvärimaalauksen maailma avautui minulle vuonna 2020 Avoimessa taidekoulussa. Siitä lähtien tuotannossani on toistunut yksi pysyvä elementti, ympyrä. Tämä yksinkertainen ja tuttu muoto symboloi minulle elämää, jatkuvuutta ja eheyttä. Ympyrä on lempeä ja lähestyttävä, pehmeä muttei pehmo. Teoksissani tutkin ympyrää värikontrastien, pintarakenteiden ja mittasuhteiden kautta. Ympyrän harmoninen muoto kutsuu pysähtymään, katsomaan ja löytämään uusia näkökulmia tuttujen asioiden ääreltä.

I’m Minna Pyykölä, originally from Oulu, Finland. Now I’m based in Helsinki. I paint oil on canvas, wood, and plywood. The diversity of materials and the importance of craftsmanship are the most important things to me, while curiosity and a spirit of experimentation continuously lead me onto new artistic paths. I entered the world of oil painting in 2020, when I began my studies at the Open Art School (Avoin taidekoulu) in Helsinki. Since then, one recurring element has remained constant in my work: the circle. For me, this simple yet profound shape symbolizes life, continuity, and wholeness. The circle is gentle and approachable, soft but never sentimental. In my paintings, I explore the circle through contrasts of color, surface textures, and variations in scale. Its harmonious form invites the viewer to pause, to look closely, and to discover new perspectives within what may seem familiar.

Huumori on tapani kertoa synkistäkin asioista. Siksi synkkyys ja huumori on usein kuvissani esillä. Teen kuvia erilaisilla tekniikoilla ja ekspressiivisellä otteella.

Painting is a way for me to deal with things that are happening in my life and in the world. I want to use my pictures to encourage people to see different sides of things and their effects on each other. Humor is my way of telling stories about even dark things. That's why darkness and humor are often present in my pictures. I make pictures with different techniques and an expressive approach.

I am a visual artist and a designer from Helsinki. I have always lived surrounded by art, so my interest in visual art began at an early age. Art has always been an important part of my life. For as long as I can remember, I have paid attention to shapes, materials and colors. I have a desire to express my inner self, my feelings, and my deepest truths in a way that words alone cannot. Art is a kind of spiritual food, giving me the opportunity to experience inner depth. Art brings a more enriching way to navigate the world. Art is not just a skill, but a path to self-discovery, emotional release and universal connection; this mysterious inner drive calls me to create. Visual art provides a wordless way to express emotions. In my paintings I use different methods such as acrylic and oil colors, sand, mixed media, and natural materials. Life and the world around us are full of ideas. The subjects of my paintings often arise from imagination, dreams, the subconscious wonderworld and travel experiences. Sometimes my works develop partly by themselves, partly consciously. Painting is a way of being, and colors are vibrant nourishment and life. It is exciting to see how a new picture emerges. Sometimes it happens unexpectedly, as if a magic wand has swept over the painting.

Olen kuvataitelija ja graafinen suunnittelija Helsingistä. Olen aina elänyt taiteen ympäröimänä, joten kiinnostukseni kuvataiteeseen alkoi jo varhain. Niin kauan kuin muistan, olen kiinnittänyt huomioita muotoihin, materiaaleihin ja väreihin. Minulla on halu ilmaista sisintäni, tunteitani ja syvimpiä totuuksiani tavalla, johon pelkät sanat eivät pysty. Taide on eräänlaista henkistä ravintoa antaen minulle mahdollisuuden kokea sisäistä syvyyttä, tarjoten rikastuttavamman tavan navigoida maailmassa. Taide ei ole vain taitoa, vaan polku itsensä löytämiseen, tunteiden vapauttamiseen ja universaaliin yhteyteen, jossa aistii syvän, usein mystisen, sisäisen voiman, joka kutsuu luomaan uutta. Kuvataide antaa mahdollisuuden sanattomaan tunteiden ilmaisuun. Työstän maalauksiani eri menetelmillä kuten akryylillä, öljyllä, hiekalla ja sekatekniikalla sekä luonnon materiaaleilla. Koko ympärillä oleva maailma on täynnä ideoita. Maalausteni aiheet syntyvät usein mielikuvituspohjalta, unista, alitajunnan ihmemaasta ja matkakokemuksista. Toisinaan teokseni kehittyvät osittain itsestään, osittain tietoisesti. Maalaaminen on olemisen tapa ja värit ovat sykkivää ravintoa ja koko elämä. On aina jännittävää nähdä, miten uusi kuva syntyy. Joskus se tapahtuu odottamatta, aivan kuin taikasauva olisi pyyhkäissyt yli maalauksen.

Oona Nakai on suomalais-japanilainen taiteilija, joka on valmistunut Pekka Halosen Akatemiasta. Hän työskentelee pääasiassa maalaten akryyleillä-, öljyillä- ja musteella. Hänen teoksissaan yhdistyvät suomalaisen luonnon rauha ja japanilaisen estetiikan hienovaraisuus. Kahden kultturin välinen kokemus on keskeinen osa hänen ilmaisuaan – kahdesta taustasta syntyy jotain uutta ja ainutlaatuista. Nakain teoksissa voi nähdä symboliikkaa, joka ammentaa sekä suomalaisesta että japanilaisesta kuvaperinteestä, kuten Hanafuda-pelikorteista. Hän on osallistunut useisiin näyttelyihin Suomessa, ja hänen teoksiaan on keräilty yksityiskokoelmiin ympäri maailmaa. Tämä näyttely on hänen ensimmäisensä Japanissa.

Oona Nakai is a Finnish-Japanese artist and a graduate of the Pekka Halonen Academy. She primarily works with acrylics, oils, and ink. Her art blends the serenity of Finnish nature with the subtle elegance of Japanese aesthetics. Drawing from her bicultural background, Nakai creates something new and unique—where two halves form more than one. Her works often incorporate symbolic elements inspired by both Finnish and Japanese traditions, such as the visual language of Hanafuda cards. She has exhibited her artwork in Finland, and her artworks have been collected in private collections around the world. This is her first exhibition in Japan.

Haluan jättää katsojille mahdollisuuden tulkita maalauksiani ja valokuviani haluamallaan tavalla. Minun näkemykseni ja mistä ne tulivat ovat toissijaisia.

Toivon, että maalaukseni ja valokuvani puhuttelevat katsojia myönteisellä tavalla ja inspiroivat heitä tekemään myönteisiä asioita elämässään.

I have been involved in the arts since I was a child. I have photographed, drawn and painted. I have also been fascinated by architecture. The camera has always been with me on my travels around the world. And there have been many of them!

I want to leave the viewers with the opportunity to interpret my paintings and photographs in their own way. My views and where they came from are secondary.

I hope that my paintings and photographs speak to the viewers in a positive way and inspire them to do positive things in their lives.

Olen aikaisemmin tehnyt taidetta opettajan työni ohessa useampien vuosien aikana, mutta viime vuosien aikana (2021-alkaen) olen keskittynyt enemmän omaan taiteelliseen tuottamiseen, näyttelytoimintaan ja teosten tuomiseen myös suuremman yleisön pariin, koska taiteen tekeminen on intohimoni. Haluan myös, että taidenäyttely on tapahtuma, jonka voi kokea monella eri tavalla.Teen pääasiassa akryyli- ja öljyvärimaalauksia kankaalle. Teosteni inspiraation lähteinä toimivat luonto sekä värit, valot ja varjot, jotka myös saavat aikaan erilaisia tunnelmia. Mystisyys, näkymättömyyden tuleminen näkyväksi sekä erilaiset värien ja musiikin yhdistävät elementit löytyvät usein teoksistani. Omistan osalle maalauksistani itse tekemiäni musiikkiteoksia, jotka ovat sävellyksineen ja sanoituksineen samaa henkeä teoksien kanssa. Tarinat ja kuvat soivat tietyissä väreissä luoden yleensä hieman melankolisia sävyjä niin kuvataiteeseeni kuin musiikkiini. Teokseni ovat myös usein erilaisia muistoja, elämäntapahtumia, takautumia ja tarinoita.

I have previously made art alongside my work as a teacher over the course of several years, but in recent years (from 2021) I have focused more on my own artistic production, exhibition activities and bringing my works to a larger audience as well, because making art is my passion. I also want the art exhibition to be an art event that can be experienced in many different ways. I mainly do acrylic and oil paintings on canvas. The sources of inspiration for my works are nature and colors, lights and shadows, which also create different moods. Mystique, the invisible becoming visible, and various elements connecting colors and music are often found in my works. I dedicate some of my paintings to musical pieces that I made myself, which with their compositions and lyrics are in the same spirit as the works. Stories and pictures ring in certain colors, usually creating slightly melancholic tones in both my visual art and my music. My works are also often different memories, life events, flashbacks and stories.

Pia Hovi's paintings honor the nature and animals in forests. The power and sensitivity of animals are present at one time and all become entangled as one entirety. The painting includes always the lesson and certain message for us humans. It is created by intuitive fall to become abstract with needed realism. Painting leaves room for viewers own choices and possibility to reflect own inside world through the hidden,elements.

Hovi is using mixed media techniques to be able to create interesting surface structures and various nature nuances. Special focus is on color compositions which aim to ground and peace the viewer's attendance. If something beautiful, gentle, good willing or joy arouse, has the painter achieved her ultimate goal.

Hänen tyylilleen on ominaista herkkyys, mutta myös rohkeat värit ja kontrastit. Teoksissaan hän kuvaa usein Lapin maisemia ja tallentaa pohjoisen luonnon kauneutta. Päivi Suomen ateljee sijaitsee Säkylässä, Kolvaan kylässä, jossa hän asuu ja työskentelee.

Päivi Suomi (b. October 14, 1967, Säkylä) is a Finnish visual artist. Päivi Suomi's works are mostly oil and acrylic paintings, but she also creates aquarelles. Her style features sensitivity, but also bold colors and contrasts. In her works, she often represents Lapland landscapes, capturing the beauty of northern nature. Päivi Suomi's studio is located in Säkylä, in the village of Kolvaa, where she lives and works.

"I use a knife and my fingers to create oil and acrylic paintings. My art is intended to leave room for the viewer's own imagination. I have been painting professionally for 35 years and have held hundreds of exhibitions in Finland and abroad. Maalaaminen on minulle matka värien ja valon maailmaan. leikkisä tai vakava matka, joskus molempia. Olen koulutukseltani taidehistorioitsija ja maalannut aktiivisesti lähes 20 vuotta. Maalausta olen opiskellut useita vuosia mm. Helsingin Taiteilijaseuran kurssikeskuksessa, ja osallistun vuosittain ryhmä- ja yhteisnäyttelyihin. Maalaan sekä öljy- että akryyliväreillä. Öljyväreissä minua viehättää erityisesti tekniikan mahdollistama pohdiskeleva hitaus, maalausten kerroksellisuus ja himmeä hohto, akryyliväreissä mahdollisuus visuaalisiin seikkailuihin monipuolisen tekniikan avulla. Maalaamisen ohella elämääni on sisältynyt runsaasti myös muuta kulttuuria. Opiskelin nuorena oboen soittoa, ja soitin useissa harrastajaorkestereissa. Musiikki on minulle edelleen hyvin rakasta. Myös japanilainen kukkataide ikebana on osa elämääni, ja olen kouluttautunut ikebanaopettajaksi. Olen väitellyt filosofian tohtoriksi Helsingin Yliopistossa.

For me, painting is a journey into the world of colors and light, a playful or serious journey, sometimes both. I am an art historian by training, and have been actively painting for almost 20 years. I have studied painting for several years, e.g. in the Course Center of the Helsinki Artists´ Society. I paint in both oils and acrylic, and participate in group and joint exhibitions every year. In oil colors I am especially attracted by the contemplative slowness made possible by the layeredness and dull glow of the paintings, while the versatilily of acrylic provides the opportunity for visual adventures. In addition to painting, I have been involved in many other cultural activities, I studied the oboe when I was young, and played in several amateur orchestras. Music is still very dear to me. The Japanese flower art ikebana is also a part of my life, and I have trained as an ikebana teacher. I defended my doctorate in philosophy at the University of Helsinki.

La peinture c’est pour moi un voyage dans le monde des couleurs et de la lumière, un voyage ludique ou sérieux à la fois, parfois les deux. Historienne de l’art de formation, je peins activement depuis près de 20 ans. J’ai étudié la peinture pendant plusieurs années, notamment au Centre de cours de la Société des artistes d’Helsinki, et je participe chaque année à des expositions collectives et conjointes. Je travaille aussi bien à l’huile qu’à l’acrylique. Dans les peintures à l’huile, je suis particulièrement attirée par la lenteur contemplative rendue possible par la technique, la superposition chatoyante et mate des couloirs. Avec les couleurs acryliques, j’apprècie la possibilité d’explorer des aventures visuelles grâce aux techniques polyvalentes. Ma vie a également été marquée par la découverte de nombreuses autres cultures. J’ai étudié le hautbois quand j’étais jeune et j’ai joué dans plusieurs orchestres amateurs. La musique a toujours occupé une place spéciale dans mon coeur. L ’ikebana, l’art floral japonais, fait également partie de ma vie et j’ai suivi une formation pour devenir professeur d’ikebana. J’ai par ailleurs soutenu ma thèse de doctorat en philosophie à l’Université d’Helsinki.

Olen Helsingissä asuva kuvataiteilija. Ateljeeni ikkunasta avautuu näkymä yli kattojen. Jokapäiväisessä elämässä kaipaan kauneutta, ja sitä pyrin ilmaisemaan myös maalauksissani. Etsiessäni aiheita maalauksiini pidän usein mukanani kameraa tallettaakseni kiinnostavia näkymiä. En kuitenkaan maalaa luontoa sellaisenaan, ja viime aikoina olenkin siirtynyt käsittelemään aiheitani yhä abstraktimmin. Väreillä työskentely inspiroi minua niinkuin myös maalatessani kuulemani musiikki. Vaikka mielelläni käynkin klassisen musiikin konserteissa, niin maalatessani vaihdan kevyempään musiikkiin. Maalaan enimmäkseen öljyväreillä kankaalle mutta joskus vanerillekin. Menneinä vuosikymmeninä olen pitänyt lukuisia yksityisnäyttelyitä Suomessa yhteisnäyttelyiden lisäksi. Lisäksi olen osallistunut yhteisnäyttelyihin Saksassa, Espanjassa, Italiassa, Ranskassa ja Japanissa.

I am a Finnish visual artist living in Helsinki. From my studio I have a view over the roofs. Looking for beauty in my everyday life I also wish to express it in my paintings. For ideas for my paintings I carry a camera for pictures of whatever I feel interesting. Yet I don´t paint nature as it is. Recently I have turned more and more towards abstract expression. Working in colours inspires me, as does the music that I listen to while painting. While going to classical concerts is important to me, while painting, I prefer lighter music. I mostly paint in oil colours on canvas or plywood. Over the past decades I have given numerous solo exhibitions in Finland. I also have participated in group exhibitions in Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Japan as well as in Finland.

Saila Sepon maalauksissa ja veistoksissa tekninen oivallus kohtaa taiteellisen ilmaisun. Teokset on luotu taiteilijan kehittämällä muovailtavalla Sisusavi®-massalla, joka on mikroselluloosapohjainen, muovailtava ja ekologinen materiaali. Se taipuu herkiksi reliefeiksi, kolmiulotteisiksi pinnoiksi ja veistoksiksi. Massa toimii paitsi muodon myös värin kantajana: pigmentti sekoitetaan suoraan aineeseen ja levitetään käsin kankaalle.

Seppo on luonteeltaan hyvin innovatiivinen ja hänellä on useita patentteja. Taiteessa hän on luonut oman tekniikkansa ja kehittänyt sitä jatkuvasti entistä toimivampaan suuntaan. Hän on kokeillut kasvivärejä, kierrätysmateriaaleja sekä muita aineksia, kuten nanoselluloosaa, luonnonmateriaaleja ja ohutta paperia, jota hän on maalannut akvarellivärein. Hänen väriskaalansa on laaja, ja taide hyväntuulista ja tasapainoista – välillä myös abstraktia.

Saila Sepon taiteen taustalla on pitkä matka, jossa yhdistyvät kemian väitöskirjatutkimus pigmenteistä, teollinen kehitystyö sekä elinikäinen kiinnostus väreihin ja muotoihin. Sisusavi Turns into Art

In Saila Seppo’s paintings and sculptures, technical ingenuity meets artistic expression. Her works are created with Sisusavi®, a sculpting compound developed by the artist herself. The material, based on microcellulose, is moldable and ecological. It can be shaped into delicate reliefs, three-dimensional surfaces, and sculptures. Sisusavi is not only a bearer of form but also of color: pigment is mixed directly into the compound and applied by hand onto canvas. Seppo is highly innovative by nature and holds several patents. In her art, she has developed her own technique and continuously refined it to become more versatile. She has experimented with plant-based dyes, recycled materials, and other substances such as nanocellulose, natural materials, and thin paper painted with watercolors. Her color range is wide, and her art is cheerful and balanced – at times abstract. Behind Saila Seppo’s art lies a long journey that brings together her doctoral thesis in chemistry on pigments, industrial development work, and a lifelong fascination with colors and forms. In this context, art is both experimental and personal – experience inscribed in the material, open for the viewer’s interpretation.

Olen 55-vuotias suomalainen taidemaalari Helsingistä. Olen piirtänyt pienestä pitäen, mutta öljyväreillä maalaamisen aloitin vuonna 1989 ollessani 19-vuotias. Olen käynyt useita taidekouluja, aikaisemmin mm. Vapaan Taidekoulun vuosina 1992–1995 ja tuorrein oli Pekka Halosen Akatemia Tuusulassa, jossa suoritin valokuvauksen osatutkintoja vuosien 2020–2021 aikana. Pidän vartalon, kasvojen muotojen ja valöörien maalaamisesta, valot ja varjot kiehtovat, haluan niitä tutkia. Maalaan tunteella ja intensiivisesti, omaa sielunmaisemaani ja annan värien viedä mennessään. Teen usein omia ratkaisuja valoihin ja varjoihin sekä leikin väreillä. Aikaisempien öljyvärien sijasta olen nykyään siirtynyt pääasiassa akryyliväreihin. Toinen intohimoni ovat kissat. Niitä kuvaan vähän kubistisen kaltaisella tyylillä pelkistäen ja käyttäen voimakkaita värejä.

I am a 55-year-old Finnish painter from Helsinki. I have been drawing since I was little, but I started painting with oil colours in 1989 when I was 19 years old. I have attended several art schools, including the Free Art School in 1992-1995 and most recently the Pekka Halonen Academy in Tuusula, where I completed a partial degree in photography during 2020-2021. I like to paint the human body, facial shapes and shades. Lights and shadows fascinate me and I like to explore them. I paint with emotion and intensity, drawing my own soul landscape and leting the colours to take over. I often make my own solutions to lights and shadows and play with colours. Instead of the oil paints I used to use in the past, I have now switched mainly to acrylic paints. Another passion of mine is cats. I paint them in a slightly cubist style, using simplified shapes and strong colours.

Olen valokuvataiteilija joka mieluiten kuvaa ulkomailla kaupungeissa. Minuun vetoavat itse rakennukset, erilaiset puistot ja puut, yksityiskohdat, pystytetyt muistomerkit, historian kerrostumat, ajan rapauma. Pidän yksinäisistä paikoista, siitä tunnelmasta mikä niissä syntyy. Mieluiten kuvaan keskikoon 6x6 kameralla neliön muotoisia kuvia. Usein käytän vanhentunutta filmiä koska siinä värit eivät ole enää todellisia. Olen kiinnostunut siitä, miten paikat kantavat mukanaan muistoja ja merkityksiä, vaikka ihmiset olisivat jo lähteneet. Kuvissani yritän tavoittaa hetkiä, joissa arki ja poikkeuksellisuus limittyvät. En pyri dokumentoimaan todellisuutta sellaisenaan, vaan luomaan kuvia, jotka tuntuvat unilta tai muistoilta. I am a photographic artist who prefers to work abroad, especially in urban environments. I am drawn to buildings themselves, different kinds of parks and trees, details, monuments, layers of history, and the patina of time. I am fond of solitary places and the atmosphere that emerges in them. I prefer to shoot square-format images with a medium format 6x6 camera. I often use expired film, as its colors are no longer true to life. I am interested in how places carry memories and meanings, even after people have gone. In my images, I try to capture moments where the everyday and the extraordinary overlap. I am not aiming to document reality as it is, but rather to create images that feel like dreams or memories. Olen Helsingissä toimiva, vuonna 2025 valmistunut kuvataiteilija. Olen koulutukseltani myös psykologi ja psykoterapeutti. Taiteeni taustalla on tietoisuus elämän hetkellisyydestä ja katoavuudesta, sekä siihen liittyvästä kauneudesta. Työssäni pyrin ilmaisemaan tunteita ja tunnelmia mm. värin, valon ja muotojen kautta. Ihminen maalausaiheena on minulle tärkeä, ja tarkastelenkin usein maalauksissani ihmismielessä tapahtuvaa liikettä mielikuvituksen ja symbolismin keinoin. Löydän inspiraatiota monenlaisista taidemuodoista ja -tyyleistä, niin klassisesta maalaustaiteesta kuin abstraktista taiteesta. Työskentelyni on ainaisessa muutoksessa, ja nautin tästä taiteen tarjoamasta seikkailusta, jota elämäksikin kutsutaan. Maalaan pääasiassa akryyli- ja öljyväreillä esittävän ja abstraktin rajoilla kulkevia teoksia. Työskentelen mielelläni kaaoksen ja järjestyksen välisessä jännitteessä, ja työ alkaakin usein spontaanilla ja intuitiivisella akryylimaalauksella. Sen jälkeen annan alusmaalauksesta nousta mieleen kuvioita, symboleja ja jopa kokonaisia tarinoita, joista lähden rakentamaan lopullista kuvaa öljyväreillä.

I’m a Helsinki-based visual artist, graduated in 2025. I have a professional background also in psychology and psychotherapy. I seek to embrace the beauty of the moment and the ephemeral nature of life. By exploring color, light and shape, my aim is to reflect the emotional undercurrents of human life in my art and to evoke feelings and moods in the viewer. My work is figurative, exploring landscapes of the human mind with symbolism and imagination. I’m inspired by many different art forms and styles, including classical art and contemporary abstract art. My work is always evolving and changing, and I enjoy the adventure of not always knowing where I’ll end up next in my art and life. I paint mainly with acrylics and oils, in pursuit of fusing the representational and the abstract. I enjoy exploring the subtle dynamics between chaos and order, which is why I like to begin a painting with a spontaneous and intuitive use of acrylics. After that I let my imagination find patterns, symbols or even a story in the underpainting, and finally begin to construct the final image with oil paint.

Olen Oulussa asuva ja työskentelevä taiteilija. Ilmaisualani ulottuu valokuvauksesta performanssitaiteeseen. Olen työskennellyt nyt itsenäisenä taiteilijana puolentoista vuosikymmentä. Kuvataiteilijaksi valmistuin Turusta monikymmenvuotisen toimittajuus-kriitikkouteni jälkeen. Erityisen rakkaaksi minulle on muodostunut suurten niin kutsuttujen valokuva-akvarellien luominen. Menetelmän omaksuin takavuosina Limingan taidekouluaikanani. Toteuttamieni parimetristen valokuva-akvarellien työstäminen olisikin mahdotonta, jollei käytössäni olisi suurta prässiä. Sellainen, käsikäyttöinen löytyy juuri Limingasta. Vuosien varrella minulle on tarjoutunut silloin tällöin mahdollisuus vuokrata taidekoulun tilaa, ja näin on syntynyt myös Katso ihmistä. Olen Oulun Taiteilijaseura -63 ry:n jäsen, tänäkin vuonna hallitustyössä ja seuran performanssityöryhmän jäsen. Valtakunnallisessa MUU ry:ssä olen hallitustyössä sekä myös MUU:n jäsenvalintalautakunnassa. Kuulun jäsenenä myös alueelliseen Photo Northiin - Pohjoiseen Valokuvakeskukseen.

I am a visual artist living and working in Oulu. My field of expression ranges from photography to performance art. I have worked now as an independent artist for a decade and a half, after graduating in Turku. Before this, I spent my first professional career of many decades as a journalist and critic. I have become particularly fond of creating large, so-called photographic aquarelle. I adopted the method in recent years during my time at the The Liminka School of Arts. Working with the two-meter photographic aquarelle I have created would be impossible, if I didn't have a large press at my disposal. One of these, a hand-operated one, can be found in Liminka. Over the years, I have occasionally had the opportunity to rent the space of an art school, and that is how Katso ihmistä (Ecce Homo / Behold the Human Being) was born. I am a member of the Oulu Artists Association, and also on the board and a member of the association's performance working group. I am on the board of the national Artists' Association MUU and also on the MUU membership selection committee. I am also a member of the Northern Photographic Centre.

Olen saanut syntymälahjana innostuksen taiteeseen. Luonto puhuttelee minua voimakkaasti, kuten myös tarinat luonnonhengistä, maahisista ja haltioista. Kaikki tämä antaa minulle energiaa ja inspiraatiota, mikä heijastuu taiteessani. Rakastan kaikkien neljän vuodenajan monimuotoisuutta, ainutlaatuisuutta ja kauneutta. Minua koskettaa myös luonnon haavoittuvuus. Aistin myös näkymättömän maailman läsnäolon. Joskus näkymätön tulee näkyväksi maalauksissani tahattomasti.

Tykkään kokeilla erilaisia tekniikoita. Akryyli- ja sekatekniikalla maalaamisen lisäksi olen tehnyt kierrätystaidetta muun muassa huovasta, kankaan- ja paperin palasista. Työskentelen erilaisten tunnetilojen kanssa ja näen maailman ikään kuin erilaisten värillisten suodattimien läpi. Vihreä, sininen ja violetti ovat taiteessani erittäin vahvoja.

En yleensä suunnittele töitäni etukäteen, vaan annan intuition ja inspiraation johdattaa minua. En tiedä aluksi, millainen teos syntyy. Saatan ottaa maalia tai muuta materiaalia ja mieleni alkaa tuoda visiota silmiini ja teos alkaa hitaasti muotoutua. Suunnittelen vain tilaustöitä etukäteen. Töitäni on eniten nähtävissä Instagramissa @siskomart.

I was born with a passion for art. Nature speaks to me strongly, as do stories about nature spirits, fairies and elves. All of this gives me energy and inspiration, which is reflected in my art. I love the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of all four seasons. I am also touched by the vulnerability of nature. I also sense the presence of the invisible world. Sometimes the invisible becomes visible in my paintings unintentionally.

I like to experiment with different techniques. In addition to painting with acrylics and mixed media, I have made recycled art from felt, pieces of fabric and paper, among other things. I work with different emotional states and see the world as if through different color filters. Green, blue and purple are very strong in my art.

I usually do not plan my works in advance but let intuition and inspiration guide me. I do not know first what kind of work will be created. I may take paint or other materials, and my mind will start to bring a vision to my eyes and the work will slowly begin to take shape. I only plan commissioned work in advance. Teokseni ovat mieleni maisemia ja ne syntyvät vuoropuheluna luonnon kanssa ja kaipuustani valoon. Vuodenaikoijen vaihtelu näkyy töissäni vahvasti. Työskentelen pääosin akryyli- ja akvarelliväreillä, jotka ovat keskenään hyvin erilaisia mutta antavat ilmaisulle laajan työkentän. Erilaiset struktuurit ja kerroksellisuus inspiroivat minua ja maalaan akryylityöni usein palettivetsellä ja tuon esiin pintoja ja muotoja raaputtamalla. Akvarelleissa minua kiehtovat läpikuultavuus ja herkkyys. Maalaaminen on hengittämistä. Olen Suomen taiteilijat ry:n jäsen ja olen osallistunut useisiin ryhmänäyttelyihin Suomessa. Marraskuussa 2025 on kolmas yksityisäyttelyni Suomessa.

My works are landscapes of my mind and they are born as a dialogue with nature and my longing for light. The cycle of the four seasons in Finland shape my works strongly. I work with aquarelle and acrylics – two very different medias. Together they give a wide scope for expression. Different structures and layers inspire me and I often paint my acrylic works with a palette knife and bring out surfaces and shapes by scratching. In aquarelle, I am fascinated by translucency and sensitivity. Painting is breathing. For me it is an important way to process different emotions, where the canvas acts as a good receptive surface.

I am a member of the Artists’ Association of Finland and have participated in several group exhibitions in Finland. My third solo exhibition will be held in November 2025.

Olen, 53-vuotias kuvataiteilija ja taideterapian ohjaaja kanta-Hämeestä. Taide on kulkenut mukanani koko elämäni, ensin musiikin parissa, ja myöhemmin kuvataiteen parissa. Työurani olen tehnyt terveydenhoito alalla, mutta nykyään saan tehdä taidetta omassa yrityksessäni, Iloinen Sivellin. Teen taidetta myyntiin ja näyttelyihin sekä pidän työpajoja eri ikäisille, jossa jokainen saa tulla taiteilemaan matalalla kynnyksellä. Mielestäni taide kuuluu kaikille. Olemme syntyneet luoviksi, mutta moni ei koe olevansa luova, ja tämä harhaluulo usein häviää taidepajoissa. Elän unelmaani. Saan tehdä sitä missä olen parhaimmillani; Kädet maalissa. Teokseni ovat pääsääntöisesti abstraktia. Minua kiehtoo valtavasti abstraktin taiteen tuomat haasteet. Abstrakti taide on vaikea laji, mutta sen ydinsanoma on selvä; kuuntele rohkeasti sydäntäsi. Haluan tehdä taidetta niin kuin lapsi, pelkäämättä ja alati uteliaana. En juurikaan suunnittele seuraavaa teostani, ainoastaan suunnittelen sen, milloin aloitan. Olen ollut myös uurnataiteilijana yhteisessä yrityksessämme. Valmistimme tuhkauurnia puusta, jotka sitten taiteilin hautaustoimistoihin myyntiin. Teen myös lasimaalauksia ja koruja aidoista kukkasista. Rakastan kaikkea luovaa, ja ennen kaikkea taidetta, joka puhuttelee!

I am a 53-year-old visual artist and art therapy instructor from Kanta-Häme, Finland. Art has been a part of my life for as long as can remember – first through music, and later through visual arts. My professional career was in healthcare, but today I have joy of working with art in my own company, Iloinen Sivellin (“The Joyful Brush”). I create art, for exhibitions and sales, and I also run workshops for people of all ages, where everyone is welcome to explore creativity with a low threshold. I believe art belongs to everyone. We are all born creative, yet many people don’t see themselves that way- this misconception often disappears during my workshops. I am living my dream. I get to do what I do best; with paint on my hands! My works are mainly abstract. I am deeply fascinated by the challenges that abstract art brings. Abstract art can be difficult, but its core message is clear; listen bravely to your heart. I want to create art like a child would – fearlessly and with endless curiosity. I hardly ever plan my next piece; the only thing I plan is when to begin. I have also worked as an urn artist in our joint company, where we crafted wooden cremations urns that I then decorated for sale to funeral homes. In addition, I create glass paintings and jewelry made with real flowers. I love everything creative, and above all, art that speaks to the soul!

Tuija Linkola

I am Tuija Linkola, a self-taught visual artist born in Helsinki and now living and working in Porvoo. I primarily paint with acrylics on canvas. Nature is a significant source of inspiration for me. I have had several solo and group exhibitions across Finland.

My art is particularly appreciated for its delicate color palette, nature-inspired themes, and strong emotional expression. My paintings often depict nature, such as the sea, forests, flowers, and animals.

My works embody subtle beauty and tranquility, often conveying a meditative atmosphere with soft and harmonious colors. The paintings are often seen as touching, as they frequently evoke a strong sense of peace, longing, or contemplation of life’s fleeting moments.

The works of Alagoas artist Beth Melro have a strong personality and very striking features. Since childhood, the artist was involved in art. It was with his grandmother, who also painted, and with his mother's encouragement, that the brushes began to move in his hands, and from then on everything began to take shape.

As an adult, architecture caught her attention, but her training also helped her discover the path she wanted to follow. The first exhibition was in 2008, and it hasn't stopped since. He currently has his works spread across Alagoas and Brazil.

Na fase adulta, a arquitetura lhe chamou a atenção, mas a formação também contribuiu para que ela descobrisse o caminho que queria trilhar. A primeira exposição foi em 2008,E não parou mais. Claudio Lobato

Born in Rio de Janeiro from 1955, studied at the Parque Lage Visual Arts School. Visual artist, set designer, graphic designer, illustrator, screenwriter and writer, he participated in the artistic/ poetic collective Nuvem Cigana (Gipsy Cloud) as an illustrator, cover artist and editor of the magazine Almanaque Biotônico Vitalidade. He performed in the Artimanhas (Artricks), the collective's happening presentations in the 1970s. He participated in Circo Voador (Flying Circus), a multicultural space in the 1980s as a set designer, poster artist and editor of the newspaper/ program Expresso Voador (Flying Express). Lobato created and scripted several programs for TV Globo from the 1990s onwards. He has exhibited his authorial works in institutions such as the Museum of Image and Sound, Museum of the Republic and Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim. In 2016, he directed the documentary "The Incredible Artricks of the Gypsy Cloud", a record of the performance of the Gypsy Cloud collective.

The number 7 is a defining mark in many cultures. The seven days of the week, the seven deadly sins, the seven wonders of the world and the seven lives of the cat (how it’s used in Brazil). “TO PAINT THE 7” is a popular Brazilian expression that means to have fun to the extreme, disrespecting the established norm: transgressing.

THE WORD enters the space of the canvas and its shape, texture and color begin to invoke other sensations, as it happens in the relationship between poetry and music, where the lyrics inserted in the song are modulated to the rhythm and melody. Forms that explore a poetic universe that goes beyond what is written.

Nume is the Latin word that refers to divine power, the generalization of the deities. Probably the origin of the words name and number (to Portuguese nome and número). Numbers and words are like tools that enable countless combinations, creating ways of understanding the world.

Denilce Meirelles is an academically influenced artist with a distinguished career in Brazil and abroad. She has exhibited at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, as well as in Barcelona, Portugal, and Finland. In Brazil, she has participated in numerous exhibitions, including two editions of the G20. Her Butterfly collection, composed of mosaics, reflects her journey of resilience, marked by fibromyalgia and overcoming two cancers. In her works, pain is transformed into wings, symbolizing freedom and rebirth. Denilce’s art transcends suffering, conveying strength and inspiration, solidifying her prominence in the international art scene.

Arquiteta formada pela FAU/UFRJ, atuou na área de projetos de arquitetura e em paralelo se dedicou ao desenho, desenvolvendo e aprimorando a técnica e meios de expressão em cursos livres com o artista e professor Amador Perez, com os aquarelistas Cesc Farré e Javier Zorrilla, e na EAV entre 2010 a 2015 com Orlando Mollica, Gianguido Bonfantti e Bernardo Magina. Na sua obra, a expressão artística se iniciou pelo desenho, e posteriormente na técnica de pastel oleoso sobre papel, óleo sobre tela e aquarela, na busca das formas pela cor. Maria Lúcia Montemór

Maria Lúcia Montemór (20/12/1960 – Potirendaba, SP, Brasil), residente em São José do Rio Preto (SP). Em 2017, comecei a transmitir um pouco de minha visão de arte, conforme aprimorava expressões abstratas contemporânea com tons e texturas que transitam entre o colorido do mundo e o lado escuro da realidade histórica. Interesso-me especialmente pelas questões políticas socioambientais e a possibilidade da parceria entre filosofia e arte. Tenho tentado espalhar cores e interrogações, buscando trazer a guisa a sustentabilidade, reflexões sobre direitos humanos, trabalho, meio ambiente e as relações humanas, especialmente questões de gênero, minorias e povos originários, mas também o simples brincar de colorir o mundo.

Maria Lúcia Montemór (12/20/1960 – Potirendaba, SP, Brazil), resident in São José do Rio Preto (SP). In 2017, I began to transmit a little of my vision of art, as I improved contemporary abstract expressions with tones and textures that transition between the colorful world and the dark side of historical reality. I am especially interested in socio-environmental political issues and the possibility of a partnership between philosophy and art. I have tried to spread colors and questions, seeking to bring sustainability, reflections on human rights, work, the environment and human relations, especially issues of gender, minorities and indigenous peoples, but also the simple game of coloring the world.

Thiago Prado is a multi-artist, graduated in social communication, with a postgraduate degree in Cinema. Born in 1984 in Rio de Janeiro, where he works in his studio in Flamengo Beach.
