CASA Art School (Centro de Assistencia Social e Artistica) was founded in August 2005 by Helena and Edson Cardoso. Art School is ment for underprivileged children living in the favela of Cidade de Deus - City of God, in Rio de Janeiro.

Pink October Pink October is the month celebrated worldwide for collecting resources, particularly for breast cancer research and prevention. In Finland, the Cancer Foundation’s objective is to promote scientific research into cancer and cancer prevention, as well as to disseminate information about the risk of cancer, designed for healthy living. The aim is also to ensure adequate support for cancer sufferers and their loved ones. AVA Galleria wants to participate in the campaign by dressing the art of pink.

Lokakuussa vietetään maailmanlaajuisesti vaaleanpunaista kuukautta keräten varoja etenkin rintasyövän tutkimukseen ja ehkäisyyn. Suomessa Syöpäsäätiön tavoitteena on edistää syöpätautien tieteellistä tutkimusta ja syövän ehkäisyä sekä levittää tietoa syöpäriskiä vähentävistä, terveellisistä elämäntavoista. Tavoitteena on myös taata riittävästi tukipalveluita syöpään sairastuneille ja heidän läheisilleen. AVA Galleria haluaa osallistua kampanjaan pukemalla taiteen vaaleanpunaiseksi.

Aino-Kaarina Pajari ”Aino-Kaarina Pajari was for a long time well known for her colourfull, painting-like, large size and more or less abstract carborundum works. In 2008 Pajari started to combine carborundum with woodcuts and then concentrated merely in woodcut. Her themes are dealing with plants, vegetables and landscapes, espesially seashore, fjeld and field sceneries. She collects the themes of her works by taking photographa of things she sees in her trips, on roadsides or in her own garden. She prints her bright coloured woodcuts usually by etching press on thick etching paper, which makes the works three dimensional.”

”Aino-Kaarina Pajari oli pitkään tunnettu värikylläisistä, maalauksellisista, suurikokoisista ja enemmän tai vähemmän abstrakteista carborundum-teoksistaan. Vuonna 2008 Pajari alkoi yhdistää karborundumia puupiirroksiin ja sittemmin keskittyi vain puupiirrokseen. Hänen teemansa käsittelevät kasveja, vihanneksia ja maisemia, varsinkin merenrantoja, peltoja ja peltomaisemia. Hän kerää aiheita teoksiinsa ottamalla kuvia asioista, joita hän näkee matkoillaan, teiden varsilla tai omassa puutarhassaan. Hän vedostaa moniväriset puupiirroksensa etsausprässillä käyttämällä yleensä paksua syväpainopaperia, mikä tekee teoksista kolmiulotteisia.” 30

Anita Chan I have more than 15 years‘ experience in Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Ink painting and I started to have works exhibited in some ten years ago. I am now working as a Chinese Calligraphy and Chinese Ink painting tutor. As a worshipper of nature, I feel touched by comfort and calm while painting or practising Chinese Calligraphy .

Anna-Maija Rissanen on Belgian-suomalainen taidemaalari, jonka inspiraation lähteinä toimii luonto ja maisema. Hänen teoksensa ovat pääosin herkkiä, runollisia ja rauhoittavia mielenmaisemia, joissa länsimainen ja itämainen taide kohtaavat. Esittävän ja abstraktin taiteen rajamaastossa hän etsii herkkyyden ja voiman tasapainoja. Anna-Maija Rissasen työskentelee kerroksittain vesipohjaisilla maaleilla kuten vesiväreillä, akryyleillä, musteella ja liiduilla, sekä käyttää teosten pohjina grafiikan vedoksia ja kollaasia. Hänen teostensa koko ja värimaailma vaihtelevat teemoittain. Anna-Maija Rissanen on syntynyt vuonna 1983 Järvenpäässä. Hän asui 14 vuotta Brysselissä ja valmistui vuonna 2009 kuvataiteiden maisteriksi ja taideopettajaksi Brysselin kuninkaallisesta taideakatemiasta. Vuonna 2009 hän voitti Godecharle taidekilpailun ensimmäisen sijan ja stipendin, jonka turvin hän opiskeli vuonna 2012-2013 perinteistä kiinalaista maalaustaidetta Hangzhoun Kiinan Taideakatemiassa. Vuosien 2009 ja 2019 välillä Anna-Maija Rissasella on ollut Suomessa ja ulkomailla 19 omaa näyttelyä, sekä osallistunut yli 40 ryhmä- ja yhteisnäyttelyyn, johon sisältyy myös taidemessuja ja taidekilpailuja niin Suomessa kuin ulkomailla. Anna-Maija Rissanen is a Belgian-Finnish painter who finds her inspiration in nature. She focuses mainly on painting poetic inner meditative landscapes of water and rock, between western and eastern representation, between abstract and figurative. In her works she concentrates on searching a balance between fragility and power through mixed perspectives and layers. She uses mainly mixed media that includes among others watercolour, acrylics, ink, print and collage. She poses thin layers of colours and creates different kinds of textures to give depth to the works. Her works vary in sizes and in colours. She was born 1983, in Järvenpää, Finland. She lived from 1995 to 2009 in Brussels, Belgium. She graduated in 2009 with an MA in Fine Arts from the Royal Fine-Arts Academy of Brussels and also qualified as an art teacher. In 2009 she won the first prize of Godecharle of 5,000 € awarded by the Godecharle foundation that gave her the opportunity to continue her studies in China. During 2012-2013 she studied techniques of traditional Chinese painting at the China Art Academy in Hangzhou. Between 2009 and 2019 she has had 19 solo exhibitions and taken part in more than 40 group shows that include also art fairs and competitions both international and Finnish.

Anu Eskelin A German sculptor, a friend of mine, describes my paintings: Through the movement with which Eskelin applies paint to the canvas she consciously lets herself be led into the depth of oblivion, into the realm of the subconscious. Memories emerge, want to surface along with her. These are traces of landscapes, figures and architectural fragments, which are revealed to us in the interaction of shapes forming and dissolving. It is a to and fro, a hesitant revealing and concealing of the emerging images. “Through the application of individual coats of paint the themes that seeks visualization gradually reveals itself,” explains the artist. The images come to her. During the painting process she effectively moves between the two worlds. She ventures on the experience of the abyss. Our eyes glide as if in dance across Anu Eskelin’s paintings, repeatedly pausing, finding rest. At a place that seems to be both paradisiacal and past, lost. We might sense what is portrayed but we cannot grasp it. As if we were in a dream-like Arcadia, the place associated with man’s longings. But there are breaks. It is a reflected longing we are dealing with. Elegiac subjects contrast with the often vibrant colors on the canvas. The contemplative encounters the dynamic, the unconscious meets the conscious. When we look at the paintings we move between what are seemingly opposites.

Ben Wong, Yun Nam Ben Wong is a very productive painter who is expressing his feeling and thoughts about the things that touches his mind. He is interested in watercolor painting, pastel artwork, as well as Chinese ink painting and Chinese calligraphy. His watercolor works includes landscapes of the country side, the cityscapes in Hong Kong and in other countries. He enjoys painting still life, flowers, portraits and other themes. His Chinese ink paintings includes the landscapes in China and the still life in his daily life. His Chinese calligraphy works are created based on poems which he wrote as well as the inspiration of poems from ancient poets.

BERE A 3x4 photography is needed in official documents such as the Identity Card. It is as if this photo represents everything that this individual is. It attests and materializes the birth of the human being for humanity. I'm a graduated architect and also a self-taught visual artist. I started painting as if by chance and along the years I started to create characters always in a rigid pose, as if they were posing for a 3x4 photograph. The characters are like us: they have a name and personal characteristics that are expressed through color, traits and details inserted in each canvas. It is as if the painted image was the profile photograph of each character, creating a connection with the world today, where people get to know each other through the network and only reveal what is convenient. Illusory masks of an unreal life are created, where the worlds are mixed and self-deceived. My paintings are like my children. They were born through me and are part of my history and my passage through this world. So after being conceived they will be presented to society and will be judged. I like the reaction of people when they see my canvas; each person identifies more with a particular canvas, just as in personal relationships, we create an empathy with certain people and sometimes we also do not like them, for many and sometimes unexplainable reasons. The spectator feels the power of the strong features and delicacy exposed, creating immediately a relationship between the being and the canvas. In this way, the figures portray a mixture of feelings and masks used in our human nature, they portray life and personal relationships.

É como se esta foto representasse tudo o que este indivíduo é; ela atesta e materializa o nascimento do ser humano para a humanidade. Sou arquiteto por formação e Artista visual autodidata por inclinação. Comecei na pintura como que por acaso, e ao longo do percurso comecei a criar personagens sempre numa pose rígida, como se estivessem posando para uma fotografia 3x4. Os personagens são como nós: eles possuem nomes e características de personalidade que são expressas através dos traços, cores e detalhes inseridos em cada obra. É como se a imagem pintada fosse a fotografia do perfil de cada personagem, criando uma ligação com o mundo de hoje; onde as pessoas se conhecem através da rede e só deixam transparecer o que lhe é conveniente. São criadas máscaras ilusórias de uma vida não real, onde os mundos se misturam e se auto iludem. Minhas pinturas são como meus filhos: eles nasceram através de mim e fazem parte da minha história e da minha passagem por este mundo. Assim, depois de criados, serão apresentados a sociedade e julgados. Gosto da reação das pessoas ao se depararem com minha obra; cada pessoa se identifica mais com determinada obra. Assim como nas relações pessoais, criamos uma empatia com determinadas pessoas e às vezes também não gostamos, por motivos diversos e por hora inexplicáveis. O espectador sente o poder dos fortes traços e delicadeza exposta, criando imediatamente uma relação entre o ser e a obra. Desta forma, as figuras retratam uma mistura de sentimentos e máscaras usadas em nossa natureza humana. Retratam a vida e as relações pessoais.

Chu Pui Fung (Kitty Chu) Kitty’s childhood was influenced by her father, Chu Cheong who cultivated her interest in art. Kitty is distinguished in painting butterflies. The dancing butterflies under her brush look vivid & real. Kitty is now Chairman of the Eternity Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Association, Director of Yi Yuan Painting & Calligraphy Association, Executive Members of Hong Kong Ink Association. Member of Xiang Gang Mei Xie (Hong Kong Artists Association). Kitty’s works have been shown in many exhibitions in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

Clara Pang Clara Pang, born in China but raised in Hong Kong, is passionate about nature, sports and the arts. She is an prominent member of the Hong Kong Watercolour Society, being an administrator of the 花花少女, Flowers Group, a very active body with numerous member artists around the world. She participates in many of the Group's outdoor painting activities. Clara Pang is a watercolour painter who plays with colours, which she often turns into flowers, landscapes and happenings. She likes to express freedom, spontaneity and emotions through her paintings. She hopes that her art will convey a positive message and bring happiness and promise to people.

Claudiah Arantes - Rio de Janeiro - born 1956 Graduated in Architecture from Santa Ursula University in 1980 and post-graduated in Urbanism from University of Estate of Rio de Janeiro in 1982. She entered the art world quite early through drawings and different types of materials, always having the use of color as the foundation of her work. Going to several known artists studios, has improved her techiniques which contribuited in the search of new journeys. She is currently attending group and individual exhibitions, exploring the figurative combined with abstract, making use of collages with recycle materials and textures.

Claudiah Arantes - Rio de Janeiro, RJ - 1956 Arquiteta graduada pela Universidade Santa Úrsula (1980), pós-graduada em Urbanismo (UERJ, 1982). Sua incursão nas artes deu-se bem cedo através do desenho e das experimentações com materiais diversos, tendo a cor sempre como alicerce de suas obras. Tendo frequentado vários ateliers de artistas renomados, aprimorou técnicas que contribuíram na sua busca por novos caminhos. Participa de exposições coletivas e individuais, atualmente, explora o figurativo aliado ao abstrato, fazendo uso de colagens com materiais por vezes reciclados e de texturas.

Cristiane Maschietto The work of the artist aims to draw attention to the preservation of the environment. Developing and putting into practice ideas for the development of society, in a way that does not harm nature, through sustainability, without compromising future generations.

O trabalho da artista tem o intuito de chamar atenção para a preservação do meio ambiente. Elaborando e colocando em prática ideias para o desenvolvimento da sociedade, de forma que não prejudique a natureza, através da sustentabilidade, sem comprometer as gerações futuras.

Cuscua Artista plástica Cris Costa nasceu na cidade de São Paulo e desde criança demonstrava interesse pela arte. Grande parte de sua vida adulta foi vivida na Itália. Em Roma residiu ao lado do Museu de Arte Moderna e pôde enriquecer ainda mais sua bagagem cultural, com as influências artísticas do país. Autodidata e artista de personalidade inspiradora, Cris identifica-se artisticamente como Cuscua. A artista pinta “de alma” e sua arte questiona os padrões e injustiças. Principalmente, as injustiças às mulheres. Não se considera feminista, apenas defensora da justiça ao ser humano, em especial às mulheres. Quanto aos padrões, suas obras não seguem repetições. Cada tela é uma arte única, genuína e desprogramada, que exibe ritmo e gestualismo, convidando o observador a olhar para dentro de si mesmo. Assim, questiona e rompe os padrões. Busca mexer mentalmente e emocionalmente com as pessoas, levando sua energia da alma. Sua arte busca transmitir a mensagem que as pessoas devam ser elas mesmas, assumindo o próprio eu e alcançando a liberdade. Seu estilo artístico é o expressionismo abstrato, tendo como base o action painting e dripping. Utiliza técnica mista com tinta acrílica e grafite. Suas primeiras telas surgiram em 2005, mas escondia suas obras, até serem descobertas pelo seu então companheiro, em 2014. Daí em diante, volta a pintar com mais dedicação. Cuscua encontra em suas telas o espaço ideal para despir sua alma e transbordar seus mais profundos sentimentos. Cuscua, além da paixão pela arte, dedica a educação e criação de seus três filhos. Sua vida é um conjunto de emoções, onde a artista se entrega de alma na arte, em uma eterna montanha russa de emoções artísticas e familiares. Sempre buscando questionamentos e mudanças. Cuscua alimenta sua própria existência, como assinatura de seu alter ego espiritual. A artista realizou sua primeira exposição individual, em São Paulo, no ano de 2016. Desde então participou de mais nove exposições, sendo cinco no Brasil e quatro no exterior (USA e Europa). Além das exposições tem participação em livro publicado e doações de obras para leilões beneficentes. Diego Mendonça Diego Mendonça, nasceu no ano de 1982, em São João del Rei/MG. Advogado que largou a profissão para dedicar-se às artes, sua grande paixão, atualmente é mestrando em Artes pela Universidade Federal de São João del Rei. Foi aluno do grande pintor Quaglia e atualmente é discípulo de Yara Tupynambá. O artista já foi premiado em diversos salões de arte. Entre as premiações recebeu Ouro na Bienal Européia Latino Americana de Arte Contemporânea, no Centro Cultural dos Correios – Rio de Janeiro, que foi promovida pela AVA Galerie – da Finlândia. Também Ouro no 42º Salon Premier of International Association of Artists, realizado em Portugal, em junho deste ano; Medalha de Bronze no Triatlon das Artes do Principado de Liechtenstein, Bronze no voto popular no Salão de Arte Contemporânea realizado no Carrousel Du Louvre Museum em outubro de 2015, entre outros com medalhas de ouro, prata, bronze e Menção Especial do Júri. Com várias exposições individuais e coletivas, já expôs seus trabalhos na sede da ONU (Organização das Nações Unidas) e no Consulado do Brasil em New York e também em Hight Point (EUA). Foi selecionado e participou da VII Bienal de Pequenos Formatos em Moita (Portugal). Teve seus trabalhos expostos no Salon International d’Art Contemporain no Carrousel Du Louvre em Paris (França) e na Galerie Koko em Viena (Áustria), em Figueira da Foz e Cidade do Porto (Portugal), Miami (EUA), Vaduz (Principado de Liechtenstein), Florença (Itália), Osaka (Japão), Roma (Itália), além de várias capitais brasileiras como Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Belém e Brasília. Entre os trabalhos do artista, recentemente fez ilustrações e capas de livros para editoras importantes, como as capas dos livros “Mulheres de Aço e de Flores” e também “Mulheres cheias de graça” do Pe Fábio de Melo. Seus quadros já foram catalogados e fazem parte de coleções de renome e de celebridades. O artista traz em seu currículo mais de 50 exposições (individuais e coletivas), além de salões de arte. Eliana Carvalho The plastic artist Eliana Carvalho with her aesthetic, ecological and social commitment creates a unique artistic language. Self-taught, she gets carried away by her anxieties, seeking inspiration in bucolic lyricism, in the dialogues of the birds and in personal dreams. In her works the essence of nature and mutation merge into a combination of curves, rhythms and forms giving life to a dead trunk, to an abandoned window or door. With her tool in hand turns the log into art giving him back his life. Animals and birds are a recurring theme in the work of the artist who also uses her works as a form of alertness and protest.

Emily Law Siu Ting Emily Law Siu Ting, born in China, living in Hong Kong, graduated from the Engineering Faculty of City University of Hong Kong and later completed the Advanced Diploma in Fine Art from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She like different medias and forms of art, oil painting, acrylic, water colour, dry media, sculpture, Chinese ink painting and so on. In recent years, she concentrate on the Chinese paintings. She has trained both in western and Chinese art and made the best use of both skill sets to depict with brush stroke and paint. Emily Law has planned & joined a number of group exhibitions and her solo exhibitions from 2010. In 2018, she established her art studio at Fotan, HK. She is one of the founding members and the secretary of the charity art group "Serendipity" form in 2015. Emily’s artworks have been published in newspapers and found in a number of personal collection.

Hanne Rokkanen Olen espoolainen luontoaktivisti ja selkäinvalidi ja tehnyt taidetta täyspäiväisesti vuodesta 1995. Maalaamisen lisäksi teen grafiikkaa jota myös jatkuvasti opetan. Säiden salliessa työni alkavat keskellä luontoa mutta lopullinen ulkoasu syntyy työhuoneessani. Maalaukseni syntyvät hitaasti, työstän useita töitä yhtä aikaa. Käytän töissäni akryyliä, akryylitussia ja öljyväriä. Työni kertovat ajatuksista ja tunteista, joita syntyy luontokokemuksista. I'm a nature activist from Espoo and an invalid due to my back. I have been an full time artist since 1995. As well as painting I make graphic arts and also teach it constantly. If the weather permits my works starts in the nature but the final results are made in my atelier. My paintings are made with time, I paint several artwork at the same time. I use acrylicpaint, acryl ink and oilcolors. My artworks express my thoughs and feelings which are composed from my nature expirience.

Kokemukset säilyvät mielessäni ja luonnoskirjassa muistoina, joihin palaan työhuoneella. Ne muodostuvat mieleeni väreinä, muotoina, viivoina, rytminä ja liikkeenä. Taiteilijana pyrin saavuttamaan kokemuksien ainutlaatuisuuden mahdollisimman rehellisellä kuvaamisella. Maalaus ei koostu ainoastaan kauniista ja harmonisista elementeistä, vaan niitä rikkoo jännite, hetkessä oleva särö.

My paintings are as a journal; pictures from subjective experiences. I paint places and moments which have been touched me very special way. Abstract and colourful presentation and intuitive working method leads me close to my unique experience. I collect experiences in my mind and on sketchbook as memories. At the studio I return to those and cultivate them to colors, forms, lines, rhythms and moves. As an artist I try to reach unique experiences with the most honest way. That means not to represent only aesthetic or harmonic element but a tension which might be as a crack in the moment.

Textile Artist Helena Vaari designs and sews works of textile art for both private residence and public premises. Textiles for Churches are her specialities. Vaari takes part on group exhibitions and has ones of her own. The artist´s techniques are application, free machine embroidery and textile collage. Vaari calls it painting by sewing machine. The yarns are her colours and the needle is her brush. The tiny yarns have special power. The yarn is threedimensional, it has the twist and the beautiful shine. When Vaari sews hundreds of tiny twisted yarns together, the power and the threedimensional effect of the yarns will strengthen. The picture is very lively, when the light reflects from the yarns and gives power to the whole works. Helena Vaari is very interested in folds of the clothes, shadows and lights. She wants to represent fabric by fabric; to sew pictures where human is wearing shirts and coats and to see the three-dimensional movement of the fabrics by painting sewing machine.

Ilona Rytkönen www.ilonas.fi Ilona Rytkönen (b.1962, lives and works in Jämsänkoski) Even if my painting is landscape-oriented, there is a human being involved in it: the person is there as a spectator, experiencer, encounter, thinker or just observer. My expression as an artist is often mysterious or symbolic. You can see the inner feelings or the impression of a certain moment. This is more important to me than documentary or portrait painting. In my color palette, I have pursued a minor color scale. Occasionally, the surprising colors that appear in the painting process will amaze and confuse myself. Whether they can remain in the final work or hide or delete them, are the most interesting moments in my painting process. “It feels like a little melancholy and yet the ability to sense beauty is mixed in delicate scratching strokes: like a crack in the feeling that mixes for a moment. What the picture represents is realism: the street after the rain, but the way the picture looks like it is sentimentalism. The subject, philosophy and technique of making art make Rytkönen a special artist. Subjects are often used to something: a person, a face or a landscape. Isabella Cesar A artista plástica Isabella Cesar, explora os acidentes do tempo para extrair o belo. Suas referências vêm do inacabado, vêm da vida, do tempo. As pesquisas da artista estão focadas na “pintura a calce“ encontrada nas paredes toscanas, no stucco veneziano, na rusticidade das paredes antigas. Outras referências vêm da pintura caiada, que viu por onde passou e conviveu. Presente na rusticidade da ruínas, dos monumentos, vêm do inverno, da neve. A inspiração vem dos países nórdicos, da elegância e simplicidade dessa atmosfera. Vêm do estilo Hygge de ser e de viver.

Visual artist Isabella Cesar, explores the accidents of time to extract the beautiful. Her references come from the unfinished, from life and the passage of time. The artist's researches are focused on "painting chalk" found in Tuscan villa walls, Venetian stucco, and the general rusticity of old walls. Other references come from whitewashed paint, from places she passed by and lived. Present in the rusticity of ruins and monuments, it comes from winter and snow. Her inspiration comes from the Nordic countries, with its atmosphere of elegance and simplicity. They come from the “Hygge” way of being and living.

I am a painter in Central Finland, Jyväskylä. My technique is oil painting. I paint the surrounding landscapes and nature in all into my paintings. The nature is for me a mystic and beautiful place of soul and presence. The landscape is my home. The world in my paintings is beautiful but something threatening is about to happen. The sky is getting darker, clouds are gathering and shadows are moving. Viewers/ people are seeking shelter or path through the landscape in their disappearing paradise.

John Wong Born in Hong Kong, I have been studied under great Chinese ink art masters, namely Ho Choi On, Hung Hoi, Wong Ling Yu, and contemporary ink painting masters, Chui Tsz Hong, Wong Hao Kuai and Fung Wing Kei to learn traditional and modern ink art. I have received a diploma in Chinese landscape painting after attending the University of Hong Kong SPACE. Devoting to ink art for over 30 years, I would love to sketch with ink and rice paper. Through abstract and semi-abstract techniques, those shining moments and slice of lives are likely to be captured. I believe painting is a form of inner world and a reflection of subconsciousness. Lingering charm, emotion and unique style are all indispensable for a piece of art. I have participated in various exhibitions and my works were collected by the Shek King Yi Museum and a personal collector. 80

Joseph Figorelle Passages Beyond presenting us a sculptural set of intense density and greatness, the artist Joseph Figorelle leads us to consider that in such circunstances between the organic material and the artistic project the human existence is also registered, which is related to the time finity. Kaisa Koljonen I'm a 27 year old visual artist from Jyväskylä, central Finland. My emphasis is on printmaking and painting. Visually my works mix surreal, abstract and symbolic elements, creating imagery that invokes the human subconscious with its archetypal elements. I use a lot of imagery of human anatomy in my art, and mix that with other visual elements creating an impression of a distorted surreal anatomy book. The use of symmetry appears naturally in my art - I feel that it reflects the fractal structures of nature. In printmaking my works are built of groups of small organic lines, which finally form the artwork. The motivation for my art is to experience what it is to be human, and to let the viewers reflect themselves from my art. Currently my work is strongly influenced by the theme that a human is at the same time a physical and a psychological creature, and those two forms of excistence are bound together. In my art I strive towards the higher purpose of being human.

Graduated in Mathematic and with a Course of Photography and Cinema at the University of Coimbra (PT), Master´s degree in English Language by the University of Cambridge (UK) and Cinema Critic, she belonged to the newspaper "IMPROP" of Science Faculty of University of Lisbon, among others. Published a book of Photography entitled "Cascais by Kamy´s Lens" where we can see a litle of her work as a photographer and Artist that is part of Artistic Expressionism movement. Kamy lives in Cascais since 1996.

A FOTÓGRAFA Cláudia Marina Figueiredo Martins (KAMY MARTINS) nasceu na cidade do Lobito, à beira-mar, do distrito de Benguela, na Província Portuguesa Ultramarina, Angola, em 8 de Fevereiro de 1968. Graduada em Matemática com formação em Fotografia e Cinema na Universidade de Coimbra (PT), Mestre em Língua Inglesa pela Universidade de Cambridge (UK) e Crítica de Cinema, escreveu para o Jornal "IMPROP" da Associação dos Estudantes da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, entre outros. Publicou em 2016 o livro de Fotografia intitulado "Cascais pela Lente da Kamy" onde apresenta um pouco do seu trabalho como fotógrafa e artista. Ela desenvolve a sua arte através do seu "olhar fotográfico". Kamy vive em Cascais, desde 1996.

Vuosien 2007-2011 täysiaikainen opiskelu Repin-instituutin kuvataidekoulutuksessa Kotkassa Pietarin Taideakatemian professoroiden ja pedagogien ohjauksessa toi valmiuden kehittää omaa taidetta yhdistämällä hankittu vahva klassinen taito ja mielikuvitus laatukuvanaivismiksi. Kristinan mukaan laatukuvanaivismi on taidesuuntaus, jossa naivismi ja realistinen maalaustaide lyövät reilusti keskenään kättä ammentaen toisensa parhaita puolia. Kristina on pitänyt näyttelyitä Suomessa sekä ulkomailla vuodesta 1991. Heltidsstudierna år 2007-2011 vid Repin-institutets bildkonstskola i Kotka, under ledning av St. Peterburgs bildkonstakademis professorer och pedagoger, gav färdigheten att förnya den egna konsten. Med hjälp av det goda kunnandet i realistiskt måleri samt sin fantasi skapades den naivistiska genremålningen. Enligt Kristina är naivistisk genremålning en konstinriktning som kombinerar den klassiska realismens teknik och naivismens humor. Kristina har ställt ut sina målningar i Finland samt utomlands sedan år 1991. Kristina has studied fine arts at the Repin Institute in Kotka, full-time between 2007-2011. The studies under the guidance of professors and teachers of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts gave her the tools to renew her own practice. By combining strong classical skills with her imagination, genre painting of naive art was created. According to Kristina naive genre painting is an art genre which combines the technique of classic realism with the humor of naive art. Maj-Lis Tanner maj-lis@tanner.fi I am a Finnish visual artist living in Espoo near Helsinki. My last works of art have been painted with expressionist style on plexiglass because in this way I can reach the most of the colors I love. This method of painting and acrylics give me a sense of photographing, too. In my paintings I wage a battle on behalf of nature. My love of nature can be seen in colors that occur in nature. The four seasons of Finland seem to guide my color spectrum so much that sometimes resistance is futile. During the last years my paintings have described memories of my wanderings high in the North of Finland. Still I can see reindeers walking slowly on hills, eating lichen and teasing wanderers they meet. Some memories remind me of heavy and menacing morning mist. With acrylics I can also be playful and mix reality with imagination.

Minha natureza Nas minhas pinturas, travo uma batalha em nome da natureza. Meu amor pela natureza pode ser visto nas cores que ocorrem na natureza. As quatro estações da Finlândia parecem guiar tanto meu espectro de cores que às vezes a resistência é fútil. A mais bela variedade de cores está relacionada às cores outonais da Lapônia, na Finlândia, quando o solo brilha com marrons e vermelhos, e todos os tipos de sombras escuras, no meio das quais se destacam a laranja e a turquesa. Eu sou uma artista finlandesa que vive em Espoo, perto da Helsínquia, a capital da Finlândia. Durante os últimos anos, minhas pinturas descreveram a Lapônia e as lembranças de minhas peregrinações por lá, no norte da Finlândia. Ainda consigo ver renas andando devagar nas colinas, comendo líquens e provocando andarilhos que encontram. Às vezes, eles podem ficar bastante enfurecidos e defender seu território. Às vezes eles ignoram os errantes, inclusive eu. Eles vão me deixar fazer esboços para minhas pinturas futuras. Durante as noites eu posso ouvi-los andando na minha tenda, me aceitando, me deixando sozinha. Minhas últimas obras de arte foram pintadas com acrílico em plexiglass. O resultado desse método de pintura me dá uma sensação de fotografia.

Marcio Goldzweig symbolizes in his work an aggregate of cultures. A Brazilian of Jewish, Palestinian, American, and Eastern European descent, he is drawn to ways that bring us back to the East. Especially through the use of ancient calligraphy techniques that evoke, at first glance, the Hebrew, Islamic, and Japanese styles that link these cultures to the contemporary world, making his own writing tools - the Oriental Qalams or the bamboo pens that have revealed to the world the writing. Qalam has been described as the symbol of wisdom and with it, the artist transforms elements of calligraphy into abstract art - or as the artist defines, "Calligraphic Abstractions." Taking some kind of asceticism from his Jewish heritage, Islamic references, with strong connections to Shodō's Japanese art and a life in Brazil, Goldzweig creates images that transcend cultural ideologies, adding meticulous woodcut work to his creations. 94

Marcus Amaral In the wake of my youth I realized a need to produce something that could express my emotions and feelings. Life was demanding answers to the feelings it caused on me. My involvement with art happened in a pragmatic way when in 1982 I started the course of Fine Arts at the University. Even without completing the course, it gave me the exact dimension of what it meant to embrace an artistic career. The two years I spent in College were very important, but my work was done outside school, experimenting and developing non academic techniques. Over the years this process has gone through several phases. Today I could say that my work consists in extracting of materials and objects their hidden essence. I have the need to expose the reverse, I'm always looking for the unfinished perfection. This proposal is a constant challenge, bringing close to me the possibility of error and frustration, demanding always a fresh start. My work is like mining, always trying to find the unlikely beauty, something that will allow me to call it Art. These findings, which were the fruit of work and debugging, produced from mashed matter, kneaded as bread and brewed by intimate feelings are like food to me. Show my work is like exposing myself and through the eyes and interpretation of others seek a better understanding of the universe of creation.

No despertar de minha juventude percebi uma grande necessidade de produzir algo que pudesse externar as minhas emoções e sentimentos. Era a vida me cobrando respostas das sensações que ela própria me causava. Meu envolvimento com a arte aconteceu de uma forma pragmática quando em 1982 iniciei o curso de Belas Artes na UFMG. Mesmo sem concluir o curso, esse fato me deu a dimensão exata do que significava buscar uma carreira artística. Os dois anos que permaneci na escola foram muito importantes, mas o meu trabalho foi desenvolvido fora da escola, fazendo experimentos e desenvolvendo técnicas não acadêmicas. Ao longo desses anos esse processo já passou por várias fases. Hoje posso dizer que o meu trabalho consiste em extrair de materiais e objetos uma essência oculta. Tenho a necessidade de expor o avesso, estou sempre à procura do inacabado perfeito. Essa proposta é um desafio constante, trazendo para perto de mim a possibilidade do erro e da frustração, exigindo sempre um recomeço. Esse trabalho é um garimpo, sempre acreditando na possibilidade de encontrar o improvável sutilmente belo, algo que me classifique como artista, me permitindo chamar de arte as minhas descobertas. Essas descobertas trabalhadas e depuradas são para mim alimento, produzida de matéria amassada e esmurrada como se faz o pão. Fermentada por sentimentos íntimos às vezes desconhecidos e organizada por uma razão vacilante. Mostrar o meu trabalho é de certa forma me expor, busco através do olhar e interpretação do outro melhor entendimento desse universo da criação.

I am a Finnish artist. I get strength of Finland´s rich and varied nature: Lakes, forests, fells, rivers, seas. Nature in Finland offers unique peace and quiet. Finnish summer offers bright nights and winter darkness and mystery. Mysticism is emphasized in Finnish Lapland. In summer, the sun never sets, and the light empowers the landscape. In winter, snow covers the nature. Darkness and obscurity are emphasized. The dark sky gives birth to the aurora borealis, the brilliant play of lights.

Maria Teresa Anjos Born and lives in Rio de Janeiro where she produces her acrylic paintings on canvas. Her works reflects the interest in the contemporary world and aims to connect it with the observer. It is the observer the one to find the meaning out of her works, the one that explains it. Searching for references, the observer will obtain its own understanding of the work. The painter tells it, but it is the observer who listens to it, the observer is free to build its own interpretation up. "I don't look for a visible world, I don't try to re-create the world around us, I escape from figurative structures". "On canvas, I merely aim painting, I don't look for a concrete representation, but to reveal what may be hidden to the observer". The color spectrum with an important presence of dark shades and black is directly linked to the abstract expressionism. The forms, when they exist, have a tendency to spontaneous vertical traces with high dramatic contents.

Nasceu e vive no Rio de Janeiro onde produz trabalhos de pintura em acrílica. Seu trabalho reflete seu interesse pelo mundo contemporâneo e procura estabelecer a conexão entre ela e o observador É o observador que vai dar significado e explicar. É ele que vai encontrar suas referências. Sua busca pelas referências vai multiplicar a significância da obra e sua mensagem. Não é a autora quem diz é ele que ouve, ele que exerce sua liberdade para construir a representação. “Eu busco o não significado, a oposição à mediação da realidade ou do mundo visível, não me proponho a produzir uma obra que seja a recriação do que está no mundo visual através da minha vivência ou do meu entendimento, fujo definitivamente do repertório figurativo. O que está na tela é pintura pura, não é minha representação do que existe objetivamente ou do onírico, meu objetivo é retirar senão todas, o máximo das referências claras e impositivas do antecedente (a artista) para que surjam as ocultas, as obscuras e as desconhecidas do conseqüente (o observador)”. A paleta apresenta cores contrastantes com presença importante de cores escuras e do negro e a pintura tem forte ligação com o expressionismo abstrato, com formas, quando existentes, tendendo à verticalidade, mas sempre marcadas pela imprecisão e gestualidade espontânea, carregadas de tensão dramática.

Milalonso Born in Rio de Janeiro, Milalonso revealed her passion for colors and the art world as a child, starting to draw at the age of 7 and painting at age 11. Her keen curiosity led her to perfect traditional techniques and develop new forms of artistic expression, valuing the infinite possibilities that the recycling and the reutilization of materials allow. Graduated in Fine Arts from Bennet Methodist University and former resident of the Bhering Factory cultural center, she participated in several projects and collective exhibitions. With the series "Shards," Milalonso seeks to express the process of self-discovery of those who have overcome a serious illness and is reborn in art, contemplating each trait of life and reinventing each piece of himself as a reflection of the beautiful imperfection of the human trajectory on Earth. Using the acrylic technique on canvas with mirrors and glass shards, appropriates recycling as one of the main tools of expression, showing that everything that apparently loses its beauty due to the action of time or wear from usage can return to the singularity of the beautiful when it returns to our hands to be reborn as sustainable art. The apparent fragility of the glass and the reflection of the mirror bring the force of colors as a representation of the fruit and gall of nature refracted on each one. “We are all broken, that’s how the light gets in” (Schopenhauer).

Natural do Rio de Janeiro, Milalonso revelou sua paixão pelas cores e pelo mundo da arte já na infância, começando a desenhar aos 7 anos e a pintar aos 11. Sua curiosidade aguçada levou-a a aperfeiçoar técnicas tradicionais e a desenvolver novas formas de expressão artística, valorizando as infinitas possibilidades que a reciclagem e o reaproveitamento de materiais permitem. Formada em Belas Artes pela Universidade Metodista Bennet e ex-residente do pólo cultural Fábrica Bhering, participou de diversos projetos e exposições coletivas. Com a série “Estilhaços”, Milalonso procura expressar o processo de autodescobrimento de quem venceu uma grave doença e renasceu na arte, contemplando cada traço de vivência e reinventando cada pedaço de si mesmo como um reflexo da bela imperfeição da trajetória humana na Terra. Utilizando a técnica de acrílico sobre tela com espelhos e estilhaços de vidro, apropria-se da reciclagem como uma das principais ferramentas de expressão, mostrando que tudo que aparentemente perde a beleza pela ação do tempo ou desgaste do uso pode retornar à singularidade do belo quando retorna a nossas mãos para renascer como arte sustentável. Minna Freija AphRodItE Eira Alaluusua www.minnaalaluusua.org Minna Alaluusua on monipuolinen ja monilahjakas taiteilija, joka pyrkii yhdistämään innovatiivisuuden, hyvät ideat ja omaperäisyyden sekä teostensa sisällössä että muodossa. Minna haluaa myös auttaa ihmisiä näkemään yhtäläisyyksiä eri ihmisryhmien välillä erovaisuuksien sijaan. Japanin pääuskonnot ovat shintolaisuus ja buddhalaisuus, ja shintolaisuuden pääjumala on auringon jumala, Amaterasu. Shintolaisessa perinteessä pyöreää, pyhää peiliä, Yata no Kagamia on käytetty ulkona Amaterasun esiin houkuttelemiseksi. Minna huomasi, että oli tehnyt itse lähes samaa juhannuksena 2017 omassa performanssissaan, minkä vuoksi hän valitsi Japanissa esitettäviksi juuri nämä valokuvat. Minna Alaluusua on rakastanut aurinkoa niin paljon, että hänen on ollut hankala pysytellä poissa suorasta auringonvalosta kun aurinko on paistanut. Minnalle juhannus on vuoden tärkein juhla ja vuoden rakkain, pyhä aika auringonvalomaksimin ja luonnon kukoistuksen vuoksi. Minna on tehnyt taidetta joka juhannus vuodesta 1995 alkaen. Vuoden 2017 juhannusaattona Minna keksi heijastaa ulkona auringonvalomaksimia erilaisilla valoa heijastavilla materiaaleilla peilipallosta alkaen, pukeutuen erilaisiin kiiltäviin materiaaleihin. Minna toteutti silloin valoa heijastavissa vaatteissaan, peilipallon kanssa performanssin ja teetti siitä valokuvasarjan, josta kaksi valokuvaa on esillä Osakassa. Minnan valokuvat on tulostettu kiiltävälle alumiinille muistuttamaan kiiltävistä, itämaisista ja länsimaisista esineistä joita on mahdollista käyttää auringon palvomiseen. Minna Alaluusua is a versatile and multitalented artist, who aims to combine innovation, good ideas and originality both in the content and the form of her work. Minna also wants to help people see similarities between groups of people, instead of differences. The main religions of Japan are Shintoism and Buddhism, and the main god of Shintoism is Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun. In the Shintoist tradition, the round, sacred mirror, Yata no Kagami has been used outside to lure Amaterasu out. Minna noticed that she had done almost the same in a performance of hers during the summer solstice of 2017. That is why she chose these photographs to be shown in Japan. Minna Alaluusua has loved the sun so much, it has been difficult for her to stay out of direct sunlight when it has been available. For Minna, the summer solstice is the most important holiday of the year, and the dearest, sacred time because of the sunlight maximum and the blooming of nature. Minna has made art every summer solstice since 1995. On the eve of the 2017 summer solstice, Minna had the idea of reflecting the sunlight maximum with different reflecting materials, such as the mirror ball, and shiny clothes. Then, wearing her shiny clothes and with the disco ball, Minna realized the performance and made a series of photographs, of which two are displayed in Osaka. The photographs are printed on glossy aluminium to be reminiscent of shiny, oriental and occidental objects which can be used to worship the sun. ”According to the testimony of Eusebius of Alexandria, Christians, too shared in the worship of the rising sun until well into the fifth century… Not a few traces of sun-worship are preserved in ecclesiastical art, for instance the nimbus round the head of Christ, and the haloes of the saints.” – Carl G. The emotion in my paintings is build on colors, layers and shapes. I am passionate to capture the gap between narrative and abstract art. This way the viewer can experience and solve the rest of the story in one’s own perspective. I see, feel and interpret life through visual art. Painting is a lifestyle I am not willing to give up. Things in life mature through renunciation, and a fully lived life can lead seizing the moment. These are the motif for my art. Nonna-Nina Mäki é uma artista de Tampere, na Finlândia. Ela se formou na Instituição de Belas Artes de Lahti. Suas pinturas foram mostradas em todo o mundo. Nonna-Nina pinta com intuição a pintura simbólica, ingênua e muito colorida, onde ela cobre diferentes fenomenos da vida com múltiplos níveis de significado. Before that I worked as a primary school teacher for some forty years. That means I shared a great deal of my creative moments with children and teenagers. Alongside my work I travelled on art trips, painted, and in particular in the last years immersed myself in the art of sculpture. My bronze sculptures have featured in a number of juried joined exhibitions as well as in individual exhibitions in Finland. I was also active in art societies for about a decade – of which two years as the chair. But now I direct all my creative energy exclusively towards my art. Bronze casting has a number of steps, which means that you can only produce a few sculptures a year. Working on bronze is hard but rewarding, like the material itself. My art work is inspired by the home, nature, people, and animals. My sculptures bring about stories and fairly-tales that take on an imaginative life of their own. For an artist, time flies. Perhaps that is also why many of my bronze figures have acquired wings. In my latest individual exhibition, I merged old photographs with my sculptures. Glass and bronze go very nicely together. Paulette Gerecht Burning Memories series Born in São Paulo-Brazil, where she lives and works, Paulette Gerecht holds a degree in Architeture and Urbanism from the University Center of Fine Arts - SP. From 2000 she started to work with visual arts, participating, since then, in numerous exhibitions, having won several prizes. Currently, her interests are focused on the study of symbologies and archetypes, by seeking self-knowledge through the art. The work here exposed belongs to the acrylic series Memórias Ardentes (Burning Memories). In the combustion of oxygen, there is the impermanence of matter. In the intense liberation of energy in the form of light and heat, one perceives the fragility and the impotence of the human being before the force of the elements of nature.

Päivyt Niemeläinen Visual artist, MA Päivyt Niemeläinen is living and working in Helsinki, Finland. Her studies in art, art history, ethnology, archelogy and pedagogy give a rich back ground for her artistic conception and expression. She has developed her own technique, reliefpainting. SUNSET AT HARVEST is made using this three- dimensional relief process, and painted by oil. Also watercolor, like in artwork GLIMPSE, is one of her techniques. Oil paintings and mixed media techniques are her main methods. Finland’s varied nature, old great stories in the history, and human life – in good and bad - is in the focus of her art. Over the past 15 years she has made current anti-war art against greediness for money and violent oppression. Recently money has become winner, and human life is looser. Her works have been shown in 21 countries. Solo exhibitions in Finland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and the USA. Photos of her artworks have been publishes in many international art books.

Voz da Floresta Quando se ouve o canto do uirapuru, onde a luz ainda não penetra completamente, mas somente onde a floresta consente, há esperança da pureza da mata amazônica. A selva multicolorida, de sua rica biodiversidade, que é ciência e sabedoria, pode trazer estudos sobre medicamentos e vacinas e tratar doenças que assolam a humanidade. Não pode evitar a ganância, que devasta e troca florestas por campos de terra e pastagens. A vida ouve a música do imperador, mas não pode impedir a cobiça do caçador, como a do cacique na lenda indígena, que à espreita maliciosa aguarda o momento propício para descer a sua luz ao mundo misterioso. Riitta Rönkkö riittaronkko.net Beauty Box-sarjassa käytän omintakeista tekniikkaa jossa kutistettu muoto kasvoistani sekä valokuva yhdistetään. Tuloksena on 3-ulotteinen valokuvapohjainen paperivalos ja henkilökuvia joiden kautta kuvaan tunnetiloja ja identiteetin skaaloja eksistenssin näyttämöllä. Viittaukset myytteihin, tarinoihin ja taidehistoriaan sekoittuvat ja kerronta tulee esiin performanssin kaltaisessa tilanteessa kameran edessä. Olen alustana kuvitteellisille henkilöhahmoille joihin samastun. In Beauty Box I use an original technique where the shrunken form of my face and photopotrait are combined. The result is a series of three dimensional photo based papercasts and characters that descibes scales of identity, emotions and existens. References to myths, tales and art history are mixed together and the narrative comes out as a performance in front of the camera. I use myself as a base for the fictive characters with whom I identify.

Rosa de Jesus Rosa de Jesus nasceu em Portugal, na cidade do Porto, no ano de 1929, formou-se em designer de moda, e imigrou com a família para o Brasil em 1957, fixando residência no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Em 1981 mudou-se para a cidade de Niterói, também no RJ. Na juventude dedicou-se ao desenho de moda, até que sua inquietude e sensibilidade levaram-na aos caminhos da pintura como forma de expressar seus sentimentos. São muitas as referencias, e ao mesmo tempo nenhuma. Tece estruturas sobre as quais se expande a imaginação. Ponto de encontro e tensão são ambos compatíveis com a atitude solitária e reflexiva da artista. Mas Rosa não se detém na atitude formalista, e expressa a vontade de pôr sua pintura como afirmação inequívoca da simbiose entre arte e vida, justamente por promover aproximação sensível com experiências vividas por quem ultrapassou obstáculos. Suas obras têm a dimensão do sentimento que as cores expressam, ora cinza, opacas e indeterminadas, sinais claros de opressão e angustia, ora o sentido lírico é reforçado pelo uso do vermelho, do preto, do amarelo, do azul, enfim, da alegria e da presença afetiva da amorozidade, pondo em evidencia o que o teor simbólico pode resgatar de uma realidade.

Rosa de Jesus was born in Portugal, in the city of Porto, in the year 1929, graduated in fashion designer, and immigrated with the family to Brazil in 1957, establishing residence in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In 1981 she moved to the city of Niterói, also in RJ. In her youth she devoted herself to fashion design, until her restlessness and sensitivity led her to the ways of painting as a way of expressing her feelings. There are many references, and at the same time none. She weaves structures on which the imagination expands. Meeting point and tension are both compatible with the solitary and reflective attitude of the artist. But Rosa does not stop at the formalistic attitude and expresses the desire to put her painting as an unequivocal affirmation of the symbiosis between art and life, precisely because it promotes a sensitive approach to experiences lived by those who have overcome obstacles. Her works have the dimension of the feeling that colors express, sometimes gray, opaque and indeterminate, clear signs of oppression and anguish, sometimes the lyrical sense is reinforced by the use of red, black, yellow, blue, finally, joy and the affective presence of amorousness, highlighting what the symbolic content can rescue from a reality. 128

Seppo Lagom Käsittelen maalauksissani luontoa ja sen monimuotoisuutta. Aihemaailmani nousee varsinaissuomalaisesta maisemasta, jonne muutin kahdeksan vuotta sitten, vanhaan taloon rytmikkäiden maisemien äärelle. Pidän kovasti näistä näkymistä. Näiden maisemien ja avarien näkymien kauneus innostaa minua tulkitsemaan niitä omien sisäisten tunteitteni kautta. Näissä maisemissa on samanmoinen henki kuin Toscanan näkymissä, joita olen saanut maalata useilla reissuillani. Teoksissani värit ja valo ovat tärkeät. Teokseni maalaan öljyväreillä kankaalle. Piirtämistä ei saa unohtaa, se on työssäni ehdoton tuki. In my paintings I deal with nature and its diversity. My subject rises from the Southwestern Finnish landscape, where I moved eight years ago to the old house near rhythmic landscapes. I like these views very much. The beauty of these landscapes and open-air views inspires me to interpret them through my own feelings. These landscapes have the same spirit as the Tuscan views, which I have been allowed to paint on many of my trips. In my works, colours and light are important. I paint my paintings with oil on canvas. Drawings should not be forgotten; it is an absolute support for my work.

Seppo Väänänen Context of my art The natural environment has played a paramount role in my art. I am interested in natural phenomena in their purest forms as well as the human imprints on nature. The instances when nature overtakes human cultures over time by consuming and rotting old structures and borders fascinate me. I have lived all my life on lakeshores. I ponder over different forms of water in my works of art. Water, snow, and ice are elements which constantly reshape the northern landscape. Our ability to read nature is slowly disappearing as we live less and less on its terms. For me art allows a consideration of my own relationship with nature. Sometimes I get so near to its true essence, it is nearly within reach. Nature however still riddles me as I have lost my ability to sense it instinctively. I am not a bear, a fish, or a bird. Taiteeni Taustaa Taiteessani luonto ja ympäristö merkitsevät minulle paljon. Minua kiinnostaa puhdas luonto ja luonnon ilmiöt sekä luonnossa näkyvät ihmisen tekemät jäljet. Tilanne jossa luonto valtaa takaisin ihmisen tekemää kulttuuria ja aika joka lahottaa rakenteita ja rajoja. Olen koko ikäni asunut vesistöjen rannalla. Tekosissani pohdin veden erimuotoja vesi, lumi, jää ovat pohjolan maisemassa jatkuvasti maisemaa muokkaavia visuaalisia elementtejä. Koska ihminen ei enää elä luonnon ehdoilla ihmisen taidot lukea luontoa ovat katoamassa. Taide on minulle väline pohtia omaa luontosuhdettani. Joskus pääsen lähelle luontoa ja melkein ymmärrän sen olemuksen, mutta aina se on minullekin jatkuvasti muuttuva arvoitus. En ole karhu, kala tai lintu.

How I paint There is always a risk when trying to create something out of nothing. The needed inspiration for painting may come from something one has experienced, seen or only dreamed. The process of painting can be be compared to writing a book or composing music. Telling stories with my own medium, own language, the language of canvas and colours. If and when the result is ok it makes me happy and new ideas continue to flow. Art is an international language, it connects people no matter where they come from.

Shirley Kwok S L Shirley Kwok S L who is from Hong Kong and has been started painting in different media as hobby after leaving school, joined different exhibitions in Hong Kong recently. The introduction to Chinese painting came few years ago after seeing the art pieces of “Qi Basishi“ (18611957), a famous Chinese painter. She sets out to produce painting about one specific media or another. She draws and sometimes the drawings are left in the sketch status and few are developed into complete paintings. The work tends to focus on the nature, the nature in recapturing the beauty of life.

Olen pohjoissuomalaisessa kaupungissa, Oulussa, asuva independent artist. Yhdistelen menetelmiä ja työskentelytapoja. Takanani on monikymmenvuotinen toimittajan/kriitikon ura. Kerrannainen kuuluu sarjaan teoksia, jotka syntyivät vuoden 2018 Pinky Noise -näyttelyyni. Se oli huuto naisten puolesta kaikenlaista ylivaltaa vastaan. Kerrannainen voi tarkoittaa Suomen kielessä esim. monikerroksellista. Teoksen nimi yhdistää sanat kerran ja nainen. Pinky Noiseni toteuttamisalusta oli oululaisen kulttuuritalon kahvila-ravintola. Kokonaisuuteen mahtui niin keskusteluja kuin syötäviä kuvia, serigrafiaa niin paperilla kuin kankaalla, jalanjäljin maalattu kolmiopurje yläilmoissa sekä monokromaattisia valokuvatulosteita kartongille kuin myös neljän eri aikakauden naistaiteilijan elämästä sarjakuvamaisesti työstetty pöytäliina ja video. Kerrannainen edusti Pinky Noisessa teosjoukkoa, jonka toteuttamistapaa kutsutaan valokuva-akvarelliksi. Grafiikan termein toteuttamistapa on monotypia – vedostus käsiprässillä. I am an independent artist, living in Oulu, a city in Northern Finland. In my works I combine different methods. I have a background of several decades in journalism and critcs. Kerrannainen is a part of series of works that were born for my 2018 exhibition Pinky Noise. It was a cry on behalf of women, against all forms of dominance. In Finnish Kerrannainen can mean for example multilayerd. The title combines the Finnish words kerran (once) and nainen (woman). Pinky Noise exhibition’s platform was a restaurant-café in a culture center. The exhibition consisted of discussions, edible pictures, serigraphs both on paper and on canvas, a high hanging triangular sail painted with footprints and monochromatic photoprints on cardboard, as well as a tablecloth and a video composed in the style of a cartoon depicting the lives of four different women artists from different periods. In Pinky Noise Kerrannainen was part of the works in which the method is called a photographic aquarelle. In terms of printmaking: a monotype, printed with a manually operated press.

Minusta tuli taiteilija, vaikka se ei ollut suunnitelmissani. Ensimmäisen lapsemme syntymän jälkeen löysin isäni tekemän hienon akvarellimaalauksen. Hän oli ilmeisen lahjakas, mutta ei kiinnostunut taidostaan. Tämä pisti miettimään; osaisinkohan minäkin maalata yhtä hyvin? Päätin kokeilla. Olen siis pääosin itseoppinut taiteilija, mikä on kyllä joskus haasteellista, mutta joka päivä studiolle mennessäni tunnen yhä sen ”liekin” sydämessäni ja se saa minut jatkamaan… Tällä hetkellä pidän työskentelystä vanerin kanssa ja erityisesti vanhojen kirjan kansien ja vanhan puun ajan patinoima pinta ja rouheus kiehtoo kovasti. Käytän usein akryyliä, pastellia ja hiiltä. Pidän myös pitsistä, decoupagesta ja kaikista romanttisista materiaaleista! I became an artist, even thoug it was not in my plans. After our first baby was born, I found excellent watercolour painting made by my father, who obviously had talent but no interest. That made me wonder could I also paint so well? I decided to try. So, I´m mainly self-thought astist, it can be challenging sometimes but every day when I go to my studio I still feel that ”flame” in my heart and that keeps me going… At the moment I like to work with plywood and especially with old book covers and old wood. I´m very fascinated with their roughness and time patinated surface. I often use acrylic, pastel and charcoal. I also like lace, decoupage and all those romantic materials as well! Timo Ala-Vähälä Timo Ala-Vähälä (b. 1958) is a writer and visual artist. He has given solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions since 2015. His main medium is drawing but he has also done installations and makes photographs. In addition to his own art, he has given drawing classes since 2016. “Drawing is a part of my ordinary life like moving, eating, sleeping. I do not eat healthy, sleep randomly and my artistic goals are looming. Nevertheless, each day leaves some traces to my body, mind and to the storage of my calligraphic drawings.”

I worked in art industry from 1970 to 2010. In this 40 years, I have been a designer, sculptor and painter. After retirement, I focus on my art and yoga teaching. I enjoy plein air palette knife painting with oils. As I found that is a very good way to appreciate nature.

These images of empty swings symbolise the lives of our children in the world of today. Will they ever be used again or will they remain abandoned? Ulla-Maija Vaittinen first exhibited at the National Youth Exhibition in 1972. Since then she has participated in several group and solo exhibitions. Her techniques vary from works in bronze, graphics, painting, installations, videos, frottage technique, readymade and enviromental works. Her most recent works have been videos and photograph collages. Ulla-Maijas motto is: Art may not change the world, but it can impact people´s emotions and their way of thinking and arise discussion. Vaittinen has studied at Art Industrial High School of Helsinki, now called Aalto University. She has taught visual arts in many sectors since year 1979. Vaittinen is a member of many Art societies. Ulla-Maija Vaittinen lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.

Ursula Kianto lives and works in Helsinki where she graduated from The Free Art School as professional painter year 1989. The paintings of Ursula Kianto are inspired by images, reflections and associations. One layer leaves some separate fragment on the painting, the next layer brings another to its side, and little by little the painting manifests itself. In most cases, the completed painting, is an abstract state of mind, where – in the middle of desolation and silence- appears to be nature and buildings. Opposing to the paintings` tranquility are the joyful and happy colors, which actually seem to be holding back their playfulness.

Yolanda Marchante Serra Yolanda Marchante Serra was born in Spain, Madrid 1964, training as a child at Amadeo Roca Gisbert workshop who was a friend of her grandfather. She was graduated in the Complutense Fine Art University in 1987. She continued with merit studies ranging from restoring the Renaissance altarpiece in Pedrosa with a scholarship granted by Burgos City Hall to Studying Graphics Design. In 1991, she was awarded Prizes as a painter and also, is awarded honorable mention in Drawing Penagos Prize organized by Mapfre in 2005 and 2007. She has had some National exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Córdoba, Albacete, Granada, Asturias, Segovia. She was preset at International Art Fairs exhibitions in Miami, Paris, Brusells, Bidart, Frankfurt and Jaén. Her artwork belongs to more than a dozen museums and public and private collections such us: National Library in Madrid, CasaPalacio Santa Ana Museum in Córdoba, Casa de Los Tiros Museum in Granada, Villaseñor Museum in Ciudad Real, The Albacete Provincial Council, National Auditorium of Music in León, City Hall of Valdegangas and Andújar, Bullfighting Affairs Center in Ventas, Madrid.

CASA, THE ART SCHOOL FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN Art school CASA (Centro de Assistencia Social e Artistica) was founded in August 2005 by Helena and Edson Cardoso. Art School is ment for underprivileged children living in the favela of Cidade de Deus - City of God, in Rio de Janeiro. The school’s aim is to help these children fulfil their dreams of a better future through the power of art and to give them a constructive hobby and direction in their lives. There are currently 15 children in the school, ranging in age from 4-15 years. We hope that our work will help to prevent these children from ending up on the streets. The Finnish organization, Arte Vida Arte ry, funds CASA. The Finnish artists from our organization have been visiting Cidade de Deus and working with the children. You can also be a part or this valuable project and help give these children a better future.
