Himalayan Children’s Fund News

Dear Friends,

With monsoon coming to an end in Nepal repairs and painting jobs are back on track. It is also time for first term exams and some big changes for Tara Abbey. Please enjoy our stories, and if you can, please help us out with a great review. It is easy to share your special story of connection on: Great NonProfits

Thank you for your kind support.

CURRENT NEEDS

* Support is urgently needed for the young nuns and monks attending SMD and SMDBS. In particular, we have lost a considerable amount of support for the young Tara Abbey nuns attending SMD. While an annual sponsorship is great, a general donation for school fees is just as helpful ~ one time, monthly or annually.

* Support is needed to fund educational field trips for SMD classes. Any amount by check or online is always gratefully accepted.

Please pass the word, and if you are currently a sponsor, kindly consider sharing your experience with friends ~ they just might want to help.

Our sponsors and donors are our best fundraisers!

EXERCISE AND LEARNING FUN

Here, the young monks at Pullahari Drubkhang exercise while learning their anatomy, and SMD nursery students learn to dance traditional dances with their teacher Sonam Dolma. Hover for videos.

*We will always accept any amount toward sponsorships and find additional sponsors to complete the full fee amount. For more information, or to arrange a sponsorship please contact HCF. himalayanchildrensfund@gmail.com

Students at SMD have been focused on their first term exams.

TARA ABBEY SHEDRA

It was moving day for the 70 nuns studying in Thrangu Thoisam Dargyeling Shedra. Now that the new dormitory, kitchen, and enclosed dining hall are ready for use at Lumbini monastery, the nuns packed up their gear and traveled by bus this week, joining the nuns already studying at Lumbini University. Including staff, the community of nuns will be more than 80 and the new session will begin the first week of October. Khenpo Chogyal saw them off with a kata blessing and will join them soon in Lumbini for offering prayers and a re puja.

SMDBS

Gen Thinley Sangye recently spent a month teaching Tibetan language classes at SMDBS which culminated in a reading test to emphasize the importance of improving reading skills quickly, through clear and correct pronunciation. He also gave advice on the importance of reading and learning Tibetan scriptures ~ the basis of all Buddhist studies in the Tibetan tradition. Khenpo Chonyi also gave advice on the relationship between teachers and students.

The weather in Nepal has finally permitted some long overdue repairs and painting of the monk’s dormitories and school offices, both inside and out. (Thanks to HCF!) Hover for videos.
